Results: IFBB Pro World Bikini Championships

IFBB Bikini Pro, India Paulino keeps hip-popp’n her way to the top. The sassy Floridian notched another pro win to her bikini belt at the 2012 IFBB Pro Wold Championships held in Miami, Florida. India won in unanimous fashion, at least on the judges’ score sheets, over a competitive line-up.

bikini-pro-world india wins

Second place went to Lacey DeLuca who edged out new-comer Yarelis Gonzales by two points. Personally, I had Yarelis winning the show. She was the most relaxed, confident and poised on stage during the pre-judging rounds. She also had nice balance of being tight and toned. Lacey presented in a polished manner and many people often comment on her nice hair. I wouldn’t place her as high she does simply because of her lower half. I’d like to see a much tighter backside to finish in the top spots. Just my opinion and the judges obviously see things differently than me. It’s no knock on Lacey and a second place finish in this line-up is an accomplishment for her. The always classy Yeshaira finished in fourth. I would have had her in the top three but she’s had an impressive 2012 season and is consistently a threat to the top spots. Rounding out the top five was Aly Veneno in her pro debut. Aly could continue to be in the mix of each show if she shows up in similar fashion. Monique Gantt was just outside the top five and presented her best look as a pro to date.

All She Does Is Win-Win-Win, Natalie Planes wins in Miami

Heading into the final IFBB Fitness show of the year not many (if any) pundits were talking about Natalie Planes. Natalie flew under the radar heading into the IFBB Pro World Championships (her pro debut) but made her presence immediately known during the Fitness Routines. She was fourth heading into the routine round and won in convincing fashion on the judges’ score sheets. The routines count for 2/3 of the overall score and a solid routine propelled Natalie to her first win, in her first pro show. Natalie won the 2012 NPC Atlantic States and Team Universe before heading into this show.

Whitney Jones brought an improved physique to the stage and tied for second in the routine round, locked up a second place finish. Ryall Graber-Vasani, who many thought could win the show, had to settle for third. She was the unamious winner in the physique round but the judges didn’t favor her in the routine rounds which dropped her down to third. Fiona Harris was another contender who many thought could win the show but again the routine round plagued the Canadian and kept her out of the top spots.

Candice Lewis Wins a Record-Tieing Fifth Show

Candice Lewis’ win at the 2012 IFBB Pro World Figure Championships puts her in elite company. The win in Miami over the weekend ties her for the most pro wins in one year, a record held by Erin Stern and Nicole Wilkins. Lewis started her 2012 season in May at the Pittsburgh Pro. She finished in 7th place there but since that time she’s been on a roll. Aside from the Olympia (where she also placed 7th) she has yet to lose a show. A pretty impressive feat for someone who has only been pro for little more than one year.

figure pro world
Rookie Kamla Macko was nipping at her heels but had to settle for second place, the third runner-up finish in her pro career. Kamla achieved IFBB pro status at the 2012 USAs and has finished in the top five in each of her four pro shows. Rounding out the top three was another rookie on fire, Dana Ambrose. Dana turned pro in June, at the 2012 NPC JR Nationals, and since that time has notched three top three finishes. She was third in her pro debut in Houston, second in Kentucky and then third again here. Look for her to be on the Olympia stage in 2013 if she continues to stay consistent.

Yoko Ono Reveals John Lennon Inspired Clothing Line

Well this is certainly not your average, run-of-the-mill line of clothing. This week, Yoko Ono brought her 1969 sketches, inspired by her love for John Lennon, to life. The cultural icon collaborated with Opening Ceremony to construct “Fashions for Men: 1969-2012″. They are unique that’s for sure. Who would not only buy these but also wear them well that’s to be seen.

photos courtesy of Opening Ceremony

How did the collaboration between Ono and Opening Ceremony come to fruition? In a recent SPIN interview, Opening Ceremony’s Humberto Leon shared, “I met Yoko about three years ago when we opened our Tokyo store and she came; it was really exciting. She’d mentioned to me, ‘I drew this men’s line in 1969 for John and I’ve never shown anybody, I’d love for you to see it.’”

Check out the entire line on Opening Ceremony and we dare you not to giggle. Especially at the $200 jock strap. Seriously? If you know anyone who has the cajones to wear this collection let us know, we’d love to meet them. Props to Yoko though. The woman is doing her own thing and following through on something she started 43-years ago.

3x Figure International Champion Nicole Wilkins Will Not Defend Title in 2013

IFBB Figure Pro and popular fitness model, Nicole Wilkins announced on facebook that she would not be defending her Figure International title in 2013. Nicole has been greeted by Arnold Schwarzenegger, co-promoter of the event, the past three years with the first place trophy and coveted winner’s jacket. Nicole shared with her fans that she’ll be taking some time off from competing to make improvements to her physique. Look for her to be back on stage in the summer of 2013.

nicole arnold

Nicole’s Official Announcement:

For the past five years, the Monday after Thanksgiving always marks the first day of my prep for the Arnold Classic. But not this year – because, since 2008, I’ve decided to sit out the event. For the first time since I’ve been a pro, I’m going to give myself a longer off-season to make the improvements I feel are necessary to get my physique where I want it to be to hopefully win back the Figure Olympia title.

For those of you who will be in Columbus, I will be too – just at the Met-Rx booth and not on stage. I’m sure it will be hard watching all of the other girls competing that weekend, but I know this is the right decision for me at this time. And I know I’ll be back on the Arnold Classic Figure International stage in 2014 going for title No. 4!

Thank you to Fitness Management Group (FMG), my trainer Kim Oddo and MET-Rx for supporting me with this decision. Here’s to a great 2013!

The IFBB Pro Figure division was added to the Arnold Sports Festival in 2003 and continues to be one of the most popular women’s events. A new champion crowned at the 2013 Figure International, making one happy woman the 6th title-holder in the event’s history.

2012 Iowa IFBB Pro Bikini Results

Ashley Cronley LeBlanc capped off her rookie year with a win at the 2012 IFBB Iowa Pro. She’s consistently finished in the top spots in her pro shows since turning pro at the 2012 NPC USA Championships. Ashley edged out rookie Crystal Green by one point. Green wasted no time getting her feet as a pro, having won her class a week prior at the NPC Nationals. Rounding out the top three was Lacey DeLuca. Lacey has finished in the top three of each of her three pro shows. The consistent top five finishes accumulate into points for the Olympia Point Series.

2012 IFBB Iowa Pro Bikini Preview

The 2012 IFBB Bikini Pro show will take place this weekend in Council Bluffs, Iowa. The show is the second-to-last on the 2012 IFBB Pro League schedule. The number of pros competing may not be large in numbers however it will be competitive with no clear cut favorite.

If you can correctly pick the top five in this line-up then you should go purchase lottery tickets immediately.

1. Gigi Amurao - Gigi was third in her pro debut at the Ft. Lauderdale Cup. She’ll look to be in the top five again to add to her Olympia point series total.

2. Jennifer Chapman - Jennifer will look to get back on track after two lackluster finishes. She has two second place pro finishes but coming off a 15th place finish at Houston. Look for her to be back in the hunt here.

3. Lacey DeLuca - Lacey is looking for her first pro win after two second place finishes as a pro. She’s always polished with her posing and presentation. She has to bring a tighter backside to lock in the top spot. If she does that here she could be your winner.

4. Sandi Forsythe - Sandi will be making her pro debut after graduating to the big leagues at the 2012 NPC USA. She’s one of the few blondes in the division and it will help her stand out in this line-up as silly as it sounds. If she brings a similar look and presentation to this show as she did at USAs, she’ll be  in the mix.

5. Crystal Green - Crystal Green is wasting no time jumping into the mix. Crystal won her class last week at the NPC Nationals and will test the waters in the pro league. Props to her for going right into this show, she’s in shape so why not. She has killer eyes (a good thing) and if she can captivate the judges with her physique she’ll be the dark horse to shake things up.

6. Michon Leddy - Michon is coming off an 8th place finish at the Ft. Lauderdale Pro and if she can crack the top five in this show it would be a successful outing.

7. Ashley LeBlanc - The crawdaddy hip-poppah is finding her grove on the pro stage. She’s ditched the painful looking twist in her posing and has fun on stage. Look for her to be in the mix for a top spot here.

8. Cristina Liberatore - Cristina will be competing for the first time as Mrs. Liberatore. Congrats on the marriage. We never really know which Cristina will show up. She’s always in shape it more an issue of being too conditioned and ditching the goofy poses, especially the duck lips. :-) She has the potential if she presents herself well.

9. Nicole Moneer - Nicole is riding the wave of being at the Sheru Classic. She was third there and was third at last year’s Iowa Pro. She continues to improve her physique for the Bikini division and if her booty it tight she could be a contender.

10. Brittney Young - Brittney is one of the taller competitors and if she can pose without being over the top she’ll catch the judges’ attention.

2012 IFBB Kentucky Pro Figure Results

Ann Titone went into the Kentucky Pro Figure as one of the favorites and she delivered. The win is her second of the year and qualifies her for the 2013 Figure Olympia. Dana Ambrose finished in the runner-up position, in just her second pro show. Dana debuted in Houston last month and finished in third. She’s positioned herself as a contender early on as a pro. Bernita Stuckey finished in third and Vicki Counts was fourth. A bit of a surprise to some was Alicia Harris’ fifth place finish. Heading into the show many felt it would be between her and Titone.

2012 IFBB Pro Sacramento Pro Bikini Prejudging Report

The 2012 IFBB Sacramento Pro Bikini prejudging has concluded and it looks like Amanda Latona will be your winner. She’s coming off a win at the 2012 Border States last week and certainly every bit as good this week. Amanda won this show last year and if things go as most see it from prejudging, she’ll hold onto her title. Posing it out for second and third are Tawn Eubanks and Tiffay Marie Boydston. They look to have a lock on the top three spots but who will finish where is a toss up.

Sacramento Pro Bikini

The HARDBODY 411
2012 IFBB Pro Sacramento Pro Bikini Prejudging Report

1. Noy Alexander - Noy is one of the shorter competitors on the stage but more than holds her own. She could have been a tiny bit tighter in the glutes but overall this was an impressive showing for her. I’d have her in my top five but it doesn’t look like the judges agree

2. Jessica Arevalo - Jessica brought an improved stage presence and we finally saw her rock the bikini body with confidence. Her physique continues to refine and overall her best showing. It looks like she will be in about the fourth place spot. I’d like to see her ditch the legs crossed pose as it tends to make her hips look a bit wider than what they are.

3. Tiffany Marie Boydston - Tiffany will be in the top three spots however I wouldn’t have her that high and here’s why. She certainly has fun and smiles on stage, which is great when presenting a confident look on stage. I feel she’s a bit too lean up top and I’d like to see a bit more muscle. I don’t like to see ribs sticking out. I also wasn’t a fan of the sparkly blue eyeshadow that matched her suit. The judges like the look she brings to the stage so it certainly works for her. She’ll be second or third tonight.

4. Theresa Byrne - Theresa was one of the first crew of women to turn pro in Bikini and the look has evolved a bit over the years. Theresa was in great shape, nice condition but had a bit too much muscle for what the judges look for. I like her look though and the only thing I wasn’t a fan of was the bright red lipstick that matched her suit. If she continues to compete she’ll need to shed some muscle.

5. Maureen Doherty - Maureen has a physique with long, lean lines and most women would kill to have it. She presents with a bit of a scared or timid look to her and needs to channel a bit more energy to her posing. I wasn’t a big fan of the sparkly blue eyeshadow that matched her suit.

6. Tawna Eubanks – Tawna has a smile that will light up a room. As one of the few blondes in the pro ranks she continues to hold her own on the Sacramento stage. She was second here last year to Amanda Latona and it’s how I see it going down again tonight. She doesn’t carry a ton of muscle but has a nice conditioned physique. Tawna definitely a healthy bikini body that will motivate women.

7. Betheny Jordan - Betheny was a late entry to the line-up. She turned pro at the 2012 NPC USAs by winning her class. She needed a bit more posing oil on her body and could have been a touch tighter with her conditioning. At this level of competition sometimes it’s splitting hairs. She has a nice look and if she comes in just a bit tighter in the legs she’ll move up.

8. Amanda Latona - Amanda knows how to own the stage. She walks out with confidence and you can’t help but be captivated. She has one of the best booties, if not thee best, in the IFBB Bikini division. The look she brought to the stage was one of the better ones we’ve seen. It looked full, hydrated and healthy. My only criticism would be a couple awkward looking poses she hit. I wasn’t a fan of those poses as it looked uncomfortable. That aside she was on point and will be your winner again, at least in my opinion.

9. Ashley LeBlanc - Ashley has a blast on stage and exudes a positive, happy vibe. If she’s not having fun she does a great job of faking it. She was a little lean up top and we could see vascularity in her shoulders. She has a nice look and improved her posing so there were not snapped hips. I’d have her in the top five tonight.

10. Janelle Saitone-McGuire - Janelle has a great bikini model look and continues to improve on stage. She’s poised and polished. The only thing she’ll need to improve is her size. She’s a little lean up top and but her lower body is great. If she can fill out just a bit I think she’ll improve. I’d have her higher than she’ll likely finish tonight.

Call-outs:
• 1st Call-out: Noy Alexander,Tiffany Boydston, Tawna Eubanks, Amanda Latona, Ashley LeBlanc
- Jessica Arevalo added to this group.
• 2nd Call-out: Janelle Saitoine-McGuire, Betheny Jordan, Thersa Bryne, Maureen Doherty
• 3rd Call-out: Jessica Averalo, Noy Alexander, Ashley LeBlanc, Janelle Saitone-McGuire
• 4th Call-out:Tawna Eubanks, Amanda Latona, Tiffany Marie Boydston, Jessica Arevalo

How I think it will go tonight.

2. Tawna Eubanks

2012 NPC Eastern USA Championships Rescheduled

The 2012 NPC Eastern USA Championships scheduled to take place on November 3, 2012 has been rescheduled to November 18. Due to hurricane Sandy the show had to be rescheduled despite the promoters best efforts to hold the show this weekend.

2012 easterns rescheduled

ANNOUNCEMENT:

via npcnewsonline.com

Despite our best efforts, we are unable to hold the Eastern USA Championships on November 3. But the SHOW WILL GO ON. The event has been RESCHEDULED for SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 18 at the Tribecca Performing Arts Center (same location).

For details keep checking www.bevfrancis.com

Downtown New York City has suffered unprecedented damage from Hurricane Sandy and the Tribecca Performing Arts Center is closed for repairs. The damaged venue along with the persistent transportation shut downs and delays makes it unfeasible to hold a contest on November 3 that would meet the high standard of the Eastern USA.

So on November 18, we will deliver top-notch venue, extraordinary staff, expert judging, and unrivaled competition you’ve come to expect the NPC New York. Along with something more!

Rescheduling the contest has allowed us to add a one-time special event: THE NEW YORK PRO SEMINAR featuring Mr. Olympia Phil Heath. Immediately following the Eastern USA pre-judging, Heath will be on stage to discuss training, nutrition, supplements, and even answer questions from the audience!

If that isn’t enough, joining Mr. Olympia on stage will be Pro Figure star Ava Cowan, Bikini Champion India Paulino, 3x Olympia 202 Champion Kevin English, Team Bombshell’s Shannon Dey, and IFBB Pros Juan Morel, Marco Rivera, Jon De La Rosa, & more!

We appreciate your understanding and continued support and we hope to see you on November 18!

2012 IFBB Kentucky Pro Muscle Figure Preview

The 2012 Kentucky Muscle Pro is the second to last Pro Figure show of the year. Currently, there are 17 women looking to leave Louisville with an Olympia qualification. Only one will do so and four others will collect points in the Olympia Point Series. The show doesn’t have many “big names” so to speak which will make it a bit more interesting for fans to follow. There are a few likely favorites heading into the show and ones to watch in the mix for a top spot.

kentucky muscle

Look for Alicia Harris to be the one to beat if she’s in the condition we know she’s capable of achieving. She’s coming off a 4th place finish at the Ft. Lauderdale Cup and has the tendency to do better at the end of the year. She’ll likely be challenged by Ann Titone for the top spot. Ann is coming off a 12th place finish at the Olympia, one spot behind… you guessed it Alicia Harris. Aside from the Olympia, Ann finished in the top five in each of the shows she competed in this year. She took home her first win at the Tampa Pro and if she brings that look to the stage in Kentucky, she could leave the winner. Look for Dana Ambrose to hang in the top spots again after her pro debut in Houston where she finished in third. Krista Dunn will look to move up into the top five after a respectable 9th place finish at her debut in Florida earlier this month. Jessie Hilgenberg will be making her pro debut after achieving pro status at the 2012 NPC USAs. Simone Mack was 15th at the Ft. Lauderdale Cup but look for her to move up at this show and make a run for the top five. Another likely contender for the top spots is Chikondi Mseka. She was fifth at this show last year and has the potential to be in the mix once again.

My dark horse pick to shake things up in the top five is Monica Labriola. She put together an impressive run in the NPC before turning pro at the 2012 North Americans. She’ll be one of the shorter competitors on stage but has tremendous shape and could be in the top spots her first time out. Keep an eye on her to be in the mix.

2012 IFBB Sacramento Pro Bikini Preview

This weekend in Sacramento, California marks one of the final shows for the IFBB Pro Bikini division. Surprisingly, there are only 9 women entered in the show. Despite the low numbers it won’t stop the top spots from being competitive. Amanda Latona is coming off a win at the Border States and will look to collect her second win in a row. She’ll square off against a number of the women she faced in San Diego last week and has to be the favorite in the show.

sacramento pro bikini
Amanda went back to what worked last week and it paid off. No wild hair and odd posing like we saw at the Olympia. If Amanda brings the same look to Sacramento she’ll leave the champ once again. She won this show last year and is the one to beat again this year. Tiffany Marie Boydston was in the runner-up position to Amanda and if she can repeat that it will be a win for her. She’s one of the smaller competitors in the line-up and has a look the judges reward. She’ll face a different panel of judges this weekend so we’ll have to see how they place her.  Tawna Eubanks found success on this stage last year when she finished second to Amanda Latona. Don’t be surprised if she is in a similar spot again this year.

Noy Alexander has been competing pretty much all year and shows that when you don’t fall off your nutrition plan you can consistently stay in shape. I like her physique and the look she brings to the stage. She was a bit better in San Diego than she was in Houston and look for her to be in the hunt. Jessica Arevalo continues to improve her stage presence and when she takes the stage with confidence she shines. Look for her to hold her own if she’s able to put the nerves aside and exude the confidence that earned her pro status. It’s been about a year since Theresa Bryne was on stage. She’s only competed in a couple of shows since turning pro so it will be a coin flip on what we’ll see her bring to the stage this weekend. Ashley LeBlanc has a fourth and a fifth place finish to her credit since turning pro at the 2012 NPC USAs. If she can repeat the top five finish again, she’ll add to her Olympia Point Series total. Janelle-Saitone-McGuire has classy stage presence and continues to improve. She doesn’t have the same amount of muscle as some of the other women in this line-up but should be in the mix. Maureen Doherty rounds out the line-up and will look to improve her placing in this her third pro show.

3. Tiffany Marie Boydston
4. Theresa Byrne
5. Maureen Doherty
6. Tawna Eubanks
7. Amanda Latona
8. Ashley LeBlanc
9. Janelle Saitone-McGuire

The competition is held in conjunction with the NPC Sacramento which looks to have over 300 competitors. This show is often a launching pad for competitors heading into the NPC Nationals next week. We’ve seen a number of women do well in Sacramento and go on to achieve pro status at the Nationals. One added benefit of doing this show is getting in front of Sandy Williamson who is the head judge of the IFBB Pro women’s division. As a NPC competitor you can get valuable feedback on what works and what doesn’t in order to make it on the next level.

2012 IFBB Border States Bikini Results & Photos

Amanda Latona found herself back in the winner’s circle once again in San Diego over the weekend. This was Amanda’s third show of the year but first win. The win qualifies her for the 2013 Bikini Olympia. She wisely returned to the Amanda of “old” – meaning she brought back the polished look judges and fans have come to expect from the cover girl. Finish in second was Tiffany Boydston and rounding out the top three was Stacey Alexander.

Amanda Latona Border States
The second through fifth place finishers pick up points towards the 2013 Bikini Olympia and with just two shows left in the calendar year, look for a number of the same women to be entering the remaining shows.

Noy Alexander bounced back into the top five after an 11th place finish earlier this month at the Houston Pro. Ashley Cronley LeBlanc finished in the top five once again. This just her second pro show she’s been in the top five at both shows. If she continues to stay consistently in the top five she could find herself in the mix for an Olympia birth via the Point Series.

IFBB Prague Pro Bikini Results

The IFBB Evl’s Prague Pro Bikini results are in and the winner wasn’t much of a surprise. Canada’s Justine Munro leaves the Czech Republic with another victory, a check for $7,000 and an Olympia qualification. As mentioned in the Hardbody preview, dark horse Anna Virmajoki gave her a run for her money and finished in the second place spot, a great finish in her pro debut. Rounding out the top three was Noemi Olah from Hungary. Last week’s British Grand Prix winner, Michelle Brannan slipped to fifth and Nikola Weiterova moved into fourth. The American field of women failed to crack the top 6.

Lolo Jones Makes the US National Bobsled Team

Lolo Jones was America’s sweetheart heading into the London Olympics despite others having faster times in the 100m Hurdles. Now the track star is trying her hand at the U.S. Bobsled team. Whodda thunk?  She joins a team with a mix of veterans and rookies; she’s not the only female Olympic athlete on the roster. Olympians Tianna Madison and Emily Azevedo were also named to the national team. When’s the last time the Bobsled received this much attention? It’s likely been 20 years, when NFL football star Hershel Walker earned a spot on the 1992 Olympic team.

Lolo Jones Bobsled

PRESS RELEASE
U.S. national bobsled team named

LAKE PLACID, N.Y. (Oct. 25, 2012) – The 2012-2013 national bobsled team is composed of a diverse roster of powerful and determined athletes who are eager to carry the momentum from last season’s success into the upcoming World Cup circuit.

This season’s women’s bobsled team is a mix of rookies and veterans. Elana Meyers (Douglasville, Ga.) received a bye onto the team for her World Championship bronze medal performance last season and will pilot USA I. Jamie Greubel (Newtown, Pa.) won both selection races to earn her position as pilot of USA II, while Jazmine Fenlator (Wayne, N.J.) was named to USA III in her third season as a driver.

The six women’s bobsled push athletes named to the national team includes: World Indoor Champion and American record holder 100-meter hurdler Lolo Jones (Des Moines, Iowa), 4×100-meter relay Olympic gold medalist Tianna Madison (Elyria, Ohio), 2010 Olympian Emily Azevedo (Chico, Calif.), World Championship medalist Katie Eberling (Palos Hills, Ill.), current Lake Placid start record holder Aja Evans (Chicago, Ill.), and former University of California at Berkeley track athlete Cherrelle Garrett (Hayward, Calif.).

Reigning World Champion Steven Holcomb (Park City, Utah) will once again drive the men’s team USA I sled. National Guardsman Nick Cunningham (Monterey, Calif.) earned his position at the helm of USA II after sweeping team selection races, while Cory Butner (Yucaipa, Calif.) will pilot USA III.

The pool of men’s bobsled push athletes is one of the strongest yet. The selection features Holcomb’s world championship push crew of Steve Langton (Melrose, Mass.), Justin Olsen (San Antonio, Texas) and Curt Tomasevicz (Shelby, Neb.). The remaining nine athletes named to the team includes veterans Adam Clark (Owenton, Ky.), Johnny Quinn (McKinney, Texas), Chuck Berkeley (Walnut Creek, Calif.), Laszlo Vandracsek (Phoenix, Ariz.), Chris Fogt (Alpine, Utah), Dallas Robinson (Georgetown, Ky.), Jesse Beckom (Chicago, Ill.) and rookies Andreas Drbal (Belmont, Calif.) and Nic Taylor (Hayward, Calif.).

The skeleton national team will be named following the final selection race on Nov. 1. The World Cup tour kicks off in Lake Placid, N.Y. from Nov. 8-10.

Lolo Jones Off to Strong Start in U.S. Bobsled

Lolo Jones was one of the United States’ Olympic hopefuls in track and field. Lolo came up short and failed to medal but that didn’t stop America from wanting more of Miss Jones. Now the track star is testing thing in the bobsled event. Check out the story below.

lolo jones bobsled

LAKE PLACID, N.Y.–
Olympic hurdler Lolo Jones has posted an impressive start at the U.S. bobsled team selection races.

Seeking a push-athlete spot, Jones and pilot Jazmine Fenlator finished second in the opening night of selection races Saturday, their combined two-run time of 1 minute, 57.01 seconds just 0.05 seconds behind Jamie Greubel and Aja Evans (1:56.96). It was Jones’ competitive bobsled debut.

Greubel and Evans set a track push record of 5.43 seconds. Evans won the national push championships earlier this season.

Nick Cunningham and Johnny Quinn (1:54.51) won the first series of two-man races, followed by Cory Butner and Jesse Beckom (1:54.58) and Codie Bascue and Nic Taylor (1:55.04).

Veteran pilots Steven Holcomb and Elana Meyers have byes onto the national team.

Jones was among a group of U.S. track Olympians who were invited to the bobsled team’s push championships by coach Todd Hays last month, a decision Hays said was designed for them to “share their Olympics experiences with our athletes and to help boost team morale.”

It also was a bit of a recruiting ploy. Bobsled coaches have long tried to lure athletes from the track world, noting that their combination of speed and explosiveness is perfect for sliding.

And it might be working again. Jones and Fenlator were the leaders after the first run of the competition, and Jones suddenly is finding herself in a sled that might be in contention for a World Cup team spot.

“I’m just trying to take it all in,” Jones said. “It’s a new sport for me and there’s a ton of room for improvement. … I’m coming in here trying to learn everything quickly. I’m looking forward to fixing some things and hammering it out.”

Greubel and Evans rallied in their second run, continuing a breakthrough few days for Evans. Saturday’s competition was only her third time on the ice at Mount Van Hoevenberg.

Bree Schaaf and Emily Azevedo were third in the women’s race on Saturday night, finishing in 1:57.80.

In the men’s competition, even with Holcomb having a bye, the top three sleds were separated by only 0.53 seconds, which U.S. coach Brian Shimer said is a testament to the overall depth of the program right now.

“Every single day is race day with these guys,” Cunningham said.

Skeleton team races begin on Tuesday. Bobsled races continue Friday night, with the announcement of the national team to follow.

2012 IFBB Border States Pro Bikini Competitor List & Preview

While twelve IFBB Pro Bikini competitors will be competing in Prague this weekend, another twelve will be stepping on stage half way across the world in San Diego, California. The line-up is fairly competitive and one woman will leave with a 2013 Olympia qualification and four others picking up points towards an Olympia invite. This will be Jon Lindsay’s second to last show of the year and sure to be a great one. The NPC Border State Classic is a National Qualifying event and held in conjunction with the IFBB Pro Bikini competition.

The Hardbody 411:
The odds-on favorite has to be Amanda Latona to take home top honors. She’s a seasoned veteran to the stage and if she goes back to what works for her in the past she’ll leave the winner. At the Olympia, Amanda switched up her posing and her hair. It may seem like two silly points but when you’re splitting hairs on who wins and who doesn’t the details matter. Noy Alexander has a rock’n Hardbody and while one of the shorter competitors she should match up well next to the others in this line-up. Stacey Alexander always seems to fair a bit better in California than some of the other shows. Look for her to be in the hunt for the top spots. I like the potential of Jessica Arevalo. If she brings a confident, poised presentation to the stage she could catch some other ladies sleeping and move up into the mix. Ashley LeBlanc had a solid debut in Houston and will look to be in the top spots again here. The only thing that stands out with Ashley is her hip twisting pose can often look painful as she exaggerates it to the back and twists so much. Taylor Matheny has one of the best physiques in the division and if she can come in with a flattering suit and nail her presentation, she’ll be in the mix. She’s been  hit or miss with her suits and often times her posing doesn’t flatter her physique. She’s improved but will it be enough to land in the top spots? Janelle Saitone-McGuire will compete in her second pro show and will have to really rock the individual posing presentation to get in the top call-out. She doesn’t have the muscle some of the other women have but does have a nice, classy, polished presentation. Dianna Harbort has a nice physique however it could be a challenge to hang with this line-up. She turned pro at the 2012 Team Universe with a win in the Masters Over 45 division.

2012 IFBB Border States Pro Bikini Competitor List:
Noy Alexander
Stacey Alexander
Jessica Arevalo
Tiffany Marie Boydston
Jennifer Dietrick
Maureen Doherty
Dianna Harbort
Anna Larsson
Amanda Latona
Ashley LeBlanc
Taylor Matheny
Janelle Saitone-McGuire

2012 IFBB Evl’s Prague Pro Bikini Competitor List & Preview

Twelve IFBB Pro Bikini competitors are slated to compete in the Czech Republic this weekend. This marks the first time the IFBB Pro Bikini women will have a chance to compete in Prague. The show is promoted by former bodybuilder Eva Sukupova with the help of American Media Inc. and promises to hold a first class event. This event also has some of the top prize money with $7,000 going to the winner of the Pro Bikini competition. There will also be open and 212 Men’s Bodybuilding along with the Amateur Bikini Olympia.

The Hardbody 411:
This is without a doubt the diverse competition we’ve seen in the pro league with representatives from a variety of countries. There are only three women from the United States in this event. Look for the blondes to dominate this line up and the top spots. The odds on favorite to win the show has to be Canada’s Justine Munro. She was victorious at the St. Louis Pro and was the runner-up at the Houston Pro earlier this month. Look for her to be the unanimous winner if she’s in the same condition as the Houston show. Michelle Brennan is coming off her first win and a favorite in Europe. Look for her to be in the hunt for the top spots.

My dark horse pick to shake things up is Anna Virmajoki from Finland. If she shows up like she did at the World Championships earlier this month she could be your winner. Super tiny waist and polished from head to toe. If Nikola Weiterova comes in a bit tighter in the booty she will be in the hunt for a top five spot. Noemi Olah continues to improve with each show and is coming off a runner-up spot last week at the British Grand Prix.

I like Figen Ozdemir’s look and will be put to the test in her pro debut. If she has a tight lower half she could be in the hunt. The two x-factors are Diana Graham and Talia Terese from the United States. Both women have been in the top spots but also on the outside looking in. Talia has yet to find her groove in the pro ranks since her win at the 2011 NPC USAs. Diana Graham has a bit more muscle than some of the other women in this line-up and it will come down to her conditioning in how she fairs. Gemmalyn Crosby has been up and down in the placings and is coming off a 4th place finish at the Ft. Lauderdale Cup. She’s been competing for a number of weeks and the long flight could cause some problems but if she’s able to over come those she could land in the top five again.

2012 IFBB Evl’s Prague Pro Bikini Competitor List:
Ronnie Blewitt – England
Michelle Brannan – United Kingdom
Gemmalyn Crosby – Phillipines
Diana Graham – USA
Andrea Hertlein – Germany
Justine Munro – Canada
Noemi Olah – Hungary
Figen Ozdemir  – Germany
Talia Terese – USA

2012 IFBB Ft. Lauderdale Cup Pro Bikini Results & Report

Yeshaira Robles continued her winning ways in Florida over the weekend. She notched her second pro victory in the IFBB Pro Bikini division. The first came earlier in the summer at the Sarasota Pro. While the field at the Ft. Lauderdale Cup wasn’t the deepest it was competitive. Yeshaira was the clear winner in my eyes and she beat out Lacey Deluca by one point. Lacey was in the runner-up position to Yeshaira at the Sarasota Pro show as well.

bikini fl cup review results

The win qualifies Yeshaira for the 2013 Bikini Olympia. Yeshaira is one of the few women who can be cute one minute and with the flip of her hair can turn on the sultry look. She has one of the best bikini bodies and classiest presentations in the division. If any women are new to the division, look at how Yeshaira presents herself and emulate that.

Lacey DeLuca was just one point behind Yeshaira and while she has polished presentation and some beautiful hair, I wouldn’t have her in the runner-up spot. I’d like to see her lower body come in tighter to warrant a second place finish. If she can bring in a tigher set of wheels and backside then I can see it however I would have placed a number of women higher than her this time around.

Gigi Amurao had an impressive pro debut and could be a threat for the top spot in Iowa next month. She’ll need to keep her legs down in size. She has muscular legs and as long as they stay down in size she’ll hold her own. Gemmalyn Crosby bounced back from her disappointing Houston Pro finish. I’d love to see her ditch the orange bikini as it tends to blend in too much with her physique, in my opinion. Rounding out the top five was Bianca Berry. Bianca has a great physique and if she can pose a little better, specifically not making quirky facial expressions I think she’ll continue to do well. One to keep an eye on is Monique Gantt. If she can bring her booty down in size she’ll be a contender for the top five in future shows. While many competitors are trying to build a backside she’s trying to tone it down for what works on the stage. Adriana Hill also improved her physique and presentation. I would have her in the top five here and she narrowly missed it by one point on the judges scorecards.
