Ronda Rousey is ‘femininely badass as f*ck’

Ronda Rousey Rio

UFC Champion Ronda Rousey puts her Bantamweight title on the line this Saturday in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil against Bethe Correia. If you’ve followed Ronda for any amount of time you know the hardbody champion is never short on giving people something to talk about. She unapologetically speaks her mind and consistently provides writes with headlines on a silver platter.

In the second episode of UFC 190 EMBEDDED we’re treated to a perfect example of this. It’s 10:45pm and Ronda is all business. She’s doing cardio on an elliptical machine. Her headphones are on, hands are wrapped and she’s working up a sweat. She’s not talking or texting…she’s focused.

After cardio and a training session, Ronda discusses her body and the type of woman she isn’t. She’s not a ‘do-nothing bitch’ and she find her body to be ‘femininely badass as f*ck’. What? Watch around the 6:10 minute mark for some of the best of Ronda yet…

“Being put in the position of being like a role model, I don’t think I’m infallible enough for that. I have this one term for the kind of woman that my mother raised me to not be. And I call it a ‘do nothing bitch.’ Or I call it a DNB a lot of the time. The kind of chick that just like just tries to be pretty and get taken care of by somebody else. That’s why I think it’s hilarious like or if people like say my body looks masculine or something like that. I’m just like, ‘listen, I’m like, just because my body was developed for a purpose other than fucking millionaires, doesn’t mean it’s masculine.’ I think it’s femininely badass as fuck because there’s not a single muscle in my body that isn’t for a purpose. Because I’m not a do-nothing bitch. It’s not very eloquently said but it’s to the point and maybe that’s just what I am. You know, I’m not that eloquent but I’m to the point.”

Be like Rhonda. Don’t be a #DNB. Be femininely badass.

The ‘Perfect’ Body – Video by Casey Ho

Cassey Ho - Perfect Body
Cassey Ho, creator of Blogilates, has posted a Youtube video that will force you to think about yourself, your thoughts, comments and actions. The video has over 2 million views since it was posted one week ago. The “Perfect” Body makes quite a statement in two minutes. Casey is fit and toned but finds herself second guessing her body after reading negative social media comments. How often have you received 100 positive comments but then one negative one will stick with you? It’s likely happened to you at some point.

The video is extremely well done and worth watching.

It’s a reminder that we’re all human. We have feelings and no matter how strong we look and how hard out bodies may be, negativity can mess with your mindset. It’s a perfect reminder than being a Hardbody means more than just looking like one. Don’t let your self-worth be defined by how ripped your abs are or how round your butt is. No one is perfect and while there’s something we’d all like to change about ourselves don’t let derail you from becoming stronger and healthier… from the inside out.

Five Circuit Training Workouts from Hannah Teter

Hannah Teter Workouts
Doing the same workout routine every week can get boring and mundane. We’ve all been there at some point. It doesn’t matter if you’re a seasoned pro or a rookie to the training game, it happens. You can help combat boring workouts by trying something new. Seems like an obvious way to mix things up, right? Totally. While perusing Facebook I ran across an insanely awesome workouts by professional snowboarder Hannah Teter. Hannah has been going full beast mode with her workouts lately and she’s kind of a bad ass. Scratch that. She IS TOTALLY bad ass.

The two-time Olympic medalist (2006 Gold & 2010 Silver) in snowboarding halfpipe shares a few examples of her circuit training on social media and they’re impressive. Don’t worry, you don’t have to be an Olympic or X-Games (ya she’s won seven of those as well) medalist to try these workouts. I’m confident you’ll find something new to try in one of these Hannah Teter workouts & it’ll help you avoid training boredom.

Follow Hannah on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and be sure to check out her website at hannahsgold.com.

Better Than Yesterday – Crossfit & Reebok Partnership

better than yesterdayWhile we prefer “Stronger Than Yesterday” but Reebok’s “Better Than Yesterday” technically could make you stronger.  Reebok and Crossfit have partnered to make their products better each year. Their commitment to excellence is demonstrated in the video below.  Check em out if you haven’t already.

“In CrossFit we’ve found a community that embodies our beliefs and shares our passion. Since 2010 we’ve been stronger together: a collective tribe with a shared vision and a relentless goal…to make better humans, to make better products, to constantly evolve the fitness landscape.

Through sweat, testing, re-designing, re-testing, and more sweat we built the Nano training shoe. Every year we keep improving it because humans are getting stronger every day. The sport is getting tougher every day. Bests are being broken and limits are being destroyed. Everyday.

UFC Champ Ronda Rousey on The View

ronda rousey the view
The Women’s UFC Bantamweight champion, Ronda Rousey stopped by ABC’s The View. We learn Rosie Perez is a huge Rousey fan and the rest of the hosts are pretty clueless when it comes to Ronda’s accomplishments. Thankfully they had note cards to help them out. When asked about her next fight Ronda channels her inner Jay-Z and shared, “I have 99 problems but a Bethe ain’t one” referring to her opponent Bethe Correia.

The champ then has some fun with the show’s warm-up comedian, Tom Kelly. It goes about as well as you might expect.

After going on the show Ronda shared a couple clips with her fans.

Broken Escalators… Reebok to the Rescue

reebok broken subway
Reebok took to the streets or in this case the subway to lend a helping hand. When the escalators in a Stockholm subway broke down, Reebok was there to help. As part of their new campaign encouraging people to “be more human” Reebok enlisted the help from local Crossfit athletes to do some heavy lifting. The athletes helped carry pets, children and even people up the escalators.

While I’m not so sure I need some one hoisting me over their shoulder and carrying me up the stairs, it’s a feel good gesture which coincides with being more human.

Broken Escalators… Reebok to the Rescue

There’s an escalator meltdown in the Stockholm subway, forcing people to walk. Sometimes up to 180 steps. Which is easier said than done at 8:30 in the morning. On Friday the 20th of February we decided to help men and women up the escalators together with our friends from @f4lcrossfit. #BeMoreHuman

Weight Watchers: My Butt

My Butt Weight Watchers
It’s common to see weight-loss companies ramp up their advertising and marketing around the first of the year. One of the most common New Year’s resolutions is diet and exercise. Weight Watchers released this video shortly before the new year and it’s gaining some buzz online. The video has over 2.25 million views on youtube and is all about the “butt”. You don’t need to be a fan of Weight Watchers but “My Butt” is a pretty solid ad. “Everyone has a butt. Any every butt has a story. This is one.”

Check it out. Conceptually strong and spot on.

This Girl Can Video: Women… Do Your Thing

this girl can
This Girl Can is described as “a national campaign developed by Sport England and a wide range of partnership organisations.” The campaign aims to celebrate women who are setting aside fear and self-doubt by “doing their thing”. The video has only been up a couple of days and it’s already closing in on one million Youtube views. Why? It feels authentic, real and in turn creating a buzz online.

It’s easy to give this video a pass and overlook some of the clichéd sayings like “sweat like a pig”. You’re not going to see models with rock hard physiques in this video and that’s the point. Not every one aspires to be on a cover of a magazine. This Girl Can offers a great reminder, “Fear of judgement is stopping many of us from taking part in exercise. But as thousands of women up and down the country are proving, it really doesn’t have to.”

The video is set to female rap artist, Missy Elliott’s “Get UR Freak On”. Elliott was noted for her weight-loss in 2014 and has an on-going battle Graves’ disease. The singer encouraged her 2.5 million twitter followers to check out the #thisgirlCan campaign.

This Girl Can:
I jiggle there for I am
Sweat like a pig, feeling like a fox
I kick balls, deal with it
Damn right I look hot

This Girl Can celebrates the women who are doing their thing no matter how they do it, how they look or even how sweaty they get. They’re here to inspire us to wiggle, jiggle, move and prove that judgement is a barrier that can be overcome.#thisgirlcan

I’ve conditioned my mind.
Trained my body.
Sacrificed my soul.
There will be obstacles.
Doubters.

But nothing comes to those who wait.

Nike Women: Brasilian Skateboarder Leticia Bufoni

leticia-bufoni nike women

NIKE Women has released a new video featuring Brasilian skateboarder Leticia Bufoni. She’s been with Nike for awhile but they haven’t utilized her much to date. It’s great to see Nike supporting women in sport and investing in talented athletes like Leticia. She has over half a million Facebook fans and 218,000 followers on Instagram.

VIA NIKE.com
For Leticia Bufoni, skateboarding wasn’t love at first sight. Rather, it was love at first touch.

“The first time I touched the board, I was like, ‘Wow, I want to skate, I want to skate every day,’” the Brasil native says.

And skate every day she did, although it wasn’t always easy to find the time.

“Every day my dad went to work, I took my board and went to skate,” Bufoni says. “But I made sure to be back home before he returned because he didn’t like skating at all, mostly because I was skating with boys.”

Nike Women: Brasilian Skateboarder Leticia Bufoni

While Bufoni’s persistence and dedication eventually convinced her father to let her skate, it was her victory in the first event she ever entered that convinced him she had talent.

This talent brought her to Southern California, the mecca of skateboarding. Since landing in the states in 2007, Bufoni’s career has taken off. She’s considered one of the leading faces of women’s skateboarding, and at 21 years of age, Bufoni is just getting started.

“I’m living my dream,” Bufoni says. “I’m skating every day. I’m traveling around the world and skating with friends I know from Brasil and the U.S. It’s just a dream.”

With the exception of the NTM x Jordan Sneaker Tight, the footwear and apparel featured on Bufoni are from the Nike Women’s Spring 2015 collection. Product from this collection will be available in select retailers and on nike.com beginning in January. The NTM x Jordan Sneaker Tight is available beginning Nov. 28.

MOTIVATION – A Hardbody Takes Work

If you want a HARDBODY you’re going to have to work. It won’t be easy but it will be worth it. It’s starts with believing  you CAN and knowing you WILL. You CAN do it. You Will do it. Visualize it. Today is the perfect day to set new goals. Remember this poem by Walter Wintle, “Whether you think you can or you can’t you’re probably right”.

hard work

WHETHER YOU THINK YOU CAN OR YOU CAN’T YOU ARE PROBABLY RIGHT
If you think you are beaten, you are
If you think you dare not, you don’t,
If you like to win, but you think you can’t
It is almost certain you won’t.

If you think you’ll lose, you’re lost
For out of the world we find,
Success begins with a fellow’s will
It’s all in the state of mind.

If you think you are outclassed, you are
You’ve got to think high to rise,
You’ve got to be sure of yourself before
You can ever win a prize.

Life’s battles don’t always go
To the stronger or faster man,
But soon or late the man who wins
Is the man WHO THINKS HE CAN!

– Walter D. Wintle

Chances are you’ll want to because there are so many awesome messages in it. Cindy talks about how she came up with “Girl is NOT a 4 Letter word”, became a sponsored pro skateboarder and even skated down the 405 Freeway not that long ago.

“Live life balls to the wall. Do epic shit. Take every dare that comes your way. You can sleep when you’re dead”. This is the personal motto of Cindy Whitehead.

She conquered the male dominated profession of pro vert skateboarding in the 70’s, and quickly became one of the top ranked professional female vert skateboarders in the U.S. for pool riding and half-pipe. To this day, Cindy still holds the distinction of being the only female to be featured in the centerfold plus a two-page article in a skateboarding magazine, and is the only female skateboarder to have been sponsored by Puma.

Since then, Cindy has gone on to coin the term “Sports Stylist®,” working as a fashion stylist specializing in sports, with companies like Gatorade, Nike, the NBA,and athletes such as Tiger Woods, Kobe Bryant and Mia Hamm.

Last year she made national headlines by skateboarding down the closed 405 freeway in Los Angeles. In June of 2013 Cindy flew to Washington, DC to sign over some of her skateboard history to The Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History’s sports collections.

Cindy has been profiled in magazines and sites such as, ESPN, The Huffington Post, & Women’s Wear Daily, and has appeared on numerous TV and radio shows. She most recently spoke in Washington, DC at The Smithsonian Museum’s Innoskate event.

Her catchphrase “Girl is NOT a 4 Letter Word” has become a battle cry for girls worldwide.

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience.
