Justine Munro Camps Out Before The Arnold

Current Muscle & Fitness Hers cover girl Justine Munro updates us one last time before the Bikini International. She’s been camping out in Florida for a few days. Read why she’s migrated south for the winter.

The countdown is on and the Arnold Classic is just days away. I can’t believe that I will be in Ohio within 72 hours!!! There is a part of me that is a little nervous, but deep inside I am so excited!

The last two weeks have been absolutely amazing! The past ten days I have spent in Florida with my team ” Team Bombshell”. It was the best decision I have ever made, as it has brought me closer to my dream.

I read this statement, “coaching with a professional coach, is the practice of supporting an individual through the process of achieving a specific personal or professional result”. My coaches Shannon and Rob have been amazing and have provided me with unconditional support. They pushed me to step up when I needed to step up and they encouraged me the entire way. Working with my entire Bombshell sista’s has motivated me as well and made me even more proud of being on such a great team of amazing individuals. This past week I had the chance of getting to know Jessica Jesse—She is a great person. We did everything together; cardio, training and even shopping! She is truly my partner in crime! (Love you girl xo)

I never realized how important it is to be part of a team. We go through good and bad times, happy and sad times, but always pulling together and staying strong. I have learned a great deal about myself; my strengths, my weaknesses and at times pushing me to my limit. But, what makes me feel good inside is knowing that no matter what, they accept me for who I am, understand the journey that I have chosen and continue to support me along the way. Thank you to Team Bombshell for everything! Love you lots!

Finally, I am honored to be on the front cover of Muscle Fitness and Hers Magazine for the March/April. Thank you to everyone for believing in me and allowing me to represent such a great magazine. I am truly honored and will make you proud!

Along every journey you meet a number of amazing people and at times must face a number of difficult situations and/or decisions that one must make. But I must say, my journey has been truly a great experience and I owe this to everyone who has traveled along with me. Thank you!

If I don’t get the chance to write again before the Arnold, “Good luck everyone! Thanks for a great journey!”

Justine

Justine Munro’s Arnold Update

Canada’s lone representative in the Bikini International shares a bit more about herself and what her day is like. She offers some tips to parents and how to make things work in a busy schedule. Check out what Justine Munro has to say.

Hello Again!

I wanted to start off by thanking Hardbody.com for selecting me along with the other beautiful ladies to participate in writing weekly blogs for this website! Taking the time to put my thoughts on paper has been a great experience.

The Arnold is is less than four weeks away…I am getting more excited, a bit anxious and yes… NERVOUS too!

Often I get asked, “Do you get nervous before a show?” Like anyone else…absolutely I do!

One thing about myself I have learned over the years is that, I am “worry wart”! I like to plan everything in advance, making sure I have everything prepared right down to the very little detail. I drive myself insane at times, but it’s just the way I am I guess. Once I have all my travel plans ready, my suits determined, my schedule figured out and my personal effects in place…I feel much better and worry less and can keep my FULL focus on my training/diet.

For many of you who don’t know me very well, this is a little about me:

I am passionate about the development of children and have been in childcare for the past 5 years. I live in Oakville, Ontario, Canada. I work with children mainly from infant up until 13 years of age. I truly believe that it is important that children grow up feeling good about who they are and have the confidence in themselves to do whatever they inspire to become. Self-esteem is what makes the world go around and its starts from within one-self. I take what I do very seriously and know that I am making a difference with the children I work with, not only their social skills and in their intellectual abilities, but in their physical development and their personal values. I love what I do. I don’t look at it as a job, but an opportunity to make a difference in someone else’s life. The most fascinating discovery for me is that working with children has made me a better person. I learn from them all the time.

I have been blessed to work with a number of great families. Although they are all different in their own way, this has made it a more exciting journey for me. Often I am considered “a big sister” which I like, as I am the baby in my own family. There is nothing more satisfying than assisting a child develop and then watch them grow and develop and become a good person. It makes me proud!

My day starts at 5:45AM every day and I typically get home around 7-8PM. In between these hours I never stop. I am always planning and organizing events, preparing meals and providing a lot of TLC! (tender loving care) to others but that’s what I do! 🙂 I give a great deal of credit to parents—how do they find time to plan their day and then plan for the children etc?

One comment I often hear from parents is how they struggle to find time for themselves. By the time they get home from working all day, they feel guilty to take some time for themselves, whether it is go to a gym and/or setting a routine around eating healthy by making specific meals, the reality is they are tired by the time they get home from work and feel guilty if they don’t give the children the attention they need.

Having the opportunity to observe a number of families and talk with many mothers…(and fathers too), here are a few suggestions that may help:

1. Put “YOU” higher on the list of things to do! Call it a little ‘ME TIME’ but you need to give yourself some time each day. Whether it be first thing in the morning or later in the evening….make a promise to yourself to put YOU AS #1. It could be just taking a bath, reading a book, doing your nails or even maybe even your hair…whatever it is, it’s only about YOU. You will feel better inside, but outside too.

2. Make a commitment to yourself that you want to eat better! Feeling better about yourself starts by eating healthy foods. You have full control over the food you eat. Eating healthy doesn’t mean starving yourself. It actually means eating more food, more often through out the day—but the right foods! Planning your food meals every day will result in your entire family eating healthier as well. This is a good thing! I bought a crock pot! It is one of my best friends now. When I leave in the morning, I prepare my meal (it takes only minutes) and when I get home, it’s sitting there waiting for me fully cooked and it smells so good too! All left over food becomes my meals for the next day. Just an idea. 🙂

3. If you don’t have time for the gym, that’s okay! Don’t feel guilty! There are many activities that you can do with the kids that will give you the physical exercise that you need. Take the kids to the park, for a walk, play a ball game, go tobogganing —kids have a ton of energy and it needs to be released, so go crazy with your kids, make exercising fun and part of your daily routine without realizing it. You could even buy a DVD on exercising and have the kids do it with you. Be crazy together. They would have a ton of fun and more importantly, they would be doing it with you.

4. Spend time with those that matter most in your life. Sometimes we all get so caught up in our lives with our busy routines, scheduled activities that we forget about spending some down time together just doing nothing. When I take the time with the kids I care for, I am always amazed about what they have to say. We sometimes share stories, but often they express themselves about how they feel about something. These moments are precious and need to captured. As I said at the beginning, I am learning all the time from those around me.

These are only a few suggestions for you to consider. I salute all of you parents out there…I really do! You are always thinking of everyone else around you, but yourself. But you need to put yourself higher on the list and if you do so, you will find that you will feel better and perform better too!

I can only hope that when I am a parent I could be half as good as you are! There is no written rule book on being a parent—but if there were, I would highly recommend that putting “ME TIME” is part of it. You deserve it! Have a great one!

Justine Munro’s Road to the Arnold & Life is Good

You’ll be seeing and hearing a lot more of IFBB Bikini Pro Justine Munro this year. She achieved IFBB Pro Status last year, has already qualified for the 2011 Bikini Olympia and is on the fast track to getting noticed by the fitness magazines. She checks in with us again as she attempts to stay warm in Canada and shared, “Life is good!”

I never realized how important routine is for me. Recovering from this nasty cold and flu has been a difficult one. I am now back to my fitness routine; back to the gym, eating regularly, and having fun while I’m doing it all. I feel awesome!

It is a great feeling to belong to a purpose, a cause, and to feel good about it. Whether it is for your professional life or for your personal life…life is about feeling good about who you are, what you do and what you stand for. The world is built around self-esteem and the lack of could be devastating.

The self satisfaction of making a difference each day for oneself and for others around you makes me say, “Life is good!”

I’m on a roll right now and guess I will leave you with this quote;

“Every great dream begins with a dreamer. Always remember, you have within you the strength, the patience, and the passion to reach for the stars to change the world”

IFBB Bikini Pro Justine Munro: When the body talks… you better listen.

Canadian Blonde Bikini Bombshell, Justine Munro checks in again. She’s been battling a cold during her Arnold prep and has some advice for others.

When the body talks -  you better listen.

Houston, we got a problem… I can’t eat! When do I ever not want to eat?

As my Arnold prep was taking its course, I suddenly came to a stop! Staying in shape, eating smart, working out, working my routine has always proven itself to be the best way to stay healthy… as I haven’t been sick for the longest time, except for this past week!

I couldn’t do anything, nor could I speak. (now that’s a problem!) A combination of cold and flu has turned my life upside down. I never realized how much I enjoy my routine of going to the gym, eating regularly and sleeping well…until now. I feel like I’ve lost my best friend and then believe it or not, you start questioning yourself about all your priorities and life in general. I miss putting on my fanny pack on and going to the gym. I miss eating on schedule and the right foods, but when the body talks, you better listen.

Rest! Sleep! Drink lots of fluids until your body says, okay, it’s time to get back to work.

Well on my way back to recovery. Back at the gym….I won’t give up that easy!

Let me leave you with this,

“When your mind, body and spirit are balanced and healthy, you find happiness.” 🙂

Did she say fanny pack? Yup, you read it right. Justine is back on track and rock’n but reminds us all that sometimes you need to put the ego aside and listen to your body. Become a fan of Justine on her Facebook page and give her Hardbody hello.

Canadian Cutie Justine Munro’s Arnold Bikini Blog

Canadian cutie Justine Munro joins us in our continued series of Arnold Sports Festival Blogs. Justine made a name for herself right out of the gates when she placed second in her IFBB Bikini debut. You’ll be seeing a lot more of her in the magazines this year, mark my words. She shares a bit more about herself and what her goals are for the new year.

Hello! My name is Justine Munro and I am a Canadian IFBB Bikini Pro on my way for the first time to the Arnold Classic. I am so excited and can’t wait to experience such an event.

Over the holidays I enjoyed some down time with my family and good friends enjoying some great food and having some awesome moments. We welcomed the New Year quietly, but with enthusiasm. These special moments and spending it with the people you care most about make it all that much better. I wish everyone a healthy and happy New Year!

I started my fitness journey a couple of years ago and have met number of experienced and great people who have encouraged me to believe in myself and to keep focused on the next level of the fitness world.

In August 2010, I won the CBBF CANADIAN NATIONALS held in Toronto which was where I received my pro card. It was a dream come true and one that I will cherish for years to come.

The Arnold’s is right around the corner and I have a great deal of work to do to prepare and to be at my best. I am so excited that I will have the opportunity to participate in such an event. The best Christmas gift I received this year was seeing my name on the list amongst a number of other beautiful ladies. I feel honored that I am the only Canadian Model in my class. (Did I tell you that Canadian girls can kick butt too? :))

2011 is going to be a year where I push myself harder in every way, I have a lot of goals in mind.

Saying that, these are my top goals for 2011
1.  Train, Train and did I say, Train! (both in Weight lifting and Cardio)
2. Brand myself within the IFBB.
3. Network within the industry. (I really want to learn more.)
4. Maintain a healthy and active lifestyle (balancing my on & off season eating, etc)
5. Give back! Help as many people as I can along the way.
6. Complete my firefighting courses and becoming a firefighter.
7. Have fun!

Two-Time Champ Kai Greene To Compete In 2016 Arnold Classic

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Two-time Arnold Classic champion Kai Greene will compete in Columbus for the first time since 2010 when he headlines a field of 13 of the world’s best professional men’s bodybuilders at the 2016 Arnold Classic, the Arnold Sports Festival announced today.

The Arnold Sports Festival and the IFBB Pro League today announced the invited athletes who will compete in the Arnold Classic, Arnold Classic 212, Fitness International, Figure International and Bikini International. The Arnold Classic Men’s Physique and Women’s Physique International contests are open in 2016 and will feature more than 100 combined athletes. All events will be held March 4-5 at the 2016 Arnold Sports Festival.

Greene won the Arnold Classic in 2009 and 2010 and finished second in Arnold Classic Europe in 2013. He also finished second in the Olympia in 2012, 2013 and 2014 but did not compete in any IFBB Pro League contests in 2014. Branch Warren, who won the Arnold Classic in 2011 and 2012, is also among the field of 13. Grishina also finished first in the Arnold Classic Europe in 2014 and 2015 and has won seven straight IFBB Pro League contests. Arnold Amateur champion Giorgia Fiorini earned an automatic invitation to her first Fitness International.

In the Figure International, defending champion Camala Rodriguez-McClure and Candice Keene, who won in Columbus in 2013 and 2014, lead a field of 14. Janaina Ferreira da Silva, who won the overall at the Arnold Amateur in 2015, earned an automatic invitation.

Arnold 2015 Bikini International Results

Bikini International
Ashley Kaltwasser became the first back-to-back Bikini International Champion. “I’ve been building this body my whole life,” Ashley told Arnold when interviewed after her win. Many people, myself included, had Canada’s own Justine Munro winning the show. Justine brought her best physique and one that was balanced from head to toe. She has one of the best booties in the division and presents herself with class. Ashley has a great physique but doesn’t present it as well as some of the other women. The presentation should play a part in it but hey what can you say, she’s the champ for the second year in a row. Coming in third was a favorite to win it heading into the show, Janet Layug. Janet wasn’t quite as full and sharp as she was at the 2014 Olympia where she took second to Ashley. Rounding out the top 6 was India Paulino, Stephanie Mahoe and Narmin Assria. India ditched the yellow bikini and opted for the black suit again. Stephanie Mahoe established herself as a top contender and Narmin showed an improved physique to land her in the top 6.

2015 Arnold: Bikini International Preview, Poll & Predictions

2015 Bikini International

The 2015 Arnold Bikini International is just days away and he only returning competitor from last year’s top five is the champ, Ashley Kaltwasser. Ashley has been on a win streak since she last Spring but you have to keep your eye on the up-and-coming threat, Janet Layug. When the dust settles on Saturday night you’ll likely see one of them shaking Arnold’s hand and accepting the Bikini International trophy. Janet has the stage presence and stunning good looks to take the top spot and there’s never been a repeat champion in the history of the division, at least at this contest. Ashley has a more athletic physique and seems to be what the judges are looking for lately.

The field is stacked with first time Arnold competitors. Look for Stephanie Mahoe and Sarah LeBlanc to make an impact on the top 10. If I was judging, which I am not, I’d roll the dice on Justine Munro, Christina Strom Fjaere and Sara Back. The three of them have incredible bikini bodies and if they are at their best belong in the top spots. You can’t rule out former Bikini International Champ, India Paulino either. The judges will have their work cut out for them next Saturday in Columbus, Ohio.

Cast your vote for who YOU think will win the 2015 Arnold – Bikini International. Get a complete breakdown and preview of all the competitors on bodybuilding.com. If you’re unable to attend the Arnold Sports Festival you can watch the bodybuilding.com webcast free next weekend.

If everyone is at their best, I’d have the top six as…
1. Janet Layug
2. Ashley Kaltwasser

6. Sara Back

I’m predicting it goes more like…

5. Sarah LeBlanc
6. Narmin Assria

2014 IFBB St. Louis Pro Bikini Results

st louis pro
The last opportunity to qualify for the Bikini Olympia went through St. Louis, Missouri on August 23rd. The final IFBB Pro Bikini in the competition calendar year (Olympia to Olympia) proved to be one of the more interesting ones simply based on the Point Series. Win and you’re in the Olympia Finish in the top 5 and collect points. The top five highest points at the end of the season are granted an invite to the Olympia.

Brittany Taylor and Justine Munro were compared side by side a number of times and the winner was in the Olympia and second place stay home. This was Justine’s best look to date but wasn’t quite sharp enough to hold off rookie Brittany Taylor. Brittany took top honors and in doing so punched her ticket to the Olympia. She was the 2014 Overall NPC Jr. Nationals Bikini Winner in June and this is her first pro win. Munro came up short in the point series and fans of the Canadian will have to wait another year as she will not be competing in this year’s Olympia. Coming in third was California’s Candice Conroy. The third place finish launched her into fourth place in the point series and she is officially in the big show. Fourth place went to Bianca Berry who come on strong in the final three shows after some time away from competition. She came up just short in the point series but will be one to watch in the shows after the Olympia. Definitely one who you could see on the Olympia stage in 2015. The fifth and final spot went to Noemi Olah. The placing earned her one point which ties her for the fifth and final point series spot with Nicola Weiterova.

Despite placing sixth in the show, Jessica Arevalo will head to the Olympia on points. A questionable move as to why she competed was she was already in the Olympia on points and the finish here does little for her momentum heading into the Olympia.

2014 IFBB St. Louis Pro Bikini Results (score behind the name)
1. Brittany Taylor – 3
2. Justine Munro – 6
3. Candice Conroy – 9
4. Bianca Berry – 12
5. Noemi Olah – 15
6. Jessica Arevalo – 18
7. Caryn Paolini – 21
8. Kamilah Powell – 24
9. Solmay Hernandez – 27
10. Janet Harding – 20
11. Svetlana Eregina – 33
12. Shawn Hecktor-Lewis – 36
13. Yanya Rachan – 39

Next up for the IFBB Bikini Pros is the 50th Olympia on September 18-21, 2014. After that is the Korean Pro and the Prague Pro. The next stateside Pro Bikini show will be the Ft. Lauderdale Cup on October 18th.

2014 IFBB St. Louis Pro Bikini – Last Chance to Qualify

stl bikini

The 2014 IFBB St. Louis Pro Bikini is the last opportunity for the women in the pro bikini division to qualify for the Olympia. The Olympia is a week earlier this year and the St. Louis Pro moved up in the schedule as a result. The winner will automatically get in the Bikini Olympia and those finishing in the second through fifth places will earn points in the Olympia Point Series. The women with the five highest point totals get in the Olympia.

The magic number is 10 to get into the Olympia via points. A woman will need at least ten points to have a chance at qualifying. This show will be very interesting to watch as three women are currently tied with 10 points for the fifth and final spot. Candice Conroy is the only one of them currently on the list. If she places anywhere in the top five she’ll break the tie and bump Michelle Lewin and Nomei Olah out of the mix. Mathematically she’s the only one on the list with a chance to qualify via points. Everyone else will need a win to get in. Brittany Taylor is the one who could shake things up in this line-up and don’t be shocked if Candice and Brittany are being compared for the own here.

*Update – Jessica Arevalo, Justine Munro and Noemi Olah have been added to the lists which changes the game.*

2014 IFBB Patriots Pro Bikini Competitors & Preview – UPDATED

patriots pro

The first annual IFBB Patriots Pro Bikini show will take place this weekend in Las Vegas, Nevada. When the lineup was first announced there were only eight women on the list but that has since changed. Currently, 20 women are slated to compete. Despite the twelve additions only one competitor appears to be a threat to the big two. Anything can happen on game day but if history repeats itself it’ll come down to Stacey Alexander, Angela Marquez and Justine Munro for the top spots.

THE HARDBODY 411:
Angela Marquez has won three shows in a row and will look for her fourth this weekend. She’ll face her toughest test of the year when she meets up with hometown girl Stacey Alexander. Stacey was third at last year’s Olympia and won’t have to worry about hotels or travel since she calls Vegas home. Stacey and Angela will likely finish in the top spots unless they’ve camped out at an In-N-Out Burger. We saw Justine on stage earlier this year where she finished 10th at the Bikini International. Look for her to be compared to Stacey and Angela for the win.

There’s no clear cut favorites to round out the top five. Yarishna has a good look but her legs have yet to come down and tend to be a bit too muscular compared to her upper body. Marcela has a good look and if she can come in with a fuller look to her physique has a good chance at that third place spot. Mary Dent will blow people’s minds when they see her and find out she’s over 50. Can she finish in the top spots? Don’t bet against her. Jennifer Dietrick hasn’t competed much this year and has been all over the board with her placings in previous shows. Liana Hamilton has yet to dial it in this year but has the tools to nail a top spot. If she comes in tighter than her last two shows she’ll be in the hunt.

2014 Bikini International Preview, Poll and Predictions

The 2014 Bikini International showcases a competitive field and you’d have better luck picking the lotto numbers than correctly predicting the top ten in exact order. The line-up has defending champion India Paulino in it along with Bikini Olympians Nathalia Melo and Ashley Kaltwasser. Rookie Janet Layug has caught the attention of fans online and hopes to do the same with the judges in her pro debut. Seasoned vets like Amanda Latona, Yeshaira Robles and Justine Munro will be looking to get into the top spots as well. Don’t count out third place at the Olympia, Stacey Alexander who came on strong at the end of 2013.

2014 Arnold Competitors Lists & Early Show Preview

One of the few IFBB events that are by invite only has become one of the most prestigious events of the year. The 26th Annual Arnold Classic will be held Feb. 28 – March 1, 2014. New this year will be the Arnold Classic 212 division. Absent from the line-up will be the Ms. International. The fields in the Fitness, Figure and Bikini International contests are some of the strongest you’ll see all year.

arnold competitors
Leading the way in Fitness is defending champion, Tanji Johnson. She’ll look to fend off top contenders like Oksana Grishina and Bethany Cisternino. One of Canada’s brightest Fitness Stars, Myriam Capes will also be back looking to take top honors. The all-time winningest fitness pro, Adela Garcia will not be in the line-up for the second year in a row.

Nicole Wilkins is back after sitting out the Figure International. She’ll look to reclaim the title currently held by Candice Keene. Look for Keene and Wilkins to be your front-runners in the event. Heather Dees, Camala Rodriquez and Ann Titone will also be strong contenders for the top five. Keep an eye on newcomers Alicia Coates who won her first two pro shows and the NPC National Figure Champ, Elissa Martis. Fan favorites, Larissa Reis and Ava Cowan will look to get back into the top spots. Mallory Haldeman and Erin Stern both finished in the top six last year however opted out of the show this year.

The leading ladies from the Bikini Olympia will be on stage in Columbus and good luck trying to predict who will win this one. Ashley Kaltwasser was tenth at this show last year but finished the year the new Olympia champion. Yeshaira Robles and Stacey Alexander had their best finishes in Vegas by going second and third and will look to be in the mix again at this event. Juliana Daniell has one the the most athletic physiques and returns to the stage after sitting out last year. Look for her to mix things up in the top spots. Courtney King will make a run at the top five in her Arnold debut. The champ, India Paulino is back to defend her title but as you can see will have her work cut out for her to hold onto the crown. Nathalia Melo is on the path to redemption after finishing second here last year and going the year without a win. Look for her to be at her all-time best. Amanda Latona will try to shake things up in the top spots along with seasoned vet Jessica Mone (formerly Paxson). Janet Layug will be making her pro debut and talk about jumping into the deep end of the pro pool. Will see if she sinks or swims with this line-up. Of course you can’t count out Canada’s Justine Munro who has come into her own the last year and a half.

If you’re a gambler, don’t bet on Bikini. The only sure thing is that you’ll lose trying to predict the top spots in order on that one.

The Men’s line up is stacked this year with Shawn “Flexatron” Rhoden, Victor Martinez, Brandon Curry, Roelly Winklaar, Dennis Wolf and others. The 212 Arnold Classic will likely end up being a duel between Olympia champ Flex Lewis and runner-up David Henry. Jose Raymond will look to get back into the top spots after finishing the season on a low note.

Congratulations to all who were selected and best of luck in your prep. It’s never easy dieting through the holidays and in the winter months but the sacrifice will be worth it if you’re the one shaking Arnold’s hand after a victory.

2013 Bikini Olympia Poll, Preview & Predictions

The 2013 Bikini Olympia will take place for the fourth time in Las Vegas, Nevada. Three different champions have been crowned but will history repeat itself? Four of the top six from 2012 will not be in this year’s line-up which leave the door wide open for the hungry field of competitors.

2013-bikini-olympia
The 2011 champ and last year’s runner-up, Nicole Nagrani has opted out to focus on her education. It’s the first time she hasn’t been in the line-up since the inaugural Bikini Olympia in 2010. It’s worth noting because not only did she win the title in 2011 but she’s been in the top spots every year since the show’s inception. Dianna Dahlgren announced she was hanging up her heels earlier this year. Jaime Baird has decided not to compete and will sit out the big show for the first time as well. The first Bikini Olympia champ, Sonia Gonzales is expecting her first child.

Who will step up into the top six. There are some likely veterans who will contend for the top spots but there are also a few rookies who could shake things up. Ashley Kaltwasser and Courtney King have been on the fast track to the top this season. Don’t rule out Yeshaira Robles and Justine Munro to make their presence known next week. The field of 22 will all be gunning for that number one spot.
