G’s Tip of the Week – Watch out for “Zero”

gtip

Don’t think that just because it says, Zero Fat, Zero Carbs, Zero Saturated Fat and Zero Calories it’s truly Zero everything! I know how many people consume products thinking they are completely guilt free, think again There is a loophole in the system, Go Figure!!!

Products with less than 0.5 grams of fat, trans fat, carbs, calories, fat per serving are allowed to list their content as zero. The problem with this is if you eat more than one serving of a product with just a small amount of trans fat, you may end up consuming a significant amount.

You know that “No Calorie, No Fat Butter Spray”? Oh yes, thought it was too good to be true? It sure is!! That entire spray bottle has more than 900 calories and 90 grams of fat!!

Tip: Look for the words “partially hydrogenated” on ingredient labels. This means there are some trans fat present, even if the listed content is zero.
Have a great week!
