2012 NPC JR USA Preview

This weekend over 400 men and women will take the stage at the NPC JR USAs in Charleston, South Carolina. Promoter Tres Bennett has a great venue locked in just minutes from the airport. The area near the venue and host hotel continues to be developed, which is music to competitor’s ears. Why? Restaurants after the show of course. This show played host to the first crowning of the Bikini division and last year the Men and Women’s Physique divisions. There are no new divisions this year but there will be a record number of competitor. Last year we saw around 300 competitors on stage, this year that number has jumped to nearly 450.

The NPC JR USA is typically a show where competitor get their feet wet on the National scene. That still holds true for men’s bodybuilding as there is no pro card awarded however the same can’t be said for the women’s events. The women will once again dominate the show and the Figure division continues to lead the way with 122 entrants. The Bikini division will also showcase over 100 women and look for each class to be competitive.

The UNOFFICIAL competitor breakdown by division… This number won’t be final until check-ins are complete on Friday night and there are no breakdowns by height/weight until check-ins are finished. Final OFFICIAL numbers will be available on Saturday morning.

Figure – 122
Bikini – 102
Women’s Physique – 42
Fitness – 20

George Likes His Chicken Spicy and NPC Bodybuilding & Bikini?

If you attended the NPC Los Angeles Championships and are SEINFELD fans, you were in for a treat. Jason Alexander, famously known for his role as George Costanza on the hit show, was in attendance. I’m told he was there in support of a trainer friend of his. I’m a little bummed I wasn’t there as he seems like a pretty cool guy and I’m sure he’s annoyed to death with the George references. I still would have asked him if he likes his chicken spicy though.

Ron Avidan snapped the lead shot at the show and I’m not sure if the actor was approving or not. Regardless, you never know who might show up at a NPC bodybuilding, fitness, bikini and figure event.

2011 NPC USA – Over 600 Hard Body Competitors Head to Vegas

History will be made in Las Vegas, Nevada this weekend. The largest NPC competition EVER will take place on July 29 and 30th at Artemus W. Ham Concert Hall. No, I don’t know how the divisions will break down and how many are in each. 🙂 Promoter Jon Lindsay has always done a terrific job with this event and this year looks to be no different. If you don’t have your show tickets you better get them now because this will be a packed house!

New this year is the men and women’s physique divisions. The divisions continue to grow in numbers and the competition gets stronger with each event. Thanks to J.M. Manion for sharing this update… There will be THREE height classes for each division.

For Men’s & Women’s Physique we will have 3 height classes for each division.

Around The NPC This Weekend

This weekend is one of the busiest of the year in the competitive world. There are NPC shows taking place all across the country. IFBB Fitness Pro Tracey Greenwood has her Tracey Greenwood Classic in Philly. Lonnie Teper’s NPC West Coast Classic has a record number of entrants. Adela Garcia is holding her first NPC event with a strong showing. There’s a big show in The Big Easy where NPC Texas District Chairman Lee Thompson will be head judging. Venture west a bit from Louisiana and you’ll find the Flex Lewis Classic, where top bodybuilder Flex Lewis hold his own show. Tim Gardner has a great NPC show attached to the Pro Bodybuilding Weekly IFBB Tampa Pro show in Tampa.

WHEW! I’m sure I missed some of the shows but check out NPCNEWSonline.com for a complete list of NPC shows taking place in your area.

The Swami’s NPC West Coast Classic

Lonnie “The Swami” Teper has another stellar NPC event on tap this weekend in El Monte, California. LT is a passionate guy who puts his all into everything he does and this show is no different. This weekend the NPC West Coast Classic has a record number of competitors signed up to compete and The Big Beef, Mr. Olympia Jay Cutler will be the featured guest poser.

The Swami reports on his IRON MAN blog, “as of 9:30 am, there were 156 (90 men, 66 women) competitors registered for the 2011 NPC BMR West Coast Classic.” The athlete’s meeting starts at 8am with the prejudging beginning at 11am.

LT also shared that the 2004 FHM “Model of the Year”, Vida Guerra will make her NPC debut in the bikini division. Vida is a stunner and should rock the bikini stage with ease. This is a great contest and one of the few where competitors are gauranteed to appear in a magazine. IRON MAN will feature all of the overall winners in an upcoming issue. Good luck to every one competing.

You can purchase tickets to see Vida and all the hardbodies compete by visiting www.npcwestcoast.com. Tell Lonnie Hardbody sent ya and he might buy you lunch. 🙂

Adela Garcia From Competitor to Promoter

This weekend 5x Fitness Olympia Champion Adela Garcia will put her fitness routine aside and wear her promotion cap for the first time. Adela has found success on the fitness stage over the years and now she will venture into the world of contest promotion. It’s not an easy road to travel but the high flying IFBB pro has shown that if you put your mind to something anything is possible.

The event takes place at Henderickson High School – Jerrell Moor Performing Arts Center in Pflugerville, Texas this Saturday, June 25th. Check out AdelaGarciaClassic.com for complete details.

NPC Jr. Nationals in Chicago Information

The 2011 NPC JR Nationals kicked off last night when hundreds of competitors checked in at the Hyatt Regency O’Hare airport in Rosemont, Illinois. It’s always fun to watch the business professionals giving strange looks at the tanned hard bodies at the hotel.

Tonight, the women will take the stage in Fabulous Female Friday. The Figure and Bikini will dominate the show once again but Women’s Physique is on the rise. The numbers continue to be strong in the new division while the female bodybuilding numbers are shrinking. Fitness numbers are also low but there should be at least five women in each of the three classes. Follow our coverage here on Hardbody.com or on twitter.com/hardbodynews. If you’re tweeting use #npcjrNats for your hashtag.

We’ll be updating our Facebook Fan Page with coverage as well throughout the weekend. You never know what could happen.Yesterday, Bikini competitor Lisa Lutz and her mom were trapped in an elevator during a photo shoot. 2011 NPC JR USA – Who Will Make History?

The National Level NPC season officially kicks off this weekend in Charleston, South Carolina. The show moves back to the East Coast and earlier in the year after a trial run in Houston, Texas last year. Most people agree that this is the right place and time to start the season. This year’s show will be one for the history books as the new Women’s Physique division will be introduced. It could be a sign of the times as 48 women have registered to compete in this new division and two of them will be awarded IFBB Pro status. There are only 7 women registered for female bodybuilding at this show. Sure, there aren’t pro cards awarded at this show for the female bodybuilders but that is a huge difference in entrants. Sadly there are only 8 fitness competitors registered and one of them will be awarded IFBB Pro status. It leaves many people wondering is this the end of Fitness? We’ll discuss that at another time but it certainly could be if more women don’t enter the upcoming shows.

The Figure division continues to be the largest, followed by bikini. Despite what some people think, Figure entrants have not decreased with the inception of the Bikini division. Two pro cards will be awarded in each division. The women will dominate this show with over 240 total hardbody ladies taking the stage. There will be 102 women in Figure and 76 women are entered in the Bikini division.

This show also introduces the new Men’s Physique division, which has been popular and continues to grow. Two men will be awarded IFBB pro status on Saturday night. Bob Chic will be the emcee of the evening and Tracey Greenwood will be making sure everything runs smoothly with the expediting duties. Promoters Shannon and Tres always take great care of the competitors and you can count on a first class production once again. There is a new host hotel, so please take note of that on the schedule below.

I, Isaac, will be the official NPC Photographer for the event. If you’d like to order a CD of individual competitor photos you may do so by downloading the PDF order form here. If you give this to me before the end of the weekend you will save some coin. Money Mark Mason will be handling the video for this show and if you’re interested in a DVD of the event, you can download his form here.

There are grocery stores and restaurants nearby the venue and host hotel. If you’re looking for a gym check out Pivotal Fitness. They will be letting anyone with a current NPC card train free. Maps are available at the host hotel.

We’ll be reporting live all weekend from Charleston so be sure to follow along on twitter @hardbodynews and on our facebook fan page. See ya in Charleston!
