2011 Arnold Sports Festival – Figure International Preview

The obvious storyline heading into this weekend’s Figure International is the match-up between the last three Figure Olympians. Jenn Gates is returning to the stage after having her third child. Erin Stern is coming off from a win at the 2010 Figure Olympia and Nicole Wilkins is the defending Figure International champion. No disrespect intended towards the other competitors but this is the match up everyone is buzzing about. Can anyone topples one of the big three? We’ll find out who is shaking Arnold’s hand on Friday night.

Who do you think will win the 2011 Figure International? Will it be one of these three women or someone else? If you aren’t attending the show you can watch it live on the FREE Bodybuilding.com webcast. Check out my preview of all the competitors on Bodybuilding.com.

Hottie Body Hump Club

“In Hollywood being in shape is more important than being alive,” says ABC late-night talk show host Jimmy Kimmel. Check out this hilarious video where Jimmy pokes fun at workout programs. Jimmy K. has developed “Hottie Body Hump Club”. It combines the flexibility of pilates with the sexability of humping. Ridiculously amusing.

There are a number of celebrities that appear in this video. Check it out.

Meet Ms. Melanie Tillbrook

Welcome NPC competitor and full-time professional model, Melanie Tillbrook to Team Hardbody. Melanie is an accomplished model with exotic good looks and will be sharing insight from the modeling world. Melanie’s resume continues to grow and it’s in large part to how she conducts herself. She’s a professional and that means more than just looking beautiful.

I have a 6A.M. wake up time, hit my morning cardio, emails on the stair master, home for a shake and off to the airport for my next destination. I’ve got my cooler of food that I prepped the night before and I’m off to my next adventure. There’s a unique balance involved in being a full time professional model, businesswoman, and fitness competitor. It takes planning, persistence, & tough skin to keep it up day to day. I am not complaining though this is the path that I chose and I truly love what I do. Everyday is different and a always a new setting to work in with new circumstances.

I’ve spent the better part of the past 6 years, working in my field as a Spokesmodel/Print model. I never thought that I would be doing what I’m doing now. I attended FSU and obtained my degree in Marketing and Economics. After I graduated I found that the jobs appealing to me were not in abundance and somehow I fell into the “modeling” world. I have been very blessed to have the career I have had thus far appearing in 7 music videos, numerous TV shows, magazine covers, and working as a spokesperson. I thank my lucky stars for everyday and feel truly lucky to be living out my dreams.

Out of college I started working as a fitness model for BSN and was with them for 5 years. While working the Olympia Expo and Arnold Classic each year, I was amazed by the physiques that I saw on stage. The figure competitors looked absolutely stunning. These women weren’t frail and weak looking like a lot of the models I work with in NYC and Miami. They were super fit and strong. After working these events I wanted to compete.

When the Bikini Division was started in the NPC I knew that I wanted to take a chance and get in there but with my work travel schedule it has been pretty difficult to diet down & train as hard as I want to all the time. I feel like my body turns soft when I’m on the road too long. Especially when I don’t have good weights to train with so that has become an obstacle. But I gave it a chance and finally did compete and I was so excited to bring home a trophy and qualify for Nationals. I had no idea what I was doing, I was just going for it. I’m looking forward to competing in another competition soon.

I’ll be sharing some tips here on hardbody in the weeks ahead. If you have any questions tweet me or email me through my website. You can meet me at the Arnold Sports Expo this weekend, I’ll be working the Team MuscleTech® booth.

Egg Vs. Chicken Game

Egg Vs. Chicken, a new game by PlayFirst Inc. is available on iTunes and it’s the best 99 cents you’ll spend all month. I downloaded it today and it helps pass the time while doing some cardio. Most competitors are eating chicken and/or eggs so what better way to pass the time than to play a game with both. It’s kind of like Angry Birds but a little more involved but not much.

From iTunes:

★★ LIMITED TIME: $0.99 Special Launch Price! ★★
Crack open this hilarious game to slide, flick, and launch eggs at waves of chickens!

“Egg vs. Chicken is one of those rare gems that I have to encourage as many people as possible to buy. It’s cute, it’s easy to play and it entices you into playing for much much longer than you’d envisage.” – Jennifer Allen, 148Apps

In a world filled with questions, one question has stumped mankind for ages… which came first? Crack open this egg-sterically funny action puzzler, and let the battles begin!

Seemingly harmless eggs are being invaded by waves of ruthless roosters and plundering hens. Defend the walls of the eggs’ fort and prevent a coop d’état! In this egg-citing blend of defense and match 3, cluster armies of peppy eggs together, and launch a hard-boiled attack on relentless chickens!

3 DOZEN LEVELS OF GRADE AA FUN
Whip your way through hours and hours of eggs-hilarating fun and hilarious scenarios!

SLIDE YOUR EGGS INTO READY POSITION
Prep your eggs by sliding them in all directions and matching groups of same-colored eggs.

I’m a fan and not sure which is more amusing the googly eggs or the variety of chickens throughout the game. LOVE IT! Buy it on iTunes here.

McDonald’s Misses On Oatmeal Offering

McDonald’s isn’t known for being the epitome of healthy food. When I heard they were offering oatmeal, I thought sweet at least I can get one thing hot and healthy at an airport. Fat chance. The Oatmeal isn’t available plain. Opportunity missed. Last week Mark Bittman of the New York Times wrote about this topic. Check it out it’s worth reading.

I asked them this, via e-mail: “Why could you not make oatmeal with nothing more than real oats and plain water, and offer customers a sweetener or two (honey, the only food on earth that doesn’t spoil, would seem a natural fit for this purpose), a packet of mixed dried fruit, and half-and-half or — even better — skim milk?”

Their answer, via e-mail and through a spokesperson (FMO is “fruit and maple oatmeal”): “Customers can order FMO with or without the light cream, brown sugar and the fruit. Our menu is entirely customizable by request with our ‘Made for You’ platform that has been in place since the late 90s.”

G’S Tip of The Week: Cider

Gina Aliotti suggests using Apple Cider Vinegar. Check out why.

Opt for Apple Cider Vinegar as your Vinegar of choice! Known as the mother of all vinegars and with so many beneficial health properties, you can’t go wrong. To name a few, apple cider vinegar is loaded with potassium, enzymes, good bacteria, lowers blood sugar levels, balances your ph levels and speeds up metabolism, helping you burn unwanted fat! Use apple cider vinegar in your daily nutritional program by adding it to salads or even placing a tablespoon or two in your water with a touch of lemon.

G’s favorite Apple Cider Water
– Water
– 1-2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
– Juice of 1 whole lemon
– 1-2 packets stevia

Sip on this throughout the day and reap all the benefits!

Unleash the Beast – Jessica Clay Profile in Columbus Dispatch

Don’t let the cute outer shell of Jessica Clay fool you, she’s a beast under it all. That’s what Jessica’s trainer shared with the Columbus Dispatch in a recent interview. Seeing some of her training photos, I wouldn’t argue with him. The Columbus Dispatch interviewed Jessica for the upcoming Bikini International and organizer Jim Lormier shares that the event was added due to the overwhelming popularity in the amateur division.

Two years ago when the first amateur bikini competition was held at the Arnold, 32 women competed. Last year, the number grew to 91, and 148 are to compete at the amateur level this year.

“It appeals to a wider audience,” Davies said. “These are the women who are going to be on the covers of the magazines.”

Jim Lorimer, co-producer of the Arnold, said the professional bikini competition was added to the festival because of the overwhelming response organizers saw to the amateur competition.

“At first I asked, ‘Do we really need a fourth category?’  ” Lorimer said. “I was amazed by the number of women who came out for the bikini competition.”

Shelsea Montes “Embrace The Grind”

IFBB Bikini Pro Shelsea Montes is in the final stages of her Bikini International prep. What’s up with the pint sized Puerto Rican? Read how she “embraces the grind” as she heads to Columbus.

So I’m less than 1 week out from the Bikini International… O-M- to that G!!! I can’t believe its already here! I remember 7 weeks ago and having the chat with Adela on the brutal stairmaster about how I wished the competition was already here. And now, here is the last week. My husband and I adopted a quote for the last week that can apply to any journey we go through, “embrace the grind”. Right now this means enjoying the last week of hard work before The Arnold. He is currently opening another business in a different city and I am training for one of the biggest shows of my career. Life is busy for us right now.

With so much piling up, it becomes easy to forget about how blessed we are to have these opportunities. We focus on how difficult things can seem and how much is on our plate, when there are so many out there that wish they had SOMETHING on theirs. This week was pivotal because I decided to turn it all around! Typically, the week before a contest I close myself off from 99.9999% of my ordinary life. I eat. I train. I relax (which sometimes means stress more).

This time around I decided to really enjoy the final week. I entered my husband and myself in a fitness fashion show that is raising money for Susan G Komen, made myself a slower work schedule, and I am getting pampered this whole week. I’m sure you’ve all heard (or if you haven’t you will, hehe) my newest slogan, “if you don’t grind, you don’t shine”. So after all the hard work, it’s time to treat myself!

I hope that I can influence some of you competitors to “embrace the grind” this week. Not only am I going to enjoy this week, but after the show I will too! I can’t stop thinking about my almond joy. Remember to always find the way to enjoy yourself and no matter what, you will shine 😉

– Seashel

P.S. Don’t forget to read my 2nd hardbody blog if you need a packing list and C-BUS IS COLD!!!

P.S. squared… Who’s running the 5k the next morning…..I AM!!!!! Anyone brave enough to join? We can all run as Team Hardbody yay!

Follow Shelsea on Twitter @seashelmontes. If you’re as crazy as Shelsea and plan to run the 5k on Sunday, let us know.

Nicole’s Arnold Confessions IV

Nicole Duncan is just days away from the Fitness International in Columbus, Ohio. The high fly’n pro shares her latest confessions and through it all the most important message to all… REMEMBER TO HAVE FUN!

It’s under a week left to the show and I am as excited as ever. It’s not because I have the perfect physique, cause I don’t. It’s not because I have my routine completed, cause I don’t. It’s not because I know I’m going to win – probably won’t. It’s because I have the best, most terrific people and support group around. My family, friends, trainer and support team are the absolute best people ever. Through it all, they have 100% confidence that I can pull this crap off. It amazes me how life can scoop in and shake things up, but in the end everything still falls right into place. I’m banking on that at this year’s show. I’m still sick. My music is still incomplete. Routine is being choreographed TODAY by me. I haven’t run anything full out. I practiced posing for the first time since last show TODAY. Each time I mention these things to my peeps, they look at me and say, “Big deal, you will be fine.” So I have chosen to take that approach. I’m eating my meals, taking my vitamins, drinking the water and taking things one hour at a time, because I will be fine. I am going to have the time of my life like I always do!

I just got an email from my trainer, the Mike Davies, which basically said that he has a lot of people in the show, send your travel and contact info, see me on Wednesday for posing if you can and REMEMBER NOT TO STRESS BECAUSE THIS IS SUPPOSED TO BE FUN. Why, as competitors, do we always forget that? Competing can and will be fun if you let it. We take ourselves too seriously sometimes.

In the IFBB we have developed an extended family. We only get to see each other a few times a year but boy do we have fun when we get together. I can’t say enough about the support that I’ve gotten from some of my closest IFBB buds. I’ll get to see Tina again who just welcomed home her husband Matt after missing him from 8 months while he was serving our country in Afganistan. Talk about true perseverance. I am so looking forward to getting a big ole’ hug from Alicia who has been my BBM inspirational buddy and has sent prayers and checked on me throughout this prep. I am sure we will be having our girl scout cookie and ice cream party somewhere after the event. I can’t wait to see Adela, a true mama to us all. I love her energy and was so lifted when she took the time to reach out to me when I was having a really hard time. It means a lot to me that she actually called to make sure I was doing well. And what would I do without IFBB Pro Maggie Keaveny (formerly Blanchard), she has been making my suits since I hit the pro stage. For this show, she contacted ME to get the ball rolling on my suit color choice and design. It’s been 4 years that she has been coming through for me as a sponsor and we all know how pricey suits are! I also can’t wait Laticia Wilder, who has a work ethic like no other; Theresa Anthony, miss comeback queen and sweet tweeter; and Jessica Paxson who just balances everything with grace and a level head. The fitness girls are going to rock and I can’t wait to see Erin, Myriam, Bethany and Tanji whip out some amazing routines. We truly get to have a blast back stage at what we work so hard to do.

So, mom, dad, Mike, Deb, the Situation, Mag, JanTana, Paula, Wanda, Monet, Marquesha, my clients, entire family, co-workers & friends, this one’s for you! Thanks Isaac!

Arnold Sports Festival: Covering Columbus with Stephanie Billings

Thousands of people will head to Columbus, Ohio next week for the 2011 Arnold Sports Festival and we have all your Hardbody needs covered. Who better to cover Columbus than a resident hardbody? IFBB Figure Pro Stephanie Billings has assembled a great guide to getting around Columbus. Check it out!

By Stephanie Billings, IFBB Figure Pro
The 2011 Arnold Classic is fast approaching. For some, it will be a first time experience, while for others it will be another opportunity to create memories associated with the long standing event. Whether you are a spectator, booth worker or competitor, hopefully this information will be of some help during the hectic, fun filled weekend. It’s hard to lead a healthy, competition lifestyle far from home, but Columbus is a city that is “Commit to be Fit” and promotes overall health and well being. After living here as a competitor, just minutes from the convention center, I have the inside scoop of where to go for food, (both contest and cheat meals) gyms, tanning, supplements and last minute photo shoot outfits.

FOOD
There are amazing places to eat within walking distance from the convention center, and also places that deliver if you are unable to get away from the event. For breakfast, I highly recommend First Watch, located at 496 South High Street, just 2-3 min drive south of the convention center. They have a healthy options menu, and will also make special accommodations. They only serve breakfast and brunch. http://www.firstwatch.com/index.htm

Next door to the convention center is Mo Joe Lounge and they also serve breakfast, as well as lunch and dinner. They will accommodate, but have fewer healthy options, and their menu is a bit limited. The restaurant is attached to Cup O Joe, a local coffee shop true to Columbus and for all of those Starbucks connoisseurs, you will not be disappointed! They know how to brew a fabulous “Cup O Joe”!!!

North from the Convention Center is North Star Café, 951 North High Street, one of my most favorite places to eat, but not necessarily for a competitor during contest season. All of their food is organic, locally grown and they have gluten and dairy free options. They also have vegan and vegetarian dishes. There philosophy is expressed in ever menu option, and they serve all meals, but primarily breakfast and lunch.

Directly across from the center is the North Market (http://www.northmarket.com), a little hidden but only a block away. Everything within the market is fresh and locally produced. They have food options to go, as well as grocery items to purchase. They have the best fresh seafood, chicken and beef in town if you have the ability to cook within your hotel room. They also have fresh, locally grown fruits and vegetables. You will also find a to-go sushi bar with pre-made items and the option to order.

Speaking of sushi, there are very few competitors I know that do not love it (I know they exist, but do not see how)!! Fortunately, the best sushi restaurants are nearby. Across the street is Sushi Rock, a trendy, modern, upscale restaurant that serves primarily sushi but offers a hot menu with plenty of healthful options. There prices are moderate to high, but there sushi is amazing. The downside, they are only open for dinner.

Half a block away is Lemon Grass Fusion Bistro. They have a more limited sushi menu, but have never once disappointed. The restaurant is more laid back, thai inspired and if you go there make sure to order their Lemongrass Soup, (without noodles).

Haiku is a few blocks down the street (800 North High Street) and personally my favorite. They have an extensive menu, great atmosphere and are reasonably priced.

Nida’s Thai on High (976 North High) is a newer restaurant with a sushi menu as well. I have eaten there once, but I will surely go back in the future! Lemongrass, Haiku and Nida’s are open for lunch and dinner and are more casual.

A couple of places in the area that deliver are Shane’s Gourmet Market, they will deliver but have a $75 minimum and Katzingers, true to Columbus only. They will also deliver with a $40 minimum. As a dieting competitor the only thing you could eat are their salads (if you are contest prep) and they are willing to make accommodations. Again, all of their ingredients are fresh, and not processed. When you order grilled chicken, you get real grilled chicken. Personally recommend the Artichoke Grilled Chicken Salad without cheese or bread. Friends or others who you are with that are not dieting will love this place! If you happen to go there, they have samples of fresh made breads and imported cheeses, so beware! They are also famous for their pickles, so make sure to stop by the barrel before you go!

The best place to find other places to eat is http://www.dineoriginalscolumbus.com. Most restaurants are downtown in the Short North (by the Convention Center), Downtown, German Village or Grandview. All are only minutes from all Arnold Events. You almost cannot go wrong with any restaurant listed on this site.

For after show dining or cheat meals, Barcelona is my number one recommendation. Located in German Village, by Shiller Park, it is a meal you will not forget. Spanish inspired, with a simple menu, but very complex dishes. The ambiance is extraordinary. Always great service and an extensive martini menu and wine selection.

Other quick mentions, Lindey’s in German Village, Due Amici located Downtown and the Rossi located in the Short North.

The main grocery store nearby is the Kroger Shopping Market, located on Front Street, south of the Convention Center. This grocery store is very large, and should have everything you would possibly need. During the day they have a hot food and a sushi bar.

GYMS
While in Columbus, I am sure most will need to get their workout on! Most hotel gyms do not cut it for competitors and during this weekend, they are sure to be busy and packed with everyone trying to fight for a treadmill.

Lifestyle Family Fitness is my gym and where I spend most of my time!!! They are located at 21 East State Street in the Fifth Third Bank building right across from the State House. There location is minutes from the Convention Center and all hotels downtown. There is street parking and also a garage that charges $2 per hour when you get your voucher stamped in the gym. This gym has everything you could possibly need! They have an exceptional plyometric room with kettle bells and jumping blocks as well as plenty of room to do other plyo exercises. They also have a large studio that is open to everyone to use when classes are not in session. For other cardio work, they have treadmills, bikes, cybex trainers, stair masters, stepmills and rowing machines. The gym has free weights, and plenty of machines, benches, cables and squat racks. The area is well maintained and very clean and not overwhelmingly busy. If you mention reading this article on Hardbody, they will offer you a $5 day pass (normally $12).

Metro Fitness located on Long Street has been the well known gym to attend while at the Arnold. It is a true bodybuilding gym but does not offer the extensive amount of cardiovascular training and other equipment for figure, fitness and bikini competitors.

Urban Active in Grandview is about a five-ten minute drive and just opened a few months ago. They gym is nice and brand new! They have an indoor running tack as well and lap pool. There day passes are a bit more expensive if you do not already have an active membership.

TANNING
For those reading living in Florida or California… or any other with fabulous weather year round, you may find this section unnecessary or comical but for those living in the Midwest, you empathize with me!

Polo Tan, located at 585 S Front St, about a 3-5 minute drive from the Convention Center (also right by the Kroger Shopping Center) is the only place I recommend to go! There staff is exceptional and their beds are well maintained and clean. The best part is, if you mention this article, they will give you 20% off on tanning and lotions. They have 4 levels of tanning to include high pressure deep bronzing beds and 10 minute mega beds with face and shoulder tanners. They also provide airbrush tanning by Infinity Sun Custom Airbrush, which is by appointment only. If you are working a booth or doing a photo shoot, they can easily adjust your level of color and the service is top notch! If you need to make an appointment, you can call the salon at 614-628-0068.

They are open Mon-Thurs 10am – 9pm, Fri 10am – 8pm, Sat 9am – 6pm and Sun 11am – 5pm.

SUPPLEMENT STORES
Grandview Nutrition, 994 W 5th Avenue, is a locally owned supplement store and where I buy all of my supplements. They will price match anything online, and if you are going there for a particular item that you cannot get at the expo, call ahead and see if they have it in stock, 614-291-5590. If they do not have it, they can direct you where to go. There staff is very knowledgeable and very courteous.

PHOTO SHOOT CLOTHING
Last but not least, if you need any last minute photo shoot clothing, the best place to go for sexy items is The Garden (thegardencolumbus.net) located north of the Convention Center on High Street. They have lingerie, costumes and a variety of high heels and boots. If you are coming from the Convention Center, it is on the right, and you cannot miss the window display! There are a variety of other places to shop on High Street in the Short North, but for those items in particular, it is the best place to go.

Hopefully this information will make your trip to the Arnold Classic a little easier and more enjoyable. If there is something I missed or if you have other questions, please feel free to message me on Facebook at IFBB Pro Stephanie Billings.

Dina Al-Sabah: Cranky…Tired…Hungry

IFBB Bikini Pro Dina Al-Sabah shares her final guest blog before trekking to Columbus. Dina has competed in Columbus before but on the Figure International stage. Read what Dina is feeling/thinking with less than one week to go.

Cranky, tired, hungry…hungry, tired, cranky… tick tock… hurry up food clock… that is how I have been feeling for the last two days. It is as if I have a furnace burning and I am STARVING by the time I finish my meal. I cannot make it past 2pm without wanting to fall asleep. I don’t want to talk to anyone. I don’t want to look at anyone… GRRRRRRR Last week I was dealing with a huge lack of self-confidence and general unhappiness with the way I looked. This week though I have overcome the self-confidence issues, I am faced with a general restlessness and a sense of wanting to cry every 5 minutes.

Due to my crazy  schedule, I leave to DC on Saturday and from there head out to Ohio on Thursday March 3rd. The good news is that I wont have to deal with jet lag in Ohio, the bad news is that I have to deal with making sure all my stuff is packed and ready to go right away.

First, my care box… this is the box I ship to the hotel for my show. In it I have sheets, towels, back up shoes, supplements, sweat pants, tanning pajamas and whatever else won’t fit in my carry-on bag as I refuse to check my luggage.

Next, I pack the essentials into my carry-on… these are the things I absolutely cannot replace… like my PassionFruit Design suits (I take a back-up just in case). I also have meetings to attend in DC so I have to make sure that I have clothing packed for those as well… and have my meals planned. I pack my Yammit dried sweet potato along with my nuts as I have found that it is fairly easy to find a clean protein source, but harder to find carb and fat sources that my body can tolerate since I have food allergies and intolerances. I know that many of you wonder how I manage to travel so much and yet stay focused for my shows, and my answer is meticulous planning and always having a back-up plan should anything go awry.

I am already thinking of my post contest meal. Steak and wine is really all I want, and just thinking about it makes me salivate.

See you in Columbus!

East vs West – Muscle & Fitness HERS Cover Contest

This is a sweet opportunity for all IFBB Figure Pros. The New York Pro Figure has moved to May 28, 2011 and will be held in conjunction with the New York Pro Men’s Bodybuilding show. In previous years, the IFBB NY Pro Figure had been held during the Team Universe weekend. The show happens to fall on the same weekend as the California Pro Figure. What does this mean for competitors? A showdown of the winners from each contest to decides who will be on an upcoming issue of Muscle & Fitness HERS.

Considering how much the sport of figure has grown in recent years, it was only a matter of time before one coast wasn’t big enough for the IFBB Pro League. That’s why, on May 28, IFBB Pro League will feature the first-ever “East vs West Figure Showdown” by holding two contests simultaneously on separate coasts, where the overall winners will compete in an online vote for an upcoming cover of Muscle & Fitness Hers.

“It shows the strength of the figure division,” said IFBB Pro League President Jim Manion. “The sport has been growing in the NPC and IFBB Pro League for years, so this was a natural progression. I think it’s great that Muscle & Fitness Hers is doing this, it’s going to hype both contests even more. May the best woman win.”

In one corner is the California State Pro Figure Championships; in the other, the New York Pro Figure Championships. Whoever comes out on top in each of those contests will be featured in a first-ever online vote, presented by Muscle & Fitness Hers, where fans will be able to vote in a pose-by-pose showdown for the East Versus West Figure Showdown winner. Whoever wins will be flown out to Los Angeles for a photo shoot and cover try with Muscle & Fitness Hers magazine!

“The California Pro has always kicked off the season on the west coast, so to be able to bring more fanfare to the contest is always a good thing,” California Pro Figure Promoter John Lindsay said. “Obviously the growth of figure and the number of women competing today made an event like this possible, and I’m very happy to have the California Pro be a part of this.”

The New York Pro Figure Championships were traditionally held on the same night as the NPC Team Universe, which will take place on July 8-9 this year. The even was moved to May to coincide with the New York Pro Men’s Bodybuilding Championships, one of the most prestigious events on the IFBB Pro League schedule. “The New York Pro was the first pro figure show on the East Coast, so I’m very proud to be a part of this,” New York Pro Figure promoter Steve Weinberger said. “There are great figure girls all over the country and I’m proud my show is representing the East Coast. We will put on a great show.”

Tune in to all of the action at the California State Pro Figure Championships and the New York Pro Figure Championships on May 28, then vote for your favorite on Monday, May 31 on Muscle & Fitness Hers!

Ass Cam Video Goes Viral

Two New Zealand hardbody women have accomplished what many companies spend millions trying to achieve. Jessie Gurunathan and Reanin Johannink, of Auckland, created a video that has gone viral. Meaning, millions of people are sharing the link and talking about the video. What’s the big idea? It’s so simple, it’s brilliant. A hidden camera in the seat of a pair of jeans. So far over 7 million people have viewed the video and it have over 5 million in the first 6 days.

The video starts with Reanin asking, “Hey guys, have you ever wondered what goes on behind your back?”  They have the answer. A camera hidden in the jeans to bust people checking out the booty.

I reached out to one of the ladies to find out more. When I asked Jessie what made them do the video. She said, “Reanin is one of my best friends. It was a fun way for us to do something together in LA where she was based at the time.”

Here’s a look at the “Behind-The-Scenes” video of how it was made.

I’ll give them props they pulled the video off with flying colors. But wait…

If something appears too good to be true, it often is, right? It seems this video was actually orchestrated by ad agency, Colenso BBDO Auckland. The video is actually part of a Levi’s Curve ID Skinny Jeans campaign. Levi’s did what most companies would never dream of doing. They left their logo off and there was no mention of Levi’s anywhere in the spot.

“Anyway, Levi’s tells us it’s the fastest, most successful viral campaign Levi’s has ever done, and it’s only just started, so we’re pretty chuffed.” That’s what Colenso BBDO, Auckland executive creative director Nick Worthington shared with campaignbrief.com earlier this week.

Does knowing that the video was actually created by an ad campaign change anything? It may have been a little clue that there was more to it, given that both women are gorgeous and have sexy accents. Props to everyone involved with the video. Regardless of if it’s a marketing piece for Levi’s or not, I dig it.

Michelle Tarajcak Takes Top Honors at the FLEX Bikini Model Search

On Saturday, thirty-two hard body ladies took the stage at the 2011 FLEX Bikini Model Search in Los Angeles. There were a variety of bodies from tall and lean to short and ripped. Some women had some interesting shoe and suit choices, while others tried to get creative with their posing. At the end of it all the best overall package would earn a spot at the FLEX Bikini Model Search Finals. The finals will be held in September in conjunction with the Olympia Weekend.

California girl Michelle Tarajcak took home the top spot and Courtney Prather was in the runner-up spot. All the women in the top five spots were in good condition and presented well on stage. Michelle had a sexy look and Courtney was more a “cute” woman. Courtney’s color/tanning was a little off and it might have cost her the win. Both women have nice looks and will be ones to watch this year.

Rounding out the top five was Janaina Barrel in third, Amanda Carrier in fourth and Shirley Moran finished fifth. Amanda was competing in her first show and is a proud momma. If you didn’t recognize her, you weren’t alone. Amanda changed up her look. Check out this photo from the 2008 Fit Expo for a reminder.

Remember this was not a NPC bikini event, so the shoes, suits and presentation you see is not the same as the NPC.

Jodie Minear is Back with a Bang

IFBB Figure Pro Jodie Minear made a few rookie competition mistakes but those days are behind her. You live and learn, right? Jodie checks in and shares what she’s changing up with her contest prep. Jodie will be competing at the St. Louis Pro Figure event next month.

It’s Tank-top Time! That’s right it’s dieting time for many people and I’m one of them. I’m less than six weeks out and trying to come back with a bang. I have been dieting for the last eight weeks and I’m finally feeling like I’m headed in the right direction. I know this direction because it leads me to donuts and sweets so I find myself running away. That or I usually lie to myself and tell myself they really don’t taste that great, kinda like chicken. Clearly delusional, haha. I’m doing cardio every morning and night. While some are going out on the weekends any extra time I have will be spent in the store smelling veggies. I wouldn’t have it any other way, and I’m glad there are people out there just like me. Thank you, you know who you are. I have switched up my weight training so I focus on my shoulders and legs the most. I find that these are my weaker areas so I have to double up on them to keep improving. Thanks to my trainer and good friend Greg Corriere we are keeping my training fresh and new every week. I also changed my diet this year which has played the biggest part in my improvements and I’m more than happy to share these nuggets with you so it can help you too. I do the blood type diet. This really plays on how you digest your food. For example I have blood type A+ which means I do not have the right enzymes for digesting beef, so I stick to fish which is perfect for my type. Although if your a type O you should have more beef because it is utilized perfectly for your blood type. Please check this stuff out it will change your life. Thanks for listening and let me share.

Jodie

Hardbody Style’n with Cindy – The Client Calls the Shots

Our resident stylist is back with a ton of great tips and insight from her world as a professional stylist. Cindy Whitehead aka The Sports Stylist® calls California home but she’s always traveling and works with some of the biggest names in sports. Fitness women who have shot with Muscle & Fitness Hers always rave about the clothes Cindy finds. There’s a great deal of work that goes into her job and she’s a professional at if for a reason. She knows what she’s doing and she’s damn good at it. We’re honored to have Cindy share her insight and tips with the Hardbody family. Enjoy.

Cindy’s Insight/Tip of the Week:

When you get hired (aka paid) to be in a magazine photo shoot or advertisement, you have to try and remember that it’s really up to the client, stylist, & hair & make-up person as to how they want you to look. Unlike a test shoot that you pay for, this team was hired by the client and that’s ultimately who they need to please. The best models (think fashion models you admire) can make anything look great – so rock whatever look they decide on and try to be open minded.

This is a great tip as many models forget this on a shoot. When you pay for the shoot you can dictate the look and how your make up is but when you’re paid to shoot you’re there to do a job. I’ve been on the photographer side of things with this insight and when the model is pouting and complaining about her make up or the clothing it’s not professional. If you want to get hired again put a happy face and rock whatever outfit your wearing or hair style you’re sporting. If you complain and act like a diva your chances of shooting for that team again are slim to none.

Check out Cindy’s blog on cindywhitehead.blogspot.com. You can also follow her on twitter.com (@sportstylist) to see what she’s up to next.

Hardbody Interview: Who is Jessica Clay?

IFBB Pro Jessica Clay will be competing at the Arnold for the second time in her career. The first time she stepped on the Arnold stage was as a Fitness competitor but this time around she will compete as a bikini competitor. Jessica refined her physique and found her groove at the end of the 2010 season and she’s looking to pick up where she left off. Many people aren’t familiar with who Jessica Clay is so I caught up with the Columbus cutie to find out more. I was pleasantly surprised to learn that this hardbody has more going on than just her looks.

Name:
Jessica Clay

Born in:
Delaware, Ohio

Currently Live in:
Columbus, Ohio

Any pets?
Yes dog Lily, and 3 rescued cats; animals always appear on my doorstep. Really want to rescue a hedgehog.

LMAO! A hedgehog… Can those be rescued and where might one find a hog hedging?

Yes there are several places to rescue a hedgehog, you def don’t want to buy one at a pet store, there are certain problems with some hedgehogs purchased at pet stores.
Pet stores have been known to keep male and female hedgehog babies together past the age of sexual maturity. If you purchase a female hedgehog from a pet store you may run the risk of having an unwanted pregnancy in a very young hedgehog.

Breeders will make sure that hedgehog babies are eating and drinking well after weaning. This will help make a more successful transition to your home. This is not always done with hedgehogs reared in pet stores.

Hedgehog breeders know their hedgehog’s lineage going back through the generations and breed based on a good health history. Most pet stores do not. Lol… I am looking for an albino one 😉 But you see I have 3 cats and that could become a problem.

FYI… check the pet store before you buy any type of animal or critter, this isn’t just about a hedgehog… That adorable puppy in the window… yikes… PUPPY MILLS

Most dog lovers know about the often horrid conditions of puppy mills, the unregulated breeding facilities owned by disreputable breeders. Dogs are often bred far too frequently, are kept cramped together in tight conditions, rather sad, and are not socialized with humans. These breeders do not always care about the health and strength of the breed, which often results in genetic illnesses, poor health in general and unlikable personality traits.

There are some pet stores that buy their puppies from commercial kennels regulated by the Department of Agriculture. However, even these pups tend to be unhealthy and unsocialized. This is partly due to the fact that commercial kennels tend to breed many different breeds in one facility and they breed for quantity, not quality. Therefore, their interest does not lie in the healthy promotion of a certain breed but rather in how many sales they can get. So, before you buy that cute puppy in the window, consider the downsides of pet store pups.

I think I need a nap after that one. That’s what I get for questioning your headhogging.

What kind of dog is Lily?
Cavapoo! She was supposed to be 8lbs but ended up being 18. She goes to work with me everyday along with 5 other pups that are at the office as well!

18lbs? What kind of diet do you have your dog on – or lack there of? Lol
My Mom feeds her a secret food and she won’t tell me what it is, so she won’t eat dog food so I have to feed her Organic Ground beef… Oh my… She isn’t chubby, I believe the breeder fibbed to me though on her actual size.

Lily kick’n it on the couch with some booties.

Occupation:
Owner of Clay Creative an integrated marketing communications agency. Co-creator of EcoChics Earthwear; environmentally friendly clothing line.

“Integrated Marketing Communication Agency” sounds like you wear fancy pants. What type of clients do you work with and how did you get into marketing?

Clay Creative has been in business for over 30 years, I took 51% ownership this year. It is a family-owned business with my Dad. As he begins to consider retirement I begin to take over. We do business with mostly Fortune 500 companies, for instance Abbott Nutrition (Similac, Isomil, Ensure, Pedialyte, etc), Scotts, Nationwide, Highlights for Children, McGraw-Hill and etc. I went to school originally for Psychology and switched over to the communication/marketing side and felt it was a better fit. I love it! I always thought I’d be in NY at a large agency, but my life became established and I decided to stay here and take over the family legacy!

What makes a clothing line environmentally friendly?
All of our products are 100% organic cotton or an organic blend. So it’s good for you and good for our planet.

What is “organic cotton?”
Organic cotton is grown using methods and materials that have a low impact on the environment. Organic production systems replenish and maintain soil fertility, reduce the use of toxic and persistent pesticides and fertilizers, and build biologically diverse agriculture. Third-party certification organizations verify that organic producers use only methods and materials allowed in organic production. Organic cotton is grown without the use of toxic and persistent pesticides and synthetic fertilizers. In addition, federal regulations prohibit the use of genetically engineered seed for organic farming. All cotton sold as organic in the United States must meet strict federal regulations covering how the cotton is grown.

How did you come up with the clothing line?

My partner and I were sitting one day drinking some wine and talking about how we can make a difference, and all of a sudden the wine kicked in and we thought of EcoChics Earthwear. It is a way to spread the word… small steps lead to big changes… A percentage of all our profits go to American Forests (planting trees). So we try to spread the word in all angles possible. Clothes with a message, clothes for a cause.

Where can people find out more about it?
EcoChicsEarthwear.com, we are currently in the process of re-branding our message, look and feel.

Will you be wearing your own EcoChics track suit for upcoming competitions?
Yes. I will definitely be wearing an inspirational tee saying EcoCourage! That’ll be a good message for the Arnold! Courage to kick some serious butt!

The Eco Chics having some fun on a shoot.

How did you get into competing?
I am a former gymnast that was unable to compete in college due to an injury so I took a couple years off and during my Junior year of college I decided that I would like to try something new/compete again, so I researched and discovered Mike Davies/The Fitness Factory so I have been training with him ever since and began competing in Fitness.

What other sports / athletics did you participate in during high school college?
Gymnastics, track, basketball

Anything you do athletic wise besides train for the stage?
I do CrossFit at Rogue Columbus, TGM (Tracey Gardner Method) yoga, Tennis

Jessica kick’n some CrossFit ass.

What was your favorite part about competing in Fitness?
Practicing my routine at the gym, since I grew up in the gym the feeling there is very comfortable and safe. Also, I love the preparation and the nervousness, such powerful feelings.

What made you make the switch to bikini?

I tore my glute right before jr. Nationals before I won my pro card in fitness and figure at Team U. It took FOREVER to heal, it was so frustrating. So I thought it was time to adjust my thinking and give my body time to heal (as far as gymnastics/routine goes) so I tried Figure, but I found that I could not get as hard and as big as others, then just like that, it was fate (lol), bikini came about and I thought this is perfect for me, I love to strut and I feel it fits me perfectly.

A lot of women talk about getting injured from gymnastics. Why do you think that is and is there a way to prevent it?
Well I believe that what we know now with balanced nutrition is so important. The coaches need to be educated in those areas as well, not just gymnastics. Also, I think it is important to have strength training not meaning lifting but rather strengthening the attachments around the muscles. The constant pounding of a gymnasts body is so bad, I think more focus on the muscles around the joints is a good idea. And nowadays there is more padding to cushion the falls and constant pounding, not when I was doing gymnastics, we were lucky to have one spring floor. So kids today have more body support to work with. Gymnastics is an extreme sport, if you have never played this individual sport it is hard to comprehend the intensity of the sport, it takes balance, concentration and athleticism and mental toughness… “never cry” suck it up and do it…

You’re one of the chosen to be part of the Bikini International. How’s it feel competing in front of you hometown fans in Ohio?
Ooo la la I am so stoked, I have so many friends and family coming to see me, I am so excited I could do a little dance! It’s gonna rock!

A little dance – like Elaine on Seinfeld or more of a Rick James dance?
Like Carlton on Fresh Prince 😉

Are you preparing any differently for the Bikini International vs the Fitness International?
The prep is still the same except I don’t have a routine to practice for, the prep is hard work each and every day, but I love it! Hours of work a day of preparation is so rewarding at the end of the day! Woo hoo!

Any tips on making chicken taste better?
Hold my nose, chew really quick and swallow. I can’t stand chicken. That’s how I eat my eggs as well, I pour the amount in the measuring cup, grab a pink straw and drink it super quick.

Any supplements you couldn’t live without?
Met-rx Glutamine, Met-rx Super Green Powder. And I love my Xtreme Shocks!

What’s the one song that gets you pumped in the gym currently?

The Temper Trap “Sweet Disposition”, and Swedish House Mafia “One” and Madonna “Revolver”; I also listen to opera during my morning cardio.

You listed three songs instead of one but ok. LOL. OPERA during morning cardio? What’s up with that?
Opera is relaxing yet it gets me moving at a good pace and gets me ready for the day!

Do blondes have more fun?
Well of course!

Will you be at any booths or making any appearances during the Arnold weekend?

Met-rx! Go team Met-rx! Such an amazing group of peeps!

Met-rx booth? Sweet! They are great people & we love Teresa. Have you worked with them before?
Yes I have been with them for going on 2 years, this will be my second year with Met-rx, yes Teresa is a great friend!

Any advice to young women looking to get into competing?
Indeed, what I have learned in this industry is NO MATTER WHAT be yourself and don’t change or lower your standards for anyone or anything. It is important to keep your morals and values strong for you as a person but then it’ll reflect to others, be a role model to yourself and it will reflect to others and don’t let anything get in the way of your vision. Hard work and determination does pay off, it may take you longer to reach your goal but you will get there!

Jessica performing her fitness routine.

Do you carry a gallon jug with you at all times?
No I don’t think that looks very feminine, just a personal opinion.

I hear you’re quite the world traveler – how did you get started traveling the globe?
Life is short and I have quite the bucket list… no time to mess around… I want to hit all continents by age of 40. I am somewhat of a gypsy, I go with what I feel like on a day to day basis, no time to plan rather plan and do it and make it happen asap! I have always enjoyed experiencing new cultures, languages, food, climates and etc., there are so many other things outside where I live to see and experience, it is overwhelming to think about at times… so much to do so little time.

What are some of the adventures have you done over the years?
I lived in Merida, Mexico and London, England. I love to travel to the most exotic places; I visited 4 eco-systems in Brazil where I slept in huts and ate strange plants and fished for piranhas. Did a bike and barge off the coast of the North Sea. Went horseback riding in Albert, Banff, Canada where less that 1% of the population has ever seen, slept in the freezing cold with foil to keep me warm, Most recently, did an excursion through Costa Rica where my boyfriend was bitten by the most venomous snake, yikes. And I will be visiting very soon Borneo, Malaysia where I will be studying climate change with a Science team of experts and snake proof boots are a requirement 😉

Favorite place you’ve visited thus far?
Hmmm each place has it’s own flare, I can’t have a favorite it just wouldn’t be fair to judge. I can only say my favorite thing about each place, all places have its unique quality.

What’s the biggest difference when it comes to eating/food in other countries compared to the US?
Ewww… foods in other countries rock, there isn’t anything I wouldn’t eat… I will eat anything… I have eaten bugs, plants and weird/odd things that I have no idea what it is, as long as it won’t kill me I will eat it!

You’ve fished for piranhas in Brazil…Did you catch any?
Oh yes I was the master piranha catcher!

How do they taste?
Actually you do not eat the actual fish you boil it and eat the broth, the broth is said to be an aphrodisiac! It was very tasty!

“Said to be an afrodisiac” (air quotes) was it?

No it wasn’t, unless I saw an anaconda, then I would of been so excited… That doesn’t really make sense. Oh well … I still explained the soup, huge dork I am…

Piranha Soup (Caldo de Piranha)
This is a typical dish from the Pantanal, flavorful and appreciated for its aphrodisiac quality.
The soup is usually served in a bowl or cup, adding a healthy dollop of hot sauce. Some people prefer to thicken the soup with manioc flour (manioc is like our potato in the states, although it is a poisonous root there is a tough process to extract the poison) tastes like sawdust, yum.
The soup is usually served as an appetizer with a side of crackers, before a fish meal or barbeque.

Have you tried sleeping in foil in Ohio to keep warm?
LMAO… Well since aluminum isn’t the best for a human, I don’t typically, but if my electric goes out I will most definitely do it.

Jessica in Costa Rica.

You mentioned Costa Rica. I was just there and it’s AWESOME. Where did you go and is this about your boyfriend getting bitten by a snake and is he ok?
We (my boyfriend and I) visited the Eastern side of Costa Rica, it was supposed to be an adventure trip sleeping in huts and doing crazy activities, but we only made it to day 3 and we had arrived at Mount Arenal and the sky was overcast so we couldn’t even see the volcano that our hut was in… and I of course wanted wine, chips and salsa at 9pm, we left our hut and headed on the trail, I was a few steps ahead of him and sure enough he yelped and said something bit him, he said he thought it was a lizard, I said they don’t bite, we ran back inside our hut I took a look at the bite and I knew right away it was a snake, I seem to know a lot about snakes… so I packed all the crucial materials, mind you I had just showered so I only had raggedy sweats on and tennis shoes with no socks and most definitely no make-up on… I told him to grab the camera and take photos of the snake to make sure the docs can see the type of snake it is if we need antivenin… so … long story this is, I will make it short… we made it to the lobby like place and I yelled for someone… they came I showed the pic of the snake and right at that point my bf collapsed and started convulsing … it normally takes 10 minutes for the venom to attack a human if it is a venomous snake… it is the top 3 most venomous snakes in Costa Rica/ South America. Yikes 2 options, rush to closest clinic to be treated with the antivenin, made it in time, but then we had to rush no nearest hospital, which was a hour and a half away which was a public hospital or 4 hours to the private… it was life and death so we picked the closest the public… most miserable experience ever. We were there for 5 days… I had to sleep in this ghetto hotel called Lucky’s… I took it as a sign… lol… all the docs could say in English was “he is so lucky”. Blah… thank God I speak Spanish or else I would have had no idea what was going on… on and on, we transitioned back to San Jose where we had to keep him bed rest for 3 more days because of the infection… needless-to-say, we made it to the US, we had several scientists following this situation and guiding me thru the process… people were fascinated by this experience… so he almost died in Costa Rica and then back home he almost died again one exact week later with what is call serum sickness… but he made it out alive… whew amazingly crazy experience, one to definitely tell my children someday… if it was me that was bitten, I would of died because of my size. The terciopelo “fer-de-lance” attacks a human thru the blood and nerves, it attacked him evenly… it was a 4.5 foot adult snake, which if it was a baby snake it would of released too much venom that would kill a human because baby snakes can’t control the amount released so again we were lucky! Word of that trip “LUCKY”

Any plans to go back to Costa Rica?
Yes, I think I’d like to go back and visit some friends I made there someday and maybe visit the western side to surf… Perhaps I’ll make the trip back there less of an adventure trip.

Why Malaysia as the next trip?
My business partner and I with EcoChics Earthwear are obsessed with the rainforest, so we thought this would be a great opportunity to study with a team of scientists on climate change in Malaysian Borneo and also a great thing to blog about to actually prove “EcoChics” do make a difference!

Climate change?
Climate affects the distribution, diversity, and abundance of species, the pattern of habitats, and ecosystem dynamics. It also shapes human responses to the environment, which ultimately influence economies and social patterns. A sustainable future depends on everyone developing a better understanding of how climate change will affect vulnerable species, habitats, and the ecosystem services that support human life. The time for action is now!

Wow! I’ve gotta say that I had no idea that the quiet bikini competitor backstage had so much going on  in life. Thanks for taking the time to share it with the readers of Hardbody and all the best at the Bikini International.
Thank you!

Bikini International Prep – Ali Rosen’s Happy Meals

IFBB Bikini Pro, Ali Rosen updates us on her Bikini International prep. In this installment she discusses the joys of her cheat meal, which she has renamed her “Happy Meal”. Check out the recipes Ali followed to create a little happiness in her prep.

There seems to be one night of the week that tends to be filled with angst, enthusiasm, joy and possibly guilt…I’m referring to what I call my “cheat meal.” When I first started competing, ALL I would think about was food! I couldn’t wait for my one and only night to go off my diet and enjoy what I had sacrificed: Tasty, yummy food. As I have grown within the sport I have had to change my outlook on numerous sacrifices. With this change of outlook, I came to realize that my cheat meal should not be something I can’t stop planning and talking about, rather it should be enjoyable and carefree. It seemed like as the days got closer to this night, I would think of it as my “last supper.” I would obsess over ALL the goodies I wanted and knew I shouldn’t have, leaving me to feel even more deprived. I have come to a healthy point where I found a great solution to this persistent problem: Cooking my own cheat meals. Since I love to cook and it has been something I had to put aside during competing, I decided to try cooking my own cheat meal. It turned out to be enjoyable, guilt free and brought some peace into my hectic schedule. It was something I could virtually do with any one of my friends and even host a dinner at my place.

I have always said I wanted to cook my own cheat meal, but in the past was too tired or thought of it making me more hungry and agitated. During my Arnold prep, my cheat meal was one thing I set out to change. For the majority of the past 7 weeks of dieting I have cooked my own cheat meals, which I have pleasantly renamed my Happy Meal. Since I moved closer to my family, it is something I do with my mom. My passion for nutrition stemmed from loving to cook healthy and it was my mom that inspired my love for cooking.

Ali and her momma cook’n up some happiness together.

My typical Saturday consists of cardio, a nice massage with my mom, grilling my food for the following week and prepping my Happy Meal. I try to make my Saturdays as enjoyable as can be. I will try and do things different than my routine of the week: Renting or seeing a movie, taking a relaxing walk on the beach, playing with my new puppies, reading outside near the pool etc. I do things that will constantly instill feelings of relaxation and joy. I honestly can say that it pulls me through my week because I am looking forward to the one day where I can be relaxed and do something off my routine from the week. Psychologically, I have found that cooking my cheat meals prohibits excessive snacking and eating. I am conscious of what is in my food and I prefer this to eating out where I second guess every plate set down before me. My Happy Meal consists of a complex carbohydrate, protein, fat and a veggie. I will cook and use ingredients that aren’t commonly found in my diet, to ensure my cheat has its ultimate affect: To shock my body!

Last week I tried three recipes that were new to me: A Frittata with sweet potato hash browns and homemade yogurt! It was a fun, enjoyable day of cooking and, quite frankly didn’t consist of hours in the kitchen prepping and cooking, another key tip. I will make recipes that don’t expend too much energy as it is my one-day to chill. Last weekend, my grandmother popped in and it turned out to be a great girl’s night! I will share with you these recipes and I hope they will help anyone trying to eat clean or dieting competitors. Other great resources for clean, quick recipes I find in a great magazine called Clean Eating and Muscle & Fitness HERS online or magazine. Both magazines can be found at Barnes and Noble.

Until next week, Eat Clean, Train Hard & Stay Positive!
