WWE NXT: Vote Kaitlyn

Today is the final day to vote for the next WWE Diva. It’s down to two women and one rookie diva will become a pro tomorrow night. Who will it be… Naomi or Kaitlyn? There’s really no question for hardbody fans, right? KAITLYN! KAITLYN! KAITLYN! Kaitlyn has been a friend of hardbody for years and help support her by casting your vote on nxt.wwe.com to help her become the next WWE Diva.

She’s been kicking ass since joining the WWE in July and hasn’t stopped. Last week she was the sumo champion in the ring. Besides that, how can you not love a woman who will wear a “I heart mustaches” shirt? It is Movember after all.

Kaitlyn rock’n the sumo suit.

Read more about Celeste err Kaitlyn from previous hardbody posts. It would be pretty sweet to see Celeste Kaitlyn win the whole enchilada. She’s more than held her own so far. Help her make it to the next level by voting for her on nxt.wwe.com.

Good luck Kaitlyn!

Cauliflower Pizza Recipe

On one of my recent flights, I was flipping through the tv stations and ran across the Dr. Oz show. There were some healthy tips presented on the show and one of them was a Cauliflower Pizza. I’m not a big fan of cauliflower but this looked pretty good. I may have to try it…

Ingredients
1 cup cauliflower, grated
1/2 cup shredded light mozarella cheese
1 egg
1 tsp oregano
2 tsp basil
2 tsp parsley
1/2 tsp fennel
1 green pepper
1 onion
1 tomato
Garlic powder, to taste

Directions
Chop pepper, onion and tomato. Set aside. Steam the cauliflower, let it cool and then grate it.

Combine grated cauliflower with the mozzarella and egg in a large bowl. Spray a circular or rectangular metal pan with cooking spray before spreading the dough evenly. Sprinkle the dough with fennel, oregano, parsley and basil. Add garlic powder.

Bake at 450° F for 12-15 minutes. Remove the dough from the oven and sprinkle chopped green pepper, onion and tomato, as well as the remaining mozzarella cheese on top. Return the pizza to the oven. Turn the heat up to broil and leave in until the cheese has melted and the crust is crispy.

Arnold Amateur will NOT be awarding IFBB Pro cards

There’s been some confusion as to whether or not there are IFBB pro cards awarded to the Arnold Amateur winners. U.S. competitors will NOT be awarded IFBB Pro status for their wins at the Arnold Amateur contest.

If an Arnold Amateur overall winner goes on to receive IFBB pro status, they will be invited to compete in the pro competition the following year at the Arnold. Sylvia Tremblay is an example of this in the Fitness division.

From Arnoldamateur.com:

The Fifth-Annual Arnold Amateur IFBB International Bodybuilding, Fitness, Figure and Bikini Championships will once again include amateurs from USA’s NPC and IFBB competitors from around the world, including Europe, Asia, and Canada.U.S. competitors in men’s bodybuilding, women’s bodybuilding, fitness and figure must finish in the top five at an NPC national qualifying-sanctioned event to be eligible for the Arnold Amateur. No qualifications needed for classic bodybuilding and bikini. Download entry form.

Pro cards are not awarded to U.S. competitors who win the Arnold Amateur Men’s and Women’s Bodybuilding, Fitness, Figure and Bikini competitions. However, Arnold Amateur winners who go on to earn a Pro card through a sanctioned-qualifying event will be invited to compete in a future Arnold Classic, Ms. International, Figure International, Fitness International or Bikini International.

Roelly Winklaar, Tarek Ellsetorhi, Elana Shportun, Marie Garmen Gomez and Sylvia Tremblay and among previous Arnold Amateur winners who have competed as professionals at the Arnold Classic. This is a unique opportunity to earn a spot in one of the most prestigious professional bodybuilding shows in the world.

The Arnold Amateur winners also receive two tickets to the Arnold Classic bodybuilding finals on Saturday, March 5th. Winners will be recognized on the Arnold Classic stage and photographed with Arnold. The Arnold Amateur receives a tremendous amount of national and international coverage from leading publications, offering winners an unprecedented amount of media exposure.

Gina’s Italian Insights Part III

Gina’s back with another Top 10 Italian Insights. The IFBB Figure Pro recently visited Italy and compiled a few lists we’ll be sharing over the next few weeks. Check out the third installment of Gina’s Italian Insights.

G’s Top 10 Italian Insights Part 3

1. You have to pay for water at restaurants (acqua minerale/frizzante or aqua naturale) but you can fill up on free water from the water flowing randomly in fountains throughout the city!
2. There is history behind every building, church, street sign, walkway, hotel, and it is never ending!
3. Italian men do not think twice about riding on a scooter together and sitting close!
4. Italian house wine is just as good if not better than expensive bottles!
5. There are a million different ways to say Hello in Italian (Ciao, Pronto, Salve, and so many more…)
6. No matter what you say or how you say anything in Italian, even if you are fluent, YOU ARE WRONG!
7. There is no such thing as Fettuccini Alfredo in Italy!
8. They don’t serve spoons with their pasta like they do in the states.
9. You don’t order appetizers and then your meal later, you order every entrée you are going to have for the meal all at once, except for dessert! If you as them to serve your appetizers first and then take your order they look at you like you are crazy!
10. Pasta or Pizza is just a first course not considered your meal!

We’re rock in Ft. Lauderdale and it couldn’t be a better way to bring the competitive season to a close. Last night, over 150 women checked in for the NPC/IFBB Ft. Lauderdale Cup and will rock their hardbodies later today. Follow all the action throughout the weekend by refreshing this page or follow on twitter at twitter.com/hardbodynews. Look for coverage on our facebook page and also on Bodybuilding.com. This is going to be a kick ass show.

I’ll be using @hardbodynews and @BBcomContests. Those of you tweeting about this weekend’s event, use the hashtag #ftlaudcup. You can see what everyone is writing about related to the 2010 Ft. Lauderdale Cup at http://hashtags.org/ftlaudcup.

If you’re not on Twitter, you can stay on this page and refresh for the live call-outs and my (Isaac’s) insight through out the weekend.

The Finals will begin at 6:30pm EST. The IFBB Fitness routines will kick the evening off. Remember the scores will count for 2/3 of the final score so we won’t really know who is going to come out on top until the finals. Unlike prejudging in Bikini and Figure we’ll have a pretty good idea of who the top 3 will be. This makes things more exciting and it will qualify 3 women for the 2011 Fitness Olympia.

Ft. Lauderdale Pro Figure Preview

This weekend caps off the end to a competitive 2010 Figure Season. Three women will leave Ft. Lauderdale with 2011 Figure Olympia qualifications. Two days out from the competition, there are 30 women entered for the Ft. Lauerdale Cup. This is a deep line up and the top spots will be very competitive.

Ava Cowan, Alicia Harris and Kristal Richardson are already qualified for the 2011 Olympia. Look for them to be in the top five again here. Lenay Hernandez returns to the stage after taking some time off since the 2008 Olympia. She has the potential to be in the top spots here. Candice John has continued to refine her physique and one to keep an eye on. Candice Keene is always competitive and will look to move into the top three at this show. Gen Strobo found success on this stage last year and will look to repeat. There are a number of women who could be in the top five and on paper Kristal Richardson is the one to beat. She comes into the this show with a top five Olympia finish. Can anyone knock her off the top spot here? We’ll find out on Saturday.

Hardbody Style’n with The Sports Stylist® – Looks for Your Porfolio

Trying to determine your looks for building your portfolio? Cindy has some helpful tips in this week’s edition of Hardbody Stlye’n with the Sports Stylist®.

Look through magazine layouts or friends modeling cards – what do you like/dislike about what you see? Make an inspiration board with those images as it will help you to define a pattern of what you would like your look to be once you start testing. This way you will have a clear idea of what you want to shoot and what you need to bring with you.

2010 Ft. Lauderdale Pro Bikini Preview

The 2010 Ft. Lauderdale Pro will feature 14 bikini pros and has shaped up to be a competitive event. Check out the hardbody breakdown of the competition and follow along this week as Hardbody hits the beach.

There are three Olympia qualifications up for grabs. Who do you think will win it all? UPDATE: Jessica Jessie is out with a leg injury and will NOT be competing.

{democracy:179}

The Hardbody Breakdown:

Jennifer Andrews – Jennifer Andrews won not only her class but also the overall at the 2010 NPC Nationals. She’s wasting no time getting into the pro league and looks to continue her winning ways. She has a great bikini body and the potential to qualify for the Olympia in her first pro show.

Nicole Coleman – Nicole made her bikini pro debut at the Detroit Pro Bikini. Nicole brought a bit too much muscle to the stage and will need to tone it down a bit to be competitive. She has a power-lifting background and a solid base of muscle. I’d like to see her change her suit and hair up a bit from Detroit as well.

Missy Coles – Missy is one of the x-factors in this line up. She could be a top three contender or sitting on the outside of the top five. The key to Missy’s success will come in her presentation and her tan. She’s had some issues with her tanning at past shows which is distracting to her physique. Missy will look to rebound from her 14th place finish at the Olympia.

Jessica Jessie – Jessica turned pro at the 2010 NPC Jr. Nationals by winning the overall. She’s competed a number of times already this year and her physique has come a long way since the beginning of the year. She was off in Detroit and off at the Olympia. We’ll see if she can come back and be in the mix here. She could be in the top three or outside of the top five depending on what type of condition she’s in.

Nicole Moneer-Guerrero – Nicole will look to improve on her Tournament of Champions 11th place finish and if she brings a tighter backside she will. She continues to improve since turning pro earlier this year and I could see her in the top 2 callouts.

Samantha Morris – This will be Samatha’s pro debut. She’s one of the younger competitors in the IFBB and continues to refine her physique. She’ll be one of the taller competitors in the line up and she’ll need to be tighter than past shows to hang in this line up. If she’s conditioned I look for her to be in the top call-out, if not she’ll be standing on the sidelines.

Lindsey Morrison – Lindsey has only a handful of shows under her suit but has risen to the top fairly quickly. She turned pro at this year’s 2010 Team Universe and will make her debut at this event. She’ll need to bring up the energy and stage presentation to hang in this field. She has the physique it’s a matter of how she presents it.

Justine Munro – Justine competed in the WBFF in 2009 and made the switch to the CBBF this year. She took home first place in her class and the overall title, earning her IFBB pro status. She has stunning good looks and will be the one to watch here. She could come in and be top three in her IFBB Pro debut. I wouldn’t be surprised if she is in the first call-out.

Nathalie Mur – Nathalie will make the trip from France to compete once again state-side. She was 7th at the Pro Bodybuilding Weekly Bikini Pro show. She has exotic good look and a nice physique. If she has a little tighter booty than this summer and can present it she’ll be competitive here.

Nicole Nagrani – Nicole has come a long way in a short time. She’s one of my favorite Bikini Pros and always has great energy on and off stage. I can’t see her losing this show if she brings the same look she has all year. I continue to be impressed that she’s in college and rocks the hardbody. Nicole is one of the standards in bikini and the one to watch if you want to see what the division is all about.

Khan Nguyen – Khanh gets the award for most persistent competitor of the year. She’s refined her look and fixed her suits over the last few shows. There’s not much more she can do to improve. It comes down to who she’s compared to and if that’s a look the judges like.

Zara Pineda-Boorder – Zara made the trip from Canada to Sacramento a couple weeks ago but missed the prejudging. She won’t make that mistake again. She debuted at the Detroit Pro and will look to move up from there.

Desha Rodriquez – Desha will make her pro bikin debut here. She competed in a few Figure competitions but felt her body would be suited better for the bikini division. She hasn’t been on stage in awhile but she’s stayed in shape as seen at various expos throughout the year. If she can bring the sass in her presentation she’ll be competitive in bikini. The only thing that could hold Desha back is herself and nerves.

Gemma Williams – Gemma will make the trip from the United Kingdom to compete. She’s a stunning woman in her photos and has model good looks. We’ll see how it translates on stage this weekend.

It will be a very competitive show and the top five will be top notch. I like Nagrani for the win but it won’t be easy for her. Any number of women could be in the top three and challenge her for the title. Follow all the action here and on twitter throughout the week.

Debbie Kruck Gets Married in Unique Fashion

Anyone who knows Debbie Kruck knows she’s always an interesting character. She’s been known to show up at events with outfits that would give Lady Gaga a run for her money. Debbie has been part of the fitness industry for years and many competitors have participated in the NPC Debbie Kruck Classic.

Staying true to her uniqueness, Debbie made her own wedding dress and rocked it during Election Day. The Daytona New Journal covered the event.

With a filled-out sample ballot, Debbie Kruck took quizzical glances in stride as she strolled in her wedding dress to her polling place at The Casements.

The Ormond Beach woman stitched her own gown, fashioned a silk-rose bouquet and made preparations for the matrimonial ceremony on her fiancé’s birthday Tuesday — which also happened to be Election Day.

The plans for the vows were a little hurried because the groom, full-time Army Reserve Sgt. 1st Class Tim Forrester, who is responsible for his battalion’s supplies, is being deployed Nov. 12.

Congratulations Debbie and Tim. Read the full story here.

2011 IFBB Pro League Event Schedule

The IFBB Pro League has released the event schedule for 2011. There are a few additions and some changes to others from last year. Now is the time to start mapping out your plans for the next year. We’ll be at most of these events however we can’t be at all of them. If anyone would like to sponsor Hardbody to cover the shows outside of the United States, feel free to contact me. 🙂 Note that some of the pro shows are held on the same day as NPC events.

2011 IFBB Pro Fitness Schedule:
Note that there are fewer qualifying spots this year for the 2011 Olympia. The Fitness International is by invite only which leaves only two other opportunities to qualify in the United States for the 2011 Fitness Olympia. The 2010 Ft. Lauderdale Cup and the 2011 NY Pro Fitness. The other qualifying spots will be held in Germany and Toronto. The Olympia is moved up to the middle of September and the Chicago FIBO and 2011 Ft. Lauderdale Cup will be qualifying shows for 2012. It’s sad to see so few shows but it comes back to the competitors. If you don’t compete promoters will not hold contests.

Visit the Hardbody Event Calendar section for the complete schedule.

==================================================

2011 IFBB Pro Bikini Schedule:
The 2011 Pro Bikini season will be a busy one. There are a ton of shows and a number of events for bikini women to qualify for the Olympia. There are 13 shows before the 2011 Olympia and six after it. The season will get started with the inagural Bikini International in Columbus, Ohio. The event is by invite only and the top six will qualify for the second annual Bikini Olympia. A few new shows were added to the schedule this year and we’ll likely see a number of new ladies on the Olympia stage next year.

Visit the Hardbody Event Calendar section for the complete schedule.

==================================================

2011 IFBB Pro Figure Schedule:
The 2011 Figure season will be much like the 2010 with a few new shows. The season begins with the invite only Figure International and ends with the Kentucky Muscle Pro. Once the season begins in March, there will be shows every month.

Visit the Hardbody Event Calendar section for the complete schedule.

==================================================

2011 IFBB Pro Women’s Bodybuilding Schedule:
The women’s bodybuilding schedule has a few new events added to the 2011 schedule. While there aren’t as many shows as bikini and figure there are more than fitness. Things will get started in Columbus and end in Chicago for the female bodybuilders.

Visit the Hardbody Event Calendar section for the complete schedule.

For the complete schedule visit IFBBpro.com. The schedule is subject to change without notice.

2010 IFBB Ft. Lauderdale Cup – Fitness Preview

This weekend marks the last contest IFBB contest of the year but at the same time, it’s the first qualifying show for the 2011 Fitness Olympia. This is an important show to pay attention to as it’s the first show that will implement the new rule changes in the IFBB Pro League. The new rule places more emphasis on the 2-minute Fitness Routine (2/3 of the score). The routines will also include four mandatory moves… Pushup (of any kind), High Kicks, Straddle Hold and Side Split.

This show has a number of angles to watch. There are a few women competing for the first time as pros and a couple of comebacks. There’s no clear cut favorite for this contest which makes it even more interesting to follow.

{democracy:178}

The HARDBODY Breakdown:
Peggy Sue Barber – Peggy Sue Barber may not be a name many of you are familiar with unless you’re in the Michigan area. Admittedly, I needed to do a bit of research to find more about her. Peggy Sue turned pro at the 2002 Team Universe Fitness as Peggy Sue Crawford by winning the Medium height class. It’s been a few years since she’s competed so it will be interesting to see how does. Welcome back!

Michelle Craven – Michelle has been at the bottom of the pack in the world of IFBB Figure since turning pro in 2008. She’ll be making the transition to her first pro fitness show at this contest. Michelle has enlisted the help of Fitness International & Fitness Olympia Champ, Jen Hendershott for her choreography. If you’re going to go big why not enlist the help of one of the best? I think she’ll find more success in the Fitness division than she’s seen in Figure. Props for putting together a routine and making the move.

Nicole Duncan – Nicole has one of the best routines in the IFBB and should be one of the women who benefits from the new rule change. She’s always impressive with her twists, turns and tumbling but her conditioning has held her back in the past. She’ll still need to be in shape to hang in the physique department but look for her in one of the top spots. Don’t blink or you may miss one of her many impressive moves.

Tina Durkin – Tina was 7th at the Fitness Olympia this year and will look to get back to the Olympia stage with a top three finish. She’s been as high as 3rd as a pro and will look to match or improve it. Tina brought a better routine to the Olympia than she did to the Fitness International. She benefited from a solid physique so it’ll be interesting to see how the rule change effects her placing.

Allison Ethier – Allison will make the trek from Canada and look to move into an Olympia qualifying spot. She started the 2010 year off with a rocky performance at the Fitness International but has battled back and been consistently in the top 6. She’ll be in the upper 1/2 of this line up and we’ll have to see if she can move up into a top three spot.

Debbie Fowler – Debbie will be making her IFBB debut. She turned pro in her first NPC national show (the 2010 NPC Jr. Nationals) and will look to find similar success as a pro. She was a consistent as an amateur and a welcome addition to the pro ranks.

Ryall Graber-Vasani – Ryall was 7th at the Europa Super Show in Dallas and will look to improve in Florida. She has the potential to be in the top five and could be a contender if she brings a solid routine.

Donna Jones – Donna has been part of the competitive landscape for some time. She had a career high at the 2008 Atlantic City with a sixth place finish. It will be a challenge for her to be in a top spot here but if her routine is solid don’t rule it out.

Tamee Marie – Tammee will be making her IFBB pro debut at this contest. Many women know her as one of the top suit makers in the business. Tammee’s biggest challenge will be to not over perform. She comes out with a ton of energy and a lot of power with her routine. If she can harness that energy she’ll have a successful debut.

Deana Martinez – It’s been a few years since we last saw her compete. She was the runner-up in the 2006 All-Star Fitness Pro and went on to compete in the 2006 Olympia. Deana turned pro at the 2004 NPC Nationals by winning the overall fitness title. She has an incredible physique and should be one of the tops in the physique round (if she brings what she did in ’06). Deana went by Deana Lee if you’re confused by the name. It’ll be good to see her back. She’s my dark horse to shake things up in this contest.

Michele Mayberry – Michele has been trying her hand in the Figure division lately and with minimal success. She has the potential to hold her own here and most of it will come down to the little details of her presentation. Hair, make up, tanning have been things that in my opinion held her back from moving up a spot or two. It’s good to see her back in the fitness division and I think she’ll find more success here than she did in Figure.

Venus Nguyen –
Venus will be making her pro debut after turning pro at this year’s 2010 NPC Team Universe. We’ll see how she fairs in her debut. The rule change could benefit her with more emphasis on the routine round.

Kary Odiatu – Kary is another season fitness pro. She’s been competing since 1995 and been up and down in her placings as an IFBB pro. It’s been a few years since we last saw the Canadian fitness pro compete. It will be good to see her back on stage and how the time off suited her. Welcome back Kary.

Minna Pajulahti – Minna will be making the trip from Finland to compete this weekend. She brings a good deal of muscle to the stage and it’ll be interesting to see how she compares to the other women in this line up. Minna’s last competition outing earned her 2nd place at the Arnold Amateur contest. That placing earned her IFBB pro status in Finland and this will be her pro debut.

Sylvia Tremblay – Sylvia has been in the middle of the pack in her last two contests. She’ll look to move into a top spot here and could with the new emphasis on the routines. She made her pro debut at this year’s Fitness International where she placed 13th and her last contest was the Dallas Europa where she landed in 7th. Another Canadian competitor who will look to leave with an Olympia qualification.

Kizzy Vaines – Kizzy is the defending Ft. Lauderdale Cup champion. She came out of no where last year to take the top spot. Her incredible flexibility is impressive to watch when it’s implemented in a routine that flows. The routine Kizzy did last year at this contest left everyone with their jaw to the floor. She’s since changed her routines and that haven’t matched what she brought to this stage last year. If she can bring a similar routine to the stage again she’ll have a good chance at repeating. If we see routines like those in the last couple of shows she’ll be on the outside looking in.

As you can see this fitness event has a number of cool story lines and will be exciting to see who lands on top. On paper… Tina Durkin, Nicole Duncan and Kizzy Vaines could be considered the favorites as they each competed in the Olympia this year. Can one of the rookies keep them from returning to the stage? How about the many comeback ladies, might one of them find their way into the top three? We’ll find out this weekend.

Follow all the action here on hardbody and on twitter throughout the week. This will be one fitness event not to miss. For more information on the show visit ftlauderdalecup.com. If you’re in the area be sure to check this show out. Shannon and Kristen do a tremendous job with this all women’s event.

Updated – Hardbody Preview: IFBB Kentucky Muscle Pro Figure

Only two IFBB Pro Figure shows remain for the 2010 calendar year. The IFBB Kentucky Muscle Pro competitor list continues to grow and three women will qualify for the 2011 Figure Olympia. It’s a perfect opportunity to snag a qualification before the holidays and take the pressure off in the new year. Promoter Brent Jones always does a solid job with this event and sure to do so once again. The action kicks off next Saturday, November 13, in Louisville, Kentucky.

{democracy:175}

The Hardbody Breakdown: (competitor list as of November 5, 2010)

Teresa Anthony – Teresa is on a roll since the Olympia. Narrowly missing first in Houston and then snagging the top spot in San Diego. She’s the one to beat in this show. She’s always done well at this show and I can’t see this year being any different. There was some rumblings she may not be doing the show despite being on the early lists. If she ends up not being in the line-up the door is open but as of now she’s the one to beat.

Elisha Archibold – We last saw Elisha at the Dallas Europa Super show. She’ll look to crack the top 10 here and could but it won’t be easy.

Tina Marie Bloomfield –
Tina hasn’t been on stage yet this year. We’ll have to see what improvements she’s made since the 2009 Atlantic City show where she was 16th.

Cheryl Brown – She’s back to defend her title from last year. Cheryl was the winner here in 2009 and continued to find the top 3 in her following three shows of 2010. She landed in the winners spot in New York but fell out of the top 10 at the Olympia. She’ll likely be in the top call-out again here but will have her work cut out for her to repeat as the champ.

Ava Cowan – Ava landed in the top three at the Border States and is already qualified for the 2011 Figure Olympia. The pressure is off her to qualify. Now she can use a show like this to fine tune the little things, like presentation and conditioning. I’d like to see her a little “less full” than she was in California. She should be a top contender in Kentucky.

Jennifer DeJoya – One of the stand out shorties while in the NPC ranks, Jennifer has been up in down with her placings in the IFBB. She carries a good deal of muscle and conditioning is the key to her success. If too hard, she’ll be on the outside looking in. A top five finish is a noteworthy goal and realistic for Jennifer.

Teresa Gillian – We haven’t seen Teresa in awhile and with good reason. Teresa took some time off and had a baby. Momma will return to the stage and look to pick up where she left off in 2008. She was 7th at the ’08 New York Pro and has the potential to be in the mix here. Welcome Back!

Valerie Haines – Val was 10th at this show last year and I could see her moving up this year. She has continued to refine her physique and if she can bring a tight back side she could be in the hunt.

Jacqueline Hoppe – This will be Jackie’s pro debut after taking home the overall title at this year’s Team Universe. We’ll have to wait and see how she stacks up in the pro ranks but she has the potential to do well straight out of the gate.

Ella Horton – Ella will be making her pro debut after earning pro status at this year’s Masters Nationals. She’ll look to show some of the younger competitors that age is just a number.

Charmayne Jackson – Another rookie making her debut. She took top honors in her class at the 2010 Team Universe. She has large quad development and packs a good deal of muscle on her frame. We’ll have to see how it compares to the others in this line up.

Candice Keene – Candice is having a break out year. She’s coming off a top ten finish at the Olympia and has two pro wins under her suit this year. If she is in shape she could be your winner. It will all come down to what type of conditioning she brings to the stage. She could collect win number three if it’s what she displayed in Jacksonville earlier this year.

Cea Anna Kerr – One of the lone Canadians in the line up, Cea Anna is back one again. She’s been competing for a few years and has yet to find her stride in the pro ranks. It will be challenging for her to crack the top spots here but a top 10 placing would be a victory for her, at least in my opinion.

Amy Lee Martin – Amy brought a new, refined look to this year’s Border States but was on the outside looking in on the top spots. She’ll look to make some fine tuning and get in the mix for a top spot here. A top 10 finish here would be an achievable goal for this show as she has yet to find it in the pro ranks. She was the 2008 Overall NPC USA Figure winner and her highest finish in the pros was last weekend.

Stephanie McDonald – Stephanie gutted it out in the NPC ranks the last few years coming close to a pro card a number of times before earning one this year. She’ll look to make a name for herself in her debut. Attention to the little details will help her at this show like hair, make up and stage presence.

Chelsey Morgenstern – Chelsey continues to refine her physique and improve her stage presence. She was 13th at the New York Pro and will look to improve on that showing at this event.

Emily Nicholson – Emily has a different type of structure than many of the other women in the pro ranks. She continues to work on her weak points and her posing can help her move up here.

Shalmieno Paper – She gets an award for one of the longest distance traveled. Shalmieno was out of the top 15 in this year’s Pittsburgh contest and will have her work cut out for her to move up here. If she can bring a little better condition and a different suit than the PA show she could.

Ann Pratt – Ann continues to improve her physique and she looks more and more at ease on stage. I like the improvements she’s made and could see her having her best showing of her career at this show.

Tiffany Procopio – Another rookie making her debut, Tiffany has a nice physique and carries a good deal of muscle. Her challenge is finding balance with her conditioning. Many times in the NPC ranks she was way too hard. We’ll see what type of physique she displays in her first pro show.

Danielle Reutter – Danielle is wasting no time jumping into the pro ranks after earning her pro card at this year’s NPC Nationals. She’s done a great job of fine tuning her physique and could be one of the highest placing rookies.

Natalia Revajova Lenartova – Natalia was on US soil earlier this year at the Arnold Amateur Figure event where she found gold. She’ll maker her IFBB Pro debut and look to continue where she left off.

Shala Singer –
Shala turned pro earlier this yea at the Team Universe event. She has nice shape. We’ll see if she can improve from her 14th place finish at the Border States, where she made her pro debut.

Mikaila Soto – Ms. Soto has an exotic look and has yet to find her stride since turning pro earlier this year. She has a good deal of muscle but continues to refine her physique. I look for her to bring her best package to date at this event.

Gennifer Strobo – Strobo is the X-Factor at this show. She could be your winner or she could be outside of the top three. She’s done a tremendous job of improving her physique since turning pro and has the challenge of being “full”. If she’s too small she looks stringy and it’s not a good look for her. If she can bring a full physique to the stage she’ll return to the Olympia in 2011.

Mavis Tozzi – It’s been a couple years since we’ve seen Mavis compete. The Floridian will return to the stage for the first time since having a baby. She has a nice physique and it will be good to see her back on stage.

Natalie Waples – I have to admit I was surprised at the physique Natalie brought to California. I didn’t think she’d carry enough muscle to hang in the top spots. I was wrong. Natalie showed she has a competitive physique for Figure and will be in the hunt at this show.

Sandie Ward – Sandie is back again after being out of the mix at the Border States. I’d like to see Sandie return to Fitness where I think she’d be more competitive.

Tina White – Tina will look to rebound from her showing at the Phoenix Pro earlier this year. Anything other than tied for 16th would be a step up for Tina in this show.

There you have it kids. My hardbody breakdown of next weekend’s show. Will we see Cheryl Brown repeat as the champ or will a new queen be crowned. If I was a gambling man I’d say we see a new champion announced next weekend. It will be interesting to see how the rookies do in their pro debuts. Who do you like for the win? Think someone has been getting over looked or is one to pay closer attention to? Give a shout out in the comments field.

New NPC Women’s Physique Division – Rules & Regulations

There’s been a lot deal of chatter online about a new women’s division in the NPC. People have been speculating who would succeed, who wouldn’t, what the rules are and on and on it went. Now we have some answers, well at least a beginning to a few of them.

** NOTE THESE WERE NOT FINAL** The final draft will come later this week.

WOMENS PHYSIQUE (WP)

DEFINITION:
Women’s physique division (herein referred to as “WP”) has been created to give a platform for women who enjoy weight training, competing and contest preparation. Competitors should display a toned, athletic physique showcasing femininity, muscle tone, beauty/ flow of physique.

JUDGING CRITERIA:

WP WILL BE JUDGED ON THE FOLLOWING CRITERIA:
* Symmetry, Shape, Proportion, Muscle Tone, Poise and Beauty Flow
* Physique assessment and comparison will take place during prejudging

Physique should display all of the above criteria without compromising femininity, beauty/ flow of physique, etc.

The following are examples of common terms used in the bodybuilding industry. These words can be helpful to assess what should not be descriptive to the physiques being judged in WP:

ex.ripped, shredded, peeled, striated, dry, diced, hard, vascular, grainy, massive, thick, dense, etc.

While all types of physiques will be considered when it comes to height, weight, structure, etc. excessive muscularity should be scored down accordingly.

WP should be judged as a standard between women’s bodybuilding.

JUDGING FORMAT:

PREJUDGING
– Individual one minute routine with 10 second warning
– Quarter turns
– mandatory posing comparisons/callouts

FINALS
Individual posing routine

AWARDS:
Who qualifies for professional status – at Junior USA and Junior Nationals the top two qualify for professional status, at all other National events including Team Universe, USA, North American and Nationals, the top three will qualify for pro status. We want to set the standard for 2010 at the Junior Events and therefore we are only qualifying the top two.

RULES:
*Suits worn by WP competitors for prejudging must be a two piece. Suits do not have to be solid in color. The bottom of the suit must be v-shaped. No thongs are permitted. Competitors can compete in an off the rack suit. All suits must be in good taste.

*Mandatory poses will be performed with open hand style and include the following poses:
– Front double biceps/ open hands (no flat footed full front pose – some sort of front twisting pose)
– Back double biceps/ open hands
– Side tricep with leg extended
– Side chest with arms extended
– Front ab/ thigh

*Finals routine will be maximum 90 seconds in length, performed to music of athletes choice adhering to rules set forth by the NPC.
*Music containing profanity or explicit language should not be used and may result in routine being cut short.
*No props will be used.
*No heels may be worn at any time during the competition/judging of WP

–Props FLEXonline.com for the assist on the above info.

What does this mean? Well it remains to be seen, like anything new. What will be rewarded and who will be the standard? The NPC JR USA will provide an answer to that or at least an indication of what’s to come. As of now there isn’t a Women’s Physique Division in the IFBB Pro League however that could and likely will change. The new division will likely be for women who are told they are too muscular for figure but too small for bodybuilding. Does this mean women’s bodybuilding is going away? No.

Ladies Want This Body? The Situation Cover

I’m not sure what to make of the newest Men’s Fitness cover. The issue features MTV’s Jersey Shore’s Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino on the cover. One call out says, “How to drink, party and get abs like these!” Now that’s funny considering he has a pretty lame set of abs to begin with. Another call out on the cover says “Don’t Hate! Your girl wants his body, too!” HAHAHA! Comedy at it’s finest.

On one hand you could say well the guy might encourage people to work out after seeing him on the cover but does partying and drinking really lead to great abs? Not so much. I give the guy props for making the most of his reality show shtick but to grace the cover of a fitness magazine… That’s a bit much. I’m not hating, I’m laughing.

Terri Irwin Pumps Iron Since Losing The Crocodile Hunter

Terri Irwin lost her husband Steve four years ago. Steve Irwin was a world famous character known to most as “The Crocodile Hunter”. She recently shared a story of how she turned to training to help better cope with her loss.

Terri Irwin hasn’t had it easy over the past four years. Since losing her beloved husband Steve in 2006 she’s worked tirelessly to promote the conservation work he dedicated his life to. But while she’s remained stoic in public, in private Terri desperately searched for solace in her darkest moments. That relief came in the form of body building.

“I really began training hard after losing Steve,” she reveals. “I discovered on my own that I could cope better with the crippling effects of grief by taking care of myself. Now I want to tell everyone that when the last thing you want to do is get up and get moving, that’s exactly what you should do.

“I’m better able to cope on an emotional level when I am healthy. Regular exercise definitely helps you cope with life’s dramas.”

And she’s certainly had her fair share of dramas recently. Last month Terri, 46, successfully prevented mining going ahead in Cape York’s Steve Irwin Wildlife Reserve, she’s mended her feud with father-in-law Bob and she’s busy being a single mum to Bindi, 12, and Robert, 6.

Terri credits her late husband Steve with inspiring her new fitness regime.“I wanted to make sure I could continue all the projects he’d started,” she says. Here Terri tells how lifting weights helps her deal with the trials of her everyday life.

There’s a video posted on http://womansday.ninemsn.com.au that accompanies the above text. Adults could learn a few things from Bindi Irwin. Her energy and confidence in answering questions is great. When asked how she feels, Bindi says, “Tip Top Terrific”. That’s awesome. Check it out, it’ll put a smile on your face.

La La Latona Takes Home Gold in Sacramento

The first pro bikini show on Sacramento soil is in the books and Vegas resident, Amanda Latona was crowned the winner. The win comes as no huge surprise for those who follow the bikini division.

Jessica Paxson-Putnam, Amanda Latona & Natalie Pennington celebrate.

The HardBody Breakdown
1. Amanda Latona – Amanda showcased her best look and presentation to date. If this version of Amanda would have been seen on the Olympia stage, who knows where she may have placed. No sense in dwelling on the past. The always stunning Latona brought confidence to the stage and it showed. She’ll take a little bit of time off before heading to Columbus for the Bikini International. Yes, she needs to get the invite first but you can bet that she’ll be a front-runner for the first ever Bikini International in March.

2. Jessica Paxson-Putnam – Jess stepped up her game here and put herself back in top consideration in the Bikini ranks. She had a flattering suit and one of the lone blondes to rise to the top in Bikini. She brought a tighter look than in the past and showcased her best look to date. As I mentioned in my preview, if she brought a tight booty to the stage you’d see her in a top spot. The booty was on point and she’ll be back on the Olympia stage in 2011. A case could be made for her to be one of the few invited to the Bikini International as well.

3. Natalie Pennington – Pennington’s exotic looks and quite confidence has won the judges over. She was a lock on the judge’s score cards for third and solidified herself as a top threat for any show she enters. I’d still like to see a rounder booty on her but hey the judges are liking what they see.

4. Laura Calderon – An impressive debut from Laura. She ditched the red bow suit from Nationals but I still wasn’t crazy about her suit choice here. She has the looks and the physique to be on the Olympia Bikini stage. It will come down to some fine tuning on the little details before we see her there. Solid start to her pro career.

5. Vanessa Prebyl – Vanessa is already heading to the Olympia with her third place finish in Houston but was looking to move up here. She slipped a bit and wasn’t quite as tight in the lower body as she was in Texas.

6. Leigh Brandt – The Canadian cutie made some improvements since the last time she competed in the States. I like her look and as she continues to polish her presentation you’ll see her move up in the bikini ranks.

7. Safiya Johnson – Safiya was improved here but could still be a bit tighter. If she tightens up she’ll move up but until then we’ll see her in the middle of the pack. She has the potential to move up though.

8. Jennifer Dietrick – I had Dietrick a lock for the top five heading into this show but she wasn’t quite tight enough to get there. One of the better booties in all of bikini.

9. Theresa Byrne – Not quite the debut Theresa was hoping for but the showing can help her improve for the next one. I look for her to refine some details and move up in the placings at future shows.

10. Sherlyn Roy – This wasn’t the same Sherlyn that fans saw in New York where she qualified for the Olympia. This was probably the worst we’ve seen her since making the switch from figure to bikini. Whatever she did for this show, she’ll want to avoid it and go back to the formula she used earlier in the year.

11. Nita Marquez – Nita made the switch from Fitness to Bikini and certainly has the personality to sass it up however her physique didn’t match up. Nita missed the mark here and found herself at the bottom of the pack.

Zara Pineda-Boorder made the trek down from Canada however she missed the prejudging portion of the show. Definitely not something any competitor wants to have happen. A reminder to all competitors that the show must go on. If you’re not there they can only wait so long for you. She did pose at the evening show but a bummer for her to miss the judging in the morning. I’m sure we won’t see her make that mistake again. Julia Aragon and Brooke Mora were both slated to be in the show but withdrew before the show.

What the Cluck… Chicken Nuggets or Not?

A few weeks ago, a blogger posted a photo claiming to uncover what chicken nuggets really look like. It’s made the rounds and if you haven’t seen it it’s pretty gross. Since that time various sites have been going bizerk over it but is the photo really processed chicken before it’s made into nuggets?

The site (referring to the the pink image shown above) states…

Say hello to mechanically separated chicken. It’s what all fast-food chicken is made from—things like chicken nuggets and patties. Also, the processed frozen chicken in the stores is made from it.

It turned my stomach and still does looking at it. Is this really what I’ve been eating all these years? Who hasn’t had a chicken nugget? They are practically a requirement at most school lunch programs.

Last week, I joined my 6-year old niece for her school lunch. We had a choice between beef stroganoff or “fish shapes”. I ventured for the beef stroganoff but the majority of kids in the first grade class went for the fish shapes. After witnessing the kids decisions, I’m convinced that Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution is onto something. He showed kids how chicken nuggets are made and despite seeing what they are made of kids still wanted them.

Back to the photo of the pink goop. Is it really chicken or something else? No one has confirmed for certain however, GOOD.com recently wrote about the topic. They did a great job of breaking down the photo & how nuggets are made. It’s much like the example shown above in the Jamie Oliver video. It’s definitely worth reading but be warned you may never eat another nugget again.

1. “It’s what you get when you grind an entire chicken through a sieve”
Close, but not quite. When a machine processes a whole chicken, there is quite a bit of meat left on the bones. To avoid wasting that meat—and money—the bones are run through a sieve-like device, but only to remove meat and other edible tissue (like tendon) from them. So, yes, there is a sieve, but the end result consists only of meat, not ground up bones or eyeballs.

So… Who wants a nugget?

NPC Competitor Tiffany Morgan Gets Some Local Love

Props to Tiffany Morgan! She was recently interviewed by her local newspaper regarding her NPC competitive accomplishments and dedicated training.  The Costal Courier published a story on the Team Bombshell member and it’s a perfect example of tapping into your local media for exposure .

“I just want to have a good time first,” she said. “That is the one thing that team Bombshell and my trainers teach me is to go out there and have fun. My goal, of course you want to win a trophy, but my biggest goal is to come in looking better than I did last time. I just want to improve each time.”

Check out the article here and good luck at the Ft. Lauderdale Cup, Tiffany.
