G’s Tip of The Week: Microwave Your Eggs

Gina Aliotti’s Tip of the Week includes nuke’n your eggs. Keep an eye on them so they don’t explode in the wave.

gtip

In a hurry and don’t have time to pan fry your eggs? Did you know that you can simply use a microwave safe bowl or mug and toss them in the microwave!? Don’t forget your non-stick spray and your favorite spices and it is as easy as pressing “start”.

Tip: Timing is everything. On your first attempt, be sure to watch closely and stop the microwave just as your eggs start to rise. You may need to stop, stir, and continue cooking for a few seconds. Doesn’t get much easier than that!! No excuses!

Hardbody Poll: Do You Follow Workouts in Magazines?

Fitness magazines are packed with information and many times include workouts. I see women carrying magazines in the gym and following the routines printed. Is this something you do or did when you were first starting?

Hardbody Music: New Talent – Lissie

This is one newcomer worth checking out. Lissie released her first album this week and she has a kick ass voice. Check out her cover of Lady Gaga’s “Bad Romance”. This is Hardbody! You’ll be hearing more from Lissie in the months ahead.

She’s on tour this Fall in the United States and I have a feeling you can see her now before she starts selling out huge venues.

Millions of Eggs Recalled

Double check your eggs before eating.

Eggs May be Linked to Salmonella Outbreak
On-farm egg testing and a records review for Salmonella by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has led to a multistate egg recall by Wright County Egg based in Galt, IA.

The recall may be associated with a Salmonella outbreak that is the subject of an ongoing trace back investigation by FDA.

In a statement going into the weekend, the Iowa company said it was recalling specific Julian dates of shell eggs produced by its farms for possible Salmonella contamination.

Eggs affected by the recall were distributed to food wholesalers, distribution centers, and foodservice companies in California, Illinois, Missouri, Colorado, Nebraska, Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Iowa. These companies distribute nationwide.

Eggs are packaged under the following brand names: Lucerne, Albertson, Mountain Dairy, Ralph’s, Boomsma’s, Sunshine, Hillandale, Trafficanda, Farm Fresh, Shoreland, Lund, Dutch Farms, and Kemps.

The recalled eggs are packed in varying sizes of cartons (6-egg cartons, dozen egg cartons, 18-egg cartons) with Julian dates ranging from 136 to 225 and plant numbers 1026, 1413 and 1946. Dates and codes can be found stamped on the end of the egg carton. The plant number begins with the letter P and then the number. The Julian date follows the plant number, for example: P-1946 223.

Hardbody Style’n with The Sports Stylist® – “No Show” Socks

The always rock’n Cali stylist, Cindy Whitehead has a great tip regarding socks for your photo shoot. Check it out!

sportsstylist

I have been using Asics Sorbtek Double Tab Low Cut Socks for every shoot we do at Muscle & Fitness HERS for the past 4 years. The reason? They are the only “no show” socks I have found that stay up all day long through every exercise. There is absolutely no heel slippage! I also love that they are padded slightly in all the places your foot needs it. I have every athlete and model swearing by them at the end of the shoot!

Europa Super Show Review

Check out my review of the 2010 Europa Super Show. I break down each division and give my two cents on the competition. Each of the winners tasted victory for the first time, which is pretty cool and something you rarely see on the pro stage. Congrats to all the competitors.

Melo, Latona or Someone Else the Bikini Olympia Favorite?

The IFBB’s first Bikini Olympia is just weeks away and the landscape changed a bit after last weekend’s Europa Super show. Many, myself included, felt that Nathalia Melo was the standard for bikini and on her way to becoming the first Bikini Olympia champ. She was off at the Europa show in a few ways. At the prejudging her make-up was flat and a bit muddy, her upper body was way too lean and stringy and her posing wasn’t what we’ve come to expect. Amanda Latona on the other hand, brought a more balanced physique and improved stage presence. I’d still like to see Amanda bring a bit more confidence and sass to her individual poses. When she is posing in the comparison rounds you can see her competitive nature come out and she turns it up a notch.

I expected Nathalia to be announced in second but she was relegated to third. A reminder that if it isn’t broke don’t try to fix it. She presented a different look than what won her two previous shows. If you’re winning it makes little sense to change things up, unless the judges tell you to. She came in looking like a different competitor at the night show with improved make up and a softer upper body.

latona

So what can we make of this?

Latona improves and beats a less than spot on Melo. Ali Rosen has been a judge’s favorite since turning pro last month at the NPC USAs. We also have Sonia Gonzales who has improved steadily over the year and Dianna Dahlgren who notched a win in Hartford. If Melo is 100% and looks more like she did in Orlando and less like Dallas I’d still consider her the front runner for the Olympia. There’s no arguing that Amanda Latona is a stunning woman and is in the mix for the top spot as well. Both Latona and Melo have booties that are unmatchable in the bikini division. Which is why I find it perplexing that Rosen finds herself in the mix of a top five spot heading into the Olympia. It’s no knock on her but the judges have taken a liking to her physique which is completely different from Latona and Melo’s. Amanda has a bit more muscle than Melo and Rosen which also throws a wrench into what the standard for bikini should be. All of these women are beautiful and the top five will make for an impressive line-up.

It will definitely make for a competitive Bikini Olympia. What do you think?

Clueless Dallas Blogger Covers the Europa

I ran across a blog on The Dallas Observer today and it’s a perfect example of a writer not taking the time to be accurate in his/her reporting. The author admits he’s never been to a bodybuilding competition and his ignorance shows. Here’s a small sample of what I’m referring to:

By late Saturday afternoon, I’d missed the “Hot ‘Fit’ Moms” competition, but just made it in time for the women’s bodybuilding finals. Called onstage by a white-suited guy brimming with Shooter McGavin sleaze, women from around the world took their turns running through elaborate routines that were equal parts yoga, striptease and gymnastics, in a series of moves to accentuate their unlikely contours. Ripping off a coat to start her routine, German woman woke babies in the crowd with the first beats of her driving techno backing music. An American bodybuilder danced to a club mix of “Over the Rainbow,” skipping onstage with a picnic basket and peeling off her clothes piece by piece, revealing a new Wizard of Oz character costume with each layer.

bobo
CJ and Bob backstage at the Europa Super Show.

I did get a chuckle out of Bob Cicherillo being referred to as Shooter McGavin (Happy Gilmore reference) but the author clearly was more interested in Bob’s coat than what he was announcing. There was no professional women’s bodybuilding in the show and the routines he’s referring to are those of Fitness competitors.

shooter
Shooter McGavin and KISS impostor.

I don’t know if the author was trying to be funny or just clueless by referring to the Europa Super Show as EuropaCon but I do kinda like the name. I shouldn’t be surprised that “mainstream media” would miss the boat on their coverage however a little ground work can go a long way.

Europa Super Show Weekend Update

Yesterday the ladies took to the stage at the IFBB Europa Super show and there were a few surprises. The bikini top three will be Ali Rosen, Nathalia Melo and Amanda Latona. The show is between Latona and Melo who have the best butts in all of bikini. Melo was off her stride a bit from previous shows. Her upper body was a bit too lean, make-up slightly off and the posing we’ve grown to expect and love wasn’t on point. Latona stepped up her game and brought a smaller, slightly tighter physique from earlier in the year and I look for her to take the show. Ali Rosen has a pretty face and sexiness to her and will land in third. I’d still like to see her pose from the front when she comes out for her individual shots. We could see Bianca Binno in the 4th place position and if she does she’ll head to the Olympia. It looks like Monique Minton Ricardo could miss the top five in this show. The top three women are already qualified for the big dance next month.

dallasbikini0151
Amanda and Ali go after Nathalia at the Europa Super show.

Fitness physique portion had Myriam Capes, Bethany Wagner, Shannon Meteraud and Alti Bautista in the first call out. I like Wagner’s physique the best with Meteraud in second. Alti showed she still has it after a six year absence from the Fitness stage. Myriam is in great condition and is in the third or 4th position heading into tonight’s finals. The routines are kicking off the finals at 2:30pm and I look for it to come down to Shannon and Myriam for the win.

dallasfitness0285
Your guess is as good as mine on what was going on here.

The Figure portion of the show had a few surprises when the dust settled. Two of the favorites heading into the show may be absent from the top five. Mindi Smith was way off her mark and resembled nothing like Phoenix Pro or Figure International. She has six weeks to get her groove back if she hopes to be in the top five at the Olympia. Ava Cowan had hoped to improve upon her 4th place showing in Jacksonville but it won’t happen in Dallas. The judges appear to favor Terri Turner for the win in this show. If she does win which I believe she will, it will be her first pro victory. I like Alicia Harris for the win but it looks like she’ll take second. Teresa Anthony appears to have a lock on third place. Josie Zamora could slip into the 4th place spot and if she does she’ll be Olympia qualified since the top three already are. Monica Mark brought a smaller physique and is in the mix for a top five spot but not enough to get into the top three. This was a big show and a number of women showed improvements while others slipped. I saw a number of simply missteps like bad hair, bad make-up, poor tanning and bad suit choice. These may seem like little mistakes but they all add up and count towards the overall look and ultimately the placings.

dallasfigure0368
Alicia and Teresa are gunn’n for number one but will likely settle for second and third.

We’ll see how it all shakes down in a few hours. I’ll provide a full contest report after tonight’s finals.

The fitness routines will kick things off at 2:30 pm at the Europa Super show in Dallas. Follow along on twitter @hardbodynews and @BBcomcontests.

Hardbody Style’n with Cindy – Go Light on the Tanner

Cindy Whitehead aka the Sports Stylist® shares some insight on tanning for a magazine shoot. Did you know that the clothes you’ll wear for a magazine shoot are often next season’s apparel? An added perk of shooting with a magazine.

sportsstylist

When you get that booking for that coveted magazine shoot… remember to have a light tan, but do not use any deep tanning products like you do for competition as they may stain the apparel permanently. The stylist usually brings next seasons apparel samples and they need to be returned in perfect condition.

Nicole Moneer Guerrero Gets A Page of Love in The Chicago Sun Times

BIKINI FIT: NICOLE GOES PRO FOR SHOW
When it comes to being fit, Nicole Moneer Guerrero is it.

She is a certified personal trainer at Lifetime Fitness in Schaumburg, a fitness model, a spokesmodel and more.

The former Luvabull won her International Federation of Body-Builders pro card in July and will make her IFBB pro debut Saturday in the women’s pro bikini category at the Europa Super Show in Dallas.

Not that she lacks for experience. She has the 2009 Ms. Bikini Classic Universe title, among others, to her credit.

”Challenge yourself,” she told Quick Hits during a recent visit to the gym, where she demonstrated one-armed pushups, among other exercise (watching was enough to wear out yours truly).

The soon-to-be 38-year-old definitely follows her own advice.

Naturally.

”I’ve been lifting weights for over 17 years, but I’m not big and bulky,” she said.

A quick glance showed she was correct.

Working out appears to be Guerrero’s fountain of youth.

”I tell all of my 20-year-old friends and clients and people I know that it gets better in your 30s,” she said. ”I’m definitely mentally stronger now. Nothing can stop me.”

And physically?

”I’ve had a few things stop me physically,” she said. ”But for the most part, I push through it.”

Another Way To Die

Disturbed’s “Another Way To Die” music video is pretty heavy but this is a kick ass song. The band is coming out with a new album the end of this month and this is their first single. They’re the same group who brought you “Down with the Sickness”. I downloaded this song and it’s a good one for the gym.
