IFBB North American BB & Figure Championships – Competitor Lists

The list is a bit too long for me to post here but you can check it out here. It appears a number of women will make the trip to Cleveland for Dr. Gary Eudit’s show. I’ll be attending this event for the first time and looking forward to visiting a new city. I’ve heard nothing but great things about this show. If you’d like more information on the show details, visit garydudit.com.

Shannon Meteraud out of Europa Super show…

Fitness that is. Shannon sustained a knee injury about a week ago and has been trying to let it heal. She had hoped to topple Tracey Greenwood this weekend but it wasn’t meant to be. Shannon will instead compete in the Figure competition where she was the winner last year. Yes, Shannon will now be defending her figure title in Dallas. Rumor has it Greenwood has a few voodoo dolls that she is taking out her Olympia competition one by one – no truth to it of course. When asked Shannon how it felt she told me, “it sucks”. She was given the go-ahead to compete in the figure competition late last night from Chairman of the IFBB Pro League, Jim Manion. Shannon will look to qualify in figure this weekend and if she does she’ll have the luxury of doing fitness or figure at the Olympia. The only competitor who has qualified in tomorrow’s lineup, to date, is Paola Almerico. Stay tuned for more info from Dallas throughout the weekend.

Jen Hendershott heads to Dallas

No, she won’t be competing this weekend however fans of Jen Hendershott can meet her this weekend at the Isatori booth. Jen will be on hand for the Europa Super show to not only work but will be on the receiving end of an award. If you’re interested in meeting one of the top IFBB fitness pros in the biz you can find her at the expo on Saturday.

Europa Fitness/Figure about to get Interesting

There is going to be a major shake up in the fitness and figure competition at this weekend’s Europa Super Show. Stay tuned for complete details in the morning. 🙂

Europa Super Show – IFBB Fitness

There will be another IFBB fitness showdown this weekend. At last count 19 pros will take the stage at the 2008 Europa Super show to battle it out in the fitness division. Three women will return to the Texas stage who found success a few weeks ago. Tracey Greenwood, Shannon Meteraud and Erin Riley went 1-2-3 at the Houston Pro Fitness show. Can they repeat or will someone else spoil their plans? Shannon has found success at the Europa show in the past. Last year she won the figure title and is seeking revenge on the loss Tracey handed her in Houston. Will Dr. Greenwood buckle under pressure with her fellow stooge nipping at her heels? We’ll have to wait a couple more days before we know for sure. If the top three placings are already qualified for the Olympia, the fourth place finisher could find themselves with an invite to the Olympia.

Who do you think will be the Europa Super Show champ? Anyone going to shock and awe the crowd with their performance?

HardBody Photo of the Day: Air Wickham

Last year’s Europa Super show had a number of high flying fitness athletes. One of the highest was Canada’s own Sandra “air” Wickham. Her routine has more leaps and bounds than Superman. Routines like this are hella fun to photograph. It’s a bit of a contest amongst photographers in the pit to see who can capture these images at the right time without cropping their heads or legs off. Sandra took some time off from the stage and it should serve her well this weekend.

Another Bun in the Oven

This morning Rick Lohre informed me that there was yet another IFBB Pro expecting a child. No, Julie (his wife) isn’t pregnant but a fellow fitness competitor in the pro ranks is. Kendra Elias is currently 14 weeks pregnant and enjoying some time away from the stage. I’m told she plans to compete again next year after and will return late in the season. We wish Kendra and her husband Michael all the best with the pregnancy.

Hair & Makeup this weekend

Hardbody.com approved make up artist, Laurie St. Michael will be in Dallas for the Europa Super Show this weekend doing hair and makeup. If you’re competing and looking for someone who is top notch, she’s your girl. When I spoke to Laurie today she told me she had a couple opening left for the show. Laurie’s worked with many of the top pros and is one of the most accommodating people you will find. She recently worked with Amy Lee Martin and Rachel Cammon on their hair and make up at the NPC USAs, where they both turned pro.

If you’re interested in Laurie’s services EMAIL HER HERE and tell her HARDBODY sent ya.

Adela Garcia Get Well Wall

Ms. Fitness Olympia, Adela Garcia made it through her knee surgery this morning and is doing well. Adela went into surgery this morning and is already home with a  large brace on her leg. When I spoke to Adela yesterday she was nervous for the surgery but happy to be getting it behind her. She tells me she’ll be on crutches for a few days but will be back. “Don’t count this chica out,” Adela reminded me.

Those of you attending the 2008 Europa Super show this weekend can stop by the GNC booth where Adela will be working.

Adela is a loyal HARDBODY.com reader and appreciates all the love and support of the community. Let’s show her a little love and post your comments here.

HardBody Photo of the Day: Oksana Grishina Routine

At last year’s Europa Super show we saw the emergence of a bright new star, Oksana Grishina. Her routine was unlike anything the IFBB had ever seen before. Will there be a new standout this year? Could a fitness competitor come out of no where and challenge Tracey Greenwood and Shannon Meteraud for the one/two spots? We’ll see in a few short days.

2008 Summer Olympics

I ran across some of the most compelling images today from the 2008 Summer Olympics. These are the type of photographs that inspire me to be a better photographer and realize just how powerful capturing the right image can be. Check out larger versions and several more of these type of photos on the Boston Globe Picture page.

Beijing Mascot Magnet YingYing

There are some pretty cool little magnets and other characters available on the NBC store. It’s great to see less cheesy stuff being put out for memorabilia. Check out this lil’ Beijing YingYing Mascot Magnet. “As an official Olympic mascot representing the yellow Olympic ring, Ying Ying is fast and agile and can swiftly cover great stretches of land as he races across the earth. A symbol of the vastness of China’s landscape, YingYing, the antelope, carries the blessing of health, the strength of body that comes from harmony with nature. Quick-witted and agile, YingYing is strong in track and field events.”
Are you a fan of the Summer Olympics? I find myself watching it often and NBC is doing a great job of telling the athlete stories and drawing people in to watch these incredible competitors.

Peanut Butter Freaks

If you’ve competed then chances are you’re a fan of natural peanut butter. It seems to be the one healthy “cheat” that every competitor consumes in some fashion during a contest. It is also the one guilty pleasure that you can go overboard on. I’ve competed twice and each time I was allotted 1-2 tablespoons a day but I ended up hiding the natural peanut butter from myself. It seemed once I was done licking the spoon clean I wanted more so I had to put it away from view when opening the fridge.

I’m not sure of the sugar content or nutritional facts in P.B. Loco’s line of peanut butter but it might be worth checking out during your off-season for a little twist the the PB. How can you go wrong with a brand called, P.B. Loco? Peanut Butter with Chocolate-Chip Cookie Dough, with Raspberry White Chocolate and more. If you’ve tried these let us know if they are any good.

How often do you visit?

I received a few emails and text messages over the weekend asking why I haven’t updated the site in two days. Short answer… I was out of town and well simply didn’t feel like blogging about figure and fitness for a couple days. 🙂

Most of us have various sites that we visit every day and it’s usually because there is always something new when we visit. When things haven’t been updated it raises question. Everything is groovy here in hardbody.com land and no need to worry.

Every show I am at people tell me they visit the site and thank me for featuring the women. Some tell me they check it more than once a day. I appreciate the feedback and visiting the site. If this is your first time visiting, welcome. I hope to see more of you in the future. Enjoy your day hardbodies!

Paola Almerico set to competing in Dallas

I heard from IFBB Pro Figure competitor Paola Almerico this weekend and she informed me that she will be making the trip to Dallas this week. Paola decided to compete in the Europa Super show this weekend and tells me she is looking forward to stepping on stage. She placed fifth at the Houston Pro and with a little more prep this time around is looking to improve upon that showing. She’s definitely a threat to the top three in this show. We’ll see how many others are added to the list before the dust settles in Texas.

I love my abdominals… I love my belly…

I checked into my hotel and had trouble sleeping so I turned on TV. It may have been because of the 4 Diet Cokes (still waiting for mine Mr. Lindsay). Any whoo, you have to love the marketing that runs around 1am. I’d see this commercial before but as I flipped around the tube it was on every other channel. The commercial was of course aimed at people who are up late and probably emotionally eating for some reason and feeling bad about themselves.

The people behind the Bender Ball start the commercial off by flashing text up… “Listen to these results”. The very first line a woman uncomfortably says, “I love my abdominals. Yes, I love my belly. I love my abdominals.” Huh? Any one I know who refers to their midsection as a belly is not usually happy in doing so. Unless your that jolly fat man who delivers presents from the North Pole. Who says they love their abdominals? Maybe I love my abs, maybe.

This infomercial is a real hoot. It wouldn’t be so bad if they ditched the lady with the horny husband and the belly loving woman at the start. Random. I know. Enjoy.

Thursday Thoughts…

Every once in awhile we need reminders. I posted a reminder about fears yesterday and today I had another reminder to share. I read a variety of books and magazines, usually while sweating my arse off on the gauntlet. Yes, I am one of those who believes you can do cardio and read. Some don’t but that’s a conversation for another time. This morning I dusted off an old book that I think is worth reading or at least skimming over every few months. The basic principles in this book are something I think we should all try to remember. I know I needed the reminder this week. I’m sure many of you have read the book and for those of you who haven’t, it’s worth the time.

fouragreements.jpg

The book is by Don Miguel Ruiz entitled, The Four Agreements: A Practical Guide to Personal Freedom, A Toltec Wisdom Book. It talks about 4 basic agreements we should try to have with ourselves.

1. Be Impeccable With Your Word
Speak with integrity. Say only what you mean. Avoid using the word to speak against yourself or to gossip about others. Use the power of your word in the direction of truth and love.

2. Don’t Take Anything Personally
Nothing others do is because of you. What others say and do is a projection of their own reality, their own dream. When you are immune to the opinions and actions of others, you won’t be the victim of needless suffering.

3. Don’t Make Assumptions
Find the courage to ask questions and to express what you really want. Communicate with others as clearly as you can to avoid misunderstandings, sadness and drama. With just this one agreement, you can completely transform your life.

4. Always Do Your Best
Your best is going to change from moment to moment; it will be different when you are healthy as opposed to sick. Under any circumstance, simply do your best, and you will avoid self-judgment, self-abuse and regret.

HardBody Photo of the Day: Kristin Nunn

She’s gone from out of the top ten at the NPC JR USA in April to an IFBB Pro in July. It’s a reminder that anything can happen over the course of a few months. I interviewed Kristin back in May after seeing her at the JR USA, if you missed our profile check it out here. She put in the hard work and was rewarded at last month’s USA Figure competition.

I had a chance to shoot with Kristin in Las Vegas after her win. Pressed for time before she boarded a plane back to Florida we shot for about 30 minutes and captured a few solid images. Laurie St. Michael did an awesome job on her make up and hair for this shoot. Looking at the photos I’m reminded of the importance of good hair and makeup for a photo shoot. Here’s one of our shots from the day.

Figure Two Piece on IFBBpro.com

Props to Tony Blinn who continues to promote the female competitors on IFBBpro.com. There is now a figure 2-piece feature from the Jacksonvillle Pro. Check out the gallery and see the variety of physiques that took the stage last weekend.

IFBB Pro Teresa Anthony Olympia Bound

Teresa is normally in Bermuda around this time of year kicking back enjoying herself in the sun. This year is a bit different for her though. Instead enjoying a fruity drinky with an umbrella in it she’s downing another protein shake. Teresa is in full prep for her Olympia debut and she can’t wait. She qualified at the Pittsburgh Pro and has continued to work on her physique since then. Teresa will join many other beautiful women on stage next month and will have her work cut out for her if she hopes to make the top 6. Can you she do it? Absolutely and we’ll see her on stage in a few weeks.

Don’t let the past dictate the future

My random thoughts for the day…

Many times my cardio is my chance to zone out and clear my head. I’m often doing cardio on the “gauntlet” or bike. The other day I took a spin class for the first time in about 7 years and it was great. I was got my sweat on like I was in the fires of hell. Last night I went for a run as the sun was setting and the temperature cooled down. As I watched a storm roll over the rocky mountains I thought about a number of things. One of which is the importance of letting go. I not only let my mind go (shocker you thought it was already gone huh) but also reminded myself to let go of things that are in the past. You can’t change them. You can only learn and grow from them in the future. All too often we’re afraid to let go. Many times that fear comes from our past.

Today I ran across this quote from recently retired Denver Bronco wide-receiver Rod Smith,”Don’t let the past dictate the future”. I thought it was perfect for what I had contemplated on my run last night.

Whether it’s a relationship, friendship, an argument, your parents, a placing or anything that may have happened to you… don’t miss out on something great because of fears from your past. We’ve all been hurt in one way or another but should it stop us from greatness in the future? I say no.

Trust your gut and don’t over think things. Living in fear and holding onto the past may prevent you from something or someone great in the future.

HardBody Photo of the Day: Desha Rodriquez

Desha Rodriquez won the NPC USA figure A class in 2007 but has yet to make her pro debut. Will we see her on stage this year? Maybe. When I caught up with lil’ D she told me she’s been super busy with family and work. She has a degree in teaching children with special needs and currently works with young children at a university. Despite her busy schedule of work and being a mom, she assured me that she has still been training and feels great. You can usually catch Desha working the GNC booth at the big shows or at local Florida events.

NPC F Class Hotties Wallpaper of the week

You may have seen this shot here but it’s now going across the globe. Bodybuilding.com has made the top three in the F Class their “wallpaper of the week“. Rachel Cammon beat out fellow hotties Monique Minton and Alicia Marie for the win and a pro card but that didn’t stop them from having some fun. Ron Avidan snapped the shot of them as they finished the two piece round of judging. It’s great to see the women having some fun backstage. The hard work is done at that point, all you can do is your best and have a lil fun amongst the madness. These ladies show it is possible. Download your wallpaper here.

IFBB Prof Figure competitor Meriza DeGuzman check in as she prepares for the IFBB Europa Super show next weekend. Meriza will be headed to Dallas with a couple pounds lighter and tighter. Watch for her to be a bit more refined at this show than at her Cal Pro showing in May.

More surfaces surround Amanda Savell’s death

Amanda Savell was found shot to death in June, now we’re learning more of what happened as police release more information. Two stories make note that David Jacobs had steroids in his system. Plano police have said that the results are still pending for gunshot residue, which would determine if Amanda fired a weapon. The results could take months.
