Prejudging Report – 2013 Europa Show of Champions Bikini

The 2013 IFBB Europa Show of Champions Pro Bikini prejudging took place on Friday afternoon in Orlando, Florida. The competition didn’t have any “big names” so to speak which meant the door was wide open for someone to step up and qualify for the Olympia. The prejudging went quick and a reminder to all competitors you only get a couple minutes to make an impression on the judges.

HARDBODY PREJUDGING 411:
These are just opinions and not indicative of the final placings, which will be held on Saturday at 3pm.

Maria Annunziata –
She’s improving her stage presence. Not sure if the suit color was the best choice with her tan. Could have used different suit or different color tan. She was in the first call-out and will likely be top five but didn’t see it that way. She’s a little too soft from behind and needs to come in tighter in the legs and booty to be in my top five.

Maura Bouchard – Maura competed in just her second show and if she is patient she can steadily improve. She’s one of the smaller women on stage and needs more muscle and fullness to her. She seemed to be over-thinking her posing instead of just rolling with it. It doesn’t look like she’ll be top five this time around.

Danielle Carr – One of the taller competitors and her challenge will be not looking to straight up and down in her posing. She wasn’t super confident in her posing and if she can take the stage a bit more poised and polish her presentation she could move up.

Jennifer Dawn – One of Jennifer’s better looks in recent contests but didn’t get much love with the comparisons. I would have put her higher than where she’ll finish and thought it was one of her better presentations to date. She has larger boobs which can be distracting in some people’s opinion but can’t see that being the cause for her not placing higher. She’ll be top ten but wouldn’t argue if she had been top five.

Lacey DeLuca – Lacey looked like she always does… A nice look in the upper body but soft and not conditioned in the lower half. It’s likely a genetic battle she’ll always face with a bigger booty. She presents herself well in the individual round but needs to bring the legs and booty down to be a contender. She won’t be top five this time around.

Ashley Kaltwasser – Ashley will likely finish second and has a physique I’ve always liked. She’s one of the more athletic looking competitors and this is just her second pro show. As she progresses she could be a top pro. I’d like to see a little different eye make-up and a better tan. Her tanning color was a bit off and the eye make-up a bit too much. She’ll need to polish up her posing but watch for her to be in the top spots as she refines the little details.

Courtney King – Courtney will be king err queen of this stage. She improved her posing from her pro debut and looked spot on. She has long legs and looks much taller on stage then she really is. She’s definitely one of the rising stars in the division and she’ll leave your winner, at least that’s how I see it. I’d like to see her continue to put on a little size in her upper body but she has time on her side.

Nathalie Mur – Nathalie Mur looked much better than her Daytona showing a couple weeks ago. I would place her higher than she’ll finish and with Nathalie it’s more about her presentation than physique that needs polished. If she present with a bit more confidence she’d get a better look.

Sabrina Nicole – Sabrina will be at the bottom of the pack this time around. She has more muscle than most in this line-up and needs to be a bit sharper to be a contender. Sabrina has the potential to do well she just needs to dial in her conditioning to get in the top spots.

Noemi Olah – Noemi was back on stage in the USA but won’t finish in the top spots. She’s a beautiful women and if the judging was based on facial looks she’d be a winner in any show. It’s more than just a pretty face and she won’t be in the mix this time. Noemi’s tan was too light and she was too soft for this line-up. Still one of my favorite competitors when she’s tighter and the details are on point.

Jessica Renee – Jessica has lots of potential and just needs little tweaks to improve. I’d like to see her come in with big pageant style curly hair (ie Jennifer Andrews style) and a different colored suit. Her tan seemed a bit splotchy. She won’t be top five but could in future shows with some minor adjustments.

Aly Veneno – Aly will likely be your third place finisher. She was much more relaxed and poised than the Daytona show. She had make-up and a tan that matched and it’s those details that can help make or break where you finish. I’d like to see her work on the timing of her presentation. She tends to over pose and stage on stage longer than needed. She could have been a little tighter in the glutes but overall not a bad showing.

Ashley Wade – I like Ashley’s look and the curly hair. Ashley will be in the middle of the pack here and would have argued if she finished higher. She’s one competitor that for some reason gets lost in the mix.

Nicole Witbeck – Nicole was one competitor I thought should have been top five in Daytona and while she didn’t finish in the top spots there she should here. Look for her to be in the fourth of fifth spot. She’s one of the few blondes in the division and has a nice, balanced physique. Only critique here would be to bring a different look with her hair. She could pull off the big pageant curls instead of the straight hair. Silly, to talk about hair in a physique competition, right? I know.

Brittany Young – Brittany will be in the top 10 and had one of her best looks to date. She is another tall competitor who towers over some of the others. This was her best showing as a pro and should be happy with what she presented.

Francesca Yumul – Francesca kinda flew under the radar heading into this show but turned some heads on stage. This is just her second pro show, the muscle contest being her first. She’ll be in the top ten and has a look that catches your attention. She’ll move up with a little more stage time and improve presentation.

I see it going…
1. Courtney King
2. Ashley Kaltwasser
3. Aly Vaneno

The winner will leave with an Olympia qualification and the 2-4 finishers will get points in the Olympia Point Series. We’ll find out the results Saturday afternoon. There was also Women’s Physique, Men’s physique and Men’s 212 Bodybuilding at this show. The expo held in conjunction with the pro show is huge with many events, including a NPC show. If interested in purchasing NPC photos you can do so here and see more photos from the event on bodybuilding.com.

2013 IFBB Europa Show of Champions – Orlando Pro Competitor Lists

The IFBB Pro League is in action once again this weekend and the competitors are showing up in a big way. The newest division to the pros, men’s and women’s physique, are blowing up with entrants. Perhaps it’s because of the addition to the Olympia but whatever the reason, props to them. Over 80 competitors have sent in their contracts to compete at the IFBB Europa Show of Champions in Orlando, Florida.

orlando-pro

The event is held in conjunction with a NPC event, growing expo and countless other events. Ed and Betty Pariso continue to grow this event and look for this to be one of the most competitive shows of the year in the Women’s Physique division. Patricia Mello is coming off a win at the LA Grand Prix and the pressure is off her to qualify for the Olympia. She’ll face a much tougher line-up here ad will have her work cut out for her on a repeat. Courtney King will look to move into the winner’s circle in the bikini division after a second place finish in her pro debut. The one to watch that many didn’t seem coming at the Battle on The Beach show is Nicole Witbeck. She has a great bikini body and should be in the top spots if she looks the same as last month.

The Men’s Physique and Men’s Bodybuilding 212 will also be part of the IFBB competition. For more information visit www.europaexpo.com.

NEWS RELEASE
Arnold Classic Brasil to debut in April 2013

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Arnold Sports Festival is coming to South America.

The first-ever Arnold Classic Brasil will be held April 26-28 in Rio de Janeiro and will feature IFBB Pro League men’s bodybuilding, a complete lineup of amateur bodybuilding events and a fitness expo.

Arnold Classic Brasil is a joint venture between Gov. Schwarzenegger, Arnold Sports Festival co-promoter Jim Lorimer, International Federation of Body Building president Rafael Santonja, and Savaget Promotions of Sáo Paulo, Brazil.

“We are very excited to take the Arnold Sports Festival model to South America in 2013,” Lorimer said. “The creation of the first Arnold Classic Europe in Madrid in October 2012 proved that there was great demand worldwide for the Arnold Sports Festival concept, and we look forward to continuing our globalization efforts in Rio de Janeiro next year.”

The Arnold Classic Brasil will feature professional men’s bodybuilding sanctioned by the IFBB Pro League and amateur contests sanctioned by the International Federation of Body Building. Additional sports and contests will be announced in the near future.

The Arnold Classic Brasil will partner with the Rio Sports Show, held annually in Rio de Janeiro, to create a health and fitness expo that will attract more than 35,000 attendees. The expo will feature the latest in equipment, sports nutrition, apparel and accessories. An accompanying “Fight Pavilion” will feature the latest in mixed martial arts and other combat sports.

Organizers hope the Arnold Classic Brasil will build on the success of the Arnold Sports Festival, which began as the Arnold Classic professional men’s bodybuilding competition in 1989 and has grown to include more than 18,000 athletes competing in more than 45 sports and events each year. The Arnold Classic Europe debuted in October 2011 and will return in October 2012.

The Arnold Sports Festival
The Arnold Sports Festival is the largest multi-sport festival in the nation featuring 18,000 athletes competing in more than 45 sports and events, including 12 Olympic sports, and the 700-booth Arnold Fitness EXPO. The Arnold Sports Festival was founded in 1989 by California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and Jim Lorimer of Worthington, Ohio. The Arnold Sports Festival attracted a record 175,000 attendees to Columbus over four days in 2012. The 2012 Arnold Classic Europe will be held Oct. 12-14 in Madrid, Spain and the 2013 Arnold Sports Festival will be held Feb. 28-March 3, 2013 in Columbus, Ohio USA. 2013 IFBB Pro Women’s Physique Division Returns to LA

The IFBB Women’s Physique Division will make its 2013 debut this weekend in Los Angeles, California. The division is the newest addition to the the IFBB Pro League and as this year progresses we should see it develop a bit more than last year. Last year was the first season for the pro division and every show featured a variety of physiques. We saw Figure competitors moving up in size and bodybuilders trying to downsize. Fitness competitors no longer wanting to take a beating on their physique with the routines also tried their hand at the division.

women-physique
Generally speaking, the Figure pros moving up with a bit more size came out on top. The direction the division headed was a figure competitor with more muscle. This meant more size than a figure competitor but maintaining good shape, balance and symmetry. You’ll also see women who have healthy looking skin and a feminine look place better. This weekend will help set the direction for the division.

Sara Hurrle will not be back to defend her title and will be making her 2013 debut at the new Colorado Mile High Pro show in June. Patricica Mello was runner-up last year and will be looking to take the top spot this year. Look for Tycie Coppett, Karin Hobbs (formerly Kimura) and Jill Rudison to be in the hunt if they are all in shape. Toni Perdikakis can be in the mix if she comes in conditioned as well. Don’t rule out a strong finish by California girl Venus Nguyen either.

IFBB Pro Women’s Physique Competitors:
1. Debbie Barrable (Alberta, Canada)
2. Tycie Coppett (Johns Creek, Georgia)
3. Susan Graham (Paso Robles, California)

The Men and Women’s Physique Division will be held during the Olympia Weekend for the first time, so every competitor is out to win or finish with points in the Olympia Point Series.

2013 FIBO Power Germany Pro Women’s Fitness Preview

Ten IFBB Fitness Pros will take the stage at the 2013 FIBO Power this weekend in Cologne, Germany. Competing outside of the USA can be a challenge for some competitors but with plenty of rest most adapt before show time. This is one of the few opportunities for the Fitness Pros to qualify for the Olympia by either winning or collecting points in the Olympia Point Series. We’ll see a mix of seasoned veterans and relative newcomers to the stage.

fibo-fitness

HARDBODY 411:
Bethany Cisternino – Bethany has one of the best physiques in the IFBB Pro Fitness divisions. If she brings a similar look to the stage that she did in Columbus, she’ll take top honors in the 2-piece round. She has a much stronger routine than in years past. If she’s far enough ahead of Regiane after the two-piece round, she should take top honors at the end of the night.

Regiane DaSilva – Regiane has the home turf advantage. She tends to fair better at European shows and her routine is like the Energizer Bunny… she just keeps going and going and… She’ll likely finish in the top spots but where is the question. She has the potential to win the show based on her routine but if she’s not in the middle of the pack heading into the routine round she could be in the 3-5 range.

Nicole Duncan – Loads of potential. Potential is a word that continues to be attached to Nicole. She has the ability to win the show if she comes in shape and brings a routine that is at the level we’ve seen her perform before. She wasn’t at her best conditioning for the Arnold last month and seemed a bit gassed during her routine. Nicole’s had a month to tighten things up and I look for her to be in much better shape and be in the mix for a top spot here. Redemption Road for this Georgia peach.

Ryall Graber-Vasani – Ryall has a good physique that continues to improve. If she can add more strength moves and perform a more fluid routine than in the past, she will be a contender. Look for her to be in the top half of the 2-piece round and then battle for a top spot in the routines round.

Amanda Hatfield – Amanda is coming off the Arnold where she was welcomed to the next level. She has the ability to hold her own and her gymnastic skills are amazing. If she brings a more poised and controlled routine to the stage and puts the jitters aside she’ll improve from her Columbus finish.

Whitney Jones – Whitney Jones closed out 2012 with a strong showing in the division and will look to pick up where she left off. The little details with Whitney are what will make or break her. Things like her tanning, presentation and not coming in too vascular and hard. It’s a balancing act with her physique and genetically she appears to always be vascular. She has strong skills in her routine and if she’s cleaned it up a bit and performs without little stumbles, she will be int he mix.

Somkina Liudmila – Somkina will have her work cut out for her at this show. She doesn’t have quite the physique that the others do in this line up so she’ll likely be playing catch up after the two-piece round. She has the ability to make up some ground in the routine portion of the competition.

Diana Monteiro – Diana is another competitor that often places better at European shows. She was third at the Arnold Europe and was second at the FIBO show in 2011. Look for her to be the dark horse to shake things up in the top five. She will likely be somewhere in the middle of the group in the 2-piece round but could move into the top five with a strong routine.

Babette Mulford – This will be Babette’s introduction into the pro league. She achieved pro status at the 2012 Team Universe and if she brings a similar look to FIBO she will hold her own. Little details could make the difference in the two-piece round like suit cut and posing. She flies high and really goes for it in her routine.

Kizzy Vaines – Kizzy is another competitor who could be in the top spots or the bottom of the pack and it all depends on what she brings to the stage. Again it’s the details that make the difference with her presentation and posing. She has the most insane flexibility in her routines and she’s coming off a 7th place finish at the Arnold. The show wasn’t her best but when she is at her best she’s a contender.

2013 Battle on the Beach IFBB Pro Bikini Preview

The inaugural Battle on the Beach takes place this Saturday in Daytona Beach, Florida. This women’s only event will showcase some of the rising stars in the NPC and IFBB bikini ranks. The NPC portion will feature bikini, fitness, figure and physique. The IFBB portion will feature only the IFBB Bikini division. Ten pros have signed up to compete and while it’s not the biggest line-up of the year it will be a competitive show. Pollianna Moss and Nathalie Mur have both competed at the Olympia but will have their work cut out for them against rookies like Courtney King. Aly Veneno is on a mission for her first pro win and could be the one to beat.

battle-on-beach

The HARDBODY 411:

2013 Battle on the Beach IFBB Pro Bikini
Gigi Amurao Gigi turned pro at the 2012 North Americans and wasted no time getting into pro competitions. She finished third in her IFBB debut at the Ft. Lauderdale Cup and followed that up with a fifth and seventh place finish. She’s had a little bit off time off since her last show and it should suit her well. Look for Gigi to be in the top call-out and in the mix for a top three spot here. View her contest photos here.

Maura Bouchard Maura will be making her IFBB Pro debut after a successful run in the NPC ranks. She successfully petitioned for her IFBB Pro card based on her amateur placings. Maura’s biggest challenge will be coming in full and not looking too stringy. She can look a bit too thin in the mid-section so if she’s able to bring a physique that’s full she will hold her own on this stage. View Maura’s contest photos here.

Courtney King Courtney will be making her IFBB Pro debut this weekend and has the potential to be one of the rising stars in the pro division. She’s cute and bubbly on stage but not over the top. If she put on a little bit of muscle since last summer and comes in with a fuller look she’ll be in the top spots. Courtney turned pro at the 2012 NPC USAs in Las Vegas. Keep your eye on her, she’ll be one to watch in the months ahead. View Courtney’s Contest photos here.

Michon Leddy Michon continues to improve her physique from show to show. She has yet to crack the top five but as long as she keeps improving, that’s progress. Michon’s biggest challenge is bringing her backside in tighter. If she can bring a tighter booty and present with a little more curve from the back she could improve on her placings. View Michon’s photos here.

Pollianna Moss Pollianna turned pro at the 2012 NPC JR USAs and made an immediate splash by winning her pro debut at the Toronto Pro. She’s been in the mix of each show since and was 13th at the Olympia. She’s a shorter competitor with a bit more muscle than others in this line-up. It will be interesting to see how she compares to others as the muscle could either hurt or help her in this show. View Pollianna’s contest photos here.

Nathalie Mur Nathalie is one of the taller competitors in this group and will be making the trip all the way from France. She’ll need to come in a bit tighter with her conditioning than we’ve seen her in the past. She has the potential to be in the top spots but it will come down to her conditioning and if she presents with confidence. We saw her take the stage with confidence early in her competition career and she’s the one of the only competitors in this line-up to compete in the Olympia. View Nathalie’s photos here.

Jessica Renee Jessica has a great look and the potential to do well. She was 15th at the 2012 Valenti Gold Cup but a case could be made for her to finish much higher. This will be her second pro show and if she brings a similar look to the stage she’ll be a contender. Jessica will make the trip up from Miami Beach and look for her to be in the top spots. View Jessica’s photos here.

Aly Veneno Aly was fifth in her IFBB Pro debut last December. She’ll be a likely contender for the top spot at this show. She has a balance physique and isn’t short on confidence when she takes the stage. The only thing she’ll need to watch is not “over posing” with excitement. The has an advantage of the show being in Florida and will be able to avoid airport stress. View Aly’s photos here.

Ashley Wade Ashley has a healthy, fresh look and catches your attention from the moment she steps on stage. She turned pro at the 2012 NPC Nationals and was in 8th at the World’s Pro in December. If she can bring her legs in a little bit smaller and her glutes a bit tighter she’ll do well here. She has muscular legs which can slightly hurt her placings against the less muscular women. View Ashley’s pics here.

Nicole Witbeck Nicole will make the trip from California to compete in her second pro show. She’ll be the lone blonde in the line-up and will look to improve upon her 15th place finish at the Muscle Contest Pro Bikini. She turned pro at the NPC USAs and doesn’t have a lot of stage time due to turning pro in her first national show. If she can bring a tighter lower body from her pro debut she’ll be in the mix. View Nicole’s contest photos here.

2013 IFBB Governor’s Cup Pro Figure Preview

Twenty IFBB Figure Pros have sent in their contracts to compete at the second annual IFBB Governor’s Cup in Sacramento, California. Last year’s winner, Heather Dees is back to defend her title and positioned as a favorite for the win. Mallory Haldeman will be competing in her third show of the year coming off a third place finish at the Australian Pro.

govcup

Look for Haldeman and Dees to be your top two but anything could happen. Nicole Sims will look to get back in the hunt of things after finishing out of the top ten at her IFBB Pro debut. She was the 2012 NPC Nationals Champion and could be in the top 10 here. Monica Labriola, Victoria Aldus, Carin Hawkins and Wendy Fortino could all be contenders for a top six spot.

Shows like this make it interesting for the fans as things could end up any number of ways in the placings. We’ll be there covering all the action this weekend.

New Zealand Pro Bikini Preview

The 2013 New Zealand Pro will take place on March 16, 2013 and if you haven’t heard much about it you’re not alone. There are currently 5 competitors slated to compete and until a few days ago there were only two. We can speculate why there are so few competitors in this show but it’s a safe bet that with most IFBB Bikini Pros residing in the USA… flight ticket prices played a huge part in taking a pass at this show. It’s a safe bet that Nicole Nagrani will leave New Zealand the winner. Unless she went on some type of crazy eating spree since her second place finish at the Australia Pro last week she’s the favorite in the show. Pollianna Moss will likely end up in second and collect a few more points towards the Olympia Point Series. She was in fourth at last weekend’s Australia Pro. Elyse Inglis and Jessica Pendergrast will get a chance to compete in their homeland and represent New Zealand. Amy Wright rounds out the field and representing Australia.

Hardbody Preview: 2013 St. Louis Pro Figure & Bikini Competitors

The 2013 St. Louis Pro will feature the women of the Figure and Bikini division this weekend in St. Louis, Missouri. The competitive pro show will be held in conjunction with a NPC show promoted by Jack and Ann Titone. The pre-judging begins at 11am on Saturday, March 16th and the finals kick off at 6pm. The line-ups feature a few familiar names and a number of newbies to the stage.

st-louis-bikini

HARDBODY 411:
Look for Aleisha Hart and Alea Suarez to be the odds-on favorites for the top two spots. Alea looked on the money at the Figure International despite placing lower than she would have liked. Aleisha is also coming off competing at the Figure International where she placed 12th. Angela Coleman will be making her pro debut this weekend and doing so in her hometown. She could be the dark horse to make her presence know in the pro ranks. Natalie Waples will also be one to watch in the top call out. She’s coming off an appearance at the 2013 Figure International and will look to get back in the mix. Another rookie to the stage and one who could be in the hunt is Victoria Adelus. Victoria was second at the 2012 Team Universe and if she can bring in slightly tighter glutes and hamstrings than that show she could find herself in the top five. Monica Labriola packs a lot of muscle on her little frame and will need to be a bit downsized from her December showing at the Pro World competition. Tanya Weinle will be making her pro debut after achieving pro status at the 2012 NPC Nationals where she finished second in her class.

The Bikini division has a variety of physiques and one that will leave the judges with their hands full. Two-time champ, Jennifer Andrews is back looking to make it three in a row. She has to be the favorite coming into this show and the one to beat. Look for Crystal Green to be in the mix with her in the first call-out. Crystal made her presence known at the 2012 Iowa Pro shortly after turning pro at the NPC Nationals. Noy Alexander is a fan favorite but may have a bit more muscle than the judges a liking. Cristina Liberatore may also have this problem but if she brings improved posing she could be in the hunt. Jessica Arevalo continues to refine her physique and gain more confidence on stage. Namin Assria is one of the smallest competitors in the pro bikini ranks and will look to get back in the top five after missing it in Cali last weekend. Monique Gantt continues to refine her physique and one you’ll likely see in the top five here. Angela Skeels made her pro debut at the MuscleContest last week where she finished tied for 16th. She’ll look to get her groove back here in her second pro show. Crystal Matthews is coming off a third place finish at the MuscleContest and will look to keep her momentum going.

2013 Muscle Contest Pro Bikini Competitor Lists & Preview

This Saturday in Culver City, twenty-four women will compete for the the MuscleContest.com Pro Bikini title. This will be a competitive show as there is no odds-on favorite to take top honors. The judges will have their work cut out for them as they compare seasoned veterans with rookies making their pro debuts. The majority of the women competing are from California so the home stage advantage can be tossed out the window on this one.

musclecontest-bikini
Noy Alexander and Tiffany Marie Boydston are coming off the Bikini International and will both look to improve from last week. Narmin Assria and Brittany Tacy have both been in the winner’s circle before and should be top contenders once again. Talia Terese is arguably one of the most beautiful competitors in the IFBB Pro League but has yet to match her winning look at the 2011 NPC USAs. Talia won the overall at the 2011 NPC USAs and has come in either too hard or too soft as a pro. If she can bring the 2011 NPC USA look she should be in the top spots. Leigh Brandt the original Canadian Cutie will make the long trek from Canada to compete and try to crack the top five. Joining her in representing Canada will be Anna Lee Van Hatten.

Jessica Arevalo has steadily improved her stage presence and brings an improved physique each time. Her challenge will be not appearing too muscular on stage. Taylor Matheny has one of the best physiques in the pro bikini division. If she can bring improved stage presence to the stage she’ll be a top contender in this and future shows. Angela Skeels was the overall winner at the NPC Nationals and will be making her pro debut at this show. She has a good physique but how will it match up against the pro ranks? We’ll find out this Saturday. Marisol Lara is another one who fund success in the NPC ranks and will jump into the deep end of the bikini pool. She has the looks and physique to hang with the top competitors. It will come down to how she presents and if she takes the stage with confidence. Nikola Weietova made the trip from Slovakia and gets the award for longest distance traveled to compete. She has the looks and the potential to be in the top spot. She needed a tighter backside at the Masters/Worlds Pro show in December to crack the top spots. Nikola has the potential to be a star in the industry and will be one to watch in the months ahead.

Bikini International Preview & Hardbody Poll

Last year’s Bikini International Champion, Sonia Gonzales will not be back to defend her title and that leaves the top spot up for grabs. The inagural winner, Nicole Nagrani will look to recapture the title but she’ll have to go through the reigning Ms.Bikini Olympia Champion Nathalia Melo.

The 2013 Bikini International will feature a mixture of seasoned veterans and hungry rookies. India Paulino has her sights set on her first major title but so does veteran Jamie Baird. Who will finish in the top spots? We’ll find out in just a few days.

2013 Fitness International Preview

For the past three years, Adela Garcia has been in the winner’s circle at the Fitness International but won’t be back to defend her title. Last year’s runner-up, Camala Rodriquez, has made the switch to Figure, and top-contender Myriam Capes was forced to withdraw due to injury. You remove those top finishers and you’re looking at a huge opportunity for others to make a name for themselves.

fitness-international
Oksana has momentum on her side coming off her best season ever in 2012. Bethany Wagner has the physique to win and with an ever improving routine has the chance to take the top spot. Add in the return of Trish Warren and veteran Tanji Johsnon along with the other women and we’ve got a showdown.

2012 IFBB Kentucky Pro Muscle Figure Preview

The 2012 Kentucky Muscle Pro is the second to last Pro Figure show of the year. Currently, there are 17 women looking to leave Louisville with an Olympia qualification. Only one will do so and four others will collect points in the Olympia Point Series. The show doesn’t have many “big names” so to speak which will make it a bit more interesting for fans to follow. There are a few likely favorites heading into the show and ones to watch in the mix for a top spot.

kentucky muscle

Look for Alicia Harris to be the one to beat if she’s in the condition we know she’s capable of achieving. She’s coming off a 4th place finish at the Ft. Lauderdale Cup and has the tendency to do better at the end of the year. She’ll likely be challenged by Ann Titone for the top spot. Ann is coming off a 12th place finish at the Olympia, one spot behind… you guessed it Alicia Harris. Aside from the Olympia, Ann finished in the top five in each of the shows she competed in this year. She took home her first win at the Tampa Pro and if she brings that look to the stage in Kentucky, she could leave the winner. Look for Dana Ambrose to hang in the top spots again after her pro debut in Houston where she finished in third. Krista Dunn will look to move up into the top five after a respectable 9th place finish at her debut in Florida earlier this month. Jessie Hilgenberg will be making her pro debut after achieving pro status at the 2012 NPC USAs. Simone Mack was 15th at the Ft. Lauderdale Cup but look for her to move up at this show and make a run for the top five. Another likely contender for the top spots is Chikondi Mseka. She was fifth at this show last year and has the potential to be in the mix once again.

My dark horse pick to shake things up in the top five is Monica Labriola. She put together an impressive run in the NPC before turning pro at the 2012 North Americans. She’ll be one of the shorter competitors on stage but has tremendous shape and could be in the top spots her first time out. Keep an eye on her to be in the mix.

2012 IFBB Sacramento Pro Bikini Preview

This weekend in Sacramento, California marks one of the final shows for the IFBB Pro Bikini division. Surprisingly, there are only 9 women entered in the show. Despite the low numbers it won’t stop the top spots from being competitive. Amanda Latona is coming off a win at the Border States and will look to collect her second win in a row. She’ll square off against a number of the women she faced in San Diego last week and has to be the favorite in the show.

sacramento pro bikini
Amanda went back to what worked last week and it paid off. No wild hair and odd posing like we saw at the Olympia. If Amanda brings the same look to Sacramento she’ll leave the champ once again. She won this show last year and is the one to beat again this year. Tiffany Marie Boydston was in the runner-up position to Amanda and if she can repeat that it will be a win for her. She’s one of the smaller competitors in the line-up and has a look the judges reward. She’ll face a different panel of judges this weekend so we’ll have to see how they place her.  Tawna Eubanks found success on this stage last year when she finished second to Amanda Latona. Don’t be surprised if she is in a similar spot again this year.

Noy Alexander has been competing pretty much all year and shows that when you don’t fall off your nutrition plan you can consistently stay in shape. I like her physique and the look she brings to the stage. She was a bit better in San Diego than she was in Houston and look for her to be in the hunt. Jessica Arevalo continues to improve her stage presence and when she takes the stage with confidence she shines. Look for her to hold her own if she’s able to put the nerves aside and exude the confidence that earned her pro status. It’s been about a year since Theresa Bryne was on stage. She’s only competed in a couple of shows since turning pro so it will be a coin flip on what we’ll see her bring to the stage this weekend. Ashley LeBlanc has a fourth and a fifth place finish to her credit since turning pro at the 2012 NPC USAs. If she can repeat the top five finish again, she’ll add to her Olympia Point Series total. Janelle-Saitone-McGuire has classy stage presence and continues to improve. She doesn’t have the same amount of muscle as some of the other women in this line-up but should be in the mix. Maureen Doherty rounds out the line-up and will look to improve her placing in this her third pro show.

The competition is held in conjunction with the NPC Sacramento which looks to have over 300 competitors. This show is often a launching pad for competitors heading into the NPC Nationals next week. We’ve seen a number of women do well in Sacramento and go on to achieve pro status at the Nationals. One added benefit of doing this show is getting in front of Sandy Williamson who is the head judge of the IFBB Pro women’s division. As a NPC competitor you can get valuable feedback on what works and what doesn’t in order to make it on the next level.

2012 IFBB Border States Pro Bikini Competitor List & Preview

While twelve IFBB Pro Bikini competitors will be competing in Prague this weekend, another twelve will be stepping on stage half way across the world in San Diego, California. The line-up is fairly competitive and one woman will leave with a 2013 Olympia qualification and four others picking up points towards an Olympia invite. This will be Jon Lindsay’s second to last show of the year and sure to be a great one. The NPC Border State Classic is a National Qualifying event and held in conjunction with the IFBB Pro Bikini competition.

The Hardbody 411:
The odds-on favorite has to be Amanda Latona to take home top honors. She’s a seasoned veteran to the stage and if she goes back to what works for her in the past she’ll leave the winner. At the Olympia, Amanda switched up her posing and her hair. It may seem like two silly points but when you’re splitting hairs on who wins and who doesn’t the details matter. Noy Alexander has a rock’n Hardbody and while one of the shorter competitors she should match up well next to the others in this line-up. Stacey Alexander always seems to fair a bit better in California than some of the other shows. Look for her to be in the hunt for the top spots. I like the potential of Jessica Arevalo. If she brings a confident, poised presentation to the stage she could catch some other ladies sleeping and move up into the mix. Ashley LeBlanc had a solid debut in Houston and will look to be in the top spots again here. The only thing that stands out with Ashley is her hip twisting pose can often look painful as she exaggerates it to the back and twists so much. Taylor Matheny has one of the best physiques in the division and if she can come in with a flattering suit and nail her presentation, she’ll be in the mix. She’s been  hit or miss with her suits and often times her posing doesn’t flatter her physique. She’s improved but will it be enough to land in the top spots? Janelle Saitone-McGuire will compete in her second pro show and will have to really rock the individual posing presentation to get in the top call-out. She doesn’t have the muscle some of the other women have but does have a nice, classy, polished presentation. Dianna Harbort has a nice physique however it could be a challenge to hang with this line-up. She turned pro at the 2012 Team Universe with a win in the Masters Over 45 division.

2012 IFBB Evl’s Prague Pro Bikini Competitor List & Preview

Twelve IFBB Pro Bikini competitors are slated to compete in the Czech Republic this weekend. This marks the first time the IFBB Pro Bikini women will have a chance to compete in Prague. The show is promoted by former bodybuilder Eva Sukupova with the help of American Media Inc. and promises to hold a first class event. This event also has some of the top prize money with $7,000 going to the winner of the Pro Bikini competition. There will also be open and 212 Men’s Bodybuilding along with the Amateur Bikini Olympia.

ifbb prague pro bikini

The Hardbody 411:
This is without a doubt the diverse competition we’ve seen in the pro league with representatives from a variety of countries. There are only three women from the United States in this event. Look for the blondes to dominate this line up and the top spots. The odds on favorite to win the show has to be Canada’s Justine Munro. She was victorious at the St. Louis Pro and was the runner-up at the Houston Pro earlier this month. Look for her to be the unanimous winner if she’s in the same condition as the Houston show. Michelle Brennan is coming off her first win and a favorite in Europe. Look for her to be in the hunt for the top spots.

My dark horse pick to shake things up is Anna Virmajoki from Finland. If she shows up like she did at the World Championships earlier this month she could be your winner. Super tiny waist and polished from head to toe. If Nikola Weiterova comes in a bit tighter in the booty she will be in the hunt for a top five spot. Noemi Olah continues to improve with each show and is coming off a runner-up spot last week at the British Grand Prix.

I like Figen Ozdemir’s look and will be put to the test in her pro debut. If she has a tight lower half she could be in the hunt. The two x-factors are Diana Graham and Talia Terese from the United States. Both women have been in the top spots but also on the outside looking in. Talia has yet to find her groove in the pro ranks since her win at the 2011 NPC USAs. Diana Graham has a bit more muscle than some of the other women in this line-up and it will come down to her conditioning in how she fairs. Gemmalyn Crosby has been up and down in the placings and is coming off a 4th place finish at the Ft. Lauderdale Cup. She’s been competing for a number of weeks and the long flight could cause some problems but if she’s able to over come those she could land in the top five again.

Ronnie Blewitt – England

2012 Ft. Lauderdale Cup Preview

The third annual IFBB Ft. Lauderdale Cup takes place on Saturday, October 20, 2012. Some of the league’s top competitors will take the stage in hopes of qualifying for the Olympia and bragging rights as the Ft. Lauderdale Cup Champion. While the IFBB Pro competition will be one to watch, so will the NPC portion of this event. Some of today’s top pros got their start on this stage. Reigning Bikini Olympia, Nathalia Melo won this show in it’s inaugural year. This is the only all female weekend in the NPC and IFBB. There are slated to be over 150 NPC competitors sharing the stage with nearly 50 pros.

Ft. Lauderdale Cup Hardbody

The Hardbody 411:

FITNESS:
This is one stacked line-up and just short of the Olympia and Arnold Sports competition it might be the most competitive of the year. Oksana Grishina has established herself as the one to beat after a runner-up position at the 2012 Olympia and a win at the Arnold Europe last week. She always has a great routine and it will be the physique round that could prove to be her biggest challenge. Bethany Cisternino should take top honors in the physique round and if she can showcase her strength moves in the routine round look for her to be in the top spots. Ryall Graber-Vasani has a great physique and solid routine. The judges haven’t rewarded her as high as I think she should be placing but we’ll see how she fairs here.  Fiona Harris is another competitor that has kind of flown under the judge’s radar but one to watch with loads of potential. Darrian Tissenbaum will be making her pro debut and the pirate routine is always full of non-stop action. Stacy Wright is making a routine after the birth of her first child.  Regiana Da Silva will leave you a bit dizzy just watching her routine as she flies all over the place and has some sick flexibility and strength.

FIGURE:
Candice Lewis is coming off a win at the Houston Pro and has established herself as one of the break out stars this year. She was at her best in Houston and the only question is how will her body hold up? Look for her to be in the top spots and the one to beat. Kamla Macko could give her a run for her money. She put herself on the map with her runner-up placing at the Sarasota Pro, finishing second to the would be Figure Olympia Champ, Erin Stern. Alicia Harris won this show last year and if her conditioning is on point she’ll be in the mix. Smiley Harris should be in the hunt if she’s in shape. Agnese Russo is a bitter of a sleeper pick in this line-up. She made the switch from bikini to Figure and more than held her own last week in Houston. The biggest  factor in this show will be Camala Rodriquez. Camala fared well in the physique round when competing in the Fitness division however her routines were not on the same level as her physique. She wisely made the move to Figure for this show and could be a threat for the title. It will be interesting to see how she compares to the others. Natalie Waples will look to get back in the hunt for a top spot and her placings have been up and down over the course of the year. Patty Zariello will look to move up into the top five after her debut last week where she was just on the outside. Krista Dunn will look to make her presence known in her pro debut. Krista’s biggest challenge will be not looking too conditioned or overly muscular. Dani Ronquilo will also be making her debut after a string of show in the amateur ranks this year. The other x-factor is Candice John. The Trinidad beauty has the potential to be top five and a threat for the top spot.

BIKINI:
The line-up may not be the biggest of the year but it could be one of the most interesting to watch. There’s no “big name” in the show so to speak and by that I mean top five Olympia finisher. The favorites have to be Lacey DeLuca and Yeshaira Robles. The two went head to head in Sarasota and Yeshaira came out on top. Personally, I love Yeshaira’s look and she’s one of the few competitors who has an athletic, toned physique and presents with class. She’s able to be cute and with a flip of the hair she can strike a sexy look. Lacey brings a bit softer physique in the lower body and her biggest challenge will be her lower body compared to her upper. Adriana Hill is another stunning competitor and her biggest challenge is presenting with confidence and not a nervous look. Gigi Amurao is making her debut and has great stage presence, her biggest challenge will be her legs not looking too muscular on stage. Monique Gantt made her debut in Houston last week and without a doubt has one of thee best booties in the IFBB. That being said, it’s her biggest hinderance as well. She’ll be loved for her asset in photoshoots and modeling however the judges will likely tell her it needs to come down in size. If she can pose her backside without it looking too large and in charge she could be in the top five here. Gemmalyna Crosby is up and down in her placings and her biggest downfall, in my opinion, is her orange suit. Orange doesn’t pop on stage and tends to blend in too much with her physique.

Arnold Classic Europe Line-up & Preview

After hosting the Arnold Sports Festival in Columbus, Ohio for years, Jim Lormier and Arnold Schwarzenegger decided to expand the successful event. The second-annual Arnold Classic Europe will be held October 12-14, in Madrid, Spain. Many of the top IFBB Fitness & Figure Pros will compete this weekend. Can Erin Stern make it five wins in a row in the Division? Will Oksana Grishina notch another win to her professional resume or will Adela Garcia continue her winning streak? See who is in the show and ones to watch.

arnold europe

Fitness Preview:
Adela Garcia hasn’t lost a Fitness competition since the 2007 Houston Pro. Will she continue her winning ways this weekend in Spain? Don’t bet against her streak ending. Adela always comes in on point in the physique rounds. Adela wins the judges over with her strength moves in the routine rounds. The judging in Europe tends to differ slightly from the States in that a more muscular physique tends to prevail. This is a generalization but seems to hold true. This line-up is pretty close to what fans saw at the Olympia and if things follow suit look for Tina Durkin, Oksana Grishina and Tanji Johnson to be in the top spots. Regaine Da Silva will be one to watch as she is always a favorite in Europe. Jodi Boam is coming off a bummer Olympia, where she was injured. She’s modified her routine and had a chance to heal so will bring the spunky, upbeat energy we’ve grown to love. I like what Ryall brought to the Olympia stage and she has the physique and routine to land in the top five. Fiona Harris also has shown tremendous potential in a relatively short pro career.

Figure Preview:
Erin Stern has been on a roll this year. She was second at the Figure International in March and since that show she hasn’t lost. She’s put together wins in Australia, Sarasota, Olympia, Sheru and will look to make it five in a row this weekend in Spain. Will she do it? Ya, she should and likely will unless something goes terribly wrong between now and Saturday.  Look for Candice Keene to be standing next to her in the comparison and in the hunt for the top spot. Ava Cowan will look to bounce back from her Olympia showing. Larissa Reis should be in the top five as well. It will be interesting to see which competitor not residing in the USA will be in the top five. The judges will see a variety of physiques with some very muscular and others a bit on the softer side.

2012 Figure Olympia: Hardbody Preview & Predictions

The 2012 Figure Olympia has arrived once again. In the nine years of competition at the Olympia, only five champions have been crowned. Two of those champs return to this year’s stage. Can anyone crack the top spots and prevent Erin Stern or Nicole Wilkins from repeating? Check out the breakdown on each competitor (before the Olympia Qualification Series finished) and who could be your leading ladies in this year’s line-up.

2012 Olympia Weekend: Figure Olympia Preview
via bodybuilding.com
The storyline at this year’s Figure Olympia is the same as last year’s, and the two years before that. Those of you who follow the IFBB Pro Figure division know I’m talking about the match-up of Nicole Wilkins versus Erin Stern.

One of the two has been champ, and the other one runner-up, for three Olympia Weekends running. Is 2012 finally the time someone can shake things up and knock one of the two of them down a peg?

With the seasons Stern and Wilkins have been having, it doesn’t look any more likely than usual.

2012 Bikini Olympia Preview & Predictions

This year will mark the third time that the Bikini Olympia has been part of the Olympia weekend. The 2012 contest will be the largest field yet. The inaugural winner, Sonia Gonzales and the defending champion Nicole Nigrani are a both in the line-up. We break down the entire field on bodybuilding.com.

2012 IFBB Valenti Gold Cup Women’s Pro Preview

The IFBB Valenti Gold Cup is the last chance to qualify for the Olympia in every division except for Bikini and Women’s Bodybuilding (which has no remaining shows before the Olympia). Bikini has one more shot next weekend in St.Louis and Women’s but let’s focus on this show. This is the first time Patricia Valenti has held a show in Sarasota and she’s rolling out the red carpet for it. The IFBB show will have all divisions with the exception of open men & women’s bodybuilding. It will also showcase a number of NPC Hardbody men and women in the amateur event. Each of the pro divisions is very competitive. Let’s break it down.

HARDBODY 411

FIGURE
The figure competition is very competitive and there are a couple of women in the line up are hoping to land in the top five to gain more points in the Olympia Qualification Series. Erin Stern and Candice John are both qualified for the Olympia so the pressure is off them to qualify. The odds on favorite has to be Erin Stern. She added another win to her competition resume by taking top honors at the 2012 Australian Pro. I can’t see her losing this show unless she’s way off and we haven’t seen that from Erin since she was a rookie…many moons ago. Candice John has refined her physique and really come into her own but she’ll have her hands full to finish in the top three here. Look for Andrea Cantone to be in the mix as she’s been consistent this year with her conditioning and in the running for an Olympia qualification via the new points system. Aleisha Hart went back to the drawing board after her showing in Tampa and look for her to come in much tighter and improved from that show. The question is, will it be enough to place in the top ranks in this highly competitive show? Catherine Holland will look to get back in the mix of things but she too will have her work cut out for her. Tatiana Koshman made her IFBB Pro debut in Dallas and finished in third. She packs quite a bit of muscle but carries it well. If she brings down the backside muscle just a bit she’ll be a contender. There wasn’t much time to do any changes since Dallas but the only thing that could hold her back is her muscularity. The Dallas line up was a different looks with the physiques in the show, so we’ll see how she compares in this line up. Kamla Macko is my x-factor in this show and I think she could shake things up. She’s taller and has an athletic looking physique. She finished in 5th at the Tampa Pro in her pro debut and I look for her to be in the top spots here.

BIKINI
The Bikini division could go a number of ways. We have women in the line up already qualified for the Olympia and others who are trying to lock in a high enough placing to land in the top Olympia Qualification Series. We also have rookie debuts that could shake things up. Who are the contenders? I like Juliana Daniell and Yeshair Robles’ physiques. They both have athletic looks and they present with class and a little bit of sexiness without being over the top. If I were a judge (and let’s be clear I’m not) these two at their best are in my top 5 in the Olympia. Tianna Ta is already qualified and will look to build some momentum heading into the big show. She’ll need to come in full on the bottom, without being too lean in the abs and relaxed with her posing. Marcela Tribin landed in the point totals at the Tampa Pro with a different line-up. She’s have a much tougher time this show. Lacey DeLuca will make her pro debut after lighting up the amateur stage. Ron has her winning the show and I don’t have her in my top five. Which way will the judges go? Vida Guerra will look to redeem herself after her California Pro debut. If she can bring back the look and posing she had in Chicago when she turned pro she’ll move up. Adriana Hill has the looks but needs to up her energy on stage to move up into the mix. Aniedra Lynn is making her pro debut but might be carrying too much muscle for this line up. Lexi Kaufman moved up to 6th at the Pittsburgh Pro after debuting at the Bikini International. I like her look and the energy she brings to the stage.  It’s a tough show that could go a number of different ways.

FITNESS
The Fitness division is my favorite in any show. This is a great group or routines and the fans in attendance will be in for a treat. Myriam Capes, Ryall Graber-Vasani and Camala Rodriquez are all qualified for the Olympia. Allison Ethier, Kizzy Vaines and Vanda Hadarean are all hoping to finish in the top five an collect enough points to head to the Olympia.

The Fitness division is judged by their physiques and their routines. Nearly two years ago the IFBB Pro League changed the scoring in Pro Fitness. The physique is to be 1/3 on the score (two-piece swimsuit) and 2/3 of the score will be the 2-minute Fitness Routine. The 2-minute fitness routine scores will be doubled.

Here’s how I would rank my top five in this line up for Physique…
1. Camala Rodriquez
2. Ryall Graber-Vasani
3. Myriam Capes
4. Tiffany Robinson
5. Vanda Hadarean

In Routines I would go:
1. Myriam Capes
2. Vanda Hadarean
3. Kizzy Vaines
4. Jackyln Sutton-Abrams
5. Camala Rodriquez

So where does that leave us? Great question. When the prejudging is finished we’ll have an idea of who is in the lead but it’s not indicative of the final outcome. Someone who is outside of the top 5 in physique could have an amazing routine and be in the top spots. Regardless of where any of these women finish, I’m glad to see them all take the stage as it’s the one division where people can all agree, it’s entertaining and amazing to watch.

WOMEN’S PHYSIQUE
The Women’s Physique division is one that has consistently showcased a variety of physiques. This weekend will be no different. Karina Nascimento has to be the favorite as she’s been victorious in the division already. The judges will have apples and orange in front of them when it comes the the differences in physiques and they’ll be tasked with finding a happy medium amongst the group.

2012 IFBB Tournament of Champions Preview

This weekend 15 IFBB Figure pros will take the stage at Jon Lindsay’s Tournament of Champions. This is the last chance for the women to qualify for the Figure Olympia held later this month in Las Vegas. Prejudging begins at 11am California time and finals will kick off at 6:30pm. Check out the competitor list and the Hardbody 411 on who will likely be your leading ladies.

HARDBODY 411
This is a very competitive line up and one that will help determine who gains enough points for the Olympia in the new qualification series and who is left on the outside looking in. The odds-on favorite has to be Teresa Anthony given her recent showings and the improvements she’s made the last couple years. The only way she doesn’t win this show is if she comes in stringy and not full like we’ve seen her in the past. I don’t see that happening. Who is the biggest threat to her for the win? Some would say Allison Frahn given she is the point series leader and that she has faired well in the past at California shows. She was the runner-up at the California Pro and was third at the Governor’s Cup earlier this year. There are two rookies to keep an eye on who I think will shake things up in this line-up. Francine Sablan will be making her pro debut after taking top honors at the NPC USAs in July. She was head and shoulders above the rest at USAs and has the potential to win it all here. Also keep your eye on Mallory Haldeman. Mallory will make the drive from Las Vegas and has the first time jitters out of the way. She finished in second at the Tampa Pro, her pro debut. If she can stay relaxed and hit her poses better she’ll be in the hunt. Her own weak area right now is her back but it shouldn’t hold her back from being in the mix.

Others to watch… Larissa Reis is in the hunt for an Olympia qualification if she snags enough points here. I don’t see her physique matching up as well with this line up as it did at the Dallas Europa. Felicia has the “name” as she’s been at the top of the Figure charts for years, unfortunately I think we’ve seen the best of Felicia already. I could be wrong but she would have to completely transform herself from what we saw in Dallas to be in the hunt here. Kim Sheppard is in the mix for points and has been consistent with her conditioning. She’ll have a tough time breaking into the top three here but if she could finish in the top five it would be a great showing for her. Natalie Waples is also in the hunt for points and is coming off a second place finish in Chicago. Her placings have been sporadic and she could be a contender or on the outside of the top five looking in.

2012 IFBB Tournament of Champions Pro Figure
1. Teresa Anthony (Glen Burnie, Maryland)
2. Melanie Burger (Pleasonton, California)
3. Deborah Denio (Culver City, California)
4. Allison Frahn (Mahway, New Jersey)
5. Mallory Halderman (Las Vegas, Nevada)
6. Erin Harding (British Columbia, Canada)
7. Michelle Krack (British Columbia, Canada)
8. Michele Mayberry (Federal Way, Washington)
9. Olga Maria Morales (Mexico City, Mexico)
10. Larissa Reis (Brazil)
11. Felicia Romero (Chandler, Arizona)
12. Francine Sablan (San Diego, California)
13. Kimberly Sheppard (Katy, Texas)
14. Katerina Tarbox (Warwick, Rhode Island)
15. Natalie Waples (Nova Scotia, Canada)

Ron “The YOGI” Avidan’s Top 5 Picks:
1) Teresa Anthony
2) Francine Sablan
3) Allison Frahn
4) Mallory Haldeman
5) Larissa Reis

Isaac’s Top 5 Picks:
1. Teresa Anthony
2. Mallory Haldeman
3. Francine Sablan
4. Allison Frahn
5. Kimberly Sheppard

The Final Stretch: Olympia Qualification Series Breakdown

The IFBB PRO League introduced a new “Olympia Qualification Series” in March of this year and now is when things get very interesting. We have three shows remaining for Figure, two for Bikini and one for Fitness. The Women’s Bodybuilding qualifications and field is set. Since this is the first year for the IFBB Women’s Physique division, no points were kept. We’ll see if it’s added next year but that’s a conversation for another time. Let’s review the points-based system and how it works.

You win an IFBB Pro show and you’re in the Olympia. If you’ve already qualified for the Olympia and win a show, there is no “bump down” to second place. The new system awards points to competitors placing in 2 to 5 spots. These points are awarded at all IFBB Pro League competitions. The five competitors with the highest point totals will qualify to compete in the Olympia. No points are awarded for first, since they automatically qualify. Those placing in the top five at the Olympia will automatically qualify for the following year.

SHOWS & RESPECTIVE POINTS AWARDED
TIER 1 – ARNOLD CLASSIC

2nd – 8 Points
3rd – 7 Points
4th – 6 Points
5th – 5 Points

TIER 2 – SHERU CLASSIC, ARNOLD CLASSIC EUROPE

2nd – 6 Points
3rd – 5 Points
4th – 4 Points
5th – 3 Points

TIER 3 – NEW YORK PRO
2nd – 5 Points
3rd – 4 Points
4th – 3 Points
5th – 2 Points

TIER 4 – ALL OTHER IFBB PRO LEAGUE COMPETITIONS
2nd – 4 Points
3rd – 3 Points
4th – 2 Points
5th – 1 Point

It’s important to note the tier levels and points. In an event of a tie, it is my understanding the IFBB Pro League will then evaluate the tied competitors and base the tie breaker on highest finished in given show. Example: if to women are tied and Competitor A finished in second at the New York Pro but competitor B finished in 3rd at the Chicago Pro… Competitor A would win the tie breaker by finishing higher.

FITNESS
Let’s start with the easiest one to follow. Fitness currently has 11 women qualified for the Olympia. This weekend’s IFBB Valenti Gold Cup has 9 competitors currently in the line-up. A third of those women are already qualified for the Olympia. Let’s assume those three women finish in the top three spots. That leaves 2 points to one competitor and one to another. Myriam Capes, Camala Rodriquez & Ryall Graber-Vasani are in the Fitness Olympia but will they go 1-2-3 this weekend? That’s the million dollar question and one a few women are hoping doesn’t happen.

POSITION – NAME – POINTS

1 Ruban, Danielle 7
2 Harris, Fiona 6
3 Hadarean, Vanda 4
3 Vaines, Kizzy 4
5 Ethier, Allison 3
6 Bruce, Sonja 1
6 Frederick, Melissa 1
6 Sutton-Abrams, Jacklyn 1

Danielle Ruban and Fiona Harris are in given their current points. Even if the women below them in point were to snag 4 points, they would still remain in the top five. So let’s put those two aside and breakdown who in the top points are ones to watch. Vanda Hadarean & Kizzy Vaines are tied for the 3 & 4th place positions with 4 points. If either woman finishes in the top five they are pretty much in, not guaranteed but the odds are in their favor. Next is Allison Either sitting in 5th with 3 points. If she can land in the top 5 she should secure her spot. If not she could be on the outside looking in however it’s a long shot that it would happen. Sonja Bruce and Melissa Frederick are not slated to compete. That leaves rookie Jacklyn Sutton-Abrams with one point. If Jacklyn can finish in 3rd or higher she’s in. If she finishes in 4th and ahead of Allison in this show they would tie however Allison would win the tie breaker because she has a 4th place finish at the St. Louis Pro Fitness. Unless someone not listed placings in 2nd or 3rd this will be the scenario for the remaining 3 spots in the Qualification Series.

BIKINI:
This one gets a little tougher to breakdown since there are  two shows remaining before the Olympia. The Valenti Gold Cup this weekend and the St. Louis Pro next weekend. The points could change for the Bikini division based on how things play out this weekend but as of current standings here’s what we’re looking at for possible contenders to finish in the top 5 points.

POSITION – NAME – POINTS

1 Chapman, Jennifer 13
2 Robles, Yeshaira 10
3 Munro, Justine 8
3 Maleton, Dayna 8
3 Matheny, Taylor 8
6 Tribin, Marcela 5

As it stands today Jennifer Chapman and Yeshaira Robles are locks for the Bikini Olympia an I can’t see either of them getting bumped out of the top five. That leaves Justine Munro, Dayna Maleton and Taylor Matheny in a three way tie fore the remaining spots. None of these three are entered in this weekend’s Valenti Gold Cup so their points look to stand at 8 heading into next week’s final show. That leaves Marcela Tribin as the X-factor in the current equation. Marcela is currently in 6th place with 5 points. If she finishes in second or third she would be in the Olympia. The other factor to remember in this equation are the women who are already qualified and in the show. Juliana Daniell and Tianna Ta are both qualified and contender for the top five this weekend. One other scenario that could play out are the rookies in this show. Should they or someone else finish in second this weekend they could set themselves up for an Olympia birth by matching that finish next week in St. Louis… two runner-up finishes would put them at 8 points and give them the nod in the tie-breaker. More to come on this division after this weekend.

FIGURE:
This is definitely the most interesting division to follow in the point series with a number of scenarios in play. There are three IFBB Figure shows taking place this weekend. We can rule out The IFBB Nordic Pro as none of the competitors will effect the outcome of the Olympia Qualification Series. Some one new will head to the Olympia but again that won’t change the points because even with 4 points there isn’t another show to move up.

POSITION – NAME – POINTS

1 Frahn, Allison 8
2 Waples, Natalie 7
2 Reis, Larissa 7
4 Brown, Cheryl 5
4 Cantone, Andrea 5
6 Hart, Aleisha 4
6 Montoya, Tamara 4
6 Sheppard, Kimberly 4
6 Haldeman, Mallory 4
10 Koshman, Tatiana 3

We can take Tamara Montoya out of the equation as she will not be competing this weekend in either show. Currently, Cheryl Brown is tied for fourth however is not slated to compete. This would keep her at 5 points however given the number of women in the top 10 that are competing this weekend, it would most likely not be enough to keep her in the mix. Allison Frahn enters the weekend as the point leader with 8. It looks like it WILL be enough to keep her in the the top five even if she finishes out of the top 5 at the Tournament of Champions. So that leaves 8 as the magic number. If you match that you’re in. Enter Natalie Waples and Larissa Reis. Both women sit at 7 points and tied for second. If either of the two finish in the top five they will be in. Even with a fifth place finish it would give one of them 1 point which would be enough to stay in the top 5 points. If either of them finish out of the top five (or both) they could still be in the mix but it gets more complicated. Andrea Cantone is next in the point total, currently sitting in 4th with five points. Andrea has a bit of an advantage over the other women as she will be competing at the Valenti Cup where there are fewer in the hunt for points. If she finishes in the top five then she’ll get points but she will need to be in the top three to lock in enough points.

Now this is where things get really interesting. Aleisha Hart, Mallory Haldeman and Kim Sheppard are tied for sixth. If either of them finish fifth or higher they will bump Cheryl Brown out of the mix. If they want a guaranteed spot in the Olympia they would need to finish in second, which would move the point total to 8 and guarantee a trip to the Olympia. A third place finish would give put them at 7 and a much stronger chance of getting in. Aleisha has a bit of an advantage as she is in the Valenti Cup and facing fewer in the top points totals. The long shot but still mathmatically possible to make it in is Tatianna Koshman. She is in 10th place with 3 points. If she finishes in second she would likely get in the Olympia with 7 points and the second place being an advantage in a tie breaker. If she is third or fourth there is still a chance albeit a slim one given the other scenarios.

The longest of all shots are with Kamala Macko and Tivisay Briceno. They both sit with one point and would need finish in second to have any chance at qualifying and even then 5 points will likely not be enough. Oh and two important women to note that will definitely play a role in how things shake out. Erin Stern is competing at the Valenti Cup and Teresa Anthony is in the Tournament of Champions. Both will will undoubtedly finish in the top five and are the favorites to win heading into the weekend.

Follow all of that?  HA!

HARDBODY will be covering both shows and keep you updated on how things play out.

2012 IFBB Pacific USA Pro Bikini Preview

Ten women will take the stage at the 2012 IFBB Pacific USA Pro Bikini in beautiful San Diego, California. Given the number of pro cards awarded each year in the bikini division, it’s surprising to see so few competitors. While the numbers may not be the highest, the field is competitive.

The Hardbody Breakdown:
Our West Coast Correspondent Ron Avidan will be covering the action from California. We’ll see a group of competitors where the physiques could not be more different. It will be interesting to see which direction the judges of this show decide to go. Check out the 411 on each competitor below.

2012 IFBB Pacific USA Pro Bikini
1. Noy Alexander – Noy is wasting no time jumping into the pro ranks after turning pro at the NPC USAs last month. She is one of the shorties in the group and brings a bit more muscle than some of the other women in this line up but has a look that should be in the top spots.

2. Narmin Assria – Narmin is another shortie but has positioned herself as one of the leading ladies in the Olympia Qualification Series. She is currently tied for the lead and a win would give her an automatic birth to the Olympia. If she finishes in the top five, which she undoubtedly will she will take the lead. Look for Narmin to be in the top spots.

3. Tiffany Marie Boydston – Tiffany has already locked in her spot for the Olympia and the pressure is off her to qualify. She’ll likely be in the top five here however she’ll have her work cut out for her for the win. She’ll need to bring more booty to the stage if she hopes to take home the top spot.

4. Abbie Burrows –
Abbie will be one of the taller competitors and could dwarf Narmin and Tiffany when they stand next to each other. You never know what you’re going to get with Abbie. She could win or she could be 5th. Look for her to be in the top callout and if her suit fits her, she poses in a relaxed manner she’ll be the one in the top spot once again. If she is distracted and shows up like her Arnold showing she’ll be on the outside looking in.

5. Jennifer Dietrick –
Jennifer has one of the best booties in this line up and could be in the top spots. She is always right on the bubble but given the competition, she’ll have a tough time cracking the top five.

6. Maureen Doherty – Maureen took top honors in her fist show at the 2011 NPC Border States. She finished in second at the 2012 Team Universe event, where she earned pro status. Maureen could be in the deep end of the bikini pool at this show but if she can crack the top five it would be a victory.

7. Diana Harbort – Diana also turned pro at the 2012 Team Universe event and will make her debut here. Diana picked a tough show to make her debut at and will likely be on the outside looking in on a top spot. If she can improve from her Team U look it will be a victory for her.

8. Christie Marquez – Christie gets the award for most persistent competitor of the year. She’ll improve on her New Orleans finish and if she can crack the top five it would be a win for her. It’ll be tough but don’t rule her out.

9. Taylor Matheny – Taylor has the looks, she has the physique but her only real downfall is her posing and presentation. If she can present in a bit more controlled, polished manner she should be a top contender. Look for her to be in the mix for a top spot.

10. Crystal Rose Matthews –
Cystal would likely match up the closest to Abbie Burrows in this line up. She’s a bit taller than most of the competitors and has a bit more muscle. Will she be compared to Abbie? It all depends on what she brings to the stage. She was towards the bottom of the pack at the 2012 Pittsburgh Pro, her pro debut and has no where to go but up.

2012 IFBB Pacific USA Pro Bikini
1. Noy Alexander – Las Vegas, Nevada
2. Narmin Assria – Murietta, California
3. Tiffany Marie Boydston – Las Vegas, Nevada
4. Abbie Burrows – Las Vegas, Nevada
5. Jennifer Dietrick – West Toluca Lake, California
6. Maureen Doherty – Henderson, Nevada
7. Diana Harbort – Scottsdale, Arizona
8. Christie Marquez – Santa Monica, California
9. Taylor Matheny – Newport Beach, California
10. Crystal Rose Matthews – Denver, Colorado

2012 IFBB Europa Supershow Pro Figure – Dallas Preview

The IFBB Figure pros are back in action this weekend at the 2012 IFBB Europa Supershow in Dallas, Texas. Twenty women will take the stage in hopes of earning the right to compete at the 2012 Figure Olympia. None of the women in this competition are currently qualified to compete in the Olympia.

dallas europa figure

Obviously, all women in the competition are hoping to win and the Olympia qualification however there are a couple women who will look to add to their point total in the IFBB Pro Olympia Qualification Series should they not win. The top five highest point finishers will qualify to compete in the Olympia and currently Alea Suarez is tied with Natalie Waples for second place. If Alea doesn’t win this show look for her to improve her point total and move into first place. Allison Frahn leads the Qualification Point Series but is not competing in this show. Larissa Reis is sitting in 10th place with 3 points but would position herself in the top five if she finishes in fourth or better. Points are assigned to placings… 2nd – 4 Points, 3rd – 3 Points, 4th – 2 Points, 5th – 1 Point.

THE HARDBODY BREAKDOWN:

Look for this show to be a 3 woman race. Felicia Romero takes the stage for the first time this year. She finished 2011 in less than stellar fashion at the Olympia and Sheru Classic. It was obvious her body needed a break and more than likely mentally as well. She’ll be rested but will she be on point her first time out? Don’t bet against her as she’ll be the one to beat at this show. Alea Suarez may have something to say about that though. She was in the runner-up position at the Omaha Pro and finished in third at the Chicago Wings of Strength. Alea has found her groove since switching from Bikini and will likely stand next to Felicia being compared for the win. If she brings the same look and physique she brought to the Omaha night show, she could leave with the win. Larissa Reis will look to return to the Olympia stage and while she often carries a bit more muscle than other competitors she won’t look out of place in this line up. Look for her to be next to Felicia and Alea being compared for the win. I see her finishing in third but we’ll see how she matches up in prejudging. Two rookies will look to shake things up in the top five and could do so. Tatiana Koshman achieved pro status at the 2011 NPC USA by winning the B Class and has exotic good looks and a physique that could put her the top call-out. She’ll need to come in a bit tighter than when she turned pro if she hopes to land in the top spots. If she’s in shape, Essence Monet could join her in the first call-out in her pro debut. Essence is a beautiful woman with great shape however has yet to showcase her fullest potential. She’ll need to come in much tighter than she was when she turned pro at last year’s North Americans. She has the potential and is one to watch in her debut. Laurie Schnelle debuted in 10th place last week at the Tampa Pro and look for her to move up at this show. Michelle Mayberry is all about presentation if she brings a polished, youthful look she’ll be in the mix. She has gone back and forth between Figure and Fitness over her career. Jodie Minear is a bit of an x-factor here. Since turning pro she has yet to find her groove on the pro stage. Jodie finished in 5th at the 2010 Phoenix Pro in her debut but has yet to match that finish. Over the last year her legs seemed to disappear. If she’s brought the wheels back up she’ll be back in the hunt.

2012 IFBB Europa Super Show Dallas Pro Figure
1. Julia Aragon (El Paso, Texas)

Hardbody Preview – 2012 Pro Bodybuilding Weekly Tampa Pro

The 3rd annual IFBB Pro Bodybuilding Weekly Tampa Pro kicks off today and it will be one to remember. Over 100 hardbody men and women will take the stage in hopes of taking home not only bragging rights but also an Olympia qualification. There are a number of competitors making their IFBB Pro debuts and will face off against some seasoned veterans on stage.

The IFBB Pro Prejudging kicks off at high-noon Tampa time and will likely last 2-3 hours. Ticket buying fans will definitely get their money worth at this show. There’s also a NPC event held in conjunction with the pro show and it’s a great opportunity for fans to see both pro and amateur competition on the same stage.

This will mark the first year that the show will be held at the Grand Hyatt Regency Ball Room. The move to hold the event within the hotel will make things much easier for competitors. For more information on the show visit www.pbwproshow.com.

THE HARDBODY BREAKDOWN:

FIGURE
The top five in this line up is anyone’s guess however look for your top three to be Gennifer Strobo, Ann Titone and rookie Mallory Haldeman. Gen and Ann are already qualified for the 2012 Figure Olympia and on paper have to be your leading ladies in the event. Don’t be too shocked if Vegas resident, Mallory Haldeman is in the first call-out and gives both the women a run for their money. She took home top honors at the 2012 NPC JR National Figure Championships and if she can stay relaxed while posing has a chance at taking home another title. Andrea Cantone will look to improve on her Omaha Pro 3rd place finish however it will be a bit more challenging to match or beat it here. Canadian Aleisha Hart will look to collect a few more points in the Olympia Qualification Series. She’s currently tied for 5th with 4 points. Aleisha will need to be at her best ever to take move up in the standings. Tanya Etessam, Kamla Macko and Laurie Schnelle will all be making their pro debuts today. Laurie stands the best chance at joining fellow rookie Haldeman in the top five. Olga Maria Morales Gallardo was 6th at the Cal Pro and has a tremendous upper body, if she can come in full she could be in the top 10 here.

BIKINI
The Bikini division will showcase a variety of physiques. You’ll see some women in this line up who pack way too much muscle and others leaving you wondering where the muscle is at. When you look at the lineup as a whole it’s a bit of a cornucopia. Which look will prevail? The one with the most balance. The odds-on favorite has to be Nicole Nagrani. Nicole won this show two years ago, in her pro debut and will look to do so again here. She is the most accomplished competitor in the event. The only other competitor besides Nicole who is qualified for the Olympia is Diana Graham. The two have entirely different physiques however you could see them in the first call-out here. Rookie Adriana Hill has a nice look and could be in the hunt for a top spot in her pro debut. Gemmalyn Crosby will also be making her pro debut. She has a smile that will light up a stage and if her physique is tight on the lower half she could be in the mix. Jemma successfully petitioned for her pro status from her country, the Phillipines. Dayna Maletone has found her groove in the last few shows but has yet to higher than fourth. She could do it here and collect a few more points in the Olympia Series. She currently sits in 5th place with 6 points. The sleeper in this line up is Hungarian competitor Noemi Olah. Noemi is a stunning competitor who will look to return to the Olympia stage. She shocked everyone when she took top honors at the 2010 Detroit Pro, her pro debut. This will be the first time we see her on stage this year and if she can bring a tight lower half look for her to be in the mix. Tamryn Jackson and Agnese Russo are two new names and will be ones to watch what they bring to the stage. The beautiful Marcela Tribin will look to move up from her fifth place finish at the Pittsburgh Pro, where she made her IFBB Pro debut.

WOMEN’S BODYBUILDING
This is the deepest line-up we’ve seen in women’s bodybuilding in quite some time. One spot to the Ms. Olympia is up for grabs and none of the 27 competitors are currently qualified. Tazzie Columb wasn’t on the initial competitor list (she was mistakenly mentioned as a women’s physique competitor) however is in the show. She has the highest Olympia Series point total of the group so if she misses out on the top spot, she’ll hope to collect a few points for her efforts. Sheila Bleck will look to return to the Olympia stage. She was 6th at the Olympia last year and has to be one of the favorites in this lineup. Debbie Bramwell announced at the media conference this will be her last competition and she’ll leave looking shredded. She has plans to start a family and will retire on a high note. Nancy Lewis is one of the seasoned veterans to the stage and has her sights set on finishing higher than she did at the Chicago pro, 6th. Kim Perez will also look to return to the the big dance in Vegas. She’s coming off a 9th place finish at the 2012 Arnold Classic. Marina Lopez has been competing all year in the Women’s Physique division and has been outside of the top spots. It will be interesting to see what she brings to the bodybuilding as she makes the switch back. This is one of the highest pay day opportunities for the women, so look for the field of competitors to be at the best in hopes of leaving a little richer.

WOMEN’S PHYSIQUE

There is no Olympia for this division in its inaugural year so the women are competing mainly for bragging rights. One lucky lady will leave with the title, a little cash and a giant trophy. The division has begun to work itself out and favors women with that are closer to a Figure competitor than that of a bodybuilder. That said, look for the women with the best shape and a nice balance of muscle to prevail. The competitor who could catch the line up sleeping and not seeing her coming is Tycie Coppett. She will be making her pro debut after turning pro at last year’s NPC Nationals. There are the usual suspects in the show like Nola Trimble, Gina Trochiano, Jennifer Robinson and Mikaila Soto. Dayana Cadeau looks like 1/2 the women she was a year ago as she’s completely down-sized her physique from her bodybuilding days. Jen Louwagie will be making her debut after achieving pro status at the 2012 Team Universe. Teresita Morales was second at the New York Pro but packs a great deal more muscle then many of the other competitors. It will be interesting to see how she fares here.

Hardbody Preview: 2012 NPC USA Championships

Over 800 competitors will take the stage this weekend at the 2012 NPC USA Bodybuilding, Bikini, Figure and Physique Championships. This will be the biggest turnout in the show’s 30-year history. The action starts at high noon on Friday, July 27th at UNLV’s Artemis Hall in Las Vegas, NV.

npc usa preview las vegas

A record number of pro cards (53) for this event will be awarded on Saturday night. Prejudging for Friday will start with Men’s Bodybuilding followed by Women’s Bodybuilding, Women’s Physique and ending on Bikini. Saturday’s prejudging will showcase Men’s Physique and Figure at 9am. The finals begin 5:30pm for all events.

Last year Wendy Fortino took home top honors in the Figure division and Talia Terese was the leading lady in the bikini division. This will be the second year that the NPC USAs features Women’s Physique. Last year’s overall winners have yet to make an impact in the pro ranks however other pro card winners have made their mark. Brittany Tacy, winner of the C class last year, won her first bikini pro show at the Greater Gulf States earlier this year and will head to the Olympia in September. Jami DeBenard will also be competing in the Olympia this year in the Figure division. She was last year’s D class winner.

Who will be the ones to watch this year? There are a number of women who could turn pro. I like Kalani Barber’s look and chances at a win in Figure. She was second to Tamara Montoya last year and one to watch this year. Another Figure competitor who has a winning look is Phannary Pen from Modesto, California. Dawn Hinz has consistently been in the top spots in the Figure F class and another who should make her mark this weekend. The Colorado State Figure Champion, Stephanie Spencer has a chance to leave a pro if she comes in just a bit tighter than her overall win earlier this month in Denver, Colorado. California State Champ, Francine Sablan has a nice look and should also be in the mix. Dani Freitas Ronquilio has been close a number of times to a pro card but comes up just short. Look for her to be a contender for a pro card.

In the Bikini division it is up in the air as so many of these women have won a show and done very well on the regional level. Who will step up to the plate at this Pro Qualifier? Look for Noy Alexander to take home gold in her backyard. The current Vegas resident has come close a number of times and many felt could have won her class at the JR. Nationals with no one complaining about it. Ashley Cronley LeBlanc has been on the way up and coming off an overall win at the Greater Gulf States. She has a good look and the potential to win not only her class but the overall here. Amy Allen and Shannon Martinez are two who could take home pro cards. They’ve held their own on the national stage before and will have a solid chance at leaving pros. Former NFL cheerleader, Lisa Perry could be in the hunt if she brings better conditioning then she displayed at the Jr. Nationals. The 2012 Emerald Cup overall Bikini winner Paola Terry will look to move back into the winner’s circle and could do so here. She showed potential at the Team Universe event earlier this month.

Keep an eye on Laura Gutilla and Jill Rudison to make some noise in the Women’s Physique division. If Antonia Perdikakis can dial in her legs a bit tighter she could be in the hunt for the top spots in her class. LaDawn McDay and Alyssa Stroud could battle it out in the heavyweight division of female bodybuilding with the winner likely leaving the overall champ. If Christine Sabo comes in a bit tighter than her last outing she too could leave with IFBB Pro Status.

IFBB WOMEN PRO STATUS AWARDED:
Top 2 Placers in the Overall of Women’s Bodybuilding (4 Weight Classes)
Open Figure the Top 2 in each Height Class (6 Height Classes)
Open Bikini the Top 2 in each Height Class (6 Height Classes)
Women’s Physique the Top 2 in each Height Class (4 Height Classes)

Hardbody Preview: 2012 IFBB Los Angeles Pro Bikini

This Saturday, July 21st, ten IFBB Pro Bikini competitors will take the stage in Culver City, California. The IFBB Los Angeles Grand Prix contest may not have the largest pro line-up but it certainly is one of the most competitive shows to date. If you think you can correctly predict the top five in order I’d like you to pick my lottery numbers.

The event appears to be a two woman event, at least on paper. Amanda Latona has taken a few months away from the competitive stage and will return this weekend to square off against Dianna Dahlgren. Amanda is never more than a couple of lbs (that’s pounds for you non-hipsters) away from her stage weight and arguably has one, if not thee, best booties in the pro ranks. Dianna Dahlgren may have a little something to say about that though. Dianna also has a bikini booty that is the envy of many. She’s coming off a fifth place finish at the Toronto Pro however many (myself included) had her finishing higher.

Amanda has the edge when it comes to stage presence and curves however Diana has shown she can hold her own on any stage, as we saw at last year’s Olympia where she finished third. It should be noted Amanda wasn’t competing in that show so it will be a match up to watch here.

The thing is.. both of these women can be beat if they aren’t at the best and the eight other women have their sights on beating them. Famed cover model, Vida Guerra will be making her pro debut and can hold her own in the booty department but will she be comfortable on stage? We’ve seen her struggle a bit with her presentation in the NPC ranks but she channeled her inner Stella and got her groove back in Chicago.  Also making her pro debut is fellow Cali girl Katherine Portillo. Katherine turned pro at the 2012 NPC JR Nationals with Vida and has a bit of a home court advantage by not having the stress of traveling. The lone East Coast competitor, Dayna Maleton has risen in the ranks her last two shows, with back-to-back fourth place finishes. Narmin Assria is looking to improve on her Olympia Qualification point standings and is in the hunt for an Olympia birth if she fairs well at this event. Skye Taylor is already qualified for the Olympia, so the pressure is off her to collect points or the win. It will be a good test for her to see how she matches up against some of the best in the pro league.

Taylor Matheny has a young, fresh look and a rock’n hardbody. She would finish higher (in my opinion) if she improved her posing. If she brings better posing to the stage she could be in the mix. Jennifer Dietrick will be in some deep bikini waters with this line up and has yet to finish better than 5th. It’s no knock on Dietrick but rather a testament to how competitive shows has become over the last two years. The original Canadian Cutie, Leigh Brandt is hope the 6th time on a pro stage is the charm. She’s yet to crack the top five however she’s been close. She has a chance to do it here but it won’t be easy.

For more information on the IFBB Los Angeles Grand Prix Bikini Championships visit MuscleContest.com. Prejudging starts at 10am (PST) and the finals kick off at 6:30pm (PST).

NPC Team Universe & Fitness Nationals Preview

This weekend nearly 500 competitors will take the stage at the 2012 Team Universe / Fitness Nationals in Teaneck, NJ. The events will also showcase a number of Masters Divisions and look for close to 100 competitors cross over from the Open to Masters events.

A total of 55 IFBB Pro cards will be awarded on Saturday night. The bulk of those pro cards coming in the women’s events. NPCNEWSonline.com broke down the pro cards by division.

– Open Men’s Bodybuilding Overall winner – 1
– Open Women’s Bodybuilding Overall winner – 1
– Master’s Men’s Bodybuilding Over 35, Over 45 and Over 55 Overall winners – 3
– Master’s Women’s Bodybuilding Over 35 and Over 45 Overall winners – 2
– Open Figure Top 2 in each Height Class (6 Height Classes) – 12
– Masters Figure Over 35 and Over 45 Overall winners – 2
– Open Bikini Top 2 in each Height Class (6 Height Classes) – 12
– Masters Bikini Over 35 Overall Winner – 1
– Men’s Physique Top 2 in each Height Class (3 Height Classes) – 6
– Women’s Physique Top 3 in each Height Class (3 Height Classes) – 9
– Women’s Fitness Top 2 in each Height Class (3 Height Classes) – 6

The overall winners will be eligible to compete on the USA TEAM at the 2012 World Championships. While we don’t have the final competitor lists as of yet, here’s a few competitors to watch.  These are just a few names that could be contenders, there’s clearly more to add to the list, in all divisions.

BIKINI:
Danielle Carr was 6th at this show last year and will look to move up into the top five this time around. Nola June has been up and down in the placings and if she comes in on point she can be a contender here. Kate Fishler was on top of her game at the NPC JR Nationals but slipped a bit at the Jr. Nationals. She has stunning good looks and wouldn’t bet against her finishing in the top two of her class. One who will definitely be a fan favorite is Denise Milani. Denise has built a huge online following and if she brings a better cut suit to this stage than her last NPC outing she could be a contender here. Maureen Doherty from Temecula, CA is one to watch in the open and in the 35 and over class. Paola Terry will make the trip to from Anchorage, Alaska and could be a leading lady in this show. She took top honors at the 2012 Emerald Cup earlier this year. Adrienne Crenshaw has been oh so close this year placing second at both the NPC Jr USA and NPC Jr Nationals this year. She’ll look to take a pro card home to Texas on Saturday night. Another Texan to keep an eye on is Siliana Gaspard. She took top honors at the 2011 NPC Texas and was third at the 2011 North Americans. If she brings the look she has to past shows, she’ll leave with a pro card.

FIGURE:
The Figure competition will be stacked in every class. Krista Dunn returns to the stage looking to crack the top spots. The Colorado girl has been consistently at the top in each of her National shows. Michelle Beck will make a return to the stage and if she comes in tight without being too hard, she could be a top contender in the tall class. Victoria Adelus was fifth in her class at last year’s Team U. She’ll hope to move into the top two spots this weekend. She was second at this year’s Emerald Cup held in April. Corinna Booth as the queen of the 2011 Ft. Lauderdale Cup and took second at this year’s New York Mets. Look for her to be a contender in her class. Patty Zariello has been knocking on a pro card’s door several times but came up just short. Look for her to do well and potentially leave with IFBB Pro status on Saturday night. Amy Puglise knows all to what what it’s like to be close to a pro card. She was second at the 2011 NPC Nationals and runner up at the 2012 NPC Jr Nationals. Another figure competitor who knows what it’s like to be in the top five but just miss out on turning pro is Michelle DeRosa. Michelle was third at the 2011 NPC Nationals and 4th at this year’s NPC JR USA. Kelly Booth Hater was second at the 2012 NPC JR Nationals B Class. She’ll look to match or surpass that here and leave a pro.

BODYBUILDING:
If things continue to go the way they have, look for the women’s bodybuilding numbers to be the lowest of all the divisions this weekend. Look for three women to be battling for the top spots and they could all face off in the Master’s division. Gail Auerbach, Michelle Brent and Christine Sabo. All three women have been at the top of t heir game before and if they bring their best here they could leave with IFBB Pro status. Sabo has the most potential of the group and if she’s on point she could leave your overall champ.

FITNESS:
The Fitness division should see decent numbers given that it’s the NPC Fitness Nationals and the top two in each of the three height classes achieve IFBB Pro status.  I look for around 30 competitors to enter this weekend’s event. A couple familiar names to the Fitness stage are Babette Mulford and Lisha Dean. Both women have come close to turning pro a number of times. I can’t see Babette leaving Jersey still an amateur if she brings the same thing she did to Jr Nationals. Lisha starts strong and tends to get a little winded mid-way through her routine. If she can keep her energy high through out the routine and come in just a bit tighter, she could leave with pro status. Alexis Paige showed potential in her Fitness debut in Chicago. If she speeds up her routine a bit and has some more strength moves she could do well. Ashley Sebera is knocking on the door to pro status as well. The Ohio girl has been moving up in the ranks this year and finished third at the NPC JR Nationals. Look for her to be a contender here. There will be a number of others that could leave with pro status and ultimately the best combo of a routine and physique should prevail.

WOMEN’S PHYSIQUE:
There are three pro cards up for grabs in each of the three height classes and this division has been blowing up as the year progresses. Nine women will leave with IFBB Pro status so you can bet this division will be packed once again. You have to figure Rachel Baker is one of the odds on favorites to leave a pro and potentially win the whole show. She’s come close on a number of occasions and definitely has the look of the division. Tony Perdikakis will look to come in a bit tighter in the legs than she was at the Greater Gulf States and try her hand at a division. Andrea Holliday will also be making the switch from Figure to Physique. If she can come in full she might have a chance to do well.
