Arnold Fitness International Preview, Predictions & Poll

The 2015 Arnold Fitness International will take place this weekend in Columbus, Ohio. The Fitness International competitors will earn the most money out of all of the female divisions and rightfully so. The women of fitness are tasked with not only being in top shape for the two-piece round but also perform a routine. Their routines aren’t just dancing around and doing a few jumping-jacks. Oh no, the women of the Arnold are some of the elite fitness competitors in the world.

The defending champ, Oksana Grishina will be back and one thing you can always count on from her is a passion filled routine. Oksana doesn’t just go through the motions when it comes to performing her routine. Key word here is performing. The hours of routine practice show in her performances. She usually fairs well in her routines but its the two-piece round that could hold her back from another title. She’ll face another Fitness International champion this week, Tanji Johnson is back and looking to regain the top spot. If Tanji is in shape, and I have no reason to believe she won’t be, she’ll be in the driver’s seat heading into the routine round. Then it will come down to Tanji performing a clean routine whether she takes the top spot again or not.

Don’t sleep on Bethany Wagner-Cisternino. Bethany has the best physique in Fitness and look for her to take the top spot in the two-piece round. If she nails her routine she could also give the champ a run for her money. Of course you can’t rule out Regiane Da Silva who leaped into the third place spot at the 2014 Olympia. Regina’s routines will leave you exhausted just watching. Those are my top four competitors and then after that it gets dicey.

2015 Arnold Amateur Competitor Lists

Arnold AmateurThe 2015 Arnold Amateur Competitor Lists have been announced. The Amateur event coincides with the Arnold Sports Festival held in Columbus, Ohio on March 5-7th. Some of today’s leading ladies have competed in this event before they went on to the professional ranks. India Paulino finished in second at the 2011 Arnold Amateur and went on to be a top Bikini pro. In the same show (and same class) was an unknown bikini competitor by the name of Ashley Kaltwasser. Ashley finished in 14th in the 2011 event. The next year she won the overall amateur bikini title. Last year Ashley shook Arnold’s hand as the 2014 Bikini International champion. It’s a great reminder that ever pro was once an amateur and you have to start somewhere.

Which of these Arnold Amateur competitors could be the next top pro? We’ll find out in a just over two weeks.

2015 Arnold Athlete Invite List Announced

2015 Arnold Invite
The 2015 Arnold Athlete invite list has been released courtsey of Arnoldsportsfestival.com. New to the Arnold Classic Festival this year are the Men and Women’s Physique divisions. Oksana Grishina will be back to defend her Fitness International Title as will Ashley Kaltwasser in Bikini and Candice Keene in Figure. We’ll see the first two Women’s Physique Olympia champs face off once again with Dana Linn Bailey and Juliana Malacarne both on the invited list.

2014 Arnold Classic Europe Results

The 2014 Arnold Classic Europe is in the books and things went as expected in the women’s pro fitness division. Oksana Grishina was coming off her first Fitness Olympia win and brought all the moment with her to Madrid, Spain. She was able to perform the same routine that earned her the top spot at the Fitness International, in Columbus, Ohio to kick the year off. Oksana’s “pole routine” demonstrates not only her versatility as an athlete but also as a performer. She becomes the first woman to win the Fitness International, Olympia and Arnold Classic Europe Fitness all in the same year.

Defending Arnold Classic Europe Fitness champion, Tanji Johnson brought an improved physique to the stage but had to settle for third. Definitely no shame in that placing and Tanji continues to be one of the mainstays in the Fitness division. The third place finish matches her Olympia Fitness placing form last week. Myriam Capes suffered an accident after the 2014 Fitness Olympia that left her with an injured hand but it didn’t hold her back from a fifth place place finish. Leaping into the top five with an always beautiful routine was Canadian Fitness star, Danielle Ruban. Danielle always has a smile on her face and consistently in the hunt for a top spot in every show. The always high-flying and energetic Regiane Da Silva was coming off a second place finish at the Olympia and matched that placing in Madrid. Regiane always has to play catch up after the 2-piece round but her routines help her land a top spot due to the non-stop nature. She also makes strength moves look easy but try any one of them and you’ll likely land on your face.

Kai Greene and Mamdouh “Big Ramy” were slated to compete in the show but didn’t take the stage. This left the door open for the rest of the field to move up as Kai had to be the favorite heading into the show and Big Ramy a threat for the top five. An improved Dennis Wolf took top honors by his size and improved conditioning. Shawn Rhoden was able to hold onto his conditioning from last week’s Olympia and landed him in second. Rounding out the top three is the always dangerous Dexter Jackson. Dexter proves that age is just a number as he continues to be a top contender into his 40s.

2014 Olympia Lineups – Find Out Who Qualified

The 2014 Olympia is quickly approaching and we’re beginning to see who will qualify for the big show in Las Vegas. Over the weekend, most of the fields were set. The Bikini, Men’s Physique and Figure still have a handful of shows remaining on the schedule to qualify but for the most part we know who will be qualified for the Olympia.

Keep in mind these lists are for those who qualified, it doesn’t mean they will actually compete. We know Erin Stern, Mallory Haldeman and Heather Dees are are officially out of the Figure lineup. A couple of top competitors in other divisions will not be competing but have asked not to be mentioned just yet as they haven’t made things “official”. Stay tuned on that front as it will definitely get people talking when their absence is announced.

There’s just one qualifying show to go in the Figure division (Tahoe Pro). It’s safe to call Allison Frahn and Sasha Brown qualified for the Olympia. There are a number of scenarios that could change the remaining lineup after the Tahoe Pro but here’s the leading contenders with a chance to qualify via the points series. The magic number is 10 anything less than that and there’s not chance to qualify via the points system. Three women have ten points and four have mathematical chances to get in with a top finish in Tahoe.

There are two IFBB Pro Bikini shows remaining on the schedule. The Dallas Pro and the St. Louis Pro will determine who is in the Bikini Olympia lineup. In order to make the Olympia via the point system a competitor needs at least 10 points. Anything less than ten and they are on the outside looking in. It’s a safe bet to call Jessica Arevalo and Dayna Maleton in the Olympia but not it’s not set in stone. Kelsie Clark, Nicola and Michelle Lewin are likely in but not a sure thing. A number of scenarios could play out given two remaining shows. There will be a clearer scenario after the Dallas Pro. This one could come down to the wire to see who gets in.

2014 Olympia Qualification Series By The Numbers

The IFBB Pro League introduced the Olympia Qualification Series, a points-based system in 2012. The system was designed to help determine who would qualify for the Olympia in each of the IFBB Pro League divisions. The way it works is pretty simple. The winner of each contest is qualified for the Olympia and no points are rewarded. The competitors who finish in second through fifth place receive points for their placings. The points are accumulated throughout the year and after the final qualifying event, the five competitors with the most points are qualified to compete in the Olympia.

 

THE HARDBODY 411

Some divisions are a little more interesting to follow than others and in many cases will come down to the final show to determine who gets in or not. There are only a few shows remaining on the schedule before this year’s Olympia and there are a few divisions and competitors who are a lock for a qualification based on point totals and remaining shows. Let’s break each of the women’s division down by the numbers.

2014 FITNESS OLYMPIA
The following women are already qualified to compete. This doesn’t mean that each woman WILL compete, but rather they are QUALIFIED to compete.

The Pro Fitness is pretty close to being determined. There’s just one pro show remaining on the schedule (Tampa Pro) for the women to qualify. The winner gets in which means we’ll likely see one more woman added by way of a victory. That is unless one of the above women already qualified competes and wins. I can’t see any of the women listed about entering the show simply because they’ll be focused on the Olympia. Mathematically four women are a lock for the Olympia based on their point totals.

Regiane Da Silva from Germany will take top honors in the point series with 18. No one can come close to knocking her out of a spot. She’s in. Next up is Danielle Ruban from Canada. She too is in after a second place finish at the Chicago Pro. While technically she could drop out of the second place spot she wouldn’t fall out of the top five. She’s a lock with 12 points. Currently sitting in third place with 9 points, Arizona’s Whitney Jones is in. She too could drop from the third place spot but not enough to be bumped out of the top five. Veteran Trish Warren is also mathematically in with 8 points. Only one person could drop her down in points but that would still give her a high enough total to be in the top five.

Amanda Hatfield is currently in the fifth, and final, spot but her five points aren’t a lock for a qualification. There’s a few scenarios that could play out where she gets bumped out of the top five or ties for fifth. Somkina Liudmila could snag a qualification if she places in the top three at the Tampa Pro, fourth would tie her with Amanda. Ryall Graber who was in last year’s Olympia is on the bubble with two points. She’ll need to win or get second to qualify. Third place would tie her with Hatfield, assuming Hatfield didn’t pick up any points in Tampa. The same scenario plays out for Kizzy Vaines as she sits with two points as well. Long shots but not impossible are Ashley Sebera, Vanda Hadarean and Tiffany Chandler, each with one point.

There’s one remaining opportunity for the female bodybuilders to qualify. The last show on the schedule before the Olympia is the Tampa Pro held on August 8-9, 2014. The point totals are too close to call a Point Series winner but mathematically Margie Martin and Christine Envall will both be in with six points. Even if they don’t collect any more points in Tampa, the six points will be enough to keep them in the top five. After that it’s a dog fight to make it in. Alana Shipp and Lisa Giesbrecht both have five points and while it should be enough to keep them in the top five, it’s not a guarantee. Virgina Sanchez is right on the bubble in the fifth spot with three points. Tonia Moore, Juanita Blaino are currently on the outside looking in with two points and Emery Miller has one point. Tampa will be one to watch to see who ends up in the top spots.

There are three shows left for the IFBB Figure pros and there are too many scenarios that could play out. The Tournament of Champions, Tampa Pro and the Tahoe Pro are the three remaining qualifying shows. Allison Frahn has a comfortable lead but not a lock. She’ll likely be in the Olympia via points but look for her to compete in one of the remaining shows, likely the Tahoe Pro. Krista Dunn and Andrea Calhoun are in the top three with ten points each. They are in a good spot but again not a sure thing they will get in given the point totals.

There are five more qualifying events for the Pro Bikini division. That makes things far too complicated to call at this point. As we’ve seen the placings with bikini shows are anything but predictable. If the Olympia were next week we’d see Stephanie Mahoe, Jessica Arevalo, Dayna Maleton, Kelsie Clark & Nicola Weiterova in the show. If I was a gambler, I’d bet the top five changes from this. It will be tough for anyone to finish ahead of Stephanie Mahoe and Jessica Arevalo but mathematically possible.

COLUMBUS, OHIO – About 700 of the top amateur competitors from around the world competed in the Arnold Amateur IFBB International Bodybuilding, Fitness, Figure, Bikini and Physique Championships at Veterans Memorial Auditorium and the Greater Columbus Convention Center February 28 – March 1, 2014 as a part of the Arnold Sports Festival.

“Athletes represented 65 different countries this year making it one of the biggest international events of its kind,” said Bob Lorimer, owner of MetroFitness Gyms and the events co-producer with the Fitness Factory’s Mike Davies. “We are fortunate to collaborate with such fantastic partners like Rafael Santonja, President of the International Federation of Bodybuilding and Jim Manion, President of the Nation Physique Committee who help us bring together so many talented competitors,” Lorimer added.

Arnold Amateur winners in men’s bodybuilding, fitness, figure and bikini who earn Pro-cards will be invited to compete in a future Arnold Classic, Fitness International, Figure International or Bikini International.

Matthias Botthof, Essa Obaid, Roelly Winklaar, Tarek Ellsetorhi, Diana Monteiro, Elena Shportun, Marie Garmen Gomez, Sylvia Tremblay and Noemi Olah are among previous Arnold Amateur winners who have competed as professionals in their respective divisions.

Overall winners received tickets to the Arnold Classic finals and were recognized on stage and photographed with Arnold Schwarzenegger. The winners of each weight or height class received a Tony Nowak Arnold Classic jacket. The top five competitors in each weight or height class received trophies.

2014 Fitness International Results & Scores

2014 Fitness International Results from Columbus, Ohio. Oksana Grishina of North Hollywood, California is the winner of the Fitness International competition at the Arnold Sports Festival. She received $25,000 presented by Jon De La Rosa of MHP, a trophy presented by Jeff Compton of Europa, congratulations and Tony Nowak jacket from Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Other prizes in the Fitness International were:
• 2nd place: Regiane DaSilva of Gudensberg, Germany received $13,000 presented by Gasp & Better Bodies and a trophy from Hollywood Casino.
• 3rd place: Tanji Johnson of Renton,WA received $8,000 presented by Cytosport and a trophy from Flexicus.com.
• 4th place: Bethany Cisternino of Bridgewater, NJ received $5,000 presented by GAT/World Health Products and a trophy from Nutrex Nutrition.

2014 Figure & Fitness International Prejudging Report

The 2014 Arnold Sports Festival is underway in Columbus, Ohio and the IFBB pro women kicked things off this morning. The Figure and Fitness International prejudging took place this morning and the finals will be held at 7pm this evening. You can watch the finals LIVE on Bodybuilding.com’s Free webcast.

HARDBODY FIGURE REPORT
The judges have it between defending champion, Candice Keene and last year’s runner-up Heather Dees. Personally, I have Candice Lewis for the win. Candice Keene looked good and since she is the defending champion, I don’t think too many people will baulk at her winning. I’ll be shocked if she’s not crowned the champ for the second year in a row. She presented herself with confidence and had all the details right. Heather Dees came in a bit fuller than last year with a little added size however when she posed she was shaking like a leaf in the Columbus win. I think Heather is a beautiful woman but I wouldn’t have her in the second place spot. Nothing personal, just other physiques that structurally are better and when the little details count, posing should be one.

I am often overly critical of Candice Lewis and it’s because she has so much potential that despite winning numerous shows in 2012 and 2013, it wasn’t until this show that she nailed it. Candice has nice shape, her legs were streamlined and presented a polished look from head to toe. The judges might say her legs are overpowering but I’d disagree on it today. It looks like the judges have her in 4th but it will be close. Camala Rodriquez brought a balance physique and she is strongest from the back. I would have liked to seen her next to Candice Keene for a comparison from behind. It looks like she’ll be in the third place spot. Ann Titone looks good when she stands alone on stage however when you put her next to the other women she starts to fade. She has improved her physique over the years and continues to improve however I think she’ll be in the 5th place spot but could sneak into 4th if the judges favor her to the look Candice Lewis brought.

Gen Strobo brought one of her better physiques to date and I could see her locking in the 6th place spot. She has great delts but her lower body still lacks a bit behind her upper body. Still one of her best showings though and if she snags sixth it would be a score for her.

The rest of the pack. I would have put Elissa Martis a bit higher. I like her look and with a little more stage time she’ll be a contender. Alicia Coates was off her best but will still likely end up in the top ten. Her posing was a bit off, make-up/face didn’t match her physique color and her legs were off from her previous shows. Beautiful girl but not her best showing to date. Ava Cowan will likely be in the 8-10th place range. She’s overcome a lot over the past year and physique wise she was too lean, too muscular and too ripped compared to the other women. It was more of a women’s physique. Look for Allison Frahn, Dana Ambrose and Amanda Doherty to be in the hunt to round out the top ten.

5. Ann Titone
6. Gen Strobo

I’d have Candice Lewis, Candice Keene and Camala Rodriquez as my top three but it looks like it’s all Candice Keene and then Heather Dees. The tighter race is between Rodiquez, Lewis and Titone for 3-5.

HARDBODY 2-PIECE FITNESS
Bethany Cisternino looks poised to win the two-piece round with Tanji in second. This could flip flop but ultimately it will come down to the routine round. Tanji looks like she’s in the driver’s seat to repeat as the champ if she nails her routine. In the third and fourth place spots you have Trish Warren and Regiane DaSilva. Regiane typically doesn’t end up this high in the two-piece and I was a bit surprised to see her in the first callout. I would have liked to see Danielle Ruban and Oksana Grishina in the mix for the top three. Oksana didn’t come in as hard as previous years and downsized her muscle a bit however the judges didn’t seem to favor it to be in the top four. She could be fifth but also 6 or 7th based on comparisons. I like the shape Danielle Ruban presented she could have been a tad tighter but overall I thought it was a top five look. The judges didn’t see it that but she’ll be one to watch in upcoming shows.

A stand-out to me was Michelle Blank. It’s the best presentation she’s put together from her hair to makeup, presentation and her physique. She wasn’t as conditioned as the other women and faded just a bit but overall it was her best look to date and would have her in the top five. She could sneak in there but likely on the bubble and could end up 6-8th. Whitney Jones might be in the top five and will likely be in the 6-8th spot as well. I’d like to see her work on her posing a bit, especially from the back.

Ryall is scratching to get into that mix as well. Her tan was a little light and yellow looking. She had some issues with her posing suit riding up a bit too high and showed some under boob.

2014 Fitness International Preview, Poll & Predictions

The 2014 Fitness International is upon us once again and it will feature some of the most athletic women in the IFBB Pro League. The competitors have a variety of backgrounds from gymnastics to cheerleading, dance and more. The Fitness International has two round. The two-piece round where the competitors are judged on their physiques and the routine round. The routine round is always a highlight of the weekend as we see incredible feats of strength, endurance, flexibility and entertainment. The competitor list isn’t all that different from the 2013 roster but will the results end up the same? We’ll have to wait until Friday night to find out.

Tanji Johnson is back to defend her title and will have her work cut out for her to make it two in a row. She had surgery last spring on her knee but proved it didn’t slow her down when she competed at the Olympia just a few months later. Oksana Grishina is always a crowd favorite and pushes the envelope with her routines. She makes incredibly difficult moves look easy and they are anything but simple. Bethany Cisternino always brings a great physique to the stage and has moved up into title contention with an improved routine.

Myriam Capes withdrew earlier this year due to injury which could open up a top five spot. Look for Regiane DaSilva, Trish Warren, Michelle Blank and Whitney Jones to make a run at the top six. Kizzy Vaines always seems to amaze the crowd with her insane flexibility but has been inconsistent with her performances.

Danica Patrick Bulks Up For Go Daddy

Danica Patrick has a new look and she hit the streets of Los Angeles, California to show it off. Danica was filming a new Super Bowl commercial for her sponsor, Go Daddy and boy did she bulk up!

Ok, so she was wearing a fake muscle suit but it’s pretty amusing. Several bodybuilders, amateur and pro, can be seen running the streets along Danica’s side. Which is equally amusing as most bodybuilders rarely run.

We know Fitness Pro Oksana Grishina was on the set as she shared updates via her twitter account.


Nita Marquez also shared a behind-the-scenes photo of her on the set with Oksana.

Rhoden, Martinez, Curry Highlight 2014 Arnold Classic Field
COLUMBUS, Ohio – Shawn Rhoden, Victor Martinez and Brandon Curry, who have each won an Arnold Classic international title in the past three years, lead a deep field of 13 men’s professional bodybuilders who will battle in the 2014 Arnold Classic, the Arnold Sports Festival announced today.

The Arnold Sports Festival and the IFBB Pro League today announced the invited athletes who will compete in the Arnold Classic, Arnold Classic 212, Fitness International, Figure International and Bikini International contests Feb. 28 & March 1 at the 2014 Arnold Sports Festival.

Rhoden, 2012 Arnold Classic Europe champ, and Martinez, who won the Arnold Classic in 2007 and the inaugural Arnold Classic Europe in 2011, will lead a field that also includes two-time Arnold Classic winner Branch Warren, Cedric MacMillan and Dennis Wolf. Curry won the inaugural Arnold Classic Brasil in April. Ben Pakulski, second in the Arnold Classic in 2013, and Toney Freeman, third last year, will also compete. Defending champ and four-time winner Dexter Jackson will not compete.

Flex Lewis, David Henry and Tricky Jackson headline a field of 10 in the first-ever Arnold Classic 212 contest. Arnold Classic 212 competitor Quincy Winklaar is the brother of Roelly Winklaar, who will compete in the Arnold Classic.

In the Fitness International, defending champion Tanji Johnson, Oksana Grishina, second in 2013, and Bethany Cisternino, third last year, headline a field of 15. Johnson, who won the Arnold Fitness Europe in 2011 and 2013, has won seven professional titles in the past 12 years. In the Figure International, defending champion Candice Keene and three-time winner Nicole Wilkins top the field of 17. Heather Dees, second in 2013, is also expected to challenge for the title. Wilkins, who won in 2010, 2011 and 2012, will try to win a record fourth title. Wilkins did not compete in Columbus in 2013.

India Paulino will try to become the first repeat winner of the Bikini International, which has had three champions in three years since it was founded in 2011. Nathalia Melo, second in 2013; Ashley Kaltwasser, Bikini Olympia winner in 2013 and a former Arnold Amateur champion; and Amanda Latona also highlight a field of 16. Anna Starodubtseva earned an automatic invite into the Bikini International after winning the overall bikini title at the 2013 Arnold Amateur IFBB/NPC Bodybuilding, Fitness, Figure & Bikini Championships.

The Arnold Classic 212, Fitness International, and Figure International will be held on Friday, February 28. Prejudging will take place at the Greater Columbus Convention Center and Finals will be at Veterans Memorial. Prejudging and Finals for the Arnold Classic and Bikini International, and final event for the Arnold Strongman will be held on Saturday, March 1 at Veterans Memorial.

2014 Arnold Competitors Lists & Early Show Preview

One of the few IFBB events that are by invite only has become one of the most prestigious events of the year. The 26th Annual Arnold Classic will be held Feb. 28 – March 1, 2014. New this year will be the Arnold Classic 212 division. Absent from the line-up will be the Ms. International. The fields in the Fitness, Figure and Bikini International contests are some of the strongest you’ll see all year.

Leading the way in Fitness is defending champion, Tanji Johnson. She’ll look to fend off top contenders like Oksana Grishina and Bethany Cisternino. One of Canada’s brightest Fitness Stars, Myriam Capes will also be back looking to take top honors. The all-time winningest fitness pro, Adela Garcia will not be in the line-up for the second year in a row.

Nicole Wilkins is back after sitting out the Figure International. She’ll look to reclaim the title currently held by Candice Keene. Look for Keene and Wilkins to be your front-runners in the event. Heather Dees, Camala Rodriquez and Ann Titone will also be strong contenders for the top five. Keep an eye on newcomers Alicia Coates who won her first two pro shows and the NPC National Figure Champ, Elissa Martis. Fan favorites, Larissa Reis and Ava Cowan will look to get back into the top spots. Mallory Haldeman and Erin Stern both finished in the top six last year however opted out of the show this year.

The leading ladies from the Bikini Olympia will be on stage in Columbus and good luck trying to predict who will win this one. Ashley Kaltwasser was tenth at this show last year but finished the year the new Olympia champion. Yeshaira Robles and Stacey Alexander had their best finishes in Vegas by going second and third and will look to be in the mix again at this event. Juliana Daniell has one the the most athletic physiques and returns to the stage after sitting out last year. Look for her to mix things up in the top spots. Courtney King will make a run at the top five in her Arnold debut. The champ, India Paulino is back to defend her title but as you can see will have her work cut out for her to hold onto the crown. Nathalia Melo is on the path to redemption after finishing second here last year and going the year without a win. Look for her to be at her all-time best. Amanda Latona will try to shake things up in the top spots along with seasoned vet Jessica Mone (formerly Paxson). Janet Layug will be making her pro debut and talk about jumping into the deep end of the pro pool. Will see if she sinks or swims with this line-up. Of course you can’t count out Canada’s Justine Munro who has come into her own the last year and a half.

If you’re a gambler, don’t bet on Bikini. The only sure thing is that you’ll lose trying to predict the top spots in order on that one.

The Men’s line up is stacked this year with Shawn “Flexatron” Rhoden, Victor Martinez, Brandon Curry, Roelly Winklaar, Dennis Wolf and others. The 212 Arnold Classic will likely end up being a duel between Olympia champ Flex Lewis and runner-up David Henry. Jose Raymond will look to get back into the top spots after finishing the season on a low note.

Congratulations to all who were selected and best of luck in your prep. It’s never easy dieting through the holidays and in the winter months but the sacrifice will be worth it if you’re the one shaking Arnold’s hand after a victory.

Alina Popa – Alina sat out the Arnold and came back to push Iris to the wire at the Olympia. It was the best she’s ever looked and many wouldn’t have argued had she taken the top spot at the Ms. Olympia event.

WOMEN’S PHYSIQUE

Dana Linn Bailey – Dana, or DLB as she’s known in the industry, returned to the stage after many thought she hung up the posing suit for good. She was the runner-up at the Tampa Pro and followed it up with a victory in Dallas. She went on to become the first winner of the Olympia Physique showdown.

Sara Hurrle – Sara won the inaugural Mile High title and followed it up with a third place finish at the Olympia. She continues to be a contender in every Women’s Physique show she enters.

Toni West – Toni took top honors at the Toronto Pro show and went on to finish 4th at the Olympia. Many feel Toni has what it takes to be the champ in the division.

Tycie Coppett – Tycie won the Greater Gulf States and took that momentum to Vegas where she finished in second behind DLB. Tycie also has the physique to be a top contender in ever show she enters.

Patricia Mello – Patricia started the year off where she left off in 2012, the winner’s circle. She won Los Angeles Grand Prix and also the Orlando Pro. She finished the year in fifth place at the Olympia.

BIKINI

Ashley Kaltwasser – Ashley started the year off with a 10th place finish at the Bikini International. She bounced back, collected a few first place titles along the way before becoming the Bikini Olympia Champion. She finished the year off with a win at the Sheru Classic in India.

India Paulino – India Paulino started the year with a win at the Bikini International and followed it up with another victor in Australia. Many thought she was poised to win the Olympia however she dropped to fifth at the event.

Yeshaira Robles – Yeshaira had a break out year with victories in Pittsburgh, New York and finished in the runner-up position at the Olympia.

Amanda Latona – Amanda won the Greater Gulf States title in June. She finished in 6th place at the Olympia and went on to win the Sacramento Pro to close out the year.

Nathalia Melo – Nathalia was the runner-up at the Arnold and in Australia. She closed out the year with a fourth place finish at the Olympia. Despite not winning a show in 2013, Nathalia continues to be a fan favorite wherever she goes.

Courtney King – Courtney took top honors at the Orlando Pro and the Tampa Pro. She closed out the year with a top ten finish in her first Olympia. She was named “rookie of the year” by FLEX magazine.

The 2013 Olympia will be held in Las Vegas, Nevada on September 26-29th. The lists are out and while some qualified for the big show not all will be competing. The official competitor lists with the 131 competitors who are in the event can be found below.

Notables not competing on the women’s front are Tina Durkin in Fitness. Tina was third last year but due to an injury she’ll be sitting this one out en route to a recovery.

She opted out to focus on her education, Dianna Dahlgren announced her retirement at the end of last year. Jaime Baird has decided not to compete and Sonia Gonzales is expecting her first child.

Women’s Olympia Line-ups Taking Shape

The 2013 Olympia is just over one month away and there are only a handful of shows left to qualify for it. The Women’s Bodybuilding, Women’s Physique and Fitness line-ups are set. Arnold Classic Europe Competitors & Show Info

The Arnold Classic Europe will be held Oct. 11-13, 2013 in Madrid, Spain. The show is in its third year and continues to grow leaps and bounds. This year’s contest will feature IFBB Women’s Fitness and Men’s Bodybuilding. Some of the biggest names in the division will compete for the title. Last year’s winner Oksana Grishina will be back to defend her title. Oksana upset reigning Ms. Olympia Fitness champ, Adela Garcia at last year’s contest. NPC JR Nationals – Fabulous Female Friday Review

Hundreds of NPC female competitors took the NPC Jr Nationals‘ stage on Friday in hopes of leaving with IFBB Pro status. The Bikini competition dominated with the most entrants while women’s bodybuilding foreshadow its future. Only four women entered women’s bodybuilding and while the numbers for this show are always smaller than USAs or Nationals because of no pro card, four shows the writing on the wall.

Women’s Physique continues to thrive and come into its own as a viable division in the amateur ranks. The women in the physique division are more streamlined and while they are muscular they’re looking more like a Figure competitor with more muscle than a downsized bodybuilder.

The Figure competition showcased a number of very good competitors and while there’s no clear cut overall winner many of the classes showcased women with tremendous potential. The Bikini division was also very competitive with the C class being the largest. You know a class is large when the competitor roster takes up two pages.

Fitness had a decent showing compared to what we’ve seen in prior shows. While it’s a fading division in terms of numbers it’s still the most entertaining. The winners in each class will hold their own in the pro ranks but will likely need to be a bit more muscular in order to hang with the likes of Adela, Oksana or Tanji, the leading pro competitors.

FITNESS: Each class winner will achieve IFBB Pro League status. See the prejudging fitness routines and 2-piece photos here.

Look for Shannon Siemer to take the Fitness A class. She had not only the most complete physique but also the best routine in the class.

Nicolette Spencer had the best physique and should finish in the top spots for the routines and put her in the winner’s circle. Lishia Dean has been a long-time amateur favorite and could be in the top three but missed her conditioning in the physique round. Deanne Fry has the muscle and the physique to be in the top spots but will her routine be high enough on the scorecard? She broke out some old school Carol Semple moves in her routine.

Carly Lobato was the standout in the C class, women over 5′ 4 1/2″. She had great flexibility and a number of strength moves throughout. She also maintained her pace from start to finish. Many women start strong but end out of breath. Debbie Sizemore had a rather bizarre choice in the routine round. She brought out a huge prop which looked like a set of jail bars. It was distracting for the majority of her routine. Kimberly Stroup will be in the hunt for the top spot and should be in the top two. She had a solid routine and in the top spots for the physique round.

Barbie Thomas continues to awe and inspire everyone. She performs fitness routines and does move with ease, all with no arms. You can’t help but get a little choked up when she takes the stage. She reminds us all that there are truly no excuses. Mad respect to Barbie.

This was a HUGE class. It was a very tough competition and also had something happen, I hadn’t seen before. Miroslava Reese was in the fourth callout but was brought back with the top five women in a final callout and put in the middle. What that will mean, if anything is anyone’s guess. I spoke with the head judge on this an she told me she thought Miroslava had been overlooked and deserved a look at the top spots. Whether she will finish there or not, we’ll see but it’s a good reminder to all competitors you never know how things will go until the awards are handed out.

Tanji Johnson’s Wait is Over – 2013 Fitness International Results

The Fitness International is a show that every fitness competitor dreams of competing in and few ever experience winning it. For nearly a decade, Tanji Johnson has been chasing the elusive Arnold title. She’s come close to winning a number of times but hadn’t until now. This year she put it all together and finally had the opportunity to shake Arnold’s hand.

Tanji positioned herself for the win by coming with a tight, conditioned physique. She’s been up and down with her placings in the physique round but this time she left no question in the judges’ eyes. She headed into the night show needing a solid routine performance in order to win and she did exactly that. It wasn’t Tanji’s best performance we’ve ever seen and she appeared to struggle a bit at times. It was still a good routine that included a number of strength moves mixed in with a little dance.

Oksana Grishina has become a fan favorite over the years. Her creativity and passion for fitness is obvious in every routine she performs. Every year Oksana brings an unique and interesting routine to the stage. This year was no different and left many with goosebumps. Oksana was in 4th place after the physique round and despite being better than in previous years,  the physique round kept her out of the winner’s circle. Oksana was the unanimous winner in the routine round with her JOKER theme. It was full of strength, artistry and drama from start to finish. She continues to improve in the physique round and when it comes to the routines, everyone agrees she’s always one of the most memorable.

Bethany Cisternino brought a great physique to the show. A case could be made for her winning the 2-piece round but no shame in finishing in second there. Bethany was fourth in the routine round and is always improving her presentation on stage. She has incredible gymnastic skills and makes the most difficult moves looks easy. Bethany’s third place finish was well deserved and look for her to be a threat for the win in any show she enters.

Trish Warren bounced back from sitting out last year after the birth of her first child. Momma Warren proved that nothing can stop you if you’re focused and committed. Trish was 5th heading into the routine round and could have been a bit tighter in the physique comparisons. She brought a rock’n routine to the stage and the third place score helped her finish in fourth.

Regiane DaSilva brought another fast-paced, high flying routine to the stage and it helped her land in 5th. Regiane always scores a bit lower in the physique rounds and it leaves her playing catch up heading into the routine round.

2013 Fitness International Preview

For the past three years, Adela Garcia has been in the winner’s circle at the Fitness International but won’t be back to defend her title. Last year’s runner-up, Camala Rodriquez, has made the switch to Figure, and top-contender Myriam Capes was forced to withdraw due to injury. You remove those top finishers and you’re looking at a huge opportunity for others to make a name for themselves.

Oksana has momentum on her side coming off her best season ever in 2012. Bethany Wagner has the physique to win and with an ever improving routine has the chance to take the top spot. Add in the return of Trish Warren and veteran Tanji Johsnon along with the other women and we’ve got a showdown.
