“One of the things I love about the Body Issue so much is that it celebrates the bodies that allow us to be successful in our sport,” said Coughlin, who has won 12 Olympic swimming medals. “As a sports fan, I love seeing the differences in body types.”

ESPN The Magazine – 2012 Body Issue Preview

ESPN The Magazine has provided a sneak peek at some of the feature Hardbody men and women in its upcoming “BODY” issue. One of our favorite Hardbody women, MMA Champion Ronda Rousey is feature in the issue and looks great. The issue is always done in good taste and features classy photos of incredible athletes.

Check out the online preview on ESPN.com that features 35 images of all the incredible athletes. U.S. Women’s national soccer team forward, Abby Wambach tells ESPN, “Female athletes are getting very, very think but I’m a bigger woman — I have bigger muscles, and that’s OK. For me more muscle gives me more power and speed, and I need that.”

MMA’s Ronda Rousey in ESPN Magazine’s BODY ISSUE

ESPN The Magazine will publish their fourth annual BODY ISSUE and we’re stoked that women’s mixed martial arts (MMA) will be represented by Ronda Rousey. It’s cool to see this come to fruition as our resident man on the hardbody scene, Isaac Hinds asked Ronda earlier this year if she would pose for the issue. She was a little taken back by the question of posing nude but said, “it would have to be tactful.” She went on to say if it was done by a reputable photographer and done in a classy way, then she’d be on board. Well, it sounds like things worked out as Ronda will be one of 27 athletes baring all of the issue that hits stands on July 13th.

Ronda has been taking the MMA world by storm and showcased a dominant performance in Columbus, Ohio earlier this year. Many felt (not us) Ronda was all talk but she quickly shut those critics up when she nearly snapped Miesha Tate’s arm in two and remained undefeated in her MMA career. She will defend her Strikeforce Bantamweight title against Sarah Kaufman on August 18, 2012.

Earlier today, Ronda wrote shared the ESPN Magazine news via twitter, “Hey so …. Espn body issue….. If anyone wants to see me “artistically nude” I suggest you grab a copy when it’s revealed on July 13th.”

Props to ESPN for selecting Ronda as the sole MMA representative (men and women). Congrats Ronda! We’re stoked to see your continued success in and out of the cage.

This issue has been getting quite a bit of publicity. I occasionally look at this magazine but will check out this issue. It’s reminds of the Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue in that it gets a lot of coverage based on the photography and subjects shown. Maybe next year we can see a pro fitness, figure or bikini competitor in it.

PHOTOGRAPHER OF THE YEAR
Big congratulations go out to Isaac Hinds of Lift Studios for being named the 2007 Photographer of the Year in the annual Bodybuilding.com awards. Isaac covers virtually every major NPC and IFBB contest plus a good number of not-so-major ones along with doing more photo shoots with both top and up-and-coming athletes than I even want to think about. He has shot several friends of mine, like IFBB pros Will “World” Harris and Chris Faildo, both of whom raved about how easy is to shoot with and the quality of the photos he produces. His work appears in many worldwide publications and on Web sites such as Bodybuilding.com, Hardbody.com and his personal site, LiftStudios.com.

HARDBODY POLL: Baddest Bitch in the Gym – Offensive?

baddest bitch

When Dana Linn Bailey’s cover of Muscular Development hit the web most people were impressed that the magazine took a chance on putting a female on the cover. Not just a female but one with muscle and by herself. Most people have no issue with that, although I’m sure there’s someone complaining about some dude not getting a cover and how dare they put a woman on the cover.

What’s ruffling a few feathers (not DLB’s mind you) is how the magazine refer to her as. The cover calls her the “Baddest Bitch in the gym” and the opening spread inside does the same. Is it offensive? Most seem to feel that if Dana isn’t offended by it why should you? Others think referring to a woman as a bitch is offensive and should never be done much less put on a magazine cover. Join the conversation on twitter and Facebook.

Ronda Rousey in Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue

Ronda Rousey Swim Suit
The Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue has been published since 1964. Some of the most popular models have graced the SI Swim cover over the years from Cheryl Tiegs, Elle Macpherson and Christie Brinkley to Heidi Klum and Tyra Banks. Elle Machperson has the most covers to her credit with five.

Every year there’s some sort of buzz around the models and not only who made the cover but also who was left out. Fans of athletic females tend to point to fitness models and wonder why none of them are featured. The rationale you’ll find it all over the place. If you’re looking for athletic women featured in a magazine, you’re better off picking up ESPN The Magazine’s Body Issue. While it’s more the exception than the norm, there have been female athletes featured in the magazine over the years. The majority of the athletes featured have been tennis players with Steffi Graf, Serena and Venus Williams, Maria Sharapova and Anna Kournikova all being featured in the magazine. In the 2010 issue, Winter Olympians Hannah Teter, Lindsey Vonn, Ana Ivanovic, Lacy Schnoor and Clair Bidez were featured.

This year two female athletes are featured in the magazine. Tennis star Caroline Wozniacki and UFC champion Ronda Rousey. While it’s not surprising to see a tennis athlete featured it is highly unusual to see a mixed martial artist in the swimsuit issue. Rousey has become one of the most popular fighters in the UFC. She’s without question the most popular in the women’s division but she’s arguably becoming the most recognized in the entire organization. She’s has roles in the Expendables and has an upcoming part in Entourage the movie. Rousey’s stock continues to rise as she dominates inside the octagon and will looks to do so again later this month (Feb. 28th) when she fights Kat Zingano.

ronda Rousey

Rousey shared a few of the images on her Facebook page and shared, “I purposely tried to get a little bit heavier for the SI issue so I was a little bit curvier and not in top fight shape look but the look at which I feel I’m the most attractive. It’s very natural for a person’s body to go through seasons.”

While Rousey lacks no confidence in her fight game she admitted, “I’m not the best model in the world. I try my best.” She goes on to share in a behind the scenes video, “Strong and healthy is the new sexy.”

Ronda reminded everyone that those photos were taken months ago, as common with every magazine, and she currently has other matters at hand. If you’re thinking of talking negatively about her photos or her decision to appear in the magazine, watch the clip below before you do…

FDA Issues Warning: V26 Slimming Coffee Contains Controlled Substance

The FDA has advised consumers not to purchase or use V26 Slimming Coffee. Their lab anaylsis found the product contains the controlled substance, sibutramine. The FDA issues the release show below and notice their “note”. The note mentioned “a growing trend of dietary supplements or conventional food with hidden drugs and chemicals.” A bit of foreshadowing on what’s the come for the supplement industry and the FDA? Only time will tell but for the FDA to specifically note it’s a “growing trend” is a bit unsettling.

V26 Slimming Coffee Contains Hidden Drug Ingredient
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is advising consumers not to purchase or use V26 Slimming Coffee, a product promoted and sold for weight loss on various websites and possibly in some retail stores.

FDA laboratory analysis confirmed that V26 Slimming Coffee contains sibutramine. Sibutramine is a controlled substance that was removed from the market in October 2010 for safety reasons. The product poses a threat to consumers because sibutramine is known to substantially increase blood pressure and/or pulse rate in some patients and may present a significant risk for patients with a history of coronary artery disease, congestive heart failure, arrhythmias, or stroke. These products may also interact, in life-threatening ways, with other medications a consumer may be taking.

Health care professionals and patients are encouraged to report adverse events or side effects related to the use of these products to the FDA’s MedWatch Safety Information and Adverse Event Reporting Program:

Complete and submit the report online: MedWatch Online Voluntary Reporting Form

Download form or call 1-800-332-1088 to request a reporting form, then complete and return to the address on the pre-addressed form, or submit by fax to 1-800-FDA-0178

Note: This notification is to inform the public of a growing trend of dietary supplements or conventional foods with hidden drugs and chemicals. These products are typically promoted for sexual enhancement, weight loss, and body building and are often represented as being “all natural.” FDA is unable to test and identify all products marketed as dietary supplements that have potentially harmful hidden ingredients. Consumers should exercise caution before purchasing any product in the above categories.

Hardbody Road to The Arnold – Fit and Healthy with Jess

Top IFBB Bikini Pro, Jessica Mone updates us on her prep for the 2014 Arnold. Jessica will be competing at the Bikini International and has been kind enough to share her journey with Hardbody. Jess shares, “to the spectators you look like the epitome of health, but are you really?” Read on…

jessica mone blog

Fit and Healthy…?
It’s the day of the show, the moment you have been prepping for for weeks! All of the blood sweat and tears you have poured over the stepmill and 5 billion meals of fish sweet potatoes and asparagus have SO been worth it, right?!

You look amazing on stage. To the spectators you look like the epitome of health, but are you really?

We all know what it takes to get in show shape and many of us would say that we feel the furthest thing from healthy on those days leading up to the show.

We have all heard about some of the damaging things people are doing to get ready for these shows, not knowing how bad they are really hurting their bodies.

That is why last year going into the Arnold I made the goal of getting into the best shape (mentally physically and emotionally) of my life. This was one of the best decisions I could have ever made!

I wanted to share with y’all what has continued to make my show prep, and more important, my every day life so much healthier!

My husband and I make a daily “green drink” that is truly an anti inflammatory, alkalizing,  immune system boosting, toxic removing, disease fighting, energy cranking, skin glowing, internal deodorant, bowel cleaning DREAM!!! 🙂 lol.

I could go through and list what each ingredient specifically does, but this blog would be never ending. I figured that little description would peak your interest and you would do your own research, like I did, and learn some amazing holistic ways to help better your health!

Sure, you can add some fruits in with this to try and make it taste better, but honestly we just chug it down bc the benefits far out way the need for it to taste good for me :).

See our “GREEN DRINK” ingredients / recipe here.

I can promise you, you won’t regret adding this into your health and fitness routine. Especially for us competitors that can tend to feel a little run down as the show gets closer.

I notice a definite increase in energy, less sickness, my skin has never looked better and I always suffered from issues with IBS (TMI sorry!) and I can’t believe how that has cleared up!. The amazing part is reading about the long term health and disease (etc) fighting benefits!!! They are endless!

We are 5 weeks away from the Arnold! I hope to bring a great look to the stage, but  I KNOW for sure I will be bringing a HEALTHY from the inside out look:) and to me that is truly WINNING!

Thanks for reading! God bless!

Please write to me in the comments or tweet me at @JessFit with some suggestions on topics you would like for me to write about in future blogs.

VIDEO: The World of Female Bodybuilding on KATIE

Katie Couric sits down with amateur bodybuilding Brandi Akers on a recent episode of the talk show that bares her name. Joining Brandi on the couch with Katie is HBO REAL SPORTS host, Bryant Gumbel. They talk about the world of female bodybuilding on and off stage. Katie puts Brandi on the spot with a number of issues and Brandi handles herself well.

katie female bodybuilding

Gumbel talks about women being “wolfly underpaid” in the world of female bodybuilding despite the sacrifices they make. Katie then inquires about the world of muscle fetish and asks, “they’re called schmoes?” Katie says, “it’s freaky” when speaking about the world of bodybuilding she never knew existed. She proceeds to be a bit of a “schmo” herself when she asks Brandi to flex and touches her biceps. Katie proceeds hit a bicep pose after Gumbel mentions her sizable guns.

katie couric flexing

Even though the topics and questions may make some cringe, Brandi handles herself in a very professional manner. She looks and sounds feminine in the interview and does one of the best jobs I’ve seen in an interview. While female bodybuilding may not be for everyone, there is a fan base and Brandi has managed to build a sizable following in it. She’s competed a number of times as an amateur and despite not being a pro bodybuilder has found a way to capitalize on it. You don’t have to agree with her but she’s right when she says she is an entrepreneur.

What Hardbody Female Would Make a Good Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Cover Model?

It’s that time of year again. The annual Sports Illustrated Swimsuit issue is out and once again it features Kate Upton. While we’re not hating on Kate, we’re left wondering why her again and why such a lackluster cover. The Sports Illustrated Swimsuit issue has turned into a brand of its own. It’s one of the few issues of any magazine that has millions of people talking.

SI-COVER

Last year we posted a poll and over 2,400 of you voted. Brittany Tacy, Dianna Dahlgren & Amanda Laton lead the way. So we figured let’s do it again and see who might be the favorite this year or will we yield the same results? There are hundreds of hardbody women who we feel would make a better cover model and again it’s no knock on Kate. She’s a beautiful woman and all the props to her for the continued success.

kate-upton-siPhoto via Sports Illustrated. Kate Upton cover model.

Soft Tissue Therapy & Active Stretching a Staple for Fitness Pro Bethany Cisternino

One of the leading ladies in the IFBB Pro Fitness divisions, Bethany Cisternino checks in with and update on how she trains and what she implements to avoid pain. She says, “there is no secret or magic diet that works for everyone” and no we couldn’t agree more. Bethany is under 5 weeks out from the Fitness International in Columbus, Ohio.

Bethany Cisternino – 2013 Fitness International Contender
What’s up hardbodies?! I hope you had a productive week. I am within 5 weeks of Fitness International and it’s time to step it up a notch. Weight training and routine training definitely get more intense and there is no room for self – doubt or excuses.

There is no secret or magic diet that works for everyone. After years of competing and manipulating my diet and training regimen I believe I have a good grip on what works and does not work for me. What works for me might not work for anyone else. I do a 12 week prep slowly incorporating cardio, then I add in routine training 6 weeks out, and I weight train hard and heavy all the way through my diet up until the week of my show.

After 18 years of gymnastics, and in my 7th year of fitness, my body cannot handle too much routine training. As I get older my muscles get sore faster, my joints ache more, so I cannot train like I used to. At most I practice my routine 3-4 times a week, most of my conditioning comes from weight training and traditional cardio. While I have learned to train “smarter”, I have also learned there are people that specialize in muscle and joint management who can also help me. I want to be able to walk when I’m 50!

Soft tissue therapy and active stretching have become a staple in my training. Soft tissue therapy is considered a neuromuscular therapy. Soft tissue therapy (STM) techniques are designed to influence musculature, connective tissues, and the nervous system. STM has many benefits (relaxation is one) but for athletes who are constantly stressing their tissues, muscles, and metabolism, STM could be a great path for your body. STM can help muscle function and balance by releasing tension allowing the muscles to relax and regain their strength so muscle pairs work in harmony. STM can also increase blood flow to an area which increases the rate of supply of nutrients and removal of waste and possibly the substances that cause pain.

If you have any questions about soft tissue manipulation, tweet or direct message @Meridian_sports or @Shulim25. David at Meridian Sports has been a huge part of my training and every day health!

Have a “hardbody” week! Message me on twitter @Bfitness80 and help me decide what body part to talk about next week!

ESPN The Magazine launches it’s fourth annual “BODY issue this week and today we received a look at the six different covers. The annual issue will feature 27 athletes from a variety of sports. The six athletes gracing the cover are Candace Parker, Ronda Rousey, Daniela Hantuchova, Jose Bautista, Tyson Chandler and Rob Gronkowski.

ESPN’s Front Row spoke with The Mag’s Deputy Editor, Neely Lohmann how the covers were chosen.

“We had an overwhelming number of truly amazing photographs to choose from this year, which is why there are six covers. We wanted to have as many as we could get because whittling the photographs down to the best of the best isn’t easy. When making the final call, we paid attention to diversity — we like to have a good mix of men and women, a good mix of different body types represented, different sports, etc.”

Read the complete interview with Neely on ESPN.com and you can see the behind-the-scenes video with some of the athletes at www.espn.com/bodyissue.

Behind The Hardbody: Libby DiBiase – Mom, Crossfit Athlete & More

Libby Dibaise is a HARDBODY. She’s built rock solid physique with years of gymnastics, soccer, track and crossfit. Libby not only looks the part of a hardbody but she also lives it. We caught up with the Omaha native to learn more about her background, how she became sponsored by Reebok and Gaspari Nutrition and insight into the world of crossfit. Libby also shares some advice for moms and whether or not Omaha Steaks live up to the hype.

Name:
Libby DiBiase

Occupation:
Nutrition Consultant, Team Gaspari Athlete, Reebok Crossfit Athlete

Born in:
Omaha, NE

Currently live in:
Omaha, NE

What’s the best thing about living in Omaha?
We have all four season’s here, it’s not too small of city, but not to big either. I love it.

What’s the one thing you wish you could change about the Big O?
Winter. It get’s way to cold here for my liking.

Is the steak really good or a myth?
Oh yeah, no myth, Omaha Steaks is where it’s at.

What’s the best cut to order?
Filet.

What sports did you play growing up?
I started out in gymnastics and soccer and slowly transitioned into track and field leading up into high school.

Favorite sport to watch?
Gymnastics

What was your favorite event in track?
4x100m Being part of team is so much fun no matter what sport, I always felt like I ran a lot faster than individuals races since I had other people depending on me. Also, the 100m and 300 hurdles. Nothing over 400m, that’s way too long.

Are you a girly girl or more of a tomboy?
A girly girl. Even though I throw around heavy weight and get sweaty and nasty when I workout, I still like to get my hair done and put my makeup on. A girl’s got to look good right?

Who am I to argue with that?

When did you first start lifting weights?
My sophomore year of high school.

What would you tell other women who think weights will turn them into looking like dudes?
Genetics largely determines how we look, so it would sure take a lot to make any women look like a man without genetics and/or drugs. Lifting weights makes you strong and being strong keeps you young.

What’s the silliest comment a dude has said to you about being buff?
Did you get arrested today?
No, why? For having those guns.
Seriously, this was said to me.

Did that line work?
No, absolutely not, that’s no way to pick up a girl.

How long have you been crossfitting?
Around 6 years

When someone asks what crossfit is how would you describe it to them?
It’s difficult to explain without experiencing it, but in short, it’s weightlifting mixed with track and field and gymnastics. We also use rowing, plyometrics, and strongman implements as big part of our training. It’s different everyday, it’s intense, and most importantly it actually works.

Were you skeptical at first or loved it from day one?
No, I loved it. I get bored so quick so that’s why I kept coming back, since it is different everyday, I was hooked.

What do you say to the people who claim crossfit promotes bad form and you are more prone to injuries?
I think that people watch videos on the internet of people doing crossfit workouts, and they think that’s crossfit. Crossfit does not promote bad form, but crossfit does promote results, with that being said, when people push for maximum intensity in sport and strength and conditioning technique is not going to be perfect. The best crossfit athletes and the best coaches view technique as the most critical piece to intensity and intensity is the most critical piece to results. New athletes will always move like new athletes and new coaches will always coach like new coaches so there will always be some bad technique out there. But doing functional movements with bad technique is still safer than not doing them at all. Obviously we would like to have functional movements with good technique. All sports have injuries. Is football dangerous? Is soccer? Gymnastics? Hockey?…..etc.

Is the head band part of your signature workout attire?
Lol haha Yeah, Since I started I’ve always worn a bandana or headband. Usually I just cut the sleeve off a t-shirt and wrap it around my head, total jerry rig.

Will you be coming out with your own line of headbands or just keep cutting off sleeves whenever you need a new one?
That’s a good idea, but in the meantime, yes, I will keep cutting off sleeves until I find something else I like better!

Do you follow the paleo diet and live and breathe the crossfit culture?
For the most part I eat paleo, but I add in oatmeal and protein powder. I’m not super strict. I found the best way to eat healthy is to just have those foods in your house. If you don’t have any sugar, starches or processed foods, you won’t eat them. It’s the best thing I’ve discovered.

Do you eat differently before a competition then your usual day – if so what changes?
Nope I eat the same. I might eat a little more than usual since we might have multiple workouts in a day.

Any experience on what to avoid on game day?
I have learned to not over analyze any workout. Grandit there is strategy involved in some of the workouts, but if I think about them too much it ends up hurting me rather than helping me.

Favorite crossfit workout?
Anything with heavy thrusters and muscle up’s

Least favorite?
Rowing and farmer’s carries.

Will we see you in the individual or team games this year?
Well, our regional was just a fre weeks ago. They took top 60 from sectionals. I went as an Individual this year and I wound up getting 9th overall. They take top 3 to the world games. I wasn’t disappointed in my performances since physically I knew I did the best I could. Obviously there were little things I could of done better in some of the workouts, but it does sting not making it, it just wasn’t my year. It gives me a whole year to get stronger and work on little things. Our team, Crossfit Omaha got 4 th as a team in regionals. They take top 3 also for the world games. They just missed the podium. This year will be the first year I haven’t’ gone to the games since 2008, either as an individual or on the team. But, I think this experience for all of us at regionals will mentally make us stronger and hungrier for next year.

Do you think the competition is getting tougher as more people discover crossfit?
Yes, every year someone comes out of the woodwork, that’s going to happen. Since Crossfit linked up with Reebok, more and more people know what it is,and know you can compete. The purse for the games is also getting larger. So, I think we might see professional athletes from other sports dabble in crossfit too.

Gym you train at?
Crossfit Omaha

Why that gym over others?
This was the first Crossfit gym affiliated in Nebraska. It started out in the strength and conditioning gym at the University where I ran track. They accumulated so many clients that Ricky Frausto and Joe Westerlin, the owners, decided to open there own crossfit box. So I have stuck with them ever since. The coaching there is phenomenal. To me, that is what set’s apart this gym to others. It’s the little things they help us with (technique, efficiency, and transitions) We have had a handful of individual and teams qualify for the games also.

If I’m joining a crossfit gym for the first time – what should I look for?
Crossfit is not a franchise that is why every gym is unique. You have to find the best fit for you, to make sure it’s a welcoming environment and that technique is always taught prior to workouts.

If someone is new to crossfit how often would recommend they do it?
I would tell them to not be intimidated or scared to start. Everything is universally scalable, so everyone can do it. If they are new and starting out, I would still recommend 3 days on one day off.

Which of your athletic background has helped you the most in Crossfit?
I would say probably gymnastics. There is a lot of different gymnastics movements involved in crossfit and you use a lot of upper body strength in a lot of the workouts.

Areas you need to improve?
I always have areas I need to improve on. Mostly Olympic lifts, endurance, and grip strength. My hands are the size of a five year old boy, so I’m constantly working on ways I can improve grip for heavy lifts.

Ha. So  man hands is an advantage. Gotcha.

How many days a week do you crossfit?
3 days on, one day off.

Do you lift weights other than your crossfit workouts?
No not usually. If I don’t do a crossfit workout I’ll usually just do Olympic Lifting. But, I’m up for most anything, everyone started out lifting isolation or doing the normal one body part at a time workout. So anything to keep me active and is fun. I’m down for.

You competed in Figure before, ya?
Ya, once.

Ever think about doing another one?
No, I Iike food. Just not for me. But I am very impressed with anyone who does that, it takes a lot of hard work and dedication.

What female athletes do you admire – past or present?
I have 2 right now. Annie Sakamoto. She is basically the original OG of crossfit. I watched her in videos back in 2007 and thought; I wish I could be as good as her. She never competed until last year, she made it to the games, and she made it this year also. She has 2 kids, and most of all she always has a smile on her face when she’s competing. She has fun, and that’s what it’s all about. The second one would be Ronda Rousey she is a fellow Team Gaspari Athlete, and a MMA Strikeforce champ. Basically she can beat up the guys, and you wouldn’t want to mess with her, she’ll kick you’re a**.

Sponsors:
Reebok Crossfit, Gaspari Nutrition & Atlas Power Wraps

What advise would you give to women who are seeking sponsorships or what has helped you not only get but keep your endorsements?
Well, this is what I love to do, and If you do what you love, people will catch on and start noticing. Put yourself out there, you have nothing to lose.

How did you connect with Reebok?
Reebok actually just contacted me at work one day. They just called me up and said they were interested in meeting with me, and told me all about what they were doing with crossfit, and how it was going to move forward.

Gaspari found you at an event, right?
Ha, yeah. It was a very random way I met everyone from the company. I was competing in a team crossfit competiton at the UFC expo in Houston. The phone I had then always died. I really needed and outlet so the closest booth was Gaspari Nutrition. So I walked over and asked if I could “borrow” their outlet for a little bit. Struck up and little conversation with them and a month later I was linked up with the company. It’s crazy how things happen and who you end up meeting!

Favorite Gaspari product?
Myofusion Probiotic Chocolate. Great to cook with, Also, detonate, should be out soon, just wait.

I read somewhere that you cross fit up until your pregnancy with your son – true?
Yes, that is true. I worked out until the day before I went into labor. I’m pretty sure that a workout I did put me into labor. It was called “The Inducer” Funny right, someone from the gym found it a told me to try it. I was 38 weeks when I did the workout, so the baby was completely developed. Anyway, it was 7 rounds of 7 pullups and 7 wallballs at #12. The next day I went into labor, I really didn’t think it would actually work! I’d have to say working out my whole pregnancy helped me get through labor pretty easily.

What’s the most challenging part of being a mom and getting your workouts in?
The hardest thing would definitely be time management. I have to carve out time later in the day just to get to the gym. Between working full time, training and doing my other random jobs it does get a little overwhelming and frustrating. But, it is all worth it in the end. I love being a mom and my son is the best thing that has ever happened to me.

What piece of advice would you give other mothers who say they are too busy?
You are never too busy for your health. If you can find even 30 minutes to do some sort of physical activity it will help you tremendously.

How important is it for moms to lead by example in health and fitness, in your opinion?
Very important. It starts when you are little. The reason I am so active and eat healthy is because of my parents. You learn what’s around you. So, if you are surrounded by it, you live it. They way children eat when their growing is crucial. It can not only affect them physically but mentally, and also the way the act (attitude, and demeanor) Exercising and eating healthy is something you have to choose to live. It’s worth it.

Did you golf in Boise earlier this month?
I sure did. We were down there for the bodybuilding.com expo and a couple of us from Gaspari Nutrition golfed in a charity golf tournament for the Jayden DeLuca Foundation. We had ALOT of fun. Let’s just say I was a little rusty, but got into the groove of things after a couple holes. But, I think all of us need to stick to what were good at, and that doesn’t include golf!

What’s one thing you’ve yet to do that you’ve always want to?
Skydive

One thing that scares the hell out of you?
Watching Criminal Minds by myself in my house.

Anyone you’d like to thank?
Oh yes. I would love to thank Reebok. For all of the gear and letting me travel to all these places that I’ve never seen. Gaspari Nutrtion, for all of the new friends that I have made and products they let me try, and giving me chance! Atlas Power wraps, for giving me the best wraps possible to protect my wrists. Also, my parents who help so much with my son Cruz. I am lucky enough to go to all these great events, so I need someone to watch him. They are always there to help. I am truly blesse and thankful for all of the sponsorships and people I have in my life. I couldn’t do it without them.

Hardbody Exclusive: Michelle Blank OUT of the Arnold with an injury

The Arnold Sports Festival is just over two weeks away and one of the highlights of the weekend is the Ms. Fitness International. IFBB Pro Michelle Blank was set to compete at this year’s event however she’s had an unfortunate turn of events. Today, Michelle was forced to withdraw from the event due to a calf injury. It’s definitely a bummer for any competitor to sustain an injury but even more so for Michelle as she’s been on a roll in the pro ranks. I caught up with Michelle to get the scoop on what happened and what’s next.

Hey Michelle, Sorry to hear about your injury what a bummer. Are you forced to withdraw from the Arnold competition and St. Louis Pro?
Yes, it is a very big bummer!!! It is with great disappointment that I am withdrawing from the Arnold and will not be competing in St. Louis.

What did you injure?
I tore my left calf muscle in the beginning of January.

You had been kinda nursing another injury as well, right?
Yes. I have been dealing with back and hamstring issues for some time.  It comes along with the sport as well as residual issues from years of gymnastics.

How did you injure your calf?
There is no exciting story as to how my calf tore.  I was working out as usual when it decided to pop.   I’ve been trying to rest it while continuing to prepare for the Arnold.

What do the doctors have you doing for rehab?
I am going to physical therapy a couple of times a week, getting ultra sound to the calf several times a week, doing low resistance cardio, and avoiding any dynamic or plyometric movements.  Of course that means no tumbling.

This puts you out of the Arnold and St. Louis, but will we see you in Pittsburgh?
I’ve been trying to rest the calf while continuing to prepare for the competitions, but it has not healed enough to compete.  Unfortunately and with great disappointment I will miss both the Arnold and St. Louis.  My focus now is to return healthy and in full strength in Pittsburgh.

Have you had injuries in the past?
Being involved in gymnastics as well as being very active for my job, I deal with injuries often.

Still a special agent in the FBI?
I am a Special Agent with IRS Criminal Investigation, currently assigned to the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center as an instructor in Defensive Tactics and Arrest Techniques.

How do you deal with the injury mentally?
I receive a great deal of support from my family, friends, co-workers and coach.  I also read sport psychology books such as  “In Pursuit of Excellence” by Terry Orlick to help maintain a positive outlook and stay focused on my goals.

Do you have any tips/advice for other women who may be battling an injury?
Life is a journey with many twists and turns.  Sometimes detours arise and a new route must be taken.  With the right attitude those detours can often lead you down a better path than you initially planned.

At times the injury can send you on an emotional roller coaster so lean on those close to you for support.  Stay positive, focus on healing, things you can improve on and limit the amount of time you talk about the injury.

Will you still be attending the Arnold?
Yes, I will be attending both the Arnold and St. Louis.  I believe it is important to support my fellow athletes and I look forward to the opportunity to promote Fitness at the events.

Where can people find more info on you and send you their well wishes?
www.apprimefit.com

Thanks for your time Michelle and we wish you a speedy and full recovery.

Nicole Wilkins’ Hardbody Q&A – The Champ is Back!

We’re excited to have Figure International, Figure Olympia Champ (and a few other titles), Nicole Wilkins here to answer YOUR questions. Nicole has not only been winning on the competitive Figure stage she’s also been blowing up the modeling scene too gracing the current issues of IRONMAN and Fitness RX magazines. Let’s check in with the champ and see what’s up…

Hey Hardbodies, I hope you had a Happy Halloween! Hopefully you stayed away from all the treats 🙂

Hard to believe it is already November. These last couple of months have flown by so fast. And what a month September was! I have to say, it was the best month of my career. I won three contests in a row – the Tournament of Champions, the IFBB Figure Olympia (yes!!) and the Sheru Classic in Mumbai, India. What a trip that was! For photos, check out my facebook page (www.facebook.com/nicolewilkins01). It was an experience I will never forget.

Nicole with the Sheru Classic promoters in Mumbia, India

I also re-signed with my sponsor Met-RX and have been enjoying a short off-season filled with traveling before beginning my prep for the Figure International at the Arnold Sports Festival on March 3, 2012.

I chose four questions from my Facebook fan page and my personal email to answer for you. If you have a question you would like answered in a future blog, I’d love to hear from you.

How do I choose between figure and bikini?
I am asked this question on a regular basis. Both categories have similarities and differences which can at times be confusing for a woman whose body seems to be in the middle of the two.

Here are the similarities:
• Presentation – must be confident onstage
• Skin tone – must be dark enough and have a healthy even color
• Hair and makeup – face must match body color (I have seen faces too light or dark for the body), hair should be natural and healthy looking
• Suit – should fit the body correctly and the color should accentuate your features
•  Athletic shape with a small waist and tight glutes

Differences:
• Figure girls tend to be mesomorphs. They have more muscle mass, broader shoulders and less bodyfat. Bikini bodies emulate a dancers body with more curves. These ladies tend to be ‘hard gainers’ and have smaller frames. The bodyfat of a bikini competitor is a bit higher than a figure girl.
• Figure suits are more elaborate with swarovski crystals whereas bikini suits have scrunch butts, do not cross in the back, and are a bit more affordable.
• Figure competitors do quarter turns for posing and bikini competitors do front and back poses only. Bikini scoring has more emphasis on personality so competitors have a bit more leeway with the posing than a figure competitor does.

It is important to determine which division best fits your body type. This will help gear your training program and diet to shape your body to meet the given criteria.

What is your current diet and training program now that you are in the offseason?
Right now I am currently following a carb cycling program (2 days low, 1 day high) and doing 45min-1hr of cardio 6 days a week (sometimes more or less depending on how I am feeling).

My workout split is as follows:
Monday – Shoulders and calves
Tuesday – Legs (track)
Wednesday – Arms and abs
Thursday – Back and calves
Friday – Yoga
Saturday – Chest, hamstrings and light shoulders
Sunday – Yoga

An example of a high day would be:
• Meal 1
1/4c cream of rice
4 egg whites
spinach, cabbage, green beans mixed in egg whites

• Meal 2
1/2c quinoa
4oz extra lean ground turkey
green beans

• Meal 3
4oz sweet potato
4oz chicken

• Meal 4
1.5 scoops Met-Rx Whey protein
2 corn tortillas

• Meal 5
1/2c kidney beans
4oz salmon

• Meal 6
4 egg whites
2 rice cakes
1tbsp almond butter

I have been traveling almost every weekend the last couple months and November will be the same. Because of this, my workout schedule varies a lot as does my meals, but I stay on track because I get all workouts in no matter what time or day, and my macros stay the same even though the sources (proteins, carbs and fats) vary. I always have food prepared with me. I will go out to eat in the offseason although I have only had a couple cheats. I do not like to have a cheat meal every week. I don’t need it, and it honestly throws me off mentally because I don’t like the way it makes me feel. Thanksgiving on the other hand, WILL be my day off 🙂

Is it hard to compete in back-to-back contests? What is your rebound like? After your first show, how do you reintroduce your water? How did you cut it? What about carbs?
For me, competing in two shows is not a problem. Competing in 3 shows back to back is very tiring. Making sure I am getting enough sleep and rest is extremely important to make sure I stay healthy. This is going to vary from person to person, but what works for me is dropping my sodium and tapering water without ever cutting it completely. I keep my carbs a little higher but rely moreso on fat sources. After the contest is over, I add a little bit of sodium back in the form of egg whites and mustard for a few days and also keep my water up. If not, my body will go flat and smooth. A few days from the next show, I will repeat the same process.

How do you decide when you are ready to compete?
This is not only a physical sport, but in my opinion almost more of a mental sport. You have to have a focused mindset 24/7 and surround yourself with people who are there to support your journey. If mentally you are not focused (due to overwhelming responsibilities with school, family, work etc) I would wait until you are ready to give it 100%. You need to be ready to prepare all meals and never miss one, train daily in the gym, drink enough water, and get enough sleep throughout the prep. The sacrifices made make the experience very rewarding. Expect good days and bad days. I also do not recommend picking a competition three months away if you have 40lbs to lose. Choose a realistic competition date so that you are not killing yourself to try and get the weight off. When in doubt hire a coach/trainer. I did all my own prep for the first 3-4yrs of my career, but hiring Kim Oddo pushed me to that next level. Often times we have a distorted image of ourselves because we look in the mirror daily. By having that second eye, it relieves a lot of worry. Enjoy the experience. You will learn a lot about yourself and what you are capable of. Most of all have fun!

Until next time….

Transgender Bodybuilder Making National News Heading into Competition

The general public will often make wise cracks that female bodybuilders look like dudes. It’s fair to say they aren’t always off base whether right or wrong to judge. Many female bodybuilders have bulked to monstrous proportions and taken their bodies to the limits and beyond. Female bodybuilding is often misunderstood and quite frankly most of the world could care less. Today at the NPC Border States in San Diego a few more people than usual will be paying attention to the female bodybuilding competition. That’s because Chris Tina Foxx Bruce will be stepping on stage as a female bodybuilder. It’s only a story because in 1993 Chris competed in male bodybuilding as Chris Gary Bruce.

The issue most people have with Chris competing is not that she’s transgender but that she’s still anatomically a male. Gay-SD.com recently wrote about the topic and shared:

In an e-mail to Bruce regarding her entry into the competition, bodybuilding promoter and NPC contact Jon Lindsay wrote, “In the NPC we cannot offer specialty classes within a class… Because you have made the transition from male to female you are permitted to compete in the Women’s Bodybuilding division in the contest.” Lindsay added he was looking forward to seeing Bruce compete in San Diego in her “best shape ever,” he said.

Chris shared with the site that she is on hormone therapy and ““Some of these women may be taking steroids and if so, their testosterone levels could actually be higher than mine.  This could actually put me at a huge disadvantage.”

The discussion continues. Many people say Chris was born a male and still has a penis so no, he should not be allowed to compete as a female despite living every day as a woman and on female hormones. Others take the stance that there’s little difference than females taking male hormones in an attempt to get bigger and compete at proportions often larger than their male counterparts.

In a video posted on AOL.com, Chris says she has to do twice as much cardio and needs to be stricter on the diet due to the hormone replacements. Will she have the symmetry to compete with other female bodybuilders or will she lack the necessary shape on stage?

Video Interview on AOL.com ends with a crotch shot.

Why the interviewer felt the need to give us all proof that Chris still has a penis at the end of the above video is beyond me but thanks for verifying Mr. Interviewer.

One topic that often comes up is people thinking Chris is gay and attracted to men. As shared in an interview with the Dallas Voice… “People don’t realize: Transgender has nothing to do with sex,” Bruce says. “I’ve never been attracted to guys, but that’s the first assumption many people make.”

Chris lists herself as a “fitness consultant and spokesperson” on her Linkedin account. She shares, “Whether you have 100 + pounds to lose or just need to get rid of those “last 5” pounds I can teach you the right formula for consistent, lasting success.”

Regardless of your point of view on this story one thing is for certain Chris has been successful at generating buzz for herself heading into the Border States. Harbody.com’s correspondent Ron Avidan will be in attendance and report back on whether this story is as big as people are making it out to be or just another day at a bodybuilding competition.

New Olympia Qualifying Rules & The Hardbody Take

The IFBB Pro League issued the following Advisory Notice regarding qualify for the Olympia. This is a huge change in the competition and we will see a much, much smaller 2012 Olympia.

September 21, 2011

NEW OLYMPIA QUALIFYING RULES

After meetings held during the Olympia Weekend and following further discussions between IFBB Professional League and Mr. Olympia, LLC, beginning 2012, only the following competitors will qualify for the Olympia:

1. top four (4) in each division at the Olympia.
2. top three (3) in each division at the Arnold Classic/International;
3. top two (2) in each division at the New York Pro; and
4. 1st Place at all other competitions

The top four (4) in each division at the 2011 Olympia will qualify for the 2012 Olympia.

The remaining 2011 competitions are not affected.

The IFBB Professional League and Mr. Olympia, LLC may offer special invites.

Jim Manion
Chairman
IFBB Professional League

The Hardbody Take:

I have no issue with this as it applies to the men’s division. I think the male bodybuilders competing only one time a year hurts promoters and shows. I am not a big fan of this as it applies to the women. Why? Let’s say Erin Stern, Nicole Wilkins, Ava Cowan or Candice Keene decide to enter shows throughout the year. They are already qualified for the Olympia but if they win a show there will be no other qualifications awarded. That means we could see around 10 women total in the Olympia. It’s highly unlikely that they will enter the majority of shows in 2012 but there’s nothing stopping them. I think one person from every competition should qualify. That means if the first place competitor has qualified second should get the qualification. That would grant one competitor for each show to qualify for the Olympia. Awarding only the first place person and then opening the Olympia up to special invites is a little unsettling to me. It then opens up a can of worms of how they will be chosen, how many and who gets them. I totally understand and agree with the Olympia organizers wanting to cut down on the number of people qualifying for the show. Limiting the bikini, figure and fitness to just the winner makes me uneasy.

If the new rule were in place this year we’d see this line up for the Figure Olympia competition.
1. Erin Stern
2. Nicole Wilkins
3. Cheryl Brown
4. Candice Keene
5. Ava Cowan
6. Gennifer Strobo
7. Felicia Romero
8. Kristal Richardson
9. Courtney West
10. Heather Mae French

That would leave Alicia Harris who placed in the top six at the Olympia not even qualifying for the Olympia. Kristal Richardson and Heather Mae French did not compete in the 2011 Olympia. Teresa Anthony notched a win under her heels and would be in the mix. Courtney West finished tied for 16th, Felicia Romero was 15th, Cheryl Brown was 7th and Gennifer Strobo was 11th.

I haven’t done the breakdown on Bikini and Fitness but you get the idea. I think around 15 competitors for the Olympia is good as it’s intended to be the best of the best. We’ll see how this shakes out for the new year.

What’s your thoughts on the new Olympia qualifications?

Hardbody Style’n with Cindy Whitehead – Go With The Flow

The Cinster aka The Sports Stylist® aka the baddest style’n guru in the land shares her latest hardbody style’n tip for models. She sheds some light on what it’s like to be a stylist on a project and the model is asked what they think of the outfit. Some of you might think, well if you don’t want to know don’t ask me, which I won’t argue with however in this case sometimes it’s best to do as Cindy suggests, just go with the flow.

HARD BODY STYLE’N TIP:
So what do you think of this outfit? Sometimes a model will get asked that question, either by the stylist, client or even the photographer. That’s a hard one. I liken this question to “how is your day?” – it’s a general question and perhaps not much more than that it’s best to smile and defer to the experts who are there to help. The stylist may know that a certain designer or color needs to be featured in this issue and knows that you are the girl that can pull this look off – so if you say “I never wear pink” tha next thing you know 5 people in the room have all decided they know what’s best and the whole team is back to square one. You know you look amazing and can pull anything off (that’s why you were chosen to model right?) so go with the flow and be happy to rock any look they give you.

Hardbody Interview with Canada’s Newest Fitness Star – Jodi Boam

IFBB Fitness Pro Jodi Boam has been a gymnast for half of her life. She placed fifth in her IFBB pro debut and has the potential to be a top contender in every show she enters. She became the youngest IFBB Fitness Pro in Canada at age 23. Jodi was kind enough to share a bit more about herself days out from her first pro show on her homeland of Canada.

Look for her to make some noise this weekend at the Toronto Supershow and don’t be surprised if you see her competing on the Olympia stage this September. She has a fun personality and a killer set of arms. Read about her work out split, cooking dos and don’ts and why she’s a bad driver, even in her own drive way.

Name: Jodi Boam

Born in: Hamilton Ontario Canada – proud Hamiltonian, lol

Currently live in: Burlington, Ontario

Number of years competing in gymnastics: 11 competitive years!

What level did you make it to? I was a national level gymnast by age 15, and qualified to compete at the World Championships, but unfortunately had to pull out the week of, due to injury!

How’s your injury from the gymnastic days doing? My old injuries don’t bother me too often, only because I do know my limits and which exercises to avoid. Currently, My elbows are my main issue, where some days I cannot do my routine or train arms as any pressure causes sharp pains. But no, there’s nothing too crazy to worry or stop me.

How did you get started in competitive fitness:
Once I retired from gymnastics, I started weight training to stay in shape – where my best friend Rachel Davis introduced me to the world of Fitness through Mindi O’Brien. I loved weight training, was a great gymnast, have a very competitive personality and have a need to perform! it just fits me so perfectly, so both Rachel and Mindi both inspired to be where I am today!!

How’s it feel to compete with Mindi on the same stage? it actually feels like a dream!! She was my idol for years, and my coach and mentor since I started competing!! I wouldn’t even be at this level without Mindi O! To be on stage with my coach is seriously a dream – but definitely SOO terrifying lol. It makes me realize I AM in the “big league” and fighting for the top against the best out there!

Contest history:
Had my first fitness victory in 2007, where I instantly got hooked!
2011 IFFB PRO DEBUT – 5th in New York
2010 CBBF Canadian Nationals, 1st place Women’s Fitness Short and Overall Fitness Winner
2009 CBBF Canadian Nationals, 3rd place Women’s Fitness Short and Best Routine Award
2008 OPA Championships (Level 3), 1st place Fitness
2008 CBBF Canadian Nationals, 5th place Women’s Fitness Short
2007 CBBF Nationals World Qualifier, 1st place Women Fitness Short
2007 OPA National Qualifier (Natural Ontario’s) (Level 1), 1st place Fitness
2007 OPA Northern Ontario Championships (Level 2), 1st place Fitness

I understand you’re “Canada’s youngest pro” – How old or young are you? I turned 24 in March, but Earned my pro card August 2010 at Age 23! Unfortunately I am no longer thee youngest, but currently still the youngest in Canada to obtain it. Crystal Heck now holds that title earning her pro card recently at age 24, being just a few weeks younger than me.

What’s the most challenging part of preparing for fitness? Dealing with the bumps and bruises from practicing on the hardwood floor! After having bouncy mats for so many years, I often forget certain skills should not be done on wood, lol. Especially a plain old front roll! I’m sure all fitness ladies agree 😛

Who inspires you in the fitness industry? Mindi O’Brien was my first inspiration, who helped get me where I am today! Over the years, I’ve also gained huge respect and admiration for Oksana Grishina. She’s amazing and beautiful and all aspects and I’m looking forward to meeting her, and watching get a well deserved WIN!

You have some pretty wicked strength. What your workouts consist of? It often changes, but here is a basic Idea I’ve been recently following.
Monday: Chest
Tuesday: Legs
Wednesday: Shoulders/back
Thursday: plyo, cardio, routine
Friday: Biceps/triceps
Saturday: Hamstrings/shoulders
Sunday: off

Do you do cardio on an empty stomach? Yes! I actually really enjoy it (now that I have a treadmill at home…) I do 30-45 minutes fasted cardio, Which I find completely wakes me up, and energizes me for the day! I actually feel lost without it, and not as motivated through the day when I skip my morning cardio! Of course some days off is great too. ( this is mainly for comp. prep only… where off-season I may only do this 2-3 times a week rather than 5-6 times a week)

What type of cardio do you prefer to do? Intervals! Honestly, anything that really kick my butt! I will do sprinting intervals, plyo circuits, or running on the step-mill intervals. I enjoy that complete failure feeling – I know I’m pushing my limits every time!

What types of exercises do you do to help with your flexibility? Active stretching. Warm up with high kicks, or long stride lunges, etc. and also coaching gymnastics I will stretch with the kids or do demonstrations and such.

How many hours a day do you practice your routine or work on your gymnastics?
Well… it should be A LOT more than I do… routine is only once a week with my plyo days. Sometimes I will practice random skills after my nightly cardio, or try a couple skills at gymnastics while I’m coaching… but I actually wish I could do it more often. I am finding everything becoming more difficult over the last while, so training “gymnastics” more often IS a goal for me!

I saw a video where it looks like you and your friend Rachel like to be a couple of dorks in the gym. Are you the queen dork or you still working on that title? Between the 2 of us, I don’t even think Napolian Dynamite could top us. Sometimes even I wonder about our sanity lol. But if we choose the Queen geek between rachel and myself – Ill be proud to take the title – even if she wants it!! haha.

What can the audience expect to see on stage? Still being a rookie Pro, My main goal is to catch the judges and audiences attention, and make my name more well known! I want to be remember for upcoming shows, and for many years to come!

Are you excited about the routines being 2/3 of the total score? I am proud of the physique I bring the stage, but yes, I’m very excited about routine being a highly score!! I normally perform pretty well, and bring a jam packed, energetic routine! I just hope the judges agree as well!

How many meals do you eat a day? 6

Favorite diet meal: ground beef with Yams – mixed with franks red hot sauce and tex mex spice!

What’s on the menu. Let me guess – Chicken and Asparagus? lol, not always. At the moment yes, only because I’m few days away from the show, so its very limited and strict! But I have many different meals throughout the course of my prep, my favorites being ground beef with yams, and my egg white and oatmeal pancake. Oh ya, and my protein shake with avocado and raspberries is amazing too!! MMMMM

What cooking experiment would you tell other women NOT to do? Well.. I did try cooking oatmeal and raspberries together – and then pan fry it to make a “cookie” but of course it didn’t turn out too great, and I think I had to throw that frying pan away!! Oh ya… and tried a tuna and asparagus egg white omelet! the 3 DO NOT mix well! Vomitorium! lol

Any cooking experiment that worked out and you’re proud to share with others? Blended vanilla protein powder with peanut butter… poured over cooked oatmeal! Just use small amounts of water so its thick and pasty! YUM! 🙂

Are you a bad driver or is the banged up car other people’s fault? lol, Oh God haha… I am a TERRIBLE driver! I admit… I’ve been in about 8 accidents, 7 MY FAULT! and 6 being me hitting PARKED CARS!! – and ya, I hit a parked car in a driveway THE DAY I bought it! .. needless to say, I’m on my 3rd car in 5 years! lol… BUT thank god nothing has been through insurance and my payments are still low!! LMAO

For those of us in the USA, what is “Bulk Barn”? They have everything from dog food, to candy, to baking powder! Where you can take as much or as little as you need, and just pay per unit price!! Its actually amazing! Especially for the gummy bears, chocolate almonds, and Reeces Pieces! lol.

Do you get pissed at McDonald’s workers often? lmao – don’t make me look bad!! But this women seriously got my coffee wrong BOTH times I went! I know it was FREE coffee… but still! McDUMMIES!! haha kidding

What will you be eating for your “first supper” – the first thing after your show? A cheeseburger is my go to!! every time – with fries, tons of ketchup, and a hot brownie with ice-cream for dessert! It never fails!!

When you’re not preparing for a show what would you be doing? I’m always training!! I absolutely love weight training! being at the gym is my happy place, and my time for myself. But if I’m not competing, then I will spend more time focusing on building my business and working more hours to safe for the business! I am currently starting online training for athletes and competitors and working a facility with my boyfriend to personally train them as well!

How long have you been coaching and how often do you coach? I started coaching gymnastics when I was 14 years old, and been going strong ever since. I normally coach about 3-4 times a week, having the 7-13 year old competitive program. Must admit, its a sweet job, especially to keep myself practicing and motivated, and remaining a great role model for the kids! Its a win-win job!

Any supplements that you use and would recommend to other women? Isolate protein, Agent M, Sub-Q, Fubar, L-carnatine, glutamend, vitamins, fish oils, pre-workout drinks (many kinds)! This is about everything I take, and fund great results from each!

What’s the key to recovery from the hard workouts and training? Good sleep, proper stretching, stay active afterwards – don’t just laze around to get stiff!!

What songs are you jamming to lately? David Guetta – anything from him!! Rihanna, Bon Jovi, and JUSTIN BIEBER!! haha seriously, I love a large mix of music from rock, heavy metal, and dance! but for working out – I like a strong bass to pump up to!!

Anyone you’d like to thank? My sponsors, FUSION BODYBUILDING, they have been amazing and provide unbelievable products!! Also my sponsors from PUR Nutrion, best friend and inspiration Rachel Davis, and of course my boyfriend -number 1 support system Eric Daye!

Do anything different this time than previous shows? Actually this time around, I am trying a new diet approach from previous shows! I am going to try the carb and fat loading before the show – whereas normally I coast along and don’t change anything – not even water during my last week of prep!! Thought I would try it, and see how it works for me!! Needless to say, I am extremely excited about getting carbs mid-week!! bring it on!

Where can people find more info on you?

fusionbodybuilding.com
Jodiboam.com is in the works, but almost ready to rock!! keep checking and to see when its up and running!! 🙂
also, many videos on Youtube just by typing my name!! GO, do it!! I need more hits!! lol

Thanks Jodi and all the best this weekend!
