Contest Results: Jamie Del Angel wins the 2015 IFBB Legends Classic Pro Bikini

 Legends Classic Pro Bikini
The first IFBB Bikini pro show is in the books and Jamie Del Angel from McAllen, Texas took home a unamious win. This was Jamie’s third IFBB pro contest and first title since she achieved pro status at the 2014 NPC USAs. Candice Chamberland from Murletta, California finish in second and fellow Californian Christie Marquez wound up third. Canada’s own Cynthia Benoit finished in fourth with Tamara Haddad rounding out the top five. The win locks Jamie in for the 2015 Olympia and the remainder of the tope five earn points towards the Olympia Point Series. The next pro contest will be the Arnold in Columbus, Ohio the first weekend of March.

Harriet Davis from North Carolina finished just outside the top five in the open division, with a six place finish but took the top spot in the 2015 IFBB Legends Classic Pro Bikini Masters’ division. The Masters division does not accumulate points towards the Olympia.

2014 IFBB Russia Pro Bikini Results

2014 Russia Pro Bikini

The IFBB Russia Pro Bikini contest, held in Moscow on November 29th, was the final pro show of the 2014 season. The pros will have a few weeks off before ramping back up for 2015. The lineup for the Russia Pro Bikini wasn’t the biggest but it was competitive. Reigning Bikini International and Bikini Olympia champion, Ashley Kaltwasser edged out Anna Starodubtseva by one point for the win. The victory put Ashley in at the top of the Bikini record books with 11 career wins. Pretty impressive given she was only been a pro for two years and was 10th at the 2013 Arnold. She was the first bikini pro to win back-to-back titles at the Olympia and will look for her second Arnold win in March.

The second place finish for Anna was her highest as a pro and will look to qualify for the Olympia next year’s shows. Coming in third was Russia’s Sofia Tandilian. Rounding out the top five was Norway’s Christina Fjaere in fourth and Stephanie Mahoe in fifth.

2014 IFBB Ferrigno Legacy Pro Results & Review

ferrigno pro show

The final show of the year is in the books. The IFBB Ferrigno Legacy Pro took place in Santa Barbara, California and featured Men and Women’s Physique, Men’s Bodybuilding and Women’s Bikini. The winners punched their ticket to the 2015 Olympia.

This was the first time the show has been promoted and it will be interesting to see if it returns next year. Fans were treated to a free, live webcast on Bodybuilding.com which is great. A free webcast for a pro show usually only happens at the Arnold and Olympia so it was a treat for fans, friends and family members to watch.

That said there were some odd choices with the show, like why it was on the day after Thanksgiving which required traveling ON the holiday. Santa Barbara isn’t exactly the easiest spot to fly into and dealing with holiday traffic is never fun. While I applaud the show promoters for wanting to “go big” it’s a mistake far too many make. You don’t have to go big to have a successful show. We’ve seen it happen a number of times and they don’t last beyond a year or two. The night show didn’t start until 8pm which seems like a huge blunder given you had all day for the event. That is until the Pro Bikini competitors took the stage and the music person decided to play the most disrespectful and vulgar lyrics I’ve ever heard. Pittbull’s “GO GIRL” and JAY-Z’s “Is that Yo Bitch?” were disrespectful music choices and the competitors deserve an apology for the offensive lyrics. A competitor is disqualified if their posing music has profanity in it, the show’s promoters and music people should be held to the same standards. There are millions of songs to choose from and there’s no need to play that during the Bikini portion, or any portion, of a show. The show ended just before midnight on the West Coast and as you can imagine everyone was exhausted.

Congratulations to all the competitors who dieted through Thanksgiving and competed in this show. The next big pro show will be the Arnold Classic next March in Columbus, Ohio.

2014 IFBB Felicia Romero Pro Results

The 2014 IFBB Felicia Romero Figure Pro was the final stop for the women in the Figure division. The next IFBB Pro Figure show will be the Figure International in Columbus, Ohio next March. The show drew a number of competitors but no “big names” which makes it interesting for those who enter as there’s no odds-on favorite heading into the show. Who could have predicted that Brasil’s Renata Guaraciaba would go from 16th place at the Kentucky Pro to winning in Arizona just one week later? Not this cat. She not only won but did so with in unamious fashion on the judges’ scorecards. Renata is now qualified to compete in the 2015 Figure Olympia. Coming in second was Brittany Campbell from Killeen, Texas and rounding out the top three was Megan Wyble from Lafayette, Louisiana. Jennifer Brown who finished in second at the Kentucky Pro slipped to seventh at this contest.

The Men’s Physique Pro was won by Rodney Razor.

Kentucky Muscle Pro

The 2014 IFBB Pro season is winding down with just a couple of shows left in each division before the holidays and the new year. The 2014 IFBB Kentucky Muscle Pro is one of those shows and it featured the women of the Figure division and the Men’s Physique pros. Kamla Macko edged out fellow Floridian Jennifer Brown by one point for the win. The victory was the first in Macko’s 2 year pro career. She’d been the bridesmaid on five different occasions but not tonight in Louisville, Kentucky. Brown’s second place finish was the highest of her pro career. Rounding out the top three was Carly Starling Horrell for Wilmington, North Carolina. Just one show remains on the IFBB Pro Figure Schedule, the Felicia Romero Classic next weekend in Arizona.

The women of the IFBB Pro Bikini division were back on stage at the 2014 IFBB Fort Lauderdale Pro Bikini competition. The women were joined on stage by the Men’s Physique pros and an amateur competition. The winner qualified for the 2015 Olympia and the second through fifth place finishers earn points towards the Olympia Point Series.

As expected, Stephanie Mahoe and Bianca Berry were in the top spots during prejudging. Stephanie took home top honors for her second pro win of the year. Coming in second, was Bianca Berry. Bianca continues to be a top contender in every show she enters. The surprise of the group, at least to me, was Catherine Radulic. She was 6th at the 2014 IFBB Pittsburgh Masters Pro Championships and 6th at the 2014 IFBB PBW Tampa Pro.

2014 Nordic Pro Results – Eubanks Wins

2014 Nordic Pro

Tawna Eubanks took home her third IFBB pro victory of the year and qualified for the 2015 Olympia in the process. Tawna won the OC Classic and Dallas Pro before finishing 8th at the 2014 Olympia. Over the weekend, she beat out a competitive field at the 2014 Nordic Pro in Lahti, Finland. Christina Strom Fjaere and Sara Back both presented physiques that would take top honors at most shows. If both of these women apply for the Bikini International they should get an invite, they’re worthy of an invite and then some. This was Sarah’s pro debut and those in attendance commented that she is one of the best competitors they’ve seen in the division. Keep an eye on her in the months ahead. Noemi Olah finished in fourth and rounding out the top five was Anna Virmajoki.

The IFBB Pro circuit continues this weekend with the 2014 Prague Pro. The competition featured Men’s Bodybuilding, Men’s 212 Bodybuilding and the Bikini division. There were no real surprises to those who follow the Bikini division with India Paulino the highest ranking competitor in the line-up taking home the win. The alleviates the stress from having to qualify for the 2015 Bikini Olympia for her. Noemi Olah jumped back into a top spot finishing in second. Moving up from her 16th place Olympia finish into third was Christina Strøm Fjære from Norway. This was just her third pro show and she’s one to keep an eye on in the future.

Flex Lewis defended his 212 title & Dennis Wolf wins the open bodybuilding. The big story in the men’s division was Kai Greene dropping out after prejudging citing undisclosed medical issues.

2014 IFBB Tahoe Pro Figure Results

Tahoe Pro Figure Results
The 2014 Tahoe Pro Figure competition was the final stop for the IFBB Pros looking to qualify for the Olympia. Thirteen women took the stage looking for the win but there could only be one. Win and you’re in the Figure Olympia. Finish in the top five and collect points towards an invite via the Olympia Point Series. Allison Frahn was the only competitor who had a lock on an Olympia spot but the remaining spots were up for grabs.

After prejudging it was apparent that Andrea Calhoun, Julie Mayer, Allison Frahn and Wendy Fortino were a lock for the top four but where would they finish? We never saw the fifth and sixth place finishers stand next to the top four and it was clear it would come down to these four women for the top spots. Fifth was significant as it helped determine the point total in the Olympia series.

Julie Mayer, Krista Dunn and Andrea Calhoun were all in a tie for 3-5 in the Point Series with Wendy Fortino in sixth. Julie Mayer was awarded first place and that took her out of the point series hunt. Coming in second was Wendy Fortino which earned her enough points to head to the Olympia. Third place went to Andrea Calhoun and locked in her spot for the Figure Olympia. Allison Frahn was already qualified and the fourth place finish earned her two more points but was it a risky move entering the show? It was definitely a roll of the dice. Win the show and you have momentum going into the Olympia but a fourth place finish definitely wasn’t what she had hoped for. She’ll have her work cut out for her to get in the top ten conversation come Olympia time. Rounding out the top five and earning a spot in the Olympia line up was Krista Dunn. She’s competed a number of times and has been up and down in her placings throughout the year. She can breathe a sigh of relief now that she’s qualified for the Olympia in Las Vegas.

2014 IFBB Tahoe Pro Figure Results (score is after the name)
1. Julie Mayer – 3
2. Wendy Fortino – 6
3. Andrea Calhoun – 10
4. Allison Frahn – 11

Next stop… the Figure Olympia. The IFBB Border States in October will be the next open event for the Figure pros.

2014 IFBB St. Louis Pro Bikini Results

st louis pro
The last opportunity to qualify for the Bikini Olympia went through St. Louis, Missouri on August 23rd. The final IFBB Pro Bikini in the competition calendar year (Olympia to Olympia) proved to be one of the more interesting ones simply based on the Point Series. Win and you’re in the Olympia Finish in the top 5 and collect points. The top five highest points at the end of the season are granted an invite to the Olympia.

Brittany Taylor and Justine Munro were compared side by side a number of times and the winner was in the Olympia and second place stay home. This was Justine’s best look to date but wasn’t quite sharp enough to hold off rookie Brittany Taylor. Brittany took top honors and in doing so punched her ticket to the Olympia. She was the 2014 Overall NPC Jr. Nationals Bikini Winner in June and this is her first pro win. Munro came up short in the point series and fans of the Canadian will have to wait another year as she will not be competing in this year’s Olympia. Coming in third was California’s Candice Conroy. The third place finish launched her into fourth place in the point series and she is officially in the big show. Fourth place went to Bianca Berry who come on strong in the final three shows after some time away from competition. She came up just short in the point series but will be one to watch in the shows after the Olympia. Definitely one who you could see on the Olympia stage in 2015. The fifth and final spot went to Noemi Olah. The placing earned her one point which ties her for the fifth and final point series spot with Nicola Weiterova.

Despite placing sixth in the show, Jessica Arevalo will head to the Olympia on points. A questionable move as to why she competed was she was already in the Olympia on points and the finish here does little for her momentum heading into the Olympia.

2014 IFBB St. Louis Pro Bikini Results (score behind the name)
1. Brittany Taylor – 3
2. Justine Munro – 6
3. Candice Conroy – 9
4. Bianca Berry – 12
5. Noemi Olah – 15
6. Jessica Arevalo – 18
7. Caryn Paolini – 21

10. Janet Harding – 20
11. Svetlana Eregina – 33
12. Shawn Hecktor-Lewis – 36
13. Yanya Rachan – 39

Next up for the IFBB Bikini Pros is the 50th Olympia on September 18-21, 2014. After that is the Korean Pro and the Prague Pro. The next stateside Pro Bikini show will be the Ft. Lauderdale Cup on October 18th.

2014 Dallas Pro Results

Another IFBB Pro show is in the books and we’re one weekend closer to the 50th Olympia in Las Vegas, Nevada. Today in Dallas, Texas the bikini pros were on stage in hopes of qualifying for the big show next month. Lacey DeLuca and Tawna Eubanks had the pressure off them as both were qualified for the Olympia. The rest of the field was looking for the win or a high enough finish to earn points in the Olympia Point Series. Only the top five earn points towards the series. The five competitors with the highest points after the last qualifying show receive a spot in the Olympia lineup. Ever year it’s tight race and comes down the final show to see who gets in. This year is no different. There’s only one pro show left for the bikini competitors to qualify and this was the final opportunity for the Men’s Physique competitors.

Tawna Eubanks won her second pro show in a row and this one has to be even a little sweeter in her own backyard of Dallas, Texas. The field was a bit more competitive here than her last showing and she carries some momentum into the Olympia next month.

Karin Hobbs doubled down and it paid off at the 2014 IFBB Golden State Championships held in Sacramento, California. Karin won not only the open Pro Women’s Physique competition but also the Master’s Pro Women’s Physique competition. The Boise resident was the unanimous winner on the scorecards and has a spot in the Olympia showdown next month in Vegas. Coming in second was Jillian Reville. Jillian returned to the stage for the first time since having heart surgery last year. Rounding out the top three was Colorado’s Heather Grace. Heather edged out Akane Nigro-Ismeal by one point. Another Olympia qualifying show is in the books and another competitor will head to Vegas for the big show. Stephanie Mahoe unanimously won the Bikini Pro portion of the Prestige Crystal Cup. The win was her first in the pro ranks. Stephanie was leading the Olympia Point Series heading into this show but the win secures her spot in the Olympia line up this September. Lacey DeLuca came in second and was already qualified for the Olympia. Noemi Olah finished in third, just two points behind Lacey. She collects points towards the Olympia but still sits on the outside of the top five points. Michelle Lewin finished in fourth and rounding out the top five was Dayna Maleton. One point separated Maleton and Lewin for fourth and fifth.

2014 IFBB Tournament of Champions Pro Figure Results

ifbb tournament of champions

Oh what a difference a year makes. Last year, Karin Grau was 13th at the Tournament of Champions Pro Figure, her IFBB pro debut. Since then, Karina has tried to move her way up in the Pro figure ranks. She kicked the 2014 season with a 14th place finish at the Figure International in Columbus, Ohio. She went on to crack the top ten with a ninth place finish at the Pittsburgh Pro. Karina has shown improvements to her physique since last year’s debut and they proved to be enough one year later. The 2014 Tournament of Champions victory marks her first IFBB pro win and earns her a ticket to the Figure Olympia. Karina is originally from Prague and achieved IFBB pro status by winning the 2013 Arnold Amateur Brazil.

Coming in second and moving her way up in the Olympia point series was Sasha Brown. Sasha had 8 points heading into this show and in fourth. Tonight’s second place finish puts her in second place with 12 points. There are just two pro shows remaining and while not a guarantee she does looked poised for an Olympia qualification via the point series.  Julie Mayer’s third place finish gave her three points towards the Olympia point series. This puts here in a three-way tie for third place in the Olympia Point Series. There are still two more pro Figure shows to go so anything could happen. Latorya Watts finished in fourth and picks up 2 points towards the Olympia Series. She moves up in the standings but still have an uphill battle to get in. Currently 10 is the magic number to get in via the point series and she has five. Jessica Canty rounds out the top five and snags one point towards her Series total.  She currently has four points and will have a tough time getting in via the points unless she finishes in the top spots in the final two Pro Figure shows before the Olympia.

The 2014 IFBB Wings of Strength Chicago Pro show was one of the few remaining events left on the schedule before the Olympia. Over 100 men and women competed but only the winner of each division would punch their ticket to the big dance this September. There were a few expected finishes mixed in with a few surprises.

Fiona Harris took the top spot in not only the physique round but also the routine round. This is without question her best showing as a pro. Typically Fiona doesn’t fair as well in the routine rounds so for her to take the win in both rounds is a huge improvement. Coming second, was Fiona’s Canadian counterpart Daniell Ruban. Danielle had to play catch up going into the routine round. After the 2-piece score she was in 6th. The judges placed her routine in second and it launched her into the runner-up position. Darrian Tissenbaum did not finish due to an illness before the routine round which left her unable to perform.

Rita Bello took the top spot in women’s bodybuilding and Leila Thompson in women’s physique. The win qualifies them for the Olympia. In the Figure division, we saw rising star Cydney Gillon shine her brightest yet. The 21-year old track star has huge potential as was evident in Chicago. Coming in a close second was Wendy Fortino. Wendy started out a bit sluggish this year but has found the right look and continues to improve.

Welcome to The Next Level – 2014 NPC Universe Results

2014 UNIVERSE

The IFBB Pro League added a few more women to their roster tonight in Teaneck, New Jersey, The 2014 NPC Universe (formerly Team Universe) competition includes bikini, fitness, figure, men and women’s physique and men’s bodybuilding. Women’s bodybuilding was dropped from the event due to the lackluster turn out in previous years.

The fitness division is the most challenging for competitors to prepare for but the most entertaining division to watch. Sadly, the division continues to struggle with the number of entrants. Years ago there were only two options for women to compete in… bodybuilding or fitness. The Figure division was added, then came bikini and most recently physique. It’s easier This weekend’s NPC fitness event is the officially known as the NPC Fitness Nationals and held in conjunction with the NPC Universe competition. The top two in each fitness class graduate to the new level of competition. We’ll have to wait and see if anyone in this class can shake things up in the pro league.

Tamee Marie continued her winning ways in Louisiana tonight by taking top honors at the Greater Gulf pro. This is the second time Tamee has won this show and it’s her second victory this month. The win is her fourth title since making the switch from Figure to the Women’s Physique division. She beat out a competitive field and positions herself as one to watch at the Olympia this September.

The first annual IFBB Amateur Olympia Latin America was held in Acapulco, Mexico on June 14-15, 2014. The overall winners in all divisions earn IFBB Pro status and bragging rights as the first ever Latin America Amateur Olympia Champion.

Amateur Olympia Latin America Results

Elia Fernandez from Mexico Yucatan won the short bikini class and took the top spot in the overall comparisons. It came down to a tie-breaker for the win. Romina Basualdo from Argentina tied with Elia in the overall comparisons. Jovanna Ibanez Parra from Mexico won the short Bodyfitness (Figure) division and the overall title. Raquel Ramos from Spain left with the top spot in the Women’s Physique division.

Competitors don’t have to win the competition to get noticed in events like this. Media members from all over the world were in attendance and took notice of some of the up-and-coming faces. The IFBB amateur events are run a bit different than those at NPC competitions. There is no individual posing in prejudging, only comparisons. At the Finals, the field is cut to the top six in each class and only those competitors hit individual poses. The women’s physique division is still in its infancy outside of the USA, as evident with only four competitors. The bikini division had a variety of shapes and sizes on stage and a number of head turning physiques.
