News Release
APEX-BRASIL and ABRESE JOIN FORCES TO LEVERAGE THE ECONOMY OF THE SPORTS SECTOR
Apex-Brasil (Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency) and ABRESE (Brazilian Association of Sport Goods and Services) created an Export Project, called “Brazilian Sports”, that had an initial investment of about R$ 500,000. The investments may increase after October of this year.

The project will have it’s first activity at the Expo “Arnold Classic Brasil 2013” that will be held on April 26th to 28th at the Sul América Convention Center, Rio de Janeiro.
The objective of the Project is to increase the exports of the Brazilian sports sector and promote in the international market the Brazilian products and services related to sports activities.

According to ABRESE the sports sector currently generates nearly R$65 billion a year, equivalent to 1.6% of Brazilian GDP. In the last six years the segment has grown much more than the national economy. While the country’s GDP has maintained an average of annual growth between 2007 and 2011 of 4.2%, the sports market reached a 7.1% growth.

Compared to the same period mentioned above, it was observed that the participation of the sport sector on the GDP of some countries was, for example, in England of 1.8%, U.S. 2.1%, Australia 2.3% and New Zealand 2, 8%. The expectation for 2016 is that the national GDP can grow 1.9%, according to ABRESE.

The Brazilian Sports Project invited international journalists, to come to the event, so they can get to know the Brazilian companies and their products. The confirmed guests belong to major industry publications. They are: Hardbody News, NPC News, Muscle & Fitness, Flex Magazine, Muscular Development, Muscle Mag International.

The next step will bring around 10 buyers from different countries to the Rio Sports Show, that will happen from June 27th to 29th, this year..
