Archives for March 2009

Lil’ Arcinas

Huong qualified for this year’s figure Olympia by winning the ’08 Sacramento Pro. I’m still sorting through thousands of images from last year and this was one from a shoot we did the day after her first pro win. This is the physique we’ve come to appreciate on the pro stage.

There’s always some kind of excuse

This is probably the most upbeat melody to a song does nothing but complain. Theory of a Deadman sings “Hate My Life“. Don’t crank this one too loud in the office.

The title of this thread reminds me of many conversations I have with competitors after a show.

More lyrics…

There’s always some kind of excuse
I still hate my job, my boss is a dick
I don’t get paid nearly enough
To put up with all of his shit

Hendershott hitting the Bottle

Kidding, relax folks it’s only a joke. It’s just the photo of the day with Jen Hendershott at the Olympia.

I see stone people with no names

A little change of pace for today’s song of the day. “More Shine” by Si*Sé. Give it a listen, mellow but good.

2009 NPC San Diego Bikini Winners

The first ever California NPC Bikini contest was held on March 21st, in San Diego, California. The 2009 NPC San Diego, held at the Scottish Rite Auditorium, kicked things off for the Sunshine State’s NPC Bikini. The two winners, Michelle Gullett (Short Class and Overall) and Heidi Dimuzio (Tall Class). Congratulations on being the first two!

Mr. Ed is NOT a Good Look on Stage

I attended a local NPC event yesterday, which officially kicks off things in the Denver / Rocky Mountain region. It was nice to attend a show and not have to photograph the event. I had a chance to sit back and watch as a spectator for a chance. While watch I noticed a huge rookie mistake by one competitor. Anyone who has competed knows we’ve all been there with something. Not tan enough, wrong suit, whatever it may be. The very simple detail that stood out to me was one rookies and veterans alike should always remember for competing. Do NOT CHEW GUM on stage! Spit it out before you go on stage. Don’t let your hard work of dieting and training be ruined by a simple distraction like chewing gum. If you forget and do still have gum in your mouth don’t chomp it like a horse. Looking like Mr. Ed on stage is not flattering.

Chewing gum & looking like Mr. Ed – chalk up as a NO.

Stretch It Out

The competitive season is back in full swing and there’s a show every weekend somewhere. Today’s photo of the day is of IFBB Figure Pro Alicia “Smiley” Harris. Alicia will be making her pro debut at the California Pro in May. This shot was taken last summer in Las Vegas. Look for Smiley to make a name for herself in the pro ranks this year.

The Dope Boys in the Building

Bad ass drummer Travis Barker joins The Game for “Dope Boys“. Don’t have this one cranked too loud and if you’re offended by explicit lyrics.

HOT HOT HOT – FLEX Swimsuit Issue Cover Preview

WOW! What can you say about the June 2009 issue of FLEX magazine? HOT? Ya, smoke’n hot. Here’s a sneak peak of the two cover choices. One of these two will be the cover that hits newstands.

On cover one you have IFBB Pros Felicia Romero and Nicole Wilkins-Lee with NPC competitor Monique Minton. The second cover you have Monique heating it up solo. Tough call as I like both covers. I have my favorite, what about you? If you’ve signed up for the FLEX magazine newsletter you’re one of the first people to see the new cover choices and can cast your vote. It’s free and simple to do, click here to be on the list to help choose the next cover of FLEX magazine.

50 Cent & Hardbody Hotties

Check out some of the Hardbody women posing with one of the music industry’s biggest stars, 50 cent. 50 cent is rumored to be starting his own supplement line. He’s made millions from endorsing Vitamin Water and is a savvy businessman, so I wouldn’t be shocked to see something from him soon.

I ain’t gonna work on Maggie’s farm no more

Maggie’s Farm done originally by Bob Dylan and remade by Rage Against the Machine. You could say they are slightly different genres. Enjoy.

Europa Show Of Champions – Orlando

The IFBB Figure lineup is starting to stack up for the Orlando Pro. The fitness, not so much. Hopefully that will all change in the next couple weeks. There will be a few debuts at this event and the competition looks tough. Check out all the line ups on IFBBpro.com. We’ll be profiling the competitors and this event in the coming weeks.

Behind The Scenes in Vegas

Ah summer time, it will be here before we know it. Last summer J.M. Manion managed to get two of the hottest women in Vegas too cool off. Monique Minton and Jamie Costa were in Vegas for the NPC USA contest and JM photographed the duo together. Not a bad sight for those by the pool that day.

to the Love Rollercoaster. I didn’t know this was a remake song but thanks to IFBB Figure Pro Christine Wan for sending this one our way. The remake version is by the Red Hot Chili Peppers but the original was by the Ohio Players. HUH? Yup. The Ohio Players. LOL! I gotta say the remake is contains way less cheese.

Ms. Figure Olympia Jenn Gates Celebrates her Birthday

The reigning Ms. Figure Olympia champ, Jenn Gates celebrates her birthday today. Jenn tells me she will be spending the day with her family in Indiana. She shared that she’s doing great and happy that Spring is right around the corner. Keep your eyes peeled at your local newsstand for Jenn’s newest cover, the May issue of IRONMAN magazine. The issue is starting to hit stands now. Those of you attending the NPC JR. Nationals, in June, will get a chance to meet and chat with the champ there.

Happy Birthday Jenn!

New Look to Bodybuilding.com

Bodybuilding.com has become one of the biggest and best companies in the health and fitness industry. That doesn’t happen by staying stagnant and content with how things are done. It requires constant progression and change. One way they are evolving is through the look and usability of their web site. If you haven’t been to the site recently, check out some of the new subtle changes they’ve made. The black background is being phased out and replaced with a cleaner, crisp white and blue color scheme. Still the same great content and exceptional customer service when ordering supplements from the store.

Adam “Big Daddy” Sandler Meets a Few Hardbody Ladies

Today’s photo of the day shows one of my favorite comedians of all-time, Adam Sandler with three of the hottest women in the IFBB. Erin Stern, Nicole Wilkins-Lee and Jessica Putnam pose for a picture with The Sandman at Katsuya, a Japanese/sushi restaurant in LA.

adamsandler.jpg

The ladies were in LA on a photo shoot last week. Nicole will be heading to New York to compete at the New York Pro Fitness in a couple weeks. Erin will be making the drive to Orlando for her next Pro Figure show. Jessica is busy with the Weider Seminar that her and her husband Peter are putting on this weekend.

American Woman Gonna Mess Your Mind

Keeping with “remake” week. American Woman was originally done by The Guess Who but remade by Lenny Kravitz. It’s a kick ass song with rock’n riffs on both the original and the remake. Some of you more “seasoned” visitors may be able to relate to the original version more.

Lenny Kravitz remade the classic hit and in this version is rock’n it out with Prince.

The Guess Who Version

Goofy Gangstah Girls Flashing

You’ve seen the two hardbody gals here before. Monique Minton and Erin Stern are flashing up some type of random signs while at a shoot. This is just one of the many and if you’re one of their “friends” on that crazy little thing called “Facebook, you’ll see more. Look for Erin to return to the stage next month at the Orlando Pro, while Monique preps for the NPC JR USA in May.

First Lady’s Guns Gaining Attention

The First Lady, Michelle Obama is getting the attention of millions across the nation for her sleeveless outfits and toned arms. New York 1 reports:

Kacy Duke, a personal trainer to the stars with Equinox, says she has many clients asking for “Michelle Obama arms.”

“What they love about her is that her arms are very sinewy. They are muscular but they’re very sinewy and very defined,” says Duke. “They are not like a bodybuilder’s arm. She has beautiful lines in her arm and every woman can have beautiful lines.”

Check out the video and training tips on New York 1.

Guilty feet have got no rhythm

Song lyrics are often thought provoking and other times they are plain odd. Either way some songs can make you think. I also enjoy when songs are remade and can produce a completely different vibe than the original version. Today’s song of the day is a good example of that. Seether remakes George Michael’s “Carless Whisper” and definitely a different take on the original. Thanks to Momo aka “Songbird” for the recommendation today.

Seether Version:

Have a good remake? Post it in the comments or email me with your suggestion.

Monica Brant Signs with BNRG & Heads to Orlando Pro Figure

Rumors of Monica Brant retiring were running rampant last year. Yes, Mo took some time off from the competitive stage but she never retired. Evidence of this is in full bloom already this year. Mo returned to the competitive stage earlier this month where she placed 6th at the 2009 Figure International. Not too shabby for someone who many thought she was done and out of the picture.

The good times continue to roll for Monica. Today she shared the news that she’s inked a two-year deal with BioNutritional Research Group (BNRG). You may not recognize the name BNRG but you’ve probably seen or tried their bars. Mo said, “BNRG makes the yummy lil Power Crunch bars and now have just launched their new amazing protein, ProtoWhey! Very, very, good and high quality!!” I have had the Power Crunch bars and they are definitely good.

She’s also decided to compete in the Orlando Pro Figure show next month. Why? Why not? Monica commented, “I figured it wasn’t too hard to keep up with the prep and just go ahead and compete for fun and the fans.” This definitely adds a new twist to the line up in Florida.

Visit Monica’s web site to find out more about the happenings in her world as well as her F.E.M. Camps. Congrats on the continued success Monica.

The Incredibles at The Arnold

IFBB Pro Bodybuilder, Andy Haman and his family spent hours getting painted by the crew at Jan Tana. Andy and his family transformed into The Incredibles. The crew could be seen walking around the Arnold posing for photos. It was a cool site and today’s photo of the day.

Rebel Yell Remake

The group “Dope” remakes Billy Idol’s “Rebel Yell”. Pretty kick ass version. C-hob comes through again with a solid recommendation.

A tough weekend at the office with the Denver Dream

behindthescenes.jpg
A Behind the Scenes look at the Denver Dream Photoshoot.
Yes, some days I have it tough. Like this past weekend when I photographed the new Lingerie Football Team in Denver. Hey, somebody has to do it. IFBB Pros Heather Mae French and Jesse Palmer made the squad. NPC competitors Kristal Marshall and Kari Abt also made the final cut.
Take a look at some of the local press from in and around Denver regarding the new league. The first video shows some of the smack down that took place during the tryouts.
