Fitness & Figure Talk Radio with Terry and Elaine Goodlad

A nice addition to the online radio world comes via way of Terry and Elaine Goodlad. Those of you who aren’t familiar with the duo, where have you been? Terry is currently one of the most published photographers in the fitness world and his beautiful wife Elaine is an IFBB Figure pro and fitness model. As if the two weren’t busy enough, they’ve taken on another project with Fitness and Figure Talk Radio. They are great at interviewing their guests and you’d swear they’ve been doing it for years. Adela Garcia, Jen Hendershott and Jenny Lynn have all made appearances on the show thus far. You can listen to their show on bodysport.com. Great work Terry and Elaine!

Huong Arcinas comments before her IFBB Pro Debut

We asked rookie Huong Arcinas what she thought going into her pro debut this weekend. She shared the following with us:

5 days left until my Pro debut. I’m excited but nervous as heck. With 12 shows under my belt, it’s just something you don’t’ get use to. I love the rush of being on stage and am very thrilled for it to be in Sacramento. The very stage I stood on four years ago. Most of the competitors I have crossed path with in my career. I look forward to seeing old faces and meeting new ones. I’ve added a couple pounds since July at Figure Nationals so I’m ecstatic to see the complete package as I’m always thriving to improve with the help of my wonderful Nutritionist Kim Oddo and fellow friend Connie Longoria. If it works out I maybe in Kentucky next week. Otherwise, I’m happy with my accomplishment this year and ready to enjoy the holidays.

XOXO,
Huong Arcinas
IFBB Pro Figure
ON/ABB sponsored athlete

Huong has the added advantage of not having to fly into this show. Competing in your own city for a pro debut is always an added bonus. Good luck Huong.

Another IFBB Figure Pro Debut – April Fortier

We received word from another NPC USA Figure champ that she will be making her debut in 2007. April Fortier won the Figure D Class earlier this year in Las Vegas. She’s one of the rare competitors who has competed in both fitness and figure. April placed third at the Team Universe fitness tall class as well as third in the Figure Nationals D Class. Prior to that she placed fourth in both fitness and figure at the 2007 Junior Nationals. April’s had a busy yet successful 2007 competitive season. Fourth to Third to First…Where will she fair in the next level?

When asked how she feels about competing for the first time as a pro she responded with, “I’m so thrilled to be competing in my first pro shows.” April promises to knock out socks off when she steps on stage this weekend at the IFBB Sacramento Pro. She will also be competing in the Kentucky Pro figure show in a couple of weeks.

Good luck April in your IFBB pro figure debut.

Christina Lindley: Chasing the Devil and Head Case Appearances

It is always a pleasure when I speak with Christina Lindley, as she always has interesting stories to tell. Christina has been doing very well since I last saw her at the 2007 Olympia Weekend. She was there working the Kemistry Booth.Christina is currently on the cover of Fitness Rx for Women magazine. The magazine hits newsstands this week. This special Holiday issue also features her in a 15 page layout!

Christina has also been doing quite well on a few television shows. In September, she starred in a miniseries called “Chasing the Devil”, which was about the Green River Killer. The story is from the book of the same title, by Sheriff David Reichert. It encompasses his 20 year quest to capture the killer. Christina plays Lynn Mosey, the station manager and news reporter in this 4- part mini-series. It is slated to air on the Lifetime Network in March 2008.

This past weekend, Christina also shot for a new television series called “Head Case”. Head Case, shown on the Starz Network, is a series of 20, five minute interstitials. Alexandra Wentworth who in 1995, played Jerry’s girlfriend Sheila (“Schmoopie”) in the famous “Soup Nazi” episode of Seinfeld, plays a psychiatrist in the series. Christina, who starts in the 11th episode plays Diana, a model that doesn’t know how to eat. The psychiatrist takes Diana to the local Fatburger and tries to show her how to eat various foods. Alexandra’s character tries to explain to Diana (Lindley’s character) that eating is good, in comedic fashion.

In case you didn’t know, Christina is quite the comedian herself. Christina has been studying at the Groundlings School, which is a comedy improv school. Many of the people who studied and performed at Groundlings became cast members on Saturday Night Live and other shows. Christina has done a number of shows as the “Wild n Out” girl on MTV as well as others.

Christina has had roles in “The Marine” with the John Cena and Robert Patrick as well as in a few other television shows and movies.

Friend of Hardbody.com, Christina Lindley graces another magazine cover

One of our favorite people in the industry continues to have tremendous success. Christina Lindley is the cover model on the current issue of Fitness RX for women. That’s not all that’s happening with Christina. Check back shortly for more news on her.

Adela Garcia officially out of the 2008 Fitness International

Adela Garcia, the reigning Ms. Fitness Olympia champ, has confirmed that she will not be competing at the 2008 Fitness International. Adela is taking some time off to work on a new routine, let her body rest and plans on competing sometime in the summer.

Adela will be working the GNC booth at the Sacramento Pro show this weekend as well as NPC Nationals in Dallas, next month.

Happy Birthday Sherry Goggin

Happy Birthday Sherry. Sherry and the Hardbody.com crew went on quite the adventurous ride back in July. We’re glad we all made it to see another day and Sherry another birthday.

2007 IFBB Sacramento Pro Figure

This weekend the NPC/IFBB Sacramento show will take place in Sacramento, California. Promoted by Ted Williams and John Tuman, this show is always a good one. This year sixteen IFBB figure pros will take the stage. Huong Arcinas will be making her pro debut in her own backyard this weekend. Huong battled it out at the beginning of the year in the NPC ranks until turning pro at Figure Nationals. She’s one of the shorter competitors in the pro ranks but don’t let her height fool you. She’ll hold her own on this stage.

Michelle “Momma” Flake has been absent from the figure stage since last year’s Olympia. We caught up with her at the USAs in Vegas as well as the Olympia and she looks great. She should be in the mix of the top 5 at this show. Another competitor whom we haven’t seen on stage in some time is Kirsten Nicewarner. Kirsten typically competes in fitness however due to injury made the switch to Figure. We’ll see how some time away from the stage has treated her this weekend.

Who will wear the crown? We’ll find out this Saturday at the Crest Theater. Check back here for more updates throughout the week and over the weekend as Hardbody.com provides you with the latest coverage on the figure gals.

“Training for Two” Video by Carla Sanchez

As if she wasn’t busy enough coordinating a show, coaching a team along with many other things; IFBB Pro, Carla Sanchez is producing a pregnancy training video. While pregnant Carla filmed a training video entitled, “Training for Two”. The video, which is sponsored by Palmer’ Cocoa Products, incorporates resistance training with free weights, machines & bands, and an outdoor workout at Red Rocks.

IFBB Pro Nancy Hirsch lands roll on popular TV show, Nip/Tuck – Hardbody Exclusive

A close and dear friend of mine, Nancy Hirsch has landed a role on the hit television show, Nip/Tuck. I am stoked for her and could sense her enthusiasm when we spoke. She plays a sexy nurse named “Side Pony”. The creator (Ryan Murphy) coined her name from the way she wore her hair on the set. The stylist had put her hair off to the side and Ryan loved the way it looked.

nancyhirsch.jpg
Nancy as “Side Pony”.

Nancy’s best competitive year was in 2004 when she cleaned house at the NPC California State Figure Championships. She won the figure D class, over-all figure, figure masters medium and figure masters overall title. She turned pro later that year and competed four times in the IFBB ranks. She’s appeared in numerous magazines and has an incredible physique. Nancy hung up her figure suits and posing shoes at the end of 2005.

Anyone who knows Nancy, knows she is very deserving of this role and a kind, gentle soul. Look for a redesign of her website (nancyhirsch.com)in the coming weeks.

New season of Nip/Tuck starts October 30th, Tuesdays on FX. Check local listings for times.
Congratulations Nancy!

IFBB Figure Pro – Amy Peters – Gets engaged!

Amy Peters, well known IFBB Figure Pro, has just recently gotten engaged. Amy & Scott

Amy and Steve were out to celebrate her birthday this past Saturday.  While not big on surprises, she was a little shocked when several of her friends showed up to dinner with presents to help her celebrate.  Adding a second surprise to the evening was that Steve had planned to have them bring her an ice cream cake, one of Amy’s favorite cheats.

After the presents were opened and the cake was cut, figure competitor and friend Traci Redding turned to her and said, “…as much as you like surprises, I wonder if there will be a third one?”  With that, only moments later, he got down on his knee, held her hand and popped the question.

Amy will be competing at the 2007 IFBB Pro Figure in Louisville, Ky three weeks from now. She let me know that the real celebration will take place after the show…word has it, no Crabcake or Chocolate Chip cookie is safe!

Join us in congratulating the couple on their engagement!

Best wishes on the upcoming show and wedding plans!

“Iron Sirens” Comic Book Update

We caught up with J.M. Manion who has been working on a dream project for the past four years. The comic is now available in comic book stores and if your local comic shop doesn’t have it, be sure to ask for it.We asked him to give us a little more insight on how “Iron Sirens” came to be and this is what he shared. Enjoy…

———–

This is the fruition of a 4 year project. In a nutshell I was in contact with comic book writer Ian Ascher from Columbus, OH. I told him of my idea to have a comic book featuring real IFBB Pro’s in it. They would not have “super-hero” names but we’d use their own & trade off of that. Initially the trio consisted of 4-time Fitness Olympia/Fitness International winner Susie Curry, now 2-time Fitness Olympia/Fitness International winner Adela Garcia & Fitness International winner Jenny Worth. All 3 were going to be involved with their characters as Ian was going to write in some of their personalities & things from their real lives. The next step was getting an artist committed. Long story short, after going through about 3 artists that flaked out & did initial drawings of the girls we finally got to the rough draft phase of pages actually being drawn. It was then that Jenny Worth decided to drop out. Production was halted. So that we wouldn’t have to totally re-do the script I asked 3-time Figure International & Figure Olympia winner Jenny Lynn if she would be interested since she originally started out as a fitness competitor & got her pro card winning the NPC USA Fitness overall. She agreed & we were back on track with a new character likeness of Jenn Lynn replacing Jenny Worth. The comic was going to have a color cover & be black & white on the inside due to finances. The comic premiered at the Arnold Classic in 2005. The original name was “Project Diva: Trinity”. It was an instant success & we were planning the 2nd & 3rd books when we hit another few roadblocks.

Note: this was never intended to be a 1-shot book but a continuing series. Book 1 ends in a cliff-hanger.

Another artist flaked out but for a good reason. He was hired to work for Marvel Comics & had his own book too. Can’t blame him. Also, Susie Curry eventually retired.

Now another 2 years later the book is renamed “Iron Sirens” & is fully colored. Some of the dialog has been changed but it still features Adela, Jenny & Susie plus a cameo by a dorky photographer in the vein of Jimmy Olsen. Hmm? The book will be available towards the end of October so if everybody can go to their local comic book store & request it so the publisher sees interest, then this can continue. It is very important to get this new Issue # 1 bought.

We have book # 2 planned where Susie Curry will be phased out, (note: she will not be killed off), to be replaced by a new Iron Siren. If all goes well, book # 2 will be ready for the 2008 Arnold Classic. Book #3 would wrap up the story arc. The book #4 would start a new adventure for the Iron Sirens. Hopefully there will be 4 issue’s in 2008 & again, if it sells well enough it can go to 6 issue’s in 2009 & eventually a monthly. That’s why I want to stress the importance of getting Issue #1 bought to show that our sport can & will support a comic book based on real athletes.

As things go, the artist was signed to an exclusive deal for a major comic book publisher so we will have a new artist for the next book but that’s not uncommon in the comic book world.

The goal is to feature more real IFBB fitness & figure athlete’s as both heroes & villians in future installments. I’d also like to feature some of the IFBB pro men too if they’d be willing.

Another thing to note is that all of this was dreamed up by me long before the t.v. series “Heroes” was ever heard of. Using real life characters & their super-powers. About the only nod we have to other super-heroes is that the girls do wear outfits when doing battle with their enemies.

I see my role as more of an Executive Producer as I have financed all of this on my own. Trust me, it’s not cheap, but I believe in the product. I also oversee Ian’s scripts; he & I share ideas. Ian is in charge of the writing as I said but he has also been the one trying to get us the best comic book artists to work for us. Again – not cheap. He is also the liaison with the publisher.

Below are a few samples of pages 2 & 4 in their drawing stages & then colorized. The dialog has not been added in yet.

———–

Thanks J.M. for the update. We hope the venture is a success for everyone involved.

Props to IFBB Pro, Carla Sanchez and Jeff Taylor for another successful “Fitness Fiesta”. Carla’s show continues to foster the fitness competitors of tomorrow. The Jr. Fitness division showcases some young talent that could be the next Adela Garcia or Jen Hendershott. Some of these competitors had incredible routines and could teach the pros a thing or two.

Our California Competitor Chicas are doing okay

As most of you are aware there are terrible fires taking place all over California. A few of the NPC/IFBB competitors and industry people are located near the fires. The guru on all females in the industry is packed up and ready to evacuate should he have to escape. Right now, he is safe and hasn’t had to leave. (No, we’re not implying that Steve is a competitive chica).

West Palm Beach Pro Winner, Gina Aliotti checked in with us and let us know she is ok. Gina lives in San Diego along with a few other competitors who also appear to be ok. Gina did mention that the air quality is horrible, with ash everywhere.

Another Baby is Born

Congratulations to Shari (King) and Barbara Kamali on their new addition to the family. Join us in giving the couple a warm congrats to their baby girl, Rio Kamali. Those of you not familiar with the couple. King Kamali is an IFBB Pro Bodybuilder and Barb is a popular fitness model. Congrats!

Heather Green Heats Up!

We’ll be putting out a profile on her soon but ya gotta love Heather Green. She started the year out in the NPC ranks competing for that ever so elusive IFBB pro card. She nabbed her pro status in New York at the Figure Nationals. She went on to compete in her first IFBB pro show at the 2007 Atlantic City show, where she qualified for the Olympia. Heather competed at the Olympia and then turned around to compete two weeks later at the West Palm Beach show. She placed 5th there and looked her all-time best. Keep your eye on her, she is a beautiful, friendly competitor with a great phsyique. Her and her husband, Adam reside in Atlanta, GA. If you can believe this, she’s a mother of TWO! What a body on this inspiring mother.

IFBB Pro Kim Lyons featured in Denver Post

I was wrapping up a meeting with one of my clients, Pura Vida Fitness and Spa, when the CFO showed me a photo of an attractive woman and asked if I knew who it was. I immediately recognized her, as I had just spent some time chatting with up with her husband. The woman was NBC’s “Biggest Loser” trainer, Kim Lyons and significant other is of course none other than Gunter Schlierkamp. Gunter is one of the nicest guys you’ll ever meet and is currently featured in the “rethink” commercial by Saturn. I last saw them together at the Olympia in Las Vegas.

gunter_kim.jpg

Enough of my personal connection to the two. Susan Brown, from the Denver Post, caught up with Kim and here is a bit from her featured story.

Win back your health with help from “Loser”
You wouldn’t know it from looking at her washboard abs and wide smile, but Kim Lyons was once overweight and miserable. Lyons, 34, now a trainer on NBC-TV’s “The Biggest Loser” and author of “Your Body, Your Life: The 12-Week Program to Optimum Physical, Mental & Emotional Fitness,” (Sterling, $17.95, to be published in February), wasn’t always the picture of health.Lyons’ father was an Air Force pilot, so the family moved around a lot while she was growing up. To fit in at each new school, Lyons focused her energy on sports, participating in softball, track, gymnastics and cheerleading. Her teen years were spent at Lewis-Palmer High School in Monument (where her parents still live), and after graduating, she went to Colorado State University to study human development and family studies.

While she stayed active, “The weight sneaks up on you,” Lyons said, noting that a year after college graduation she was carrying an excess 30 pounds on her 5-foot-3-inch frame. “It made me shy, insecure and uncomfortable,” Lyons says.
