Olympia Qualification Series – Adapts a Point System

The IFBB Professional League introduced an Olympia qualification rule last Fall that many fans and competitors scratching their heads. The change reduced the number of Olympia Qualifications to the top four at the Olympia, top three at the Arnold Classic, top two at the New York Pro and the winner at all other shows. The announcement noted that the Olympia may offer special invites with the revised system. Thankfully we won’t have to worry about how a special invite selection will take place. We’ll also see a renewed interest from competitors and fans with an announcement that was made today.

The IFBB Pro League introduced a new Olympia Qualification system that is based on points. Effective immediately, competitors who enter and place consistently in the top five will still have a chance to see the Olympia stage. The five competitors (in each division) with the highest point totals will qualify to compete at the Olympia.

Also with this new announcement, all competitors who place in the top five at the 2012 Olympia will be qualified for the following year (2013). Last year only the top four in each division automatically qualified for this year (2012) Olympia.

In a press release issued by the IFBB, League Chairman Jim Manion said, “We think this is a great way to expand the number of Olympia qualifiers beyond those who win contests and to build excitement for all IFBB Pro League events throughout the course of the year.”

Props to Mr. Manion, the IFBB Pro League, Robin Chang and everyone else involved in this change. It’s a move that will build excitement back into the shows and follow who is in the top five point totals throughout the year.
