Manion will be in attendance along with writer/co-creator Ian Ascher but the one fans will really want to see at  Booth S067 is IFBB Figure Pro Kristal Richardson. No offense J.M. / Ian but that’s why I’d stop by. Kristal Richardson will be dressed as her character in this photo that mimics her cover.

Adela & Sonia had outfits designed to match what their comic alter-ego’s wear in the Iron Sirens pages. They were the talk & the hit of the convention. We will be looking to do future comicon’s in the future.

JM Manion has been working hard with his team on the second issue of Iron Sirens. You saw the cover of the debut issue here first. Now we’re giving you a sneak peek at the first five pages of the second issue. The issue will premiere at the 2008 Arnold Classic and will feature the introduction of a new villian. This new character is out to kick Adela Garcia’s booty. Will it happen? Who is the new character? I’ll give ya a hint. She’s another attractive IFBB pro. Adela and her villian will both be at the Arnold Classic. They will follow it up with a comic convention in April if all things go as planned. Iron Sirens writer, Ian Ascher will also be in attendance at the Pittsburgh Comic-Con.

“Iron Sirens” Comic Book Update

We caught up with J.M. Manion who has been working on a dream project for the past four years. The comic is now available in comic book stores and if your local comic shop doesn’t have it, be sure to ask for it.We asked him to give us a little more insight on how “Iron Sirens” came to be and this is what he shared. Enjoy…

———–

This is the fruition of a 4 year project. In a nutshell I was in contact with comic book writer Ian Ascher from Columbus, OH. I told him of my idea to have a comic book featuring real IFBB Pro’s in it. They would not have “super-hero” names but we’d use their own & trade off of that. Initially the trio consisted of 4-time Fitness Olympia/Fitness International winner Susie Curry, now 2-time Fitness Olympia/Fitness International winner Adela Garcia & Fitness International winner Jenny Worth. All 3 were going to be involved with their characters as Ian was going to write in some of their personalities & things from their real lives. The next step was getting an artist committed. Long story short, after going through about 3 artists that flaked out & did initial drawings of the girls we finally got to the rough draft phase of pages actually being drawn. It was then that Jenny Worth decided to drop out. Production was halted. So that we wouldn’t have to totally re-do the script I asked 3-time Figure International & Figure Olympia winner Jenny Lynn if she would be interested since she originally started out as a fitness competitor & got her pro card winning the NPC USA Fitness overall. She agreed & we were back on track with a new character likeness of Jenn Lynn replacing Jenny Worth. The comic was going to have a color cover & be black & white on the inside due to finances. The comic premiered at the Arnold Classic in 2005. The original name was “Project Diva: Trinity”. It was an instant success & we were planning the 2nd & 3rd books when we hit another few roadblocks.

Note: this was never intended to be a 1-shot book but a continuing series. Book 1 ends in a cliff-hanger.

Another artist flaked out but for a good reason. He was hired to work for Marvel Comics & had his own book too. Can’t blame him. Also, Susie Curry eventually retired.

Now another 2 years later the book is renamed “Iron Sirens” & is fully colored. Some of the dialog has been changed but it still features Adela, Jenny & Susie plus a cameo by a dorky photographer in the vein of Jimmy Olsen. Hmm? The book will be available towards the end of October so if everybody can go to their local comic book store & request it so the publisher sees interest, then this can continue. It is very important to get this new Issue # 1 bought.

We have book # 2 planned where Susie Curry will be phased out, (note: she will not be killed off), to be replaced by a new Iron Siren. If all goes well, book # 2 will be ready for the 2008 Arnold Classic. Book #3 would wrap up the story arc. The book #4 would start a new adventure for the Iron Sirens. Hopefully there will be 4 issue’s in 2008 & again, if it sells well enough it can go to 6 issue’s in 2009 & eventually a monthly. That’s why I want to stress the importance of getting Issue #1 bought to show that our sport can & will support a comic book based on real athletes.

As things go, the artist was signed to an exclusive deal for a major comic book publisher so we will have a new artist for the next book but that’s not uncommon in the comic book world.

The goal is to feature more real IFBB fitness & figure athlete’s as both heroes & villians in future installments. I’d also like to feature some of the IFBB pro men too if they’d be willing.

Another thing to note is that all of this was dreamed up by me long before the t.v. series “Heroes” was ever heard of. Using real life characters & their super-powers. About the only nod we have to other super-heroes is that the girls do wear outfits when doing battle with their enemies.

I see my role as more of an Executive Producer as I have financed all of this on my own. Trust me, it’s not cheap, but I believe in the product. I also oversee Ian’s scripts; he & I share ideas. Ian is in charge of the writing as I said but he has also been the one trying to get us the best comic book artists to work for us. Again – not cheap. He is also the liaison with the publisher.

Below are a few samples of pages 2 & 4 in their drawing stages & then colorized. The dialog has not been added in yet.

———–

Thanks J.M. for the update. We hope the venture is a success for everyone involved.

Olympians Host New Online Radio Show

The newest addition to the online radio world comes via the growing community at RXmuscle.com. The site has enlisted the help of Olympians Jenny Lynn and Adela Garcia as the hosts of their new online radio show, Muscle Girls Inc.

musclegirlsinc

From RXmuscle.com:
After weeks of phone calls and meetings, J.M. Management, ALR Industries, and RX Muscle are proud to anounce the re-launch  of Muscle Girls Inc. featuring dynamic co-hosts: Adela Garcia (4x Ms. Fitness Olympia & 2x Ms Fitness International)  Jenny Lynn (2x Ms. Figure Olympia & 3x Ms. Figure International). Adela is currently tied with Susie Curry for the most Ms. Fitness Olympia titles and is looking to break that record later this year (as well as adding a third win to her Fitness International streak in early March).

I’m all for anything that promotes women in a positive manner. I caught up with J.M. Manion regarding the announcement and he shared the following statement.

At this time of the year I kind of take a break from what’s going on in the sport & focus on other things, like catching up on work. So I was a little surprised to hear from Dave Palumbo in late December that he wanted to talk to me about an idea he had for the Muscle Girls Inc. web radio show. I had been a guest on it once & found it to be a good show & had fun with co-hosts Colette Nelson & Krissy Chin. What I didn’t expect to hear was Dave’s pitch to have Adela Garcia & Jenny Lynn as the new co-hosts. Apparently there were some personal issues that happened with Dave & Colette, his former girlfriend, that I didn’t ask about & feel that is his business anyway. Dave said that he was totally revamping the entire Muscle Girls Inc. Again, since it is Dave’s show it is his call. I do want to thank Colette & Krissy for inviting so many of the athletes we manage to be on the show during their time there. We all appreciated them for that.

I thought the idea of pairing the 2 multi-Olympia & multi-International champions was great because of their status in the sport but also because they are friends & have a natural rapport with each other. It was also great for me since they are 2 of the stars of my Iron Sirens Comic Books which will have commercials running during the program & should boost awareness of the ongoing series. The only hold up was since it was the holidays to try to connect with Adela, who was out of the country at the time, & Jenny since we all had busy schedules. Once Adela, Jenny & I all connected they were excited about the project & immediately said yes. I relayed the news to Dave & next thing I know he & John Romano are asking for photos of Adela & Jenny & quotes from everybody. It’s kind of on the fast track now & will be starting next month. So tune in because I’m sure it’s going to be fun! I want to personally thank Dave & John for approaching us to use Adela & Jenny & look forward working with them & Jeff The Producer for a successful show.

When I spoke with Adela she shared her enthusiasm as well. She said, “It’s going to be fun brother. I’m looking forward to it.” One thing is for sure, you can count on Adela to provide a little comedy. Jenny Lynn shared on the RXmuscle forums, “Adela and I have been friends and competed together for 10 years now and are super excited about hosting this show together!! Listen each week and if anyone has any ideas for athletes you want us to interview or subjects you’d like us to cover…..let us know and we’ll try to make it happen.”

Adela & Sonia Take On Steel City Con

IFBB Pro Adela Garcia and Sonia Gonzalez will head to Pennsylvania this weekend for the Steel City Con. This Toy, Comic and Pop culture convention takes place December 4, 5 & 6. The ladies will be in costume representing the IRON SIRENS comic book. For more information visit www.steelcitycon.com.

Preview Photos of Jenny Lynn’s Return

The one time Ms. Figure Olympia, Jenny Lynn is looking to get back on top after slipping to fourth at last year’s Olympia. Jenny was in attendance at the Teen Collegiate Master’s Nationals where she was dressed as her IRON SIRENS character. She swapped outfits and dawned the posing to suit. Here’s a sneak peak at what she looks like two weeks out from her return to the stage.

jennylynn1.jpg

jennylynn.jpg
Jenny Lynn two weeks out.

Jenny is already qualified to compete at this year’s Ms. Figure Olympia where she looks to regain her title. In my opinion, she looks better in this photo – two weeks out, then she did at last year’s Olympia. We’ll have to wait and see how she fairs in a couple weeks but it looks like she’s back on track. Thanks to J.M. Manion for providing the above images.

IFBB stars hit comic convention

Adela Garcia, Sonia Adcock, Jenny Lynn and Jennifer Gates made an appearance last weekend in Columbus, Ohio. They were there representing IRON SIRENS at the Mid-Ohio-Con 2008. I was told it was quite the different crowd from bodybuilding/fitness expos and there were a few characters in attendance. Super Hero Adela’s knee was bothering her and had to find the nearest wheelchair. Two weekends in a row for Adela in a wheelchair… perhaps she’ll relax a bit now that the competitive season is over for the most part.

Updates from Cleveland

The show is about to begin in Cleveland. Stay tuned for updates today through out the show. Photos will be posted here after prejudging.

I hit some morning cardio at the hotel gym and who do I see but top figure Olympian, Jenn Gates. Jenn was doing a circuit cardio session before this morning’s prejudging. She looks great and definitely on track to do well at the Atlantic City show. She’s here in Cleveland working the booth for JM Manion’s IRON SIRENS comic book. Ms. Figure Olympia Jenny Lynn is also sitting at the booth along with writer/co-creator Ian Ascher. Issue # 3 debut here and it is pretty kick ass. If you’re interested in ordering it you can do so here. I’ll post up some drawings and pages from the newest issue soon.

The airline lost Jenn’s luggage and it didn’t arrive until this morning. A reminder to all of you traveling you never know what may happen with the airlines. Pack your suits with ya if you’re competing. Now that I’ve provided my travel tip for the day, it’s time to get to prejudging.

IFBB North Americans Kick Off

Competitors from across North American converged on Cleveland, Ohio this weekend. I arrived in Cleveland last night and met up with super star trainer Kim Oddo and one of his clients, Elissa Schlichter. The two made the trip from California, while I ventured in from Denver. We hit traffic a few miles out from the hotel and it turns out it was because of the NFL game taking place. GO BEARS!

Living in Denver, I get spoiled with no humidity and it is definitely a change in the weather for this cat. It’s a bit overcast but the sun is scheduled to appear this weekend. The hotel is old but nice. Everyone checking in received a handout explaining the rules, where to order photos, a schedule and info on a local gym. One thing of note was the direct mention of no shooting in the hotel lobby or on the grounds. The various physique photographers will have to get creative with where they shoot and you may end up seeing a number of hotel room photos from this weekend.

Two of the top figure pros are on their way in to work a booth for IRON SIRENS, JM’s comic book. Jen Gates and Jenny Lynn with both be in attendance. My Canadian figure pro, Debbie Leung is in town to check out the show after she trained with Mike Davies for a few days.

Stay tuned for more info throughout the show. The women don’t go on stage until tomorrow.

Felicia Romero & JM Manion on Fitness & Figure Talk Radio

The best online radio show for fitness and figure competitors hands down can be found on Bodysport.com. Hosts Elaine and Terry Goodlad are both very good at interviewing their guests and do an excellent job with each show. This week’s show they brought on one of the industry’s veterans, JM Manion. JM cleared the air on what his management company does for women and the benefits of being under a management contract. He also discussed how the IRON SIRENS comic book came to fruition and what’s in store for the next issues. IFBB Figure sensation and rising star in fitness modeling, Felicia Romero joined the radio show to discuss a variety of things. I was very impressed with Felicia’s demeanor on the show, she was poised and very confident. It’s no easy feat to come across that professional when on a radio show. Felicia talked about modeling, competing, dieting, home buying tips and more. This is one woman who should be under an edorsement contract and I’d highly encourage any one looking for a true spokesperson to get in touch with JM and sign her. You’ll be hard pressed to find someone who is young (she’s 25), articulate, professional and able to not only compete but also model. She’s going places and it is much deserved. Check out her new web site at feliciaromero.com. This is definitely a show worth listening to and I’m sure you’ll gain a newfound respect for both JM and Felicia after listening to the show.

Video Interview with IFBB Pro Sonia Adcock

I caught up with Sonia Adcock at the Fit Expo last weekend and whoooo daddy does she look good. Watch out Arnold competitors, this is the best we’ve seen her. Sonia is now with GNC and was at the Fit Expo working their booth. Fans will be able to see her on stage in one week and she’ll also be working the GNC booth at the Arnold Expo. Don’t forget, she is also the new villain in the IRON SIRENS comic book. Check out the candid video with her on bodybuilding.com.

Kristal Richardson Storms the Pittsburgh Comicon

IFBB Figure pro Kristal Richardson is sitting just days out from the 2009 Figure Olympia. Over the weekend, she put on her alter-ego outfit and headed to Pittsburgh for the city’s Comicon. Here’s a peek at what you can expect Kristal to look like in Vegas. She’ll have to trade in the holster and boots for heels and a swimsuit but you can see how her physique is looking.
