3 WEEKS OUT – BIKINI INTERNATIONAL

What’s up Hardbodies?!

3 weeks “Holla”!  My prep is going great and I keep seeing lots of changes every week.  I look like a 12 year old because I’m getting tiny. I haven’t had a cheat meal. I will have one when I deserve one, reason why is becasue I was enjoying it during prep 8, 7 and 6 weeks out. OK, so I had one poptart when I was 5 weeks out but that was it. I’m hoping to reach my target weight by Valentine’s Day so that Marco can take me out for some sushi yum.

Marco and I have been playing around with different recipes. We try to make our food enjoyable rather then say “ugh” and “I have to eat this.”  I have to share this story with you guys. I told Marco the other day to please take out the fish from the fridge so that I can bake it when I get home. When I got home he had already prepared and cooked my fish. The next morning I leave for work with my meals. When its time for me to eat, I go down to the cafeteria and pull out the fish. When I tell you that fish tasted like it was from the sea oh man it did.

Marco came to pick me up from work that day, I told him “babe, Thanks for cooking the fish for me. What did you season it with?”

Marco: “Why?”

Me: “Because it tasted like fish.”

Marco: “It IS fish.”

Me:  “I mean fish like if I fished it out from the sea.”

Marco: “You know what I ain’t never cooking for you again.”

Me: “I mean I’m not saying nothing bad I’m just asking,” LOL. I think its best that I prepare my own food anyways haha.

See some of my prep videos on Youtube.

Soon we will be in Columbus! I can’t wait.

Until next time Keep Training Hard =D

Dina’s Diary – Staying Fit & Healthy During A Pregnancy

Dina shares the latest in her journal of staying healthy and fit during her first pregnancy. If you’re a Hardbody mom you’ll likely related to some of what Dina has to share. If you’re a mom-to-be like Dina is you’ll get an idea of what Dina is going through with her first pregnancy. She discuses how she’s feeling and what types of workouts she’s able to do. Dina also shares some of the beauty products she’s using and what her nutrition is like.

21 weeks pregnant

Dina’s Diary – Week 22

Yes, I have leaky boobs and am doing squats in the Smith Machine with 10lb plates! Now that we’ve gotten that out of the way, let me re-cap the week.

Ever since my anatomy scan, I have been feeling “movement”. As a primigravida (woman who is pregnant for the first time), I knew that it would take a while for me to feel anything. I have to say that it is the most incredible feeling, knowing that you have another life within you, that is moving about outside your control. I will admit though that I have gotten jabs at rather inopportune moments. I’m pretty sure you’ve all read about how pregnancy makes your hormones go crazy which can be a bonanza for all in the bedroom, but let me tell you that having my baby to be make his presence known at the very same time put a kibosh on everything. I’m sure I will get over it soon enough, but it’s taking some processing. Now as far as the leaky boobs…it happens. Usually this happens in the 3rd trimester but all bodies are different, and mine started at around 21 weeks. I gleefully wanted to share this new development with my husband, but he ran away shrieking. Now I know how to torment him! I also have a more pronounced Linea Nigra (the line that some pregnant women get that travels down the belly).

Body-wise I have been feeling pretty good. I feel stronger at the gym and a little less hesitant than I had been. I have gone back to squatting baby weights (yes, I use the Smith Machine now!). I find the leg press a bit uncomfortable, so I am no longer doing that. Here is what my arm day looked like:

WORKOUT

Machine preacher curls 3 x 12
Flat curls 3 x 12
Push-ups using upside down Bosu ball 3 x 12
Rope Pulldowns 3 x 12

And here is leg day part one..I usually train legs twice a week:

Leg extensions 3 x 12
Hamstring Curls on Cable Machine 3 x 12
Plie Squats 3 x 12
Smith Machine Squats 3 x 12
Deads with a wider stance to accommodate the baby bump 3 x 13
Side Step Ups 3 x 12

This week I added yoga and Pilates into my workout rotation. I find that yoga allows me to stretch and get in tune with my body. Pilates, on the other hand, kicked my butt. You have to love an instructor who tells you that pregnancy is not a disability and that she expects you to work! My tushie will thank her later.

For nutrition, as I progress into my pregnancy, coach Layne advised that we should be slowly increasing my calories weekly. This week I get a few more carbs and a smidgen more of fat. Don’t get me wrong, I am not being completely obsessive with my diet, and I am indeed having fun. My husband made me buttermilk pancakes on Monday, and I was in a food coma for the rest of the day. My philosophy is to enjoy what I eat, but that pregnancy does not mean eating for two. It is my job to ensure that what I eat is nutritious for both myself and my son to be and that I maintain good health and weight gain. My OB advises a range of 25 – 35lb for me, and so far I have gained 11 lb. I haven’t had any real cravings, and my meat aversions are still there though they are diminishing slowly.

I thought I would touch on my beauty regiment.I have had to change some of my go to products during pregnancy. Having darker skin, I am predisposed to get melasma (dark patches). My aesthetician advised that I could use some vitamin c and kojic acid to keep it from getting worse. Below are some of the things I am now using with the approval of my OB.

Turbo Booster C Powder
Clé de Peau foam cleanser
Clé de Peau protective lotion
Image Ageless Total Skin Lightening Serum
Tatcha Rice Enzyme Powder

As far as on my body, I am a firm believer that stretch marks are genetic and no matter how many lotions and potions you apply, you will not avoid getting them should you be predisposed to them. My go to body products are:

Ultra Moisture In-Shower Body Lotion
Olay Quench Body Lotion Shimmer

Those two are the only products that have stopped me from getting scaly skin on my legs, and trust me I have tried everything.

For an extra treat, I love using
REN Moroccan Rose Otto Ultra-Moisture Body Oil

That’s all for now!

NBC Olympics Presents Olympic Gold Map to Promote Youth Involvement In Sport Across U.S.

NBC OLYMPICS PRESENTS OLYMPIC GOLD MAP TO PROMOTE YOUTH INVOLVEMENT IN SPORT ACROSS U.S.
Grassroots Television and Online Initiative as Part of NBC Olympics’ Coverage of the Sochi Olympic Winter Games

SOCHI, Russia – Feb. 5, 2014 – In partnership with the United States Olympic Committee and the winter sport national governing bodies in the United States, NBC Olympics has created a ground-breaking initiative, the Olympic Gold Map, to promote grassroots youth involvement in Olympic and Paralympic sport. The initiative will be integrated into NBC Olympics’ multi-platform coverage of the Sochi Olympic Winter Games, which begin tomorrow on NBC at 8 p.m. ET.

Olympic Gold Map

During its broadcast and cable coverage from Sochi, NBC Olympics will integrate a series of short promotional features driving viewers to a special section of NBCOlympics.com, NBCOlympics.com/gold-map, which will host an overview video and provide links to the various U.S. winter sport national governing bodies.

“For years, we have been receiving letters after each Olympics from parents describing the moment when their children, watching our coverage, fell in love with one sport or another,” said Gary Zenkel, President, NBC Olympics. “We want to capitalize on that moment of maximum inspiration and help kids take the first steps towards turning their own Olympic dreams into reality.”

Users will be encouraged to select the sport or sports that have piqued their interest, and the NGB websites, in turn, will provide further information about how children can get involved in their sports, such as contact information on the nearest opportunities for coaching and training.

“We couldn’t be more thrilled to join in partnership with NBC and our national governing bodies on the Gold Map initiative to encourage American children to get involved in sport at a young age,” said Scott Blackmun, Chief Executive Officer, United States Olympic Committee. “When NBC first surfaced the Gold Map idea during its bid for the rights to the Sochi Games, we were impressed by their visionary thinking, and we are very excited to see the planning put into action.”

THE OLYMPICS BEGIN TOMORROW
With more Winter Olympic events than ever before, competition for the 2014 Olympic Winter Games from Sochi, Russia, will begin one day prior to the Opening Ceremony. NBC Pushes Technology for the Olympic Games

NEW YORK (AP) — NBC is using the Olympics to push interest in technology allowing cable or satellite TV subscribers to see live Winter Olympics competition on mobile phones or tablets.

The network said Monday it will give subscribers a 30-minute “free pass” to Olympics video before they are asked to verify that they are paying customers. On subsequent days, the access will be limited to five minutes before verification.

“It’s a big step forward for the industry,” said Rick Cordella, NBC Sports’ senior vice president for digital distribution. “I think it will engage a lot of people.”

The industry’s TV Everywhere initiative is an attempt to prevent cable and satellite customers to defect to streaming services like Netflix by letting them watch programming on mobile devices. The idea has been slow to take hold, however, because different system operators and networks offer different shows to stream. There has been little rush to offer live programming because it hasn’t been included in the Nielsen ratings, but that will soon change.

Just under 10 million mobile devices were authenticated to watch live programming during the London Summer Olympics, Cordella said, although NBC doesn’t have a count of how many actual customers that included.

The verification process involves entering a username and password provided by your cable or satellite companies. Most people don’t know them, so it requires a call to their providers.

With the London games, people couldn’t see anything on their devices without that information. NBC is hoping the temporary free pass will give people a greater incentive to sign in because they will have a taste of what is offered.

For certain cable system, the authentication process is done automatically if the device is used within the home, Cordella said.

Users will have to download either the NBCOlympics.com app or NBC’s LiveExtra app. NBC is live streaming more than 1,000 hours of Olympics events during the Sochi games, which begin Thursday, as well as providing analysis, interviews and highlights.

“We’ve tried to make it as easy as possible for the average person,” said Ron Lamprecht, executive vice president of digital distribution for NBC Universal.

NBC’s hope is that the TV Everywhere experience during the Olympics will prove so satisfying that viewers will try it for other events or programs. The network is not offering Olympics programming through more general TV Everywhere apps, like NBC parent Comcast Corp.’s XFinity service. That’s a potential barrier, since some customers may not want to clog their devices with several apps for individual events or networks.

NBC is also using Ryan Seacrest in an instructional video to tell customers how to use the apps.

Billie Jean King Will Not Attend Opening Ceremony of the Sochi Olympics

NEW YORK (AP) — Billie Jean King will not attend Friday’s opening ceremony of the Sochi Olympics in Russia because her mother is ill.

King, who was selected to help lead the U.S. delegation to the Games, has been outspoken in her opposition to Russia’s anti-gay law. She also planned to attend ice hockey and figure skating events and meet U.S. athletes during her three-day visit to the games.

The White House announced Wednesday that former U.S. hockey player Caitlin Cahow, originally scheduled for the closing ceremony, will take King’s place.

King told The Associated Press that because of her mother’s “failing health, I will not be able to join the U.S. Presidential delegation at this week’s opening ceremonies of the Sochi Olympics.”

Betty Moffitt, her 91-year-old mother, lives in Arizona and has been ill for some time. King will be joined by her brother Randy Moffitt, a former pitcher for the San Francisco Giants.

“It is important for me to be with my mother and my brother at this difficult time. I want to thank President Obama for including me in this historic mission and I look forward to supporting our athletes as they compete in Sochi.”

The openly gay former tennis star has said she would like sexual orientation added to the list of protections in the charter of the International Olympic Committee. King was chosen in December for the U.S. delegation, along with openly gay former Olympic figure skater Brian Boitano and Cahow.

In June, Russia passed a law banning gay “propaganda” to minors. In an interview with the AP last month, King said: “It should be a non-issue. It’s just like people of color in our country and other places, it has to be a non-issue.”

President Barack Obama has been publicly critical of the Russian anti-gay law and President Vladimir Putin’s “cold-war” mentality on other issues. For the first time since 2000, the U.S. delegation to the Olympics will not include a president, former president, vice president or first lady.

The 70-year-old King, a social justice trailblazer who won 39 Grand Slam titles in her career, was tapped to enter the fray involving the delicate balance of Olympic sports and politics.

Other members of the U.S. delegation for the opening ceremony include former Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano, U.S. Ambassador to Russia Michael McFaul and presidential adviser Rob Nabors.

The White House statement said “The President extends his thoughts and prayers to Ms. King and her family in this difficult time.”

Missouri’s Attorney General Challenging California Egg Law

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) — Missouri’s attorney general has asked a federal court to strike down a California law regulating the living conditions of chickens, setting up a cross-country battle that pits new animal protections against the economic interests of Midwestern farmers.

The lawsuit by Missouri Attorney General Chris Koster takes aim at a California law set to take effect in 2015 that prohibits eggs from being sold there if they come from hens raised in cages that don’t comply with California’s new size and space requirements.

Koster said Tuesday that the California law infringes on the interstate commerce protections of the U.S. Constitution by effectively imposing new requirements on out-of-state farmers.

“If California legislators are permitted to mandate the size of chicken coops on Missouri farms, they may just as easily demand that Missouri soybeans be harvested by hand or that Missouri corn be transported by solar-powered trucks,” Koster said.

Missouri’s lawsuit was filed Monday in U.S. District Court in Fresno, Calif.

California Attorney General Kamala Harris declined to comment on the suit Tuesday.

But the Humane Society of the United States, which campaigned for the ballot initiative, said in a statement that states have the right to pass laws that protect the health and safety of their residents. Jennifer Fearing, the group’s senior state director for California, said eggs produced from hens in “battery cages” have a higher risk of salmonella contamination.

“Attorney General Koster’s lawsuit targeting California’s laws, filed just to curry favor with big agribusiness, threatens state laws across the country dealing with agriculture and food safety,” she said.

California voters approved a ballot initiative in 2008 that required egg-laying hens, pigs and calves to be raised with enough space to allow the animals to lie down, stand up, turn around and fully extend their limbs. The measure gave farmers until 2015 to comply with the provisions.

After voters approved the initiative, concerns were raised that the measure would put California egg farmers at a competitive disadvantage with counterparts in other states.

In 2010, California legislators expanded the law to ban in that state the sale of eggs from any hens that were not raised in compliance with California’s animal care standards. The California law cites concerns about protecting people from salmonella and other illnesses.

But the Missouri lawsuit said the real intent was to protect California farmers from being put at a disadvantage with their counterparts in other states.

U.S. Rep. Jared Huffman, a California Democrat who wrote the legislation when he was in the state Legislature, also declined to comment Tuesday.

Missouri farmers produce about 1.7 billion eggs annually and sell about one-third of those — about 540 million eggs — in California, according to Koster’s lawsuit. He said that makes Missouri the second-largest egg exporter to California, behind only Iowa.

Many of Missouri’s hens are raised in tight cages that won’t meet California’s new standards. Koster said Missouri farmers would have to spend about $120 million to remodel their cages or forgo sales to one of their most important markets, which could force some Missouri egg producers out of business.

Farm Sanctuary, an animal rescue and protection group based in Watkins Glen, N.Y., was among the organizations that helped fund the campaign for the California ballot initiative.

“It’s a real embarrassment for the state of Missouri that Mr. Koster would defend a practice that is horribly abusive of animals with a legal theory that is tilting at windmills,” said Bruce Friedrich, a senior policy director at Farm Sanctuary.

Missouri Farm Bureau President Blake Hurst praised the lawsuit as an important legal challenge. He said the California law, if upheld, could set a precedent in which the biggest states can effectively set agricultural policies for all the states.

“A pretty good tradition in this country that’s worked pretty well is that we have free trade among the states, and we would not want to see that changed,” Hurst said.

Olympic Sponsor, Chobani Held Hostage by Russian Government

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — U.S. Sen. Charles Schumer of New York is calling on the Russian government to allow Chobani Greek yogurt to be delivered to Sochi (SOH’-chee) for U.S. Olympic athletes and NBC Studios employees.

Schumer said Tuesday that a shipment of Chobani yogurt is being held up at Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey because of “unattainable” Russian Customs certifications. The U.S. Department of Agriculture has requested that Russia approve a USDA safety certificate for the yogurt, but Schumer said Russia still won’t allow the shipment.

Chobani, based in upstate New York, is an official sponsor of the U.S. Olympic team. Schumer said the yogurt will be eaten only by U.S. citizens in Sochi.

A call to Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak’s press office wasn’t immediately returned.

Magic Johnson Part of Group Buying LA SPARKS

Magic Johnson is getting back into the Los Angeles basketball scene in a big way.

The former Lakers great is part of a group buying the Los Angeles Sparks of the WNBA.

“We’re totally thrilled,” WNBA President Laurel Richie told The Associated Press. “When Magic chooses to enter into a partnership with a WNBA team, that’s a great thing. He’s a legend within basketball. He’s very knowledgeable about the game. He’s a larger-than-life personality. He’s an extremely successful business man. He cares about the community the way that the WNBA does.”

Johnson and Mark Walter teamed with a group of investors to buy baseball’s Los Angeles Dodgers in 2012 for a record $2.15 billion. It will be the same group owning the Sparks, minus Peter Guber, who owns a stake in the NBA’s Golden State Warriors.

Richie said Walter, the Dodgers’ chairman, approached the WNBA about buying the Sparks a few weeks ago. She said Walter and Johnson discussed the idea on a cross-country flight and by the time they landed on the West Coast they had decided they wanted to own the Sparks.

“He is looking forward to coming to games,” Richie said. “He is a fan already and now I think he’s going to have a heightened interest in this team all together. There will be lots of opportunity to see him and interact with him.”

Previous Sparks owner Paula Madison informed the league in late December that she wouldn’t be able to run the team anymore. She told The Associated Press that her family had lost $12 million, including $1.4 million last season, operating the franchise since buying it from the Buss family in 2007.

Johnson was a part owner of the NBA’s Los Angeles Lakers for a decade before selling his share in 2011.

While the franchise hasn’t been successful financially, the Sparks have been one of the WNBA’s best teams on the court and have led the league in attendance the past two seasons. They won titles in 2001 and 2002 and made it to the playoffs in five of the past six seasons. They were knocked out in the opening round by Phoenix last season.

Los Angeles, one of only four original WNBA franchises left, also has one of the league’s marquee players in MVP Candace Parker.

“I do know they were very attracted to this team not just because they were in L.A. and their incredible history, but also their performance over the last few years,” Richie said. “The players, Candace being MVP, Carol (Ross) being Coach of the Year, their knowledge and experience — they recognize what an incredible franchise it is at this moment.”

The WNBA will announce the new ownership agreement at a news conference Wednesday outside Staples Center.

Inaugural Snowboard Cross U.S. Paralympic Team Announced

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – U.S. Paralympics, a division of the United States Olympic Committee, announced today that 10 athletes have been nominated to the 2014 U.S. Paralympic Team to compete in the inaugural snowboard cross competition at the 2014 Paralympic Winter Games in Sochi, Russia, March 7-16. The nominations are subject to the approval of the USOC.

sochi paralympics
In May 2012, the International Paralympic Committee announced that men’s and women’s snowboard cross for athletes with lower limb impairments would debut at the Sochi 2014 Paralympic Winter Games as a part of the alpine skiing program.

“This is a very exciting day to name our first-ever snowboarding team for the Paralympic Winter Games,” said Kevin Jardine, high performance director for U.S. Paralympics alpine skiing and snowboarding. “We have some of the best snowboarders in the world, and this group of 10 athletes is going to make history in Sochi. Some of these athletes have been training for this moment for years, while others found the sport more recently, but the common thread that runs throughout this team is just how dedicated and passionate they are. It is going to be an honor to work with this team in Sochi.”

The U.S. enters the Games with three of the top-ranked men in the world, with Evan Strong (Nevada City, Calif.) and Mike Shea (Castaic, Calif.) sharing the current No. 1 spot on the IPC world rankings, and Keith Gabel (Ogden, Utah) is tied for third with Carl Murphy of New Zealand. Shea won four of the five world cup competitions this season, while Strong won one and earned two silver medals.

On the women’s side, Amy Purdy (Las Vegas, Nev.) and Heidi Jo Duce (Ouray, Colo.) are tied for the No. 2 spot on the world rankings. Purdy and Duce, the national champion, have battled back-and-forth for podium positions throughout much of the season. Duce won two silver and two bronze medals in world cup competition this season, with Purdy winning two silvers and one bronze. American Nicole Roundy (Salt Lake City, Utah) is also at the top of the rankings, sitting in fifth.

Retired Navy Hospital Corpsman 2nd Class Tyler Burdick (Salt Lake City, Utah), who was wounded in Afghanistan in 2010, is the only military veteran on the team. Burdick is No. 4 on the U.S. list and ranked No. 12 in the world.

Other nominees to Team USA include: Cristina Albert (Denver, Colo.), Megan Harmon (Huntsville, Ala.) and Dan Monzo (Vernon, N.J.).

The men’s and women’s snowboard events will be held on March 14. Paralympic snowboarders compete in snowboard cross, an event where athletes race one-at-a-time down a course with features including turns, drops and berms. Each athlete completes three runs of the course with the combined time of their best two runs determining the final winner based on time.

The USOC and NBC Olympics have partnered to provide an unprecedented level of coverage for the 2014 Paralympic Winter Games. NBC and NBC Sports Network will combine to air 50 hours of television, starting on March 7 with the Opening Ceremony. It will be followed by daily coverage of all five Paralympic sports in the Sochi program, before the Games’ Closing Ceremony is broadcast on March 16. In addition to the unprecedented U.S. television coverage, the USOC and streaming sponsors BMW, BP, Citi, Liberty Mutual Insurance, Procter & Gamble and The Hartford will provide live online coverage at TeamUSA.org.

U.S. Paralympic Team nominees for alpine skiing, biathlon, cross-country skiing, sled hockey, snowboarding and wheelchair curling will be finalized by the USOC no later than Feb. 21, the deadline to submit Sochi 2014 Paralympic Winter Games delegation rosters to the International Paralympic Committee. There are only three weeks to go before the show, and I can’t wait to get on the Arnold stage! My performance is just about ready. Now I’m working on my stamina, to put both parts of my routine together, and be sure I have energy to jump to the pole!

Fitness champion Oksana Grishina - Hardbody Road to the Arnold

Thanks to all of you for your interest in my routine, and your many supportive comments and shared videos. I really hope you like this new performance but, of course, this is still Fitness, so my focus is on completing strong and clean Fitness elements in my routine. I am very thankful to X-Pole for making this performance possible. I am grateful, also, to SAN Nutrition and Six Pack Bags for their constant support over the year. SAN supplements and my Six Pack bag both help me keep my energy up, while staying on my diet, day in and day out.

Fitness is a tough sport. Even as we work hard to perfect our routines, we must stay on a strict diet that challenges our energy reserves, and train hard in the gym to maintain muscle mass, tone, and definition to present a great shape on stage. We fight through pain and small injuries all the time, but sometimes it’s more than a body can take. Injuries are always a risk, and I am sad to see great athletes like Myriam Capes unable to make it to the stage. I know she’s a fierce competitor, so I expect to see her again at the Olympia. For the next three weeks, my goal is to keep my body as safe as possible, while finishing my prep.

Working with the pole has been a completely new workout and set of movements for me. I started from scratch, never having used a pole before, and it’s been really cool to experience the learning process from the beginning. It’s such a great workout for the whole body—arms, abs, back, legs! I am always working with my body weight, and I can see gains in size and strength in my arms from just the last few months. It’s hard work, but great fun, so give it a try. Of course, be ready for some bumps and bruises at the beginning, lol. But with experience, you’ll find your way more gently :).

As some of you may know, I’ve had a documentary film team following me around for a few months. Fall Guy Productions will continue to follow my prep and the competition at the Arnold, and I’m really excited to share some behind-the-scenes views of Fitness! I’ve never had to go through my prep in front of a film crew before, so this will mean some extra work for me, but it’s a new experience and I want to share my Fitness prep with fans. It’s a great opportunity to see what Fitness competition and the life of a Fitness athlete is like. I hope this gives fans, people in other parts of our business, and the broader public, a better understanding of what a Fitness competition is.

Thanks, again, for all the support you’ve been giving me online, through Facebook and Twitter. I will continue to post my pole workout videos, leading up to the Arnold. I hope some of you will give pole fitness a try. To all my sister competitors: stay safe, stay strong, keep motivating others, and good luck on the Arnold stage!!

With love,

Oksana

Beyonce vs Bruno – Who Did It Better?

The Super Bowl is one of the most watch tv events in the world. It’s the final professional football game of the season and while most watching are interested in the game others are waiting for the commercials and/or halftime show. The halftime entertainment has been hit or miss over the years but it’s sure to get people talking one way or another. This year Bruno Mars opened the halftime event on the drums and then showed off some old school dance moves.

The Red Hot Chili Peppers then took the stage and performed “Give It Away”. Lead singer, Anthony Kiedis’ fashion may be in question but he gave men over fifty hope. Yes, he’s really 51 on and rocked the hardbody.

Morning Motivation: Nike ‘Rise and Shine’ – Find Your Greatness

If you’re looking for a little morning motivation look no further than this video. If this doesn’t get you pumped to kick some ass today we don’t know what will. Nike’s ‘Rise and Shine’ video is simply awesome.

rise and shine

Welcome to the grind. We’ve got work to do.

RISE AND SHINE
6am and your hand can’t make it to the alarm clock before the voices in your head start telling you that it’s too early, too dark and too cold to get out of a bed.
Aching muscles lie still in rebellion, pretending not to hear your brain commanding them to move.
A legion of voices are shouting their unanimous permission for you to hit the snooze button and go back to dreamland.
But you didn’t ask their opinion.
The voice you’ve chosen to listen to is one of defiance.
A voice that’s says there was a reason you set that alarm in the first place.
So sit up, put your feet on the floor, and don’t look back because we’ve got work to do.

Welcome to The Grind!

For what is each day but a series of conflicts between the right way and the easy way.
10,000 streams fan out like a river delta before you, each one promising the path of least resistance.
Thing is, you’re headed upstream.
And when you make that choice, when you decide to turn your back on what’s comfortable and what’s safe and what some would call “common sense”, well that’s day 1.
From there it only gets tougher.
So just make sure this is something you want.
Because the easy way out will always be there, ready to wash you away.

All you have to do is pick up your feet.

But you aren’t going to are you?
With each step comes the decision to take another.
You’re on your way now But this is no time to dwell on how far you’ve come.
You’re in a fight against an opponent you can’t see.
Oh but you can feel him on your heels can’t ya?
Feel him breathing down your neck
You know what that is?
That’s you…
Your fears, your doubts and insecurities all lined up like a firing squad ready to shoot you out of the sky.

But don’t lose heart.
While they aren’t easily defeated, they are far from invincible.

Remember this is The Grind.
The Battle Royale between you and your mind, your body and the devil on your shoulder who’s telling you that this is just a game, this is just a waste of time, your opponents are stronger than you.

Drown out the voice of uncertainty with the sound of your own heartbeat
Burn away your self doubt with the fire that’s beneath you.
Remember what you’re fighting for.
And never forget that momentum is a cruel mistress.
She can turn on a dime with the smallest mistake.
She is ever searching for that weak place in your armor.
That one tiny thing you forgot to prepare for.

So as long as the devil is hiding the details, the question remains, “is that all you got?”… “are you sure?”
And when the answer is “yes”; When you’ve done all you can to prepare yourself for battle then it’s time to go forth and boldly face your enemy, the enemy within.

Only now you must take that fight into the open, into hostile territory.
You’re a lion in a field of lions.
All hunting the same elusive prey with a desperate starvation that says VICTORY is the only thing that can keep you alive.
So believe that voice that says “you CAN run a little faster” and “you CAN throw a little harder” and that, for you, the laws of physics are merely a suggestion.

Luck is the last dying wish of those who want to believe that winning can happen by accident.
Sweat on the other hand is for those who know it’s a choice.
So decide now because destiny waits for no man.
And when your time comes and a thousand different voices are trying to tell you
you’re not ready for it,
listen instead to that lone voice of descent,
that one that says:
you are ready
you are prepared

It’s all up to you now.

So Rise and Shine.

Training Video – Erin Stern’s Glute Bridges

Erin Stern is known for having one of the most athletic physiques in the IFBB Pro League. She’s been on a variety of magazine covers and stood in the winner’s circle a number of times. In this video she demonstrates an exercise that may take some practice but once you get the hang of it you can work your way up in weight.

Erin Stern Training

Erin shared, “New PR tonight – 365lbs! Train hard, y’all!!” Recently on her Facebook page the champ posted some food for thought… “Something NEAT to think about: instead of cutting calories, try increasing the intensity of your workouts. Often, when we “diet,” our NEAT (non-exercise activity thermogenesis) decreases. This means that our bodies have a way of compensating for the decrease in calories – by becoming more sedentary. The solution: train harder and eat enough clean foods.”

2014 IFBB Legends Classic Pro Bikini Results

The inaugural IFBB Legends Classic Pro Bikini took place in Las Vegas, Nevada on February 1st. The newly added pro show kicked things off for the IFBB Pro League and sent the winner to the Olympia which will be held in Vegas this Fall. Nine competitors entered the event, none of which had won a pro show.

Christie Marquez could be considered the veteran of the IFBB Bikini division, at least in this line up. She’d competed in over 15 shows as a pro and we’ve seen her placings all over the map with her highest finish being 4th place. On Saturday night she change that by notching her first pro win and a ticket to the Olympia in the process. Nipping at her heels in second was Texan Kelsie Burgin. Kelsie achieved pro status at the 2012 NPC USA but had struggled to finish higher than 10th in her previous four shows. She brought a tighter, toned physique this time around and it paid off with a second place finish. Rounding out the top three was newcomer, Michelle Lewin. Michelle has built quite the fan base online with her popular instagram account and found success in a string of NPC shows in Florida. Michelle was the 2013 NPC Ft. Lauderdale Cup overall winner. She achieved pro status but successfully petitioning for her pro card, as other non-USA residence have done. Most notably, Nathalia Melo who also won the NPC Ft. Lauderdale cup and went on to become the Bikini Olympia champ. Michelle brings a bit more muscle than some of the other women in the show, most notably in her legs. She’s one to watch upcoming shows to make a run for the top spot and don’t be surprised if you see her grace a magazine cover or two this year.
