Interview & Poll: Yeshaira Robles’ Baby on Board

Yeshaira Robles Baby on Board

Yeshaira shows off her before and after with the same outfit. 🙂

Yeshaira Robles is one of the top IFBB Bikini competitors in the world. She consistently finishes in the top six and has become a fan favorite. Yeshaira is always smiling and friendly to everyone whether she’s in the gym, backstage at a show or at a booth signing autographs. She’s also an inspiration to mothers who struggle to find balance with work, family and food. Many people were wondering why Yeshaira’s name was absent from the 2015 Arnold invitees. Well, the secret is out. Yeshaira and her husband Marco (who is competing in the Arnold 212 Bodybuilding) are expecting their second child. We caught up with Yeshaira to find out a bit more on her big news!

HARDBODY INTERVIEW – YESHAIRA ROBLES BABY NEWS!
HBN: Congratulations! We’re you trying for a new addition to the family?
YR: We didn’t plan this one, it just happened. It’s funny because we spoke about it last year that we were planning on having another baby after the Olympia 2014, but then we decided to wait till after Olympia 2015 and LOOK! LOL! I guess it was the perfect time for both of us.

HBN: When did you find out the news?
YR: Right after the Olympia. I noticed that my monthly didn’t come down and I’m never late. haha. I fell off the couch and Marco noticed that my stomach was huge and took a pic. He said “didn’t you have a six pack a few days ago?” I didn’t think anything of it. lol.

HBN: Do you know if you’re having a boy or a girl?
YR: Not yet its too soon, but we will know for sure next month.

HBN: When’s the baby due?
YR: Right now the Dr. said July 5th.

HBN: What baby names are you leaning towards?
YR: I haven’t picked any yet. How about Hardbody helps us decide? A poll sounds like fun, lets do it. Lila (my daughter) picked out names if it’s a girl, she said Marshmallow Alvarez and for a boy, Rocky. LOL!

{democracy:275}

HBN: What was Lila’s reaction to being a big sis?
YR: I think it was all her. The beginning of the year she said she was praying to God to plant a seed in my belly. She said she prayed every night and she can’t believe it came true. She’s sooooo excited.

We love @ihop 😋 #yeshairarobles #roblesrivera

HBN: Anything noticeably different this time around with the pregnancy?
YR: OMG! I got so sick with this one. The first trimester I was sick 24/7 non stop. Now I’m feeling so much better… it’s about time.

HBN: What’s been the biggest challenge of the pregnancy so far?
YR: First, I didn’t have an appetite but now that i’m better I can’t stop eating hehe. I need to control the amount of junk that I’m having. I’m craving everything.

HBN: What advice do you have for other mothers?
YR: If you’re pregnant eat in moderation. Make sure you’re drinking lots of water, eating your veggies, fruits and all the protein you need to feed that baby. If the doctor gives you the ok do light workouts at the gym, but make sure your heart rate is below 140.

HBN: Are you still exercising / working out?
YR: Nooooo… It’s been 3 months! YIKES but since the Dr. gave me the ok I will be back in action next week. I will be training light and some cardio.

HBN: Anything you know you won’t be doing this time around… things you learned the hard way with first pregnancy?
YR: I won’t be eating like crazy especially junk. With Lila I gained 67lbs that was too much for me.

HBN: Your fans want to know… will you be at the Arnold Sports Festival in March?
YR: Absolutely, I will be cheering on my husband Marco Rivera he will be competing in the 212 division.

Yeshaira Robles Repeats – 2014 IFBB New York Pro Bikini Results

The New York Pro always showcases the top competitors in the IFBB Bikini division and this year was no different. The reigning Ms Bikini Olympia and Bikini International champ, Ashley Kaltwasser had been on a hot streak and seemed unbeatable, at least on paper heading into this show. Yeshaira Robles was the defending New York Pro champ and coming off a win at the Pittsburgh Pro earlier this month. When it came to the finals, Yeshaira and Ashley were the last two women standing.

2014 IFBB New York Pro Bikini Results

THE HARDBODY 411
The results played out just like last year, at least for the top two spots, and Yeshaira retained her New York Pro title. She has natural stage presence and comes across as sexy and sassy without it being over the top. She adds a little cutesy smile and you can’t help but smile with the energy she brings to the stage. Yeshaira is the epitome of class and one of the pros up and coming bikini competitors should look to on how to present themselves. She has to feel confident heading into the Olympia later this summer.

Ashley wasn’t quite as sharp as we’ve seen her in previous shows but she wasn’t too far off what we’ve seen in the past. She seems a bit nervous at times when she presents herself and her posing/walking in heels could use a bit of work. She has an athletic physique but lacks the energy some of the other women do on stage. At this point in her pro career, I’d like to see her with a bit more energy and be in the moment when on stage. Still a second place finish is nothing to be disappointed in. She was second at this show last year and like last year lost by a narrow margin to Yeshaira.

In third place was Stephanie Mahoe. Stephanie was definitely better than her Pittsburgh appearance earlier this month. She had trouble with her tanning at some shows but it wasn’t an issue here. Stephanie didn’t seem like she was having fun on stage and her presentation was good but lacked energy. I’d like to see her with a bit more sass and enjoy herself rather than just go through the motions.

Stacey Alexander was a bit off from what we’ve seen from her in previous shows. She was tighter at her Pittsburgh appearance where she finished second. Stacey has positioned herself as a top five competitor in every show she enters. The little details have been fixed like her hair and makeup. If she sticks with what works on those all she needs to do is bring a tighter booty and she’s good to go.

Lacey Deluca was much tighter than we’ve seen in previous shows and cursed (or blessed depending on your point of view) with a booty. The only thing that took me back was how drawn in her face was. She’ll need to watch that in future shows as the drawn in face flies with bodybuilders but not so much with bikini competitors. She continues to improve and as long as she keeps doing that she’ll be in the mix. A top five finish in this lineup is a solid placing for her.

A few of my personal favorites…
I like the look Belinda Kiriakou from Canada brings to the stage. She ditched the excessive hands through the hair pose she had in Dallas but still needs to work on her presentation. There’s a timing to it and she tends to hit a couple too many poses and stays on stage longer than others. She carries a bit more muscle than some of the other women but overall she has a great look.

Antanique Landry has a look that separates her from the rest of the competitors. She’s beautiful and has some of the best hair in the division. I love that she went with the natural look versus straightening it. If she brings her legs down in size just a bit you will see her move up. She’s definitely one to watch in future shows.

Amy Updike has a great physique and I like that she doesn’t cover up her tattoos. If she improves her posing from the back just a bit she’ll move up in the placings. I like her potential and the more stage time she gets the more she’ll improve.

Sabrina Nicole brought her best to the stage and it may have been a bit too much for the judges. She has a rock’n set of abs and while I’m a fan of the look it didn’t resonate with the judges this time around. She’s a taller competitor so I don’t think she needs the super thick heels she was sporting but hey what do I know?

Build Better Glutes & Hamstrings with Yeshaira Robles’ Workout

Hamstrings and Glutes with Yeshaira Robles
In the beginning I was always a fan of upper body workouts. Lower body was a challenge for me, but once I started seeing a huge difference I fell in love with training my lower half. If I could train hams and glutes every day I would! We all know that’s counterproductive so I obviously don’t but I love training them that much. I like to go up in weight every set. That’s how I get those muscles stronger and more developed.

better flutes and hamstring training workout
I start of with moderate weight and push 20 reps then I go up a couple of pounds heavier and push 15, 12, 10, 8

My first set is a warm up.
I like to do 5 sets x 20 (reps) and then on down… 15, 12, 10, 8. Try this for each the exercises noted below. I start with 20 and end with 8 (20-8)

HAMSTRINGS
Standing Leg Curls 5 (sets) x 20-8
Using this machine makes me push on a single leg instead of laying down and using both my legs. My left is the weakest, so when I’m laying down I tend to use my right more. Since I’m standing I have no choice but to push on my left alone.

Laying Leg Curls 5 (sets) x20-8
I like to keep my feet together instead of having them far apart.

Stiff Legs 5(sets) x20-8
Get 2 10lb weights and place them in front of you, feet apart. Step on it with your heels out and your toes right on the edge. Doing this exercise gives you the extra stretch you need when doing stiff legs

High Leg Press Machine 5(sets) x 20-8
Place your feet on the top of the leg press machine with your toes sticking out half way. Come all the way down and push up with your heels. This exercise targets your glutes and your hamstrings

GLUTES
Since I’m going heavy each set I do not superset. You can superset all these workouts if you have all the machines close by and stay at a moderate weight and do 15-20 reps.

Single leg Press
Place your feet on the middle of the platform and come down and push up with your heel.

Butt Blaster

Always try to push with your heel.

Standing single leg Kick Backs
Using the cable machine.

Good Mornings
With your feet far apart bend over with your back straight and when you come up squeeze your glutes. This is also a back exercise but I like to use it as part of my glutes workout as well.

When I’m getting close to a competition, I do superset all these workouts and stay at a moderate weight always at 20 reps.

better glute training

I usually end with an ab workout that is similar to this…

ABS
4 (sets) x50 Crunches
4 (sets) x30 Leg Raises

Give my workout a try and hopefully it will help you build better glutes and hamstrings. You can find me on Facebook, twitter and check out some my tips and training on my Youtube channel.

3 WEEKS OUT – BIKINI INTERNATIONAL

What’s up Hardbodies?!

3 weeks “Holla”!  My prep is going great and I keep seeing lots of changes every week.  I look like a 12 year old because I’m getting tiny. I haven’t had a cheat meal. I will have one when I deserve one, reason why is becasue I was enjoying it during prep 8, 7 and 6 weeks out. OK, so I had one poptart when I was 5 weeks out but that was it. I’m hoping to reach my target weight by Valentine’s Day so that Marco can take me out for some sushi yum.

Marco and I have been playing around with different recipes. We try to make our food enjoyable rather then say “ugh” and “I have to eat this.”  I have to share this story with you guys. I told Marco the other day to please take out the fish from the fridge so that I can bake it when I get home. When I got home he had already prepared and cooked my fish. The next morning I leave for work with my meals. When its time for me to eat, I go down to the cafeteria and pull out the fish. When I tell you that fish tasted like it was from the sea oh man it did.

Marco came to pick me up from work that day, I told him “babe, Thanks for cooking the fish for me. What did you season it with?”

Marco: “Why?”

Me: “Because it tasted like fish.”

Marco: “It IS fish.”

Me:  “I mean fish like if I fished it out from the sea.”

Marco: “You know what I ain’t never cooking for you again.”

Me: “I mean I’m not saying nothing bad I’m just asking,” LOL. I think its best that I prepare my own food anyways haha.

See some of my prep videos on Youtube.

Soon we will be in Columbus! I can’t wait.

Until next time Keep Training Hard =D

Road to The Arnold with Yeshaira Robles – 6 Weeks out

Top IFBB Bikini Pro Yeshaira Robles checks in with an update on her road to the Arnold. She’s currently six weeks out from the Bikini International and this time around she’s dieting with her significant other. The fit duo has a fun, light-hearted relationship where they keep each other in check. Check out what’s up with Yeshaira.

What’s Up Hardbodies?!!!

What have I been up to? Hmm… well, I’m six weeks out from the Bikini International yayy. I’m looking forward to a few things; Seeing everyone, wearing my bikini, having my hair and make up done and posing on stage. I don’t normally get all dolled up, so that’s why I look forward to competing. When I go to the gym I wear sweats and a tank top. I admire some of the girls I see wearing booty shorts and sports bras they look amazing. I told Marco (my fiancé also prepping for the Arnold) the other day that when I get really close to show time I’m going to wear those type of clothes to the gym. He looked at me and said ” Well if you’re doing a shoot yes, but not to work out.” LOL

Training has been going very well. At first I was sore all over, I had to roll out of bed. Now nothing hurts. Food has been more like fuel for my body. That’s how I think of it.

I can’t go food shopping with Marco. I like to add 100 calorie treats to the cart, but when we get to the cash register oooooo it’s a different story. He picks it up and says “Really Yeshaira? Is this what you’re going to eat”. I tell him, “It’s just for some in between snacks” he says “No put it back”. Now the lady at the cash register looks at me and looks at him. Here I am looking thin. I could just imagine what she’s thinking haha. (Damm he doesn’t let her eat nothing). So now I go food shopping by myself as well sometimes hehe.

Here’s another funny story with Marco. Last night I turned off the heat at home since it was warm. He gets out the shower and tells me “Did you turn off the heat?” I say ” Yes it’s hot in here”. He says “Hell no its cold!! Its because you’re fat”. LOL he’s the worst.

That’s all for now.

Thanks for reading and until next time Keep Training Hard!

Road to The Arnold with Yeshaira Robles

Yeshaira Robles is embarking on her return to the Arnold stage. In just a few short weeks, the New York momma will be competing in the Bikini International. She’s keeping us updated on her journey and what’s happening along the way. This year is extra special because she’s prepping with her fiancé, Marco Rivera. How is it prepping for a show together? Yeshaira Robles Road to The Arnold

Happy New Year Hardbodies! =D

Hope everyone enjoyed their Holidays, I sure did. I had one Christmas/Birthday wish that I was soooo hoping for… My biggest wish was for Marco Rivera (my fiancé) to get an invitation to compete at the 2014 Arnold Classic 212. When I found out the news I was jumping for joy. Especially knowing that we will be competing together at this amazing show. I got the privilege to compete there last year, and it was an incredible experience. We are 8 weeks out to the show and I literally just started my prep for it. Marco has been prepping since December.

How is it for us prepping together? Well it’s not that bad.I stay out of his way and he stays out of mine. It’s actually much more easier when we diet together. We both eat the same protein, carbs, vegetables etc. It’s more difficult when one is dieting while the other is not. There was an incident when I ordered pizza and the delivery guy came at the same time that Marco did from the gym. I was like “oh man he came early from the gym” he was pissed I thought my pizza was going to be tossed out the window LOL. My pizza days are behind me. It’s time to bring my best to the stage. I am very excited for this prep, and I’m looking forward to stepping on the Arnold stage again.

Let the prepping begin! Until next time keep training hard!

** Peace**

Yeshaira Robles’ Arnold Recap

Yeshaira Robles recaps her first trip to the Arnold Sports Festival. Yeshaira finished an impressive 4th place in the Bikini International. This hardbody momma shares some of the challenges she faced en route to the stage and what she learned along the way.  Check out photos from the Bikini International here.

yeshaira robles

Hello hardbodies!!

I am so excited to share with you my sentiments & proud accomplishment of competing in my first bikini international and taking home the 4th place spot! All my fellow competitors looked beautiful and brought their best package to the stage… I would like to congratulate all the figure, fitness and bikini girls.

My prep for this show, was NOT easy… as I competed in 7 shows in 2012, with only 2 months off to mentally and physically get ready for the Arnold. I believe everyone was sick with the flu, me included. That definitely dampened my diet and exercise regiment. By February 2013, I was able to regain my strength and motivation back to rock the stage. Becoming conditioned on time was my hardest challenge, besides FOOD!

The greatest lesson I learned this past year, competing as a pro is… Rest is as important as putting in the work to reach my goals.

I want to thank HardBodyNews.com for letting me share my journey to the Bikini International and thanks to all of YOU for reading!

Until next time, train hard and Rock ON!

Hardbody Momma Yeshaira Robles Road To The Arnold

Yeshaira Robles stops by after being knocked down by the flu. She’s back and ready to rock on with her Arnold prep. Yeshaira fills us in on what she’s been doing and what she was awarded when she made the trip to Daytona to visit her team.

Yeshaira Robles, 2013 Bikini International Contender

Hello Hardbody Nation!!!

Wow So I’m officially 2 weeks out to the Bikini International… I’m really excited and nervous. I’m feeling good though and can’t wait.

Did any of you get sick with the flu?? I did it was horrible 1 whole week of sickness. :/

I’m back to normal now. This past weekend was a great one. I went out to Daytona Beach to teach Super Camp for Team Bombshell. It was a great weekend, all the girls are AMAZING and very Inspiring to each other and me as well. Sometimes I get lazy and I’m so glad I made it to camp because it was definitely something I needed. The girls gave me an extra boost.

I was awarded the 2012 Team Bombshell of the Year by my team. It was a honor to receive this award. Let me share a little something with you guys… in the beginning of 2011 when I joined this amazing team I remember that there was a poll for us to vote for bombshell of the year and I told myself; “I would love my name to be up there one da.” Ladies, it’s never too late to pursue your dreams, remember it’s not coming to you YOU have to go get it.

I received few emails from some lovely ladies asking me how can we loose that lower belly fat after pregnancy I answered them individually but I wanted to share for those who might be curious.

After my pregnancy, I started eating small clean portions every 2-3 hours (grilled chicken, fish, sweet potatoes, egg whites, oatmeal, greens, fruits, brown rice) and incorporating 60 minutes cardio sessions. Eventually when the weight was dropping I still noticed that belly pouch. I started wrapping myself with a neoprene belt and putting albolene (you can purchase it at duane reade) around my stomach during my cardio sessions. I started to see a big difference. I also added 4×50 crunches and 4×50 leg raises. Now they have some great products in the market that you can use like Sweet Sweat, Beauty Bum, and Fat Fader. Some really good stuff.

If you eat bad foods and no cardio etc it will store right in the belly I know cause it happens to me. LOL!

Until next time Stay Fit and Rock on 🙂

Meal Preparation Tips from Fit Mom Yeshaira Robles

Yeshaira Robles shares her tips to preparing meals and making sure she stays on track with her busy schedule. Check out what her day is like with work, working out, being a mom and preparing for the Bikini International. Yeshaira also shares some fun photos of herself with Mr. Olympia, Jay Cutler. You can’t help but cheer for her every time you see her smile.

yeshair-arnold

Yeshaira Robles, 2013 Bikini International Contender

Wow what a week!! My body is starting to feel back to normal, I love all the sore muscles. I trained every day last week Sun-Thurs Holllaaa. I did my cardio and kept my food semi-clean. It usually takes me a week to get back in action, so by the 2nd week its on. I’m starting to have the crazy competition dreams: no tanner on, my hair a mess, missing my shoes etc Ha.

I like to prepare all my meals for the week on my day off, that way I don’t have to worry about getting a meal in when I have a busy schedule. My suggestions to you guys is to cook everything in one shot: chicken, fish, sweet potatoes, rice etc.

• Weigh them out and put them in small baggies
• Take your meals for each day and put them in a large freezer bag and freeze them
• The night before take out one bag and put in the refrigerator, that way it thaws out over-night

I always cook my breakfast in the morning :)  (can’t eat frozen eggs and oatmeal lol)

This is how I start my day when I’m not working:
* morning cardio on an empty stomach.
* breakfast and get my daughter ready for school.
* back home to sleep for 2 hours
* eat my 2nd meal
* gym time weights and 2nd cardio
* house duties and answer emails
* pick my daughter up from school. We always go for ice cream or a cupcake. (if I’m dieting I don’t have any, If I’m not dieting I do)
* homework, playtime, dinner and movie of choice then bed time for her
* my alone time, I like to watch TV

Every day it changes around because I also work full-time.

yeshaira2Yeshaira with Mr. Olympia, Jay Cutler while pregnant & after getting her abs back.

Last week I wrote about how I gained 67 pounds during my pregnancy. I was huge.  I was determined to go back to my normal weight it didn’t happen as fast as I thought it would, but I made sure that I was consistent each day. Some moms out there find it difficult to drop weight and it all comes from within. You have to want it. People called it baby weight, no it wasn’t baby weight because the baby came out and I was still heavy!

If there are any new moms out there reading this never give up! Trust me, anything is possible, and I’ve made so many of my dreams come true. I’m sure you can too..Always remember that it’s not going to happen overnight, in a week or in a month. But it will Happen!

Ladies feel free to email me if you have any questions 🙂 yeshaira@gmail.com.

Until Next Time,

Hardbody Road To The Arnold – Yeshaira Robles’ Journey

Yeshaira Robles is prepping for her first trip to the Bikini International and she shares her journey with us. Follow her Road to the Arnold and read how a mom with  four year old daughter and full-time job juggles it all. Yeshaira is like many of us and she loves food. Yeshaira Robles, 2013 Bikini International Contender:

Hi Everyone!

My name is Yeshaira Robles and I’m an IFBB Bikini Pro. I’m a mom to a 4 year old girl. Let me tell you a little bit about myself.

I was a model/actress for the entertainment industry. I was pretty much average but once I got pregnant in 2007 I went from 110 to 176. After birth in 2008 I thought I would drop at least 20lbs, wrong. Ha Ha I only dropped 1 pound. After the birth of my daughter, I still went on auditions and landed a lead role for a music video. When I tell you I dropped 40lbs in 3 months I did. I ate clean, small portions every 2 to 3 hours and doing tons of cardio. I trained at home since I had a little one with me all the time. I would do lots of plyometrics at home and circuit training with 5lbs and 10lbs kettle bells. Eventually I got tired of the auditioning and long hours at video and movie shoots so I decided to take a break and get into NPC bikini competitions.

This will be my 3rd year competing. I started in 2010 and turned pro in 2011. I had a great season in 2012 and I will start 2013 off with the Bikini International.  This is my first trip ever to the Arnold and I’m soooooo excited.  Getting invited to the Bikini International was one of my goals/dreams besides the Olympia and winning a show 🙂

Today, I am 7 weeks out and I have officially started my diet and training for this show. I took time off from the gym and diet since my last show, well not completely off just on and off. Ha… I told myself,  “Yeshaira you have to really come in great for this show, its the Arnold and you got Invited”. Honestly sometimes I do get lazy.

I prepped all my meals this morning, all in baggies and ready to go. Breakfast is my favorite meal of the day, I enjoy my egg whites, oatmeal and a good cup of coffee. Keeping a clean diet is always so difficult for me cause I love FOOD! When it was time for me to eat meal number two, I was like “oh man” Fish and Asparagus. HA!

Once I was done with work I went straight to the gym to start off my first workout of the year “Quads and Glutes” My fav… I had a really good workout I know I’m going to feel it in the morning. After the gym I went home to prep more meals for the next day. I cooked for my little girl and big man lol. I’m not going to lie but I made pepperoni flat bread pizza for my daughter and I had a bite. Food temptation is the worse LOL.

Tomorrow is a new day and I’m ready!

Thanks for reading and until next time,
Yeshaira Robles

2014 Bikini Olympia

The final Olympia qualifying pro show took place today and has set the field for the Bikini Olympia. The top five at the Olympia are automatically qualified for the following year’s competition. The winners of each pro show qualify with the victory. The competitors who place second through fifth earn points throughout the year and the top five highest point totals are qualified to compete in the Olympia. If there is a tie, there is currently no tie-breaker, all go to the big show. In the Bikini division six women will go to the Olympia via the Point Series due to a tie.

Keep in mind this is the list of women who have qualified, it isn’t a final list of who will compete. There will be a competitor or two who will not compete despite being qualified. Check back for the final list.

Stay tuned on that front as it will definitely get people talking when their absence is announced.

There’s just one qualifying show to go in the Figure division (Tahoe Pro). It’s safe to call Allison Frahn and Sasha Brown qualified for the Olympia. There are a number of scenarios that could change the remaining lineup after the Tahoe Pro but here’s the leading contenders with a chance to qualify via the points series. The magic number is 10 anything less than that and there’s not chance to qualify via the points system. Three women have ten points and four have mathematical chances to get in with a top finish in Tahoe.

Allison Frahn, 15
Sasha Brown, 12
Krista Dunn, 10
Andrea Calhoun, 10
Julie Mayer, 10

Wendy Fortino, 8

There are two IFBB Pro Bikini shows remaining on the schedule. The Dallas Pro and the St. Louis Pro will determine who is in the Bikini Olympia lineup. In order to make the Olympia via the point system a competitor needs at least 10 points. Anything less than ten and they are on the outside looking in. It’s a safe bet to call Jessica Arevalo and Dayna Maleton in the Olympia but not it’s not set in stone. Kelsie Clark, Nicola and Michelle Lewin are likely in but not a sure thing. A number of scenarios could play out given two remaining shows. There will be a clearer scenario after the Dallas Pro. This one could come down to the wire to see who gets in.

Leading the Olympia Point Series:
Jessica Arevalo, 17
Dayna Maleton, 14
Kelsie Clark, 12
Nicola Weiterova, 11

There’s just one qualifying show to go in the Men’s Physique division (Dallas Pro). It’s safe to call the top two gentleman qualified for the Olympia. There are a number of scenarios that could change the remaining lineup after this weekend.

2014 Olympia Qualification Series By The Numbers

olympia
The IFBB Pro League introduced the Olympia Qualification Series, a points-based system in 2012. The system was designed to help determine who would qualify for the Olympia in each of the IFBB Pro League divisions. The way it works is pretty simple. The winner of each contest is qualified for the Olympia and no points are rewarded. The competitors who finish in second through fifth place receive points for their placings. The points are accumulated throughout the year and after the final qualifying event, the five competitors with the most points are qualified to compete in the Olympia.

THE HARDBODY 411

Some divisions are a little more interesting to follow than others and in many cases will come down to the final show to determine who gets in or not. There are only a few shows remaining on the schedule before this year’s Olympia and there are a few divisions and competitors who are a lock for a qualification based on point totals and remaining shows. Let’s break each of the women’s division down by the numbers.

2014 FITNESS OLYMPIA
The following women are already qualified to compete. This doesn’t mean that each woman WILL compete, but rather they are QUALIFIED to compete.

QUALIFIED
Adela Garcia
Oksana Grishinaa
Tanji Johnson
Myriam Capes
Bethany Cisternino
Marta Aquiar
Fiona Harris

The Pro Fitness is pretty close to being determined. There’s just one pro show remaining on the schedule (Tampa Pro) for the women to qualify. The winner gets in which means we’ll likely see one more woman added by way of a victory. That is unless one of the above women already qualified competes and wins. I can’t see any of the women listed about entering the show simply because they’ll be focused on the Olympia. Mathematically four women are a lock for the Olympia based on their point totals.

Regiane Da Silva from Germany will take top honors in the point series with 18. No one can come close to knocking her out of a spot. She’s in. Next up is Danielle Ruban from Canada. She too is in after a second place finish at the Chicago Pro. While technically she could drop out of the second place spot she wouldn’t fall out of the top five. She’s a lock with 12 points. Currently sitting in third place with 9 points, Arizona’s Whitney Jones is in. She too could drop from the third place spot but not enough to be bumped out of the top five. Veteran Trish Warren is also mathematically in with 8 points. Only one person could drop her down in points but that would still give her a high enough total to be in the top five.

Amanda Hatfield is currently in the fifth, and final, spot but her five points aren’t a lock for a qualification. There’s a few scenarios that could play out where she gets bumped out of the top five or ties for fifth. Somkina Liudmila could snag a qualification if she places in the top three at the Tampa Pro, fourth would tie her with Amanda. Ryall Graber who was in last year’s Olympia is on the bubble with two points. She’ll need to win or get second to qualify. Third place would tie her with Hatfield, assuming Hatfield didn’t pick up any points in Tampa. The same scenario plays out for Kizzy Vaines as she sits with two points as well. Long shots but not impossible are Ashley Sebera, Vanda Hadarean and Tiffany Chandler, each with one point.

OLYMPIA POINT SERIES LEADERS:
Regiane Da Silva – 18
Danielle Ruban – 12
Whitney Jones – 9

There’s one remaining opportunity for the female bodybuilders to qualify. The last show on the schedule before the Olympia is the Tampa Pro held on August 8-9, 2014. The point totals are too close to call a Point Series winner but mathematically Margie Martin and Christine Envall will both be in with six points. Even if they don’t collect any more points in Tampa, the six points will be enough to keep them in the top five. After that it’s a dog fight to make it in. Alana Shipp and Lisa Giesbrecht both have five points and while it should be enough to keep them in the top five, it’s not a guarantee. Virgina Sanchez is right on the bubble in the fifth spot with three points. Tonia Moore, Juanita Blaino are currently on the outside looking in with two points and Emery Miller has one point. Tampa will be one to watch to see who ends up in the top spots.

There are three shows left for the IFBB Figure pros and there are too many scenarios that could play out. The Tournament of Champions, Tampa Pro and the Tahoe Pro are the three remaining qualifying shows. Allison Frahn has a comfortable lead but not a lock. She’ll likely be in the Olympia via points but look for her to compete in one of the remaining shows, likely the Tahoe Pro. Krista Dunn and Andrea Calhoun are in the top three with ten points each. They are in a good spot but again not a sure thing they will get in given the point totals.

There are five more qualifying events for the Pro Bikini division. That makes things far too complicated to call at this point. As we’ve seen the placings with bikini shows are anything but predictable. If the Olympia were next week we’d see Stephanie Mahoe, Jessica Arevalo, Dayna Maleton, Kelsie Clark & Nicola Weiterova in the show. If I was a gambler, I’d bet the top five changes from this. It will be tough for anyone to finish ahead of Stephanie Mahoe and Jessica Arevalo but mathematically possible.

There are three qualifying events remaining for the IFBB Pro Women’s Physique competitors. The San Jose Pro, Golden State Pro and the Tampa Pro will determine who finishes in the top spots. Currently sitting in the top five spots are Rachel Baker, Olga Beliakova, Roxie Beckles, Jackyln Sutton-Abrams and Sandra Lombardo. Several more women could move up into the top five after the next events. This division’s top spots will likely come down to the final show in Tampa.

2014 IFBB Pittsburgh Pro Preview & Competitor Lists

Nearly 100 IFBB pros will compete this weekend at the 2014 IFBB Pittsburgh Pro. The women will compete in pro bikini and figure divisions at this event. The men’s physique competitors will also take the stage. Along with the pro competition is the NPC portion of the event, which always showcases some of top amateur physiques. Many of the top male bodybuilders will also take the stage on Saturday night for the annual guest posing.

THE HARDBODY 411:

PRO FIGURE PREVIEW
The 2014 IFBB Pittsburgh Pro Bikini is going to be a very competitive competition and the top five could go a number of ways. Currently, 27 women are slated to compete but a few favorites should rise to the top. Look for the defending champ, Yeshaira Robles be the one to beat here. Yeshaira has the looks, the body and posing down. She’s my pick for the win as she can go from sassy and sexy to cute in a blink of an eye. She’ll be put to the test with always improving Stacey Alexander. Stacey is polished and poised on stage and continues to bring a better look each time she competes. She could be in the winner’s circle is Yeshaira isn’t at her best.

Amanda Latona will undoubtedly be in the top five but where. She’s won a number of competitions in her career but has placed behind Yeshaira and Stacey in previous outings. She’ll have to be at her best to leave Pittsburgh with the win. I see her in the 3-5 spot but hey you never know. Rising star, Janet Layug has the looks and could be the one to shake things up if she’s on her A-game. Janet continues to improve her physique with time and while she’ll have a tough time with this line up she should be in the mix for a top five spot. Sarah LeBlanc will look to make it three in a row after winning in St. Louis and Orlando. She also continues to improve with each show and this will be her toughest competition to date.

Narmin Assria will try to hang with the big dogs on the East. She typically competes on the West Coast and fairs well but will it carry over to the East? She’ll have her work cut out for her to be in the top five. Callie Bundy continues to improve and could be one in the mix. Lacey Deluca always finds her way into the top 10 but will she be able to be in the top 5? She continues to bring in a tighter physique and if her booty is tight she could be in the mix. Stephanie Mahoe is a bubble girl who is sometimes in the top spots and other times on the outside looking in. Little details like her posing and tan will make a difference here. I like the look Pollianna Moss brings to the stage. A native of Brazil and now living in Hawaii she always brings a tight and toned physique. She should be in the mix for the top callout or two. If Jessica Renee brings the look she has in the past two shows, she could also be a contender for the top spots.

Anyone could bring their best and be in the hunt but based on prior showings that’s how I see things shaking out at the 2014 Pittsburgh Pro Bikini

PRO FIGURE PREVIEW
The Pro Figure competition has nearly 30 competitors listed but you have to figure it’s Camala Rodriquez’s show to lose. Since she made the switch from Fitness to Figure she’s held her own in nearly every competition she’s entered. If Camala brings the physique she has in recent shows, she will leave your champ. Allison Frahn should be in the mix but will need to be on point with her conditioning to be compared next to Camala. I like Elissa Martis for a top callout in this competition. She has a nice look and if she’s on the money with her conditioning she could be in the mix for a top spot. Monica Labriola and Laurie Green are likely candidates for the top five callout but would need to be at their all-time best to leave with the top spot. Look for Andrea Calhoun to be in in the hunt, again if her conditioning is on point. Julie Mayer has found success in her last couple of shows an could be another name you see at the top of this group.

2014 Bikini International Preview, Poll and Predictions

The 2014 Bikini International showcases a competitive field and you’d have better luck picking the lotto numbers than correctly predicting the top ten in exact order. The line-up has defending champion India Paulino in it along with Bikini Olympians Nathalia Melo and Ashley Kaltwasser. Rookie Janet Layug has caught the attention of fans online and hopes to do the same with the judges in her pro debut. Seasoned vets like Amanda Latona, Yeshaira Robles and Justine Munro will be looking to get into the top spots as well. Don’t count out third place at the Olympia, Stacey Alexander who came on strong at the end of 2013.

2014 bikini international

If history repeats itself, we’ll see a new Bikini International champion. Nicole Nagrani won the inaugural event and Sonia Gonzales took top honors the second time around. India Paulino edged out Nathalia Melo for the win last year. Read the skinny on all the competitors at Bodybuilding.com. The preview breaks down each competitor and what we might expect from the women next week in Ohio. One woman to watch who isn’t getting any attention but should is Margret Gnarr. She is Iceland’s only IFBB Pro and not only that but she’s a blackbelt in Taekwondo. Keep your eye on her, she’s good.

Cast your vote for who you think will win the 2014 Bikini International. The event takes place in Columbus, Ohio with the prejudging on Saturday, March 1, 2014 at 2pm and the finals to follow later that night. For tickets visit arnoldsportsfestival.com.

2014 Arnold Competitors Lists & Early Show Preview

One of the few IFBB events that are by invite only has become one of the most prestigious events of the year. The 26th Annual Arnold Classic will be held Feb. 28 – March 1, 2014. New this year will be the Arnold Classic 212 division. Absent from the line-up will be the Ms. International. The fields in the Fitness, Figure and Bikini International contests are some of the strongest you’ll see all year.

arnold competitors
Leading the way in Fitness is defending champion, Tanji Johnson. She’ll look to fend off top contenders like Oksana Grishina and Bethany Cisternino. One of Canada’s brightest Fitness Stars, Myriam Capes will also be back looking to take top honors. The all-time winningest fitness pro, Adela Garcia will not be in the line-up for the second year in a row.

Nicole Wilkins is back after sitting out the Figure International. She’ll look to reclaim the title currently held by Candice Keene. Look for Keene and Wilkins to be your front-runners in the event. Heather Dees, Camala Rodriquez and Ann Titone will also be strong contenders for the top five. Keep an eye on newcomers Alicia Coates who won her first two pro shows and the NPC National Figure Champ, Elissa Martis. Fan favorites, Larissa Reis and Ava Cowan will look to get back into the top spots. Mallory Haldeman and Erin Stern both finished in the top six last year however opted out of the show this year.

The leading ladies from the Bikini Olympia will be on stage in Columbus and good luck trying to predict who will win this one. Ashley Kaltwasser was tenth at this show last year but finished the year the new Olympia champion. Yeshaira Robles and Stacey Alexander had their best finishes in Vegas by going second and third and will look to be in the mix again at this event. Juliana Daniell has one the the most athletic physiques and returns to the stage after sitting out last year. Look for her to mix things up in the top spots. Courtney King will make a run at the top five in her Arnold debut. The champ, India Paulino is back to defend her title but as you can see will have her work cut out for her to hold onto the crown. Nathalia Melo is on the path to redemption after finishing second here last year and going the year without a win. Look for her to be at her all-time best. Amanda Latona will try to shake things up in the top spots along with seasoned vet Jessica Mone (formerly Paxson). Janet Layug will be making her pro debut and talk about jumping into the deep end of the pro pool. Will see if she sinks or swims with this line-up. Of course you can’t count out Canada’s Justine Munro who has come into her own the last year and a half.

If you’re a gambler, don’t bet on Bikini. The only sure thing is that you’ll lose trying to predict the top spots in order on that one.

The Men’s line up is stacked this year with Shawn “Flexatron” Rhoden, Victor Martinez, Brandon Curry, Roelly Winklaar, Dennis Wolf and others. The 212 Arnold Classic will likely end up being a duel between Olympia champ Flex Lewis and runner-up David Henry. Jose Raymond will look to get back into the top spots after finishing the season on a low note.

Congratulations to all who were selected and best of luck in your prep. It’s never easy dieting through the holidays and in the winter months but the sacrifice will be worth it if you’re the one shaking Arnold’s hand after a victory.

2013 Bikini Olympia Poll, Preview & Predictions

The 2013 Bikini Olympia will take place for the fourth time in Las Vegas, Nevada. Three different champions have been crowned but will history repeat itself? Four of the top six from 2012 will not be in this year’s line-up which leave the door wide open for the hungry field of competitors.

2013-bikini-olympia
The 2011 champ and last year’s runner-up, Nicole Nagrani has opted out to focus on her education. It’s the first time she hasn’t been in the line-up since the inaugural Bikini Olympia in 2010. It’s worth noting because not only did she win the title in 2011 but she’s been in the top spots every year since the show’s inception. Dianna Dahlgren announced she was hanging up her heels earlier this year. Jaime Baird has decided not to compete and will sit out the big show for the first time as well. The first Bikini Olympia champ, Sonia Gonzales is expecting her first child.

Who will step up into the top six. There are some likely veterans who will contend for the top spots but there are also a few rookies who could shake things up. Ashley Kaltwasser and Courtney King have been on the fast track to the top this season. Don’t rule out Yeshaira Robles and Justine Munro to make their presence known next week. The field of 22 will all be gunning for that number one spot.

Read the complete preview on all the competitors and a few fun predictions here.

2013 New York Pro Bikini Results & Review

The 2013 New York Pro Bikini had some of the division’s best physiques in it. As expected it came down to a few bikini bodies that would challenge for the title. In the end Yeshaira Robles had the most complete look and presentation. She’s positioned herself as one of the top competitors in the division as she heads into the Olympia. New comers Ashley Kaltwasser and Lindsey Waters are also on the fast track to the top as they finished in second and third respectively.

View 2013 NY PRO Bikini Photos.

Yeshaira has the look to be sexy and cute with ease. She presents with class and has a smile that will light up the darkest room. You can’t help but be drawn to her when she’s on stage. If there’s any one that new competitors are looking to emulate and look up to in the division, Yeshaira is the one. Ashley Kaltwasser has one of the best physiques in the division and without question will be a top contender in every show she enters. She got her tanning right at this show and her body was on point. I’d love to see her change up her hair and makeup and ditch the super long eye lashes. If she tweaks those minor things I think it could be the difference at a big show like the Olympia. Lindsey Waters turned pro just one week prior to the New York Pro by winning the overall at the NPC JR USA. She has a rockin bikini body and also got her tanning on point this time. It’s the same scenario with Lindsey as Ashley… I’m not a fan of the eyeshadow and huge eyelashes. They’re distracting and when it comes down to little details it can make or break a decision. If she changes those minor things it would make a huge difference.

newyork-bikini
Ashley, Yeshaira and Lindsey – Top Three New York Pro Bikini

Yarelis Gonzalez has all the potential in the world to do well in the division however we have yet to see her reach it in the pro ranks. She came in a bit better than Pittsburgh however her lower body was still not where it needs to be in order to be in the winner’s circle. It looked like she may have over done the cardio and crash dieted a bit by the way her skin looked. When you compare the tightness to that of Ashley’s skin, specifically above the knees, they are worlds apart. It may not be obvious to the casual fan but to the judges and those of us who see thousands of physiques a year, it is. Rounding out the top five was Ashley LeBlanc. Ashley may have been a bit too conditioned in her upper body as the vascularity was noticeable. I’m not crazy about the big curls in front of her face but she has improved her presentation and beginning to get more relaxed on stage.

Dayna Maleton has an incredible physique but it might be too much for the bikini division. Someone asked how she would do in Figure and I’m not certain but it would be interesting to see how she looked posing as a figure competitor with a different suit and same body. She improved her presentation and her only downfall is the amount of muscle and conditioning she brings to the stage compared to the other women.

Nikola Weiterova brought one of her best looks to date and could have been in the top spots. She’s brought up her backside and presents much better than her previous shows. Andrea Hertlein had the best booty in the entire show and if shows were based on butts alone, she would have been your winner.

View 2013 NY PRO Bikini Photos.

Things I’d love to see women NOT do on stage…
• The shoulder shrug/shimmy. It’s when a woman brings her shoulder to her chin and back down, sometimes more than once. It’s awkward and uncomfortable to watch because it’s not natural to most competitors when they do it. Ditch it, it’s not doing anything but distracting your presentation.

• The wind-up hip pop. India Paulino does it and it can be over the top some times but works for her because she’s sassy to begin with. When others do it, it looks out of place and doesn’t work. Don’t do it, it’s not helping your placing.

• The hand up to the chin/shoulder when presenting. It doesn’t do anything but distract during your presentation.

• The legs crossed and bending over in a very slow and way too far forward manner. The pose works for some women but not for all. If it doesn’t work for your backside don’t do it. It’s not a mandatory pose and can be uncomfortable to watch when done slow and in an unnatural manner. When some competitors do it, it almost looks like they have to go pee and that’s not the look you want to present, especially as a pro.
