2012 IFBB Kentucky Pro Muscle Figure Preview

The 2012 Kentucky Muscle Pro is the second to last Pro Figure show of the year. Currently, there are 17 women looking to leave Louisville with an Olympia qualification. Only one will do so and four others will collect points in the Olympia Point Series. The show doesn’t have many “big names” so to speak which will make it a bit more interesting for fans to follow. There are a few likely favorites heading into the show and ones to watch in the mix for a top spot.

Look for Alicia Harris to be the one to beat if she’s in the condition we know she’s capable of achieving. She’s coming off a 4th place finish at the Ft. Lauderdale Cup and has the tendency to do better at the end of the year. She’ll likely be challenged by Ann Titone for the top spot. Ann is coming off a 12th place finish at the Olympia, one spot behind… you guessed it Alicia Harris. Aside from the Olympia, Ann finished in the top five in each of the shows she competed in this year. She took home her first win at the Tampa Pro and if she brings that look to the stage in Kentucky, she could leave the winner. Look for Dana Ambrose to hang in the top spots again after her pro debut in Houston where she finished in third. Krista Dunn will look to move up into the top five after a respectable 9th place finish at her debut in Florida earlier this month. Jessie Hilgenberg will be making her pro debut after achieving pro status at the 2012 NPC USAs. Simone Mack was 15th at the Ft. Lauderdale Cup but look for her to move up at this show and make a run for the top five. Another likely contender for the top spots is Chikondi Mseka. She was fifth at this show last year and has the potential to be in the mix once again.

My dark horse pick to shake things up in the top five is Monica Labriola. She put together an impressive run in the NPC before turning pro at the 2012 North Americans. She’ll be one of the shorter competitors on stage but has tremendous shape and could be in the top spots her first time out. Keep an eye on her to be in the mix.

This show is held in conjunction with the NPC Kentucky Muscle, which tends to have a large turn out. In years past this show runs long and it could be a tiring day depending on how the show is scheduled. Those of you contributing via twitter use #KentuckyMuscle as the hashtag for show coverage.

2012 IFBB Sacramento Pro Bikini Preview

This weekend in Sacramento, California marks one of the final shows for the IFBB Pro Bikini division. Surprisingly, there are only 9 women entered in the show. Despite the low numbers it won’t stop the top spots from being competitive. Amanda Latona is coming off a win at the Border States and will look to collect her second win in a row. She’ll square off against a number of the women she faced in San Diego last week and has to be the favorite in the show.

sacramento pro bikini
Amanda went back to what worked last week and it paid off. No wild hair and odd posing like we saw at the Olympia. If Amanda brings the same look to Sacramento she’ll leave the champ once again. She won this show last year and is the one to beat again this year. Tiffany Marie Boydston was in the runner-up position to Amanda and if she can repeat that it will be a win for her. She’s one of the smaller competitors in the line-up and has a look the judges reward. She’ll face a different panel of judges this weekend so we’ll have to see how they place her.  Tawna Eubanks found success on this stage last year when she finished second to Amanda Latona. Don’t be surprised if she is in a similar spot again this year.

Noy Alexander has been competing pretty much all year and shows that when you don’t fall off your nutrition plan you can consistently stay in shape. I like her physique and the look she brings to the stage. She was a bit better in San Diego than she was in Houston and look for her to be in the hunt. Jessica Arevalo continues to improve her stage presence and when she takes the stage with confidence she shines. Look for her to hold her own if she’s able to put the nerves aside and exude the confidence that earned her pro status. It’s been about a year since Theresa Bryne was on stage. She’s only competed in a couple of shows since turning pro so it will be a coin flip on what we’ll see her bring to the stage this weekend. Ashley LeBlanc has a fourth and a fifth place finish to her credit since turning pro at the 2012 NPC USAs. If she can repeat the top five finish again, she’ll add to her Olympia Point Series total. Janelle-Saitone-McGuire has classy stage presence and continues to improve. She doesn’t have the same amount of muscle as some of the other women in this line-up but should be in the mix. Maureen Doherty rounds out the line-up and will look to improve her placing in this her third pro show.

3. Tiffany Marie Boydston
4. Theresa Byrne

6. Tawna Eubanks

8. Ashley LeBlanc
9. Janelle Saitone-McGuire

The competition is held in conjunction with the NPC Sacramento which looks to have over 300 competitors. This show is often a launching pad for competitors heading into the NPC Nationals next week. We’ve seen a number of women do well in Sacramento and go on to achieve pro status at the Nationals. One added benefit of doing this show is getting in front of Sandy Williamson who is the head judge of the IFBB Pro women’s division. As a NPC competitor you can get valuable feedback on what works and what doesn’t in order to make it on the next level.

2012 IFBB Border States Bikini Results & Photos

Amanda Latona found herself back in the winner’s circle once again in San Diego over the weekend. This was Amanda’s third show of the year but first win. The win qualifies her for the 2013 Bikini Olympia. She wisely returned to the Amanda of “old” – meaning she brought back the polished look judges and fans have come to expect from the cover girl. Finish in second was Tiffany Boydston and rounding out the top three was Stacey Alexander.

Amanda Latona Border States
The second through fifth place finishers pick up points towards the 2013 Bikini Olympia and with just two shows left in the calendar year, look for a number of the same women to be entering the remaining shows.

Noy Alexander bounced back into the top five after an 11th place finish earlier this month at the Houston Pro. Ashley Cronley LeBlanc finished in the top five once again. This just her second pro show she’s been in the top five at both shows. If she continues to stay consistently in the top five she could find herself in the mix for an Olympia birth via the Point Series.

IFBB Prague Pro Bikini Results

The IFBB Evl’s Prague Pro Bikini results are in and the winner wasn’t much of a surprise. Canada’s Justine Munro leaves the Czech Republic with another victory, a check for $7,000 and an Olympia qualification. As mentioned in the Hardbody preview, dark horse Anna Virmajoki gave her a run for her money and finished in the second place spot, a great finish in her pro debut. Rounding out the top three was Noemi Olah from Hungary. Last week’s British Grand Prix winner, Michelle Brannan slipped to fifth and Nikola Weiterova moved into fourth. The American field of women failed to crack the top 6.

Lolo Jones Makes the US National Bobsled Team

Lolo Jones was America’s sweetheart heading into the London Olympics despite others having faster times in the 100m Hurdles. Now the track star is trying her hand at the U.S. Bobsled team. Whodda thunk?  She joins a team with a mix of veterans and rookies; she’s not the only female Olympic athlete on the roster. Olympians Tianna Madison and Emily Azevedo were also named to the national team. When’s the last time the Bobsled received this much attention? It’s likely been 20 years, when NFL football star Hershel Walker earned a spot on the 1992 Olympic team.

PRESS RELEASE
U.S. national bobsled team named

LAKE PLACID, N.Y. (Oct. 25, 2012) – The 2012-2013 national bobsled team is composed of a diverse roster of powerful and determined athletes who are eager to carry the momentum from last season’s success into the upcoming World Cup circuit.

This season’s women’s bobsled team is a mix of rookies and veterans. Elana Meyers (Douglasville, Ga.) received a bye onto the team for her World Championship bronze medal performance last season and will pilot USA I. Jamie Greubel (Newtown, Pa.) won both selection races to earn her position as pilot of USA II, while Jazmine Fenlator (Wayne, N.J.) was named to USA III in her third season as a driver.

The six women’s bobsled push athletes named to the national team includes: World Indoor Champion and American record holder 100-meter hurdler Lolo Jones (Des Moines, Iowa), 4×100-meter relay Olympic gold medalist Tianna Madison (Elyria, Ohio), 2010 Olympian Emily Azevedo (Chico, Calif.), World Championship medalist Katie Eberling (Palos Hills, Ill.), current Lake Placid start record holder Aja Evans (Chicago, Ill.), and former University of California at Berkeley track athlete Cherrelle Garrett (Hayward, Calif.).

Reigning World Champion Steven Holcomb (Park City, Utah) will once again drive the men’s team USA I sled. National Guardsman Nick Cunningham (Monterey, Calif.) earned his position at the helm of USA II after sweeping team selection races, while Cory Butner (Yucaipa, Calif.) will pilot USA III.

The pool of men’s bobsled push athletes is one of the strongest yet. The selection features Holcomb’s world championship push crew of Steve Langton (Melrose, Mass.), Justin Olsen (San Antonio, Texas) and Curt Tomasevicz (Shelby, Neb.). The remaining nine athletes named to the team includes veterans Adam Clark (Owenton, Ky.), Johnny Quinn (McKinney, Texas), Chuck Berkeley (Walnut Creek, Calif.), Laszlo Vandracsek (Phoenix, Ariz.), Chris Fogt (Alpine, Utah), Dallas Robinson (Georgetown, Ky.), Jesse Beckom (Chicago, Ill.) and rookies Andreas Drbal (Belmont, Calif.) and Nic Taylor (Hayward, Calif.).

The skeleton national team will be named following the final selection race on Nov. 1. The World Cup tour kicks off in Lake Placid, N.Y. from Nov. 8-10.

Lolo Jones Off to Strong Start in U.S. Bobsled

Lolo Jones was one of the United States’ Olympic hopefuls in track and field. Lolo came up short and failed to medal but that didn’t stop America from wanting more of Miss Jones. Now the track star is testing thing in the bobsled event. Check out the story below.

lolo jones bobsled

LAKE PLACID, N.Y.–
Olympic hurdler Lolo Jones has posted an impressive start at the U.S. bobsled team selection races.

Seeking a push-athlete spot, Jones and pilot Jazmine Fenlator finished second in the opening night of selection races Saturday, their combined two-run time of 1 minute, 57.01 seconds just 0.05 seconds behind Jamie Greubel and Aja Evans (1:56.96). It was Jones’ competitive bobsled debut.

Greubel and Evans set a track push record of 5.43 seconds. Evans won the national push championships earlier this season.

Nick Cunningham and Johnny Quinn (1:54.51) won the first series of two-man races, followed by Cory Butner and Jesse Beckom (1:54.58) and Codie Bascue and Nic Taylor (1:55.04).

Veteran pilots Steven Holcomb and Elana Meyers have byes onto the national team.

Jones was among a group of U.S. track Olympians who were invited to the bobsled team’s push championships by coach Todd Hays last month, a decision Hays said was designed for them to “share their Olympics experiences with our athletes and to help boost team morale.”

It also was a bit of a recruiting ploy. Bobsled coaches have long tried to lure athletes from the track world, noting that their combination of speed and explosiveness is perfect for sliding.

And it might be working again. Jones and Fenlator were the leaders after the first run of the competition, and Jones suddenly is finding herself in a sled that might be in contention for a World Cup team spot.

“I’m just trying to take it all in,” Jones said. “It’s a new sport for me and there’s a ton of room for improvement. … I’m coming in here trying to learn everything quickly. I’m looking forward to fixing some things and hammering it out.”

Greubel and Evans rallied in their second run, continuing a breakthrough few days for Evans. Saturday’s competition was only her third time on the ice at Mount Van Hoevenberg.

Bree Schaaf and Emily Azevedo were third in the women’s race on Saturday night, finishing in 1:57.80.

In the men’s competition, even with Holcomb having a bye, the top three sleds were separated by only 0.53 seconds, which U.S. coach Brian Shimer said is a testament to the overall depth of the program right now.

“Every single day is race day with these guys,” Cunningham said.

Skeleton team races begin on Tuesday. Bobsled races continue Friday night, with the announcement of the national team to follow.

2012 IFBB Border States Pro Bikini Competitor List & Preview

While twelve IFBB Pro Bikini competitors will be competing in Prague this weekend, another twelve will be stepping on stage half way across the world in San Diego, California. The line-up is fairly competitive and one woman will leave with a 2013 Olympia qualification and four others picking up points towards an Olympia invite. This will be Jon Lindsay’s second to last show of the year and sure to be a great one. The NPC Border State Classic is a National Qualifying event and held in conjunction with the IFBB Pro Bikini competition.

The Hardbody 411:
The odds-on favorite has to be Amanda Latona to take home top honors. She’s a seasoned veteran to the stage and if she goes back to what works for her in the past she’ll leave the winner. At the Olympia, Amanda switched up her posing and her hair. It may seem like two silly points but when you’re splitting hairs on who wins and who doesn’t the details matter. Noy Alexander has a rock’n Hardbody and while one of the shorter competitors she should match up well next to the others in this line-up. Stacey Alexander always seems to fair a bit better in California than some of the other shows. Look for her to be in the hunt for the top spots. I like the potential of Jessica Arevalo. If she brings a confident, poised presentation to the stage she could catch some other ladies sleeping and move up into the mix. Ashley LeBlanc had a solid debut in Houston and will look to be in the top spots again here. The only thing that stands out with Ashley is her hip twisting pose can often look painful as she exaggerates it to the back and twists so much. Taylor Matheny has one of the best physiques in the division and if she can come in with a flattering suit and nail her presentation, she’ll be in the mix. She’s been  hit or miss with her suits and often times her posing doesn’t flatter her physique. She’s improved but will it be enough to land in the top spots? Janelle Saitone-McGuire will compete in her second pro show and will have to really rock the individual posing presentation to get in the top call-out. She doesn’t have the muscle some of the other women have but does have a nice, classy, polished presentation. Dianna Harbort has a nice physique however it could be a challenge to hang with this line-up. She turned pro at the 2012 Team Universe with a win in the Masters Over 45 division.

2012 IFBB Evl’s Prague Pro Bikini Competitor List & Preview

Twelve IFBB Pro Bikini competitors are slated to compete in the Czech Republic this weekend. This marks the first time the IFBB Pro Bikini women will have a chance to compete in Prague. The show is promoted by former bodybuilder Eva Sukupova with the help of American Media Inc. and promises to hold a first class event. This event also has some of the top prize money with $7,000 going to the winner of the Pro Bikini competition. There will also be open and 212 Men’s Bodybuilding along with the Amateur Bikini Olympia.

The Hardbody 411:
This is without a doubt the diverse competition we’ve seen in the pro league with representatives from a variety of countries. There are only three women from the United States in this event. Look for the blondes to dominate this line up and the top spots. The odds on favorite to win the show has to be Canada’s Justine Munro. She was victorious at the St. Louis Pro and was the runner-up at the Houston Pro earlier this month. Look for her to be the unanimous winner if she’s in the same condition as the Houston show. Michelle Brennan is coming off her first win and a favorite in Europe. Look for her to be in the hunt for the top spots.

My dark horse pick to shake things up is Anna Virmajoki from Finland. If she shows up like she did at the World Championships earlier this month she could be your winner. Super tiny waist and polished from head to toe. If Nikola Weiterova comes in a bit tighter in the booty she will be in the hunt for a top five spot. Noemi Olah continues to improve with each show and is coming off a runner-up spot last week at the British Grand Prix.

I like Figen Ozdemir’s look and will be put to the test in her pro debut. If she has a tight lower half she could be in the hunt. The two x-factors are Diana Graham and Talia Terese from the United States. Both women have been in the top spots but also on the outside looking in. Talia has yet to find her groove in the pro ranks since her win at the 2011 NPC USAs. Diana Graham has a bit more muscle than some of the other women in this line-up and it will come down to her conditioning in how she fairs. Gemmalyn Crosby has been up and down in the placings and is coming off a 4th place finish at the Ft. Lauderdale Cup. She’s been competing for a number of weeks and the long flight could cause some problems but if she’s able to over come those she could land in the top five again.

2012 IFBB Ft. Lauderdale Cup Pro Bikini Results & Report

Yeshaira Robles continued her winning ways in Florida over the weekend. She notched her second pro victory in the IFBB Pro Bikini division. The first came earlier in the summer at the Sarasota Pro. While the field at the Ft. Lauderdale Cup wasn’t the deepest it was competitive. Yeshaira was the clear winner in my eyes and she beat out Lacey Deluca by one point. Lacey was in the runner-up position to Yeshaira at the Sarasota Pro show as well.

The win qualifies Yeshaira for the 2013 Bikini Olympia. Yeshaira is one of the few women who can be cute one minute and with the flip of her hair can turn on the sultry look. She has one of the best bikini bodies and classiest presentations in the division. If any women are new to the division, look at how Yeshaira presents herself and emulate that.

Lacey DeLuca was just one point behind Yeshaira and while she has polished presentation and some beautiful hair, I wouldn’t have her in the runner-up spot. I’d like to see her lower body come in tighter to warrant a second place finish. If she can bring in a tigher set of wheels and backside then I can see it however I would have placed a number of women higher than her this time around.

Gigi Amurao had an impressive pro debut and could be a threat for the top spot in Iowa next month. She’ll need to keep her legs down in size. She has muscular legs and as long as they stay down in size she’ll hold her own. Gemmalyn Crosby bounced back from her disappointing Houston Pro finish. I’d love to see her ditch the orange bikini as it tends to blend in too much with her physique, in my opinion. Rounding out the top five was Bianca Berry. Bianca has a great physique and if she can pose a little better, specifically not making quirky facial expressions I think she’ll continue to do well. One to keep an eye on is Monique Gantt. If she can bring her booty down in size she’ll be a contender for the top five in future shows. While many competitors are trying to build a backside she’s trying to tone it down for what works on the stage. Adriana Hill also improved her physique and presentation. I would have her in the top five here and she narrowly missed it by one point on the judges scorecards.

2012 IFBB Ft. Lauderdale Cup Pro Figure Results & Report

Candice Lewis continued to make her presence known in the IFBB Figure ranks at the Ft. Lauderdale Cup. She’s positioned herself as one of the top competitors in the pro league and ends her year with two wins in a row. Candice won the Houston Pro Figure and then one week later followed it up with a win at the Ft. Lauderdale Cup. She’s managed to bring her legs down in balance with her upper body. Look for her to be on the 2013 Arnold Sports stage for her next show.

fl cup 2012 figure winners
Kamla Macko continues to be a threat for the top spot but had to settle for second once again. She has tremendous shape and if she can bring up her back just a bit look for her to be in the winner’s circle. Look for her to enter the Miami Pro in December and one of the top contenders there.

Camala Rodriquez surprised a number of people when she showed up in the Figure line-up. She was coming off an 8th place finish at the Arnold Fitness Europe and 8th at the 2012 Fitness Olympia. The feedback from the judges was that her routine was not where it needed to be. Camala always fared reasonably well in the physique round so figured why not jump into the Figure division where she’d likely do better. She proved that she did do better by finishing in the third place spot. The question remains though, where will Camala compete in the future? It looks like Figure is her new home and that may come as a bit of a disappointment to some. She was crowned the runner-up at the Fitness International and was also runner-up at the Sarasota Pro in 2012. Clearly she has potential in the division if she’s finishing in the top spots, most notably the Arnold. Perhaps the Figure move will be temporary and she’ll work on improving her routine. If you look at where some of the fitness veterans started with their placings it was at the bottom of the pack until their routines improved over time. I’d like to see her bring an improved routine and move back into Fitness after 2013 but that’s just my opinion.

Last year’s champ, Alicia Harris wasn’t quite as sharp as she needed to be in this line-up and she was relegated to fourth. Alicia typically does better in the later shows and I’d like to see her sit out the Arnold in 2013 and focus on doing her best in the second half of the season instead of competing on and off all year. Again, just my opinion.

Natalie Waples as a bit of a surprise here as she wasn’t as conditioned as the other ladies and when standing next to the top four you can see she needs to bring up her back and improve her glutes/hamstrings. I wouldn’t have placed her in my top five but then again, I’m not a judge.

Overall this was a competitive line-up and one that showcased a variety of physiques. The judge’s scores reflect how close it was between the competitors in the line-up and just a couple points between placings.

2012 IFBB Ft. Lauderdale Cup Pro Fitness Results & Report

It’s taken Oksana Grishina a few years to reach the winner’s circle in the pro ranks but she’s managed to do it three times this year. She notched a win at the St. Louis Pro at the beginning of the year and then did what many thought was impossible by defeating Adela Garcia at the Arnold Europe show. One week later Oksana continued her winning ways with a win at the 2012 IFBB Ft. Lauderdale Cup.

Oksana has always has amazing routines but the feedback from the judges was that it was “too slow” and there weren’t enough strength moves. I’d disagree that she didn’t have enough strength moves in her early routines, the fact that she performed them with ease is what many people often over looked. Early in her pro career she came in way too hard and overly conditioned for what the judges were looking for. She has refined her physique and it’s more in line with what the judges are looking for. She still needs to continue to work on creating the illusion of a small waist and would like to see her posing a bit different from the sides during the individual poses. Her routine is sic. It’s not stop action from start to finish. Look for her to have a new routine at the 2013 Arnold in March.

Bethany Cisternino has one of the best physiques in the pro league. She won the 2-piece round as expected and with an ever improving routine she’s always a top contender. If she can continue to improve her transitions, keep the tempo fast and add in a couple more strength moves she’ll be a threat for the win in every show she enters. Regaine Da Silva has more energy than 10 people combined when she performs her fitness routine. She gets the crowd into it and flies so high you swear she’ll hit her head on a stage light. The only thing I wasn’t a fan of was how long it took her to get her “Fat suit” off. If you’re going to have props and wear a costume you have to make sure it isn’t distracting and can be removed without any trouble. Darrian Tissenbaum showed she has a tremendous future in the IFBB Pro ranks. Coming off a win at the 2012 NPC JR Nationals, she immediately established herself as one to watch. She still needs to refine her physique just a bit but overall a strong showing. She lights up the stage and demonstrates some crazy flexibility and dance moves in her routine. She was definitely one of the stand-outs of the show. I’d like to see her get an Arnold invite as one of the newbies to the stage in March. Ryall Graber-Vasani has been consistent throughout the year and I like not only her physique but also her routine. I would have place her a bit higher in the routine round and in second in the physique round. Narrowly missing the top five was Canadian rookie Fiona Harris. Fiona had a tremendous year form her Arnold Amateur performance until now. She just needs to streamline her physique a bit form the back and bring a routine that’s a little less cutesy and more powerful to demonstrate the high level gymnastic skills.

Tanis Tzavaras made her return after having a baby 18 months ago and Stacy Wright also made her return after having a baby just 7 months ago. Props to both of these women for showing that moms can be a hardbody after a baby.

2012 IFBB British Grand Prix Results

The 2012 IFBB British Grand Prix Bikini wasn’t the largest lineup but it was competitive. Michelle Brannan edged out Noemi Olah by two points en route to her first pro win. The win qualifies Michelle for the 2013 Bikini Olympia. Tanja Canc finished in third while Nikola Weiterova settled for fourth. Nicole Scott finished fifth and Ronnie Blewitt rounded out the top six.

2012 Ft. Lauderdale Cup Preview

The third annual IFBB Ft. Lauderdale Cup takes place on Saturday, October 20, 2012. Some of the league’s top competitors will take the stage in hopes of qualifying for the Olympia and bragging rights as the Ft. Lauderdale Cup Champion. While the IFBB Pro competition will be one to watch, so will the NPC portion of this event. Some of today’s top pros got their start on this stage. Reigning Bikini Olympia, Nathalia Melo won this show in it’s inaugural year. This is the only all female weekend in the NPC and IFBB. There are slated to be over 150 NPC competitors sharing the stage with nearly 50 pros.

Ft. Lauderdale Cup Hardbody

The Hardbody 411:

FITNESS:
This is one stacked line-up and just short of the Olympia and Arnold Sports competition it might be the most competitive of the year. Oksana Grishina has established herself as the one to beat after a runner-up position at the 2012 Olympia and a win at the Arnold Europe last week. She always has a great routine and it will be the physique round that could prove to be her biggest challenge. Bethany Cisternino should take top honors in the physique round and if she can showcase her strength moves in the routine round look for her to be in the top spots. Ryall Graber-Vasani has a great physique and solid routine. The judges haven’t rewarded her as high as I think she should be placing but we’ll see how she fairs here.  Fiona Harris is another competitor that has kind of flown under the judge’s radar but one to watch with loads of potential. Darrian Tissenbaum will be making her pro debut and the pirate routine is always full of non-stop action. Stacy Wright is making a routine after the birth of her first child.  Regiana Da Silva will leave you a bit dizzy just watching her routine as she flies all over the place and has some sick flexibility and strength.

FIGURE:
Candice Lewis is coming off a win at the Houston Pro and has established herself as one of the break out stars this year. She was at her best in Houston and the only question is how will her body hold up? Look for her to be in the top spots and the one to beat. Kamla Macko could give her a run for her money. She put herself on the map with her runner-up placing at the Sarasota Pro, finishing second to the would be Figure Olympia Champ, Erin Stern. Alicia Harris won this show last year and if her conditioning is on point she’ll be in the mix. Smiley Harris should be in the hunt if she’s in shape. Agnese Russo is a bitter of a sleeper pick in this line-up. She made the switch from bikini to Figure and more than held her own last week in Houston. The biggest  factor in this show will be Camala Rodriquez. Camala fared well in the physique round when competing in the Fitness division however her routines were not on the same level as her physique. She wisely made the move to Figure for this show and could be a threat for the title. It will be interesting to see how she compares to the others. Natalie Waples will look to get back in the hunt for a top spot and her placings have been up and down over the course of the year. Patty Zariello will look to move up into the top five after her debut last week where she was just on the outside. Krista Dunn will look to make her presence known in her pro debut. Krista’s biggest challenge will be not looking too conditioned or overly muscular. Dani Ronquilo will also be making her debut after a string of show in the amateur ranks this year. The other x-factor is Candice John. The Trinidad beauty has the potential to be top five and a threat for the top spot.

BIKINI:
The line-up may not be the biggest of the year but it could be one of the most interesting to watch. There’s no “big name” in the show so to speak and by that I mean top five Olympia finisher. The favorites have to be Lacey DeLuca and Yeshaira Robles. The two went head to head in Sarasota and Yeshaira came out on top. Personally, I love Yeshaira’s look and she’s one of the few competitors who has an athletic, toned physique and presents with class. She’s able to be cute and with a flip of the hair she can strike a sexy look. Lacey brings a bit softer physique in the lower body and her biggest challenge will be her lower body compared to her upper. Adriana Hill is another stunning competitor and her biggest challenge is presenting with confidence and not a nervous look. Gigi Amurao is making her debut and has great stage presence, her biggest challenge will be her legs not looking too muscular on stage. Monique Gantt made her debut in Houston last week and without a doubt has one of thee best booties in the IFBB. That being said, it’s her biggest hinderance as well. She’ll be loved for her asset in photoshoots and modeling however the judges will likely tell her it needs to come down in size. If she can pose her backside without it looking too large and in charge she could be in the top five here. Gemmalyna Crosby is up and down in her placings and her biggest downfall, in my opinion, is her orange suit. Orange doesn’t pop on stage and tends to blend in too much with her physique.

The 2012 IFBB Houston Pro competitor lists are out and this has shaped up to be an incredible show. Every division is well represented, with the exception of the Women’s Physique Division. 2012 Fitness Olympia Review & Results

Adela Garcia has successfully etched herself into history as the most decorated IFBB fitness champion of all-time. She hasn’t been defeated since 2007 and shows no signs of slowing down. Adela beat out a very competitive line-up en route to her seventh Fitness Olympia title in Las Vegas, Nevada. Sixteen women competed in 2012 Fitness Olympia and fans were treated to an amazing display of strength, endurance and flexibility. See photos from the event here.

adela garcia champion olympia

The Hardbody 411:
1. Adela Garcia – Adela was the odds-on favorite heading into the show and with good reason. You have to go all the way back to the 2007 Houston Pro to find a show she hasn’t won. She finished 3rd at that contest but hasn’t lost since. She was sidelined in 2008 by a knee injury but hasn’t let that stop her. Adela’s physique was on point and looked as sharp as ever at this year’s show. She struggled a bit in parts of her routine however her strength moves and endurance throughout were enough in the judges’ eyes to keep her retain her title. Will she be back for her 8th title next year? If I were a gambling man, I’d bet she will.

2. Oksana Grishina – Oksana has become a bit of a fan favorite over the years. She still struggles to find balance with her physique and posing but makes up for it in the routine round. Oksana was in 8th place heading into the final/routine round. She performed beautifully and won the routine portion, which counts for 2/3 of the final score. The performance launched her into the runner-up position.

3. Tina Durkin – Tina brought her best physique and routine to the stage and it paid off. She was at her best in the physique round (where she was second) and she really stepped up her game in the routine round. She looked like she was having fun on stage and you could tell she was confident with what she presented.

4. Myriam Capes – Myriam brought her best physique to date and showed that persistence and patience pays off. She has steadily refined her physique and it’s helped her become a contender in every show she enters. She brought a routine that showcased incredible strength however lacked the high energy, face paced entertainment the judges are drawn to. She did pick up the pace in the second half of the routine and if it was choreographed to be that fast-paced throughout she would have been higher.

5. Tanji Johnson – Tanji has become a bit of wild card in fitness. We never know which Tanji will show up. When she’s in condition and brings high energy to the routine round she’s a contender for the title. When she doesn’t she fades away from the spotlight. She was in good condition for the physique round, not great but good and held her own. She didn’t wow the crowd like she has in previous routines and it was a safe performance. Fans and judges have come to know Tanji to combine strength and dance along with entertainment. It was entertaining but lacked the strength moves judges are looking for.

6. Bethany Cisternino – Bethany has one of the best physiques in the fitness division, she can and has held her own on a figure stage. She brought a great look once again with her physique but didn’t quite match it in the routine rounds. She has the skill set and the ability to nail a top routine. She was in the middle of the pack with the routine round and she slipped to sixth. Bethany has the potential to be in the top three with a little routine refinement.

Others of note:
Ryall Graber-Vasani was the one competitor I thought should have been in the top 6. She brought a nicely conditioned and balanced physique to the 2-piece round. Despite the scores, I thought she had one of the better routines of the night. She had high energy, good strength moves and kept the pace throughout.

Jodi Boam didn’t seem like her usual smiley, upbeat self throughout the weekend. I had a chance to speak with her after the finals and she shared she wasn’t close to her best. She was happy to even make it to the show after suffering a knee injury. Hopefully the injury doesn’t require surgery and we see her back on her game.

Arnold Classic Europe Line-up & Preview

After hosting the Arnold Sports Festival in Columbus, Ohio for years, Jim Lormier and Arnold Schwarzenegger decided to expand the successful event. The second-annual Arnold Classic Europe will be held October 12-14, in Madrid, Spain. Many of the top IFBB Fitness & Figure Pros will compete this weekend. Can Erin Stern make it five wins in a row in the Division? Will Oksana Grishina notch another win to her professional resume or will Adela Garcia continue her winning streak? See who is in the show and ones to watch.

arnold europe

Fitness Preview:
Adela Garcia hasn’t lost a Fitness competition since the 2007 Houston Pro. Will she continue her winning ways this weekend in Spain? Don’t bet against her streak ending. Adela always comes in on point in the physique rounds. Adela wins the judges over with her strength moves in the routine rounds. The judging in Europe tends to differ slightly from the States in that a more muscular physique tends to prevail. This is a generalization but seems to hold true. This line-up is pretty close to what fans saw at the Olympia and if things follow suit look for Tina Durkin, Oksana Grishina and Tanji Johnson to be in the top spots. Regaine Da Silva will be one to watch as she is always a favorite in Europe. Jodi Boam is coming off a bummer Olympia, where she was injured. She’s modified her routine and had a chance to heal so will bring the spunky, upbeat energy we’ve grown to love. I like what Ryall brought to the Olympia stage and she has the physique and routine to land in the top five. Fiona Harris also has shown tremendous potential in a relatively short pro career.

Erin Stern has been on a roll this year. She was second at the Figure International in March and since that show she hasn’t lost. She’s put together wins in Australia, Sarasota, Olympia, Sheru and will look to make it five in a row this weekend in Spain. Will she do it? Ya, she should and likely will unless something goes terribly wrong between now and Saturday.  Look for Candice Keene to be standing next to her in the comparison and in the hunt for the top spot. Ava Cowan will look to bounce back from her Olympia showing. Larissa Reis should be in the top five as well. It will be interesting to see which competitor not residing in the USA will be in the top five. The judges will see a variety of physiques with some very muscular and others a bit on the softer side.

2012 Ms Olympia Bodybuilding Results & Review

Thirteen women took the stage and as expected, Iris Kyle left Vegas with her eighth Ms. Olympia title. It was clear from the moment she took the stage that she’d leave the winner. Genetically, Iris is on another level. Debi Laszweski showed her in her best condition and finished in the runner-up position. Yaxeni Oriquen-Garcia was in good condition however seemed to come in a bit lighter than previous shows. She narrowly edged out rising star Alina Popa by one point. Many felt Alina should have been in the mix and compared closer to Debi. Brigita Brezovac rounded out the top five and was just one point behind Alina.

Hardbody Training: Nike Training Club – Leg Lift

Add this to your Hardbody Training. While doing a plank, raise your foot a few inches off the ground. Alternate leg lifts and see if you can do this for a minute. Keep a straight line by keeping your hips parallel to the floor and bracing your core. This is a great exercise for your abs and glutes.

Hardbody Music: Nike Get Fit’s Playlist

Our Hardbody friend, personal trainer Marie Purvis aka “Nike Get Fit” is running the Chicago Marathon today. Many people have asked her what’s on her playlist and she’s been kind enough to share it with us. Marie finds a variety of music in her travels as a Nike Master Trainer and if you’ve ever taken one of her classes you know she plays great tunes (along with whoop’n your butt). This play list is about 1 hour long and it has a variety all along the way.
