Fitness Mandatory Routine Moves Are Back

The IFBB and NPC will bring back the fitness mandatory moves for the new contest season. The mandatory moves take effect immediately for the IFBB Fitness Pros and will begin in 2011 for NPC competitors. Since the IFBB Ft. Lauderdale Cup is the first Olympia qualifying show for 2011, it will implement the changes.

The 4 Mandatory Moves required in IFBB/NPC Fitness Routines are:
• Pushup (of any kind)
• High Kicks
• Straddle Hold
• Side Split

I was in attendance for the 2010 NPC National Board of Governors meeting in Atlanta where this topic was addressed. The fitness division was discussed and more emphasis will be placed on the fitness routines for 2011. In the NPC, the routines will count for 2/3 of the final score. There will still be two rounds, the 2-piece swimsuit and the fitness routine round, however the routine score will be doubled for the final score. The routines for the pros will also be given more emphasis. This will benefit women like Tanji Johnson, Nicole Duncan, Oksana Grishina and many other pros who have amazing routines.

The four mandatory moves will be judged on level of difficulty as well. Example? If a woman does a one arm pushup with ease she will score higher than a woman doing a two-arm pushup because of the level of difficulty. That doesn’t mean doing a sloppy, poorly executed one-arm pushup will score higher than perfectly executed two-arm pushup. The moves can be done in any order but must be included in the routine.

There will NOT be a 45-second routine in the pros and the women will NOT be wearing the black catsuit. Could this change? Possibly. Stay tuned.
