The IFBB Pro Women’s Physique Division (WPD) continues to evolve in just its second year. Things are beginning to take shape though with a few familiar physiques consistently being in the top spots. The 2013 New York Pro reinforced that with Brazilian natives Juliana Malacarne and Karina Nascimento finishing in the top two spots. The two have completely different physiques yet still were the standouts in the line-up.
Juliana carries more muscle on her frame than other competitors but it’s not over the top. It’s thick, dense muscle that shows years of lifting and maturity. She has the genetics that she can hold the muscle without looking like a female bodybuilder. The look was too much for Figure but seems to be the way of Women’s Physique. Karina came in with better conditioning than Juliana but lacked the size she carried. It then becomes a matter of what the judges prefer – conditioning or size. Juliana had the most complete look. Karina loves to play up the sex appeal on stage and it certainly helps get the attention of the judges. She’s positioned herself as one of the top competitors in the division. Toni West rounded out the top three and also has an aesthetically pleasing look. She could have been a tad tighter in the glutes and hamstrings but overall a nice showing. I wasn’t crazy about her suit bottom cut from the back and a slight change there may help.

Karina, Juliana, Toni – top three New York Pro Women’s Physique
Joele Smith also has a good look to her physique and could have been in the third spot without an argument. She could win a physique show before the year is over. Teresita Morales was second at this contest last year and has a very balanced physique. Another tough competitor and could be in the mix of the top three in every show she enters. Many industry pundits professed that Nathalie Foreau would be “too big” for the division but she didn’t appear out of place at all. If her tan was a bit darker she might have been a bit higher than 6th. She has huge quads and is one of the shorter competitors but more than held her own on the pro stage and has potential to be in the top spots in future shows.
I like Jen Louwagie’s look and would have put her in the top 10. Sheena Ohlig also has a nice look and if she comes in with better conditioning will be in the hunt for a top five spot.
