This weekend 19 Figure Pros and 9 Women Physique Pros will take the stage in Sacramento for the inaugural California Governor’s Cup. This is a new show to 2012 and it will also feature the debut of the men’s physique division. This should be a competitive event and our West Coast correspondent, Ron Avidan will be there to cover all the action.
Look for Krissy Chin, Jami DeBernard, Alea Suarez and Heather Dees to be your leading ladies at this show. I wouldn’t be surprised if we see them finish in the top spots. Wendy Fortino will make her pro debut after turning pro at the 2011 NPC USAs. Jodie Minear has switched up her training and will look to get back in the swing of things here. This could be the most competitive show in the new division. Patricia Wood turned pro at the 2011 NPC USAs and if she brings in a tighter booty she could be in the top spots. Susan Salazar will look to move up since her WPD debut at the Phoenix show. Karin Kimura will make her debut after taking top honors at the NPC Nationals last year. She’ll likely have more muscle than last week’s WPD winner Sara Hurrle but I could see the two of them battling for the win. My dark horse pick for the weekend to contend for first is Akane Nigro-Ismeal. She has the symmetry and was a little powerhouse in figure, don’t be surprised if she is called out first and standing near the middle.

The dudes will take the stage for the first time and let’s hope they don’t get their posing trunks over the first show. There’s a variety of physiques and they range the gamut. Like any new division it will evolve as it goes. I prefer Matt Christianer’s look the best in this field but we’ll see how it shakes out on Saturday.
